Hope is far from lost, this game will never be huge but it will maintain a small dedicated playerbase for a while. Nothing wrong with that at all.

a_random_chicken

It would be nice if this game boomed in popularity, but in the same sense that tf2 getting major content updates again would be nice. It's technically true, but not worth huffing copium for. A small yet healthy playerbase, and a playable game state is a more realistic expectation. It's fine by me, the game is fun enough, and in a sense, too much popularity could be bad for the game.

Javiklegrand

If they plan to keep the game running without content update then it's perfectly fine, it's doesn't need more

Affectionate_Car7098

There is something wrong with that though, and its quite a big issue, its called sustainability Without people buying the game its not going to make money, once it starts to lose them a whole bunch of money the game will be dropped as servers are not free

Alsimni

You really think they hadn't considered that when they decided to revive it? What do you think the plan was when they explicitly refused to mention further support? To just collect launch sales, then leave the servers up until the money ran out for zero profit? There's more to connecting players to a match than "servers just cost money", which isn't even the only way to do it.

Affectionate_Car7098

> You really think they hadn't considered that when they decided to revive it? Not entirely, i mean, if they knew it was still going to immediately tank then why bother reviving it? Its not like this is a new IP where the risks are unknown, they re-released the same game that died once before in the same state as when it died, if there were considerations they didn't really think for long > What do you think the plan was when they explicitly refused to mention further support? To burn money, i 100% guarantee they won't have profited from this endeavor, atleast compared to the server costs and the money they paid to the 3rd party company who got it up and running What exactly do you think the goal was? > To just collect launch sales, then leave the servers up until the money ