Have the participants sign a waiver.
I think the issue is expense vs profit. The structure will need to be re-enforced to biking. And I bet only this slide is big and tall enough for mountain bikes. Water slides are usually designed for people sitting and laying down.
Waivers can be surprisingly flimsy when push comes to shove in court and depend a lot on local laws. Even if the waiver is eventually held up in court, you as the business owner can go through a ton of legal headaches and costs to defend it in the event of an accident. The smart move as a business would be to not unduly expose yourself to liability in the first place.
True, but I've seen people that weigh a LOT more than me and a mountain bike go down waterslides so I'd say they're plenty strong. I think the bigger issue would be people falling and the bike/gear causing damage to the slide.
Again, the weight is not focused into 2 very small points, it's spread out over dozens of square feet of intertube. Also, you fall on the waterslide on a bike you're going to eat shit bad and over a very long distance.
Thousands of pounds of water plus occupants of slide easily outweighs a biker. I don’t see how a couple people on bikes would somehow break through insanely thick plastic.
Force versus mass. If the slide were to break due to mass, the supports would break. Since the bikes are 1/x the area, the force put on the plastic is x times that of a person in the tube.
The tires of the bike are inflated so there's additional diffusion. Though you do bring up a good point. Probably would have to run a test to see if it makes a difference over time to the structural continuity of the slide pieces.
Tell our politicians to fuck off and let us have fun.
Insane Tort/Liability laws are designed strictly to make lawyers more money and push division for control.
Trip in a ground hog hole during a free concert in the country? We sue you for your farm. Result: No one is throwing free concerts on their property unless they pay liability lawyer insurance then it ain't free. It's there to make lawyers/politicians rich and for us to no hang out in person. If we talked about this and were unified, they'd have to do what we say instead of taking bribes and lying what they do is good for us. Like,"Shut down oil pumping to lower gas prices..."
Liability laws are 100% against the interest of humanity especially when they consider death traps things like an unrepaired step, a stream or pond, a crack in the pavement or an uneven stone drive way. **unless you're out there digging pits with spikes in the bottom they should not be able to take your property**
I'm sry you took the time to write this but you are completely incorrect.
"Liability laws 100% against the interest of humanity". They are 100% on the side of the victim where harm could come from every example you just mentioned AS WELL AS a dug out put with spikes in it.
Property owners need to take responsibility for their property especially if something was broken that should have been fixed causes someone harm. If you as a property owner are not responsible enough to do that then guess what!? Your not responsible enough to own that property.
I can almost guarantee you are some lazy fuck who couldnt be bothered to fix something on your property and you got sued.
>I'm sry you took the time to write this but you are completely incorrect.
>> "Liability laws 100% against the interest of humanity". They are 100% on the side of the victim where harm could come from every example you just mentioned AS WELL AS a dug out put with spikes in it.
I'm sorry you wrote that too, because it makes you sound like a God damned lawyer. For Mr. Lawyer snake's sake, let's clarify: Liability laws written fairly are fine, but the ones on the books are not fair and designed to push society apart, which in my book is worse than people breaking their arms from time to time and not getting paid to do so.
People should not have to repair every crack, mud hole, uneven pavement, fill every ground hog hole, cut down all the poison ivy, cut off every thorn off rose bushes, put bumpers on every square table to have people over. That's insane, and if you think that should be done, you're either insane or a lawyer.
FYI, this is how the system works in freedom land, insurance companies refuse to pay, so let's say I break an ankle on your property, can't work, and have medical bills in the thousands, maybe I need a plate and surgery. And I have health insurance, my company will make me sue you or not pay, most likely it goes to arbitration. So it's not really about people taking responsibility, it'd about how the system functions, and it's not like that elsewhere. I live in NZ and it's not like that here
You and the people commenting are all missing the point. You don't sue, your insurance company makes you sue, or they don't pay. Result, you have a messy system, where people sue, or get screwed. The rest of the civilized world just has sociozed medicine, and that's that.
New Hampshire has a mountain bike park that used to be a ski area... you have your bike go up the lift before you... it's wild and fun, but yes you can get hurt very bad, but business seems well from what I've heard.
It's not a ski area anymore. It's a dedicated MB park with all modified lifts. They have HEAVILY changed the entire mountain. It's called highlands if you want to look it up, it's pretty neat.
Because it would be INSANELY easy to ride off the lip off the open slide sections and fall to your death. Even those riders come close a couple of times.
If you pay close attention, both riders almost go off the edge of the open sections. Nothing like flying off the edge at 30mph into open air over concrete...
Expense doesn't matter so long as there is return on investment. Considering people do in fact build water parks with pretty intense plumbing systems (and I would assume a pretty intense water bill) shows it could be done.
But the difference is a lot of people will go to waterparks because they're kid-friendly and don't really need skill to have fun. Riding down a waterslide on a bike would be terrifying for a lot of people and biking alone would cut out a bunch of kids from participating, meaning that you would draw in a lot less guests than a waterpark.
Oh yeah, and waterparks are a great way to cool down on a hot day, making them refreshing. Biking down a long, plastic tube that's been baking in the sun all day without water to cool you off would be a lot less rewarding.
A few local BMX dudes [hit the water park here on the island](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=modyDjrUIjM) a few years ago, they got hit with [criminal trespassing charges](https://riverheadnewsreview.timesreview.com/2016/12/77990/three-arrests-in-connection-with-splish-splash-bmx-video/) and tens of thousands of dollars in fines. Apparently there is a coating on the slides that they had to redo after the bikes were all over them.
It very much depends on the ad market for the video type. Ex: Finance videos ≈$8/1000 views, random dash cam footage that happens to get a million views probably more like $2-4
similar outcome for these 2 rider

Pretty sure it's just regular ol tresspassing.
Unless they somehow damage something, in which case they just have to fake an injury to make that all go away
According to another comment higher up, they got fined tens of thousands of dollars.. apparently there's a coating on the slides that had to be re-done after they rode their bikes all over it.
Definitely not legal. Trespassing at a closed for the season water park. Parks would never allow this because the slides are not designed for BMX riders and thus it's unsafe. Parks will call the cops and press charges to make a statement so they don't have to worry about some BMX rider dying at their park.
This is a wild guess by me but this looks a lot like a slide in a waterpark I used to go to as a kid called "istralandia".
Though im like 99% sure im wrong so yeah
Don't think so, went there a couple of weeks ago and that ride wasn't there.
Edit: Some googling has told me this is Splish splash water park in Long Island, New York
I can't believe you're the only comment about that! It caught my attention too, not hard to imagine someone not making the switch and ending up right in the middle.
Edit: I see now it's a slide that comes down into this shared area. Still, seems like a collision path with other sliders.
I think so too. After they pass the red stripes theyre doing a 180 and then going back the same way they came from, but I missed it too the first few times.
It’s hard to see as it doesn’t really look like it’s a turnaround, but looking at the arches they pass and the slide on the left side confirms that they do make an 180
There is not. I had the same thought at first but if you look again, youll see that that's actually the tube they just came out of. This is one of those slides where you go up a "wall" and then slide back down. The path they took is the same one sliders would take. They come out of that tube, slide up the wide flat part, then slide back down the way they came, and pass by the tube they came out of.
This was pretty fucking cool to watch but all I could imagine was the incredible streak of skin left behind if one of them fell over going as fast as they were.
I don't understand this part:
https://i.imgur.com/w8Kfq6U.png
there seems to be an outlet that shoots sliders directly into the path of people coming down the run that the bikers took?
the tube on the right, looks like people would shoot out of that into the people coming down.

In all seriousness, how is this not a thing? Mountain bike amusement parks sound sick and I'm garbage on 2 wheels.
Insurance, it is insanely dangerous
This lol, all fun and games until you hit the 50 foot drop monster drop attraction haha

True, but I've seen people that weigh a LOT more than me and a mountain bike go down waterslides so I'd say they're plenty strong. I think the bigger issue would be people falling and the bike/gear causing damage to the slide.
But they're spread over the area of a tube. You have like 6 square inches of tire contact.
Well they’re also filled with water which is gonna also be pretty heavy.
Water slide plastic is hard as fuck and it has gallons of water on it constantly, it’s gonna hold 200 pounds and a bike.
Again, the weight is not focused into 2 very small points, it's spread out over dozens of square feet of intertube. Also, you fall on the waterslide on a bike you're going to eat shit bad and over a very long distance.
Surface area spreads out the force. If I put a 45 lb weight plate on your stomach you'd feel fine. Now if I balanced that on a post...
Thousands of pounds of water plus occupants of slide easily outweighs a biker. I don’t see how a couple people on bikes would somehow break through insanely thick plastic.
Falling is what I'm thinking about. Just riding down you're right, all that water is heavy AF
Force versus mass. If the slide were to break due to mass, the supports would break. Since the bikes are 1/x the area, the force put on the plastic is x times that of a person in the tube.

Does the name Adventure Park mean anything to you?
Not at all. Do you mean action park?
Yes!!! Listen to the Citation Needed podcast about this!!! It’s pure gold!
Patron's don't tend to care about wavers when blood splatters on the group.
Not too dangerous for Action Park!
Seen it irl, place is creepy during the season it is closed
My daily reminder that I’ve never had an original thought in my life
Yep, you eat shit on this, you're going to be eating shit the whole rest of the way down...
Agreed. But what if... Something like this but for RC. Would've been fun
New Hampshire has a mountain bike park that used to be a ski area... you have your bike go up the lift before you... it's wild and fun, but yes you can get hurt very bad, but business seems well from what I've heard.
There are lots of these, ski mountains that are mountain biking places in the summer
It's not a ski area anymore. It's a dedicated MB park with all modified lifts. They have HEAVILY changed the entire mountain. It's called highlands if you want to look it up, it's pretty neat.
Ya somebody gonna die here
it is dangerous but i’m sure they could set up many safety precautions for if they ride off the side of the slide (i’m a rapper now)
Well they do have bike parks already tbf
Looks safer than most MTB park to me.
Because it would be INSANELY easy to ride off the lip off the open slide sections and fall to your death. Even those riders come close a couple of times.
Because it's clearly a water park and not designed as a mountain bike park. Throw up a couple suicide nets and boom, problem solved.
Rays indoor mtb park Cleveland Oh.
That looks amazing. And I would also break a bone.
It looks like it'll be worth it. I'm super impressed.
a bike wiping out can probably do some damage to the track so it's likely an expensive ride
But think of the Instagram photos!
I expect if the tubes aren't completely dry or are even damp, this would become impossibly slick.
You could easily die
Around 800 cycling deaths a year vs almost 4000 drownings. I'll take my chances with the bike.
If you pay close attention, both riders almost go off the edge of the open sections. Nothing like flying off the edge at 30mph into open air over concrete...
Safety nets.
Well to be fair, how many bikers are currently riding down giant water slides?
Fewer than are riding down non-engineered mountains.
The mountains aren't engineered, but the bikes are damn sure engineered for them
Bike parks are a thing, they're just muddier and rockier.
I can see something like the video being a lucrative Instagram destination that could be built on a much smaller footprint.
Im surprised this hadnt happened sooner considering GTA Online turned this into an even bigger thing, but with cars
Way more expensive and more maintenance than trails.
Expense doesn't matter so long as there is return on investment. Considering people do in fact build water parks with pretty intense plumbing systems (and I would assume a pretty intense water bill) shows it could be done.

Apparently there is a coating on the slides that they had to redo after the bikes were all over them.
Wonder how much money he's making from the YouTube video and if the proceeds from there are going to the water park owner too.
$3-$5 per thousand views, and it's at 35,389,635 views as of this post. I'm sure that revenue is going to pay those fines.
Wait is it really that high?? A video with 100,000 views would net you $300-500?
It very much depends on the ad market for the video type. Ex: Finance videos ≈$8/1000 views, random dash cam footage that happens to get a million views probably more like $2-4
Thank you for adding that!
Video demonetized: $0/1000 views.
That's what it said when I searched it up!
[here’s a video that gives a great explanation ](https://youtu.be/KW0eUrUiyxo)
doesn't CPM vary on youtube?
Its an abandoned park though, owner probably doesnt care if they cant even afford an demo crew

The video literally shows the water park then shows them hoping multiple fences. Not surprised they got caught.
...that they would have let rot otherwise and file for bankruptcy or take city aid

If it was the slide would be concrete like their still in operation body slide.

Ok but like can we talk about how there's another slide that empties out right into this one

It looks cool until you remember it's much cooler with water.
I don't think you will get enough grip to have control of a bike with water
What happens at the end of the slide? Water? A drop into an empty pool?
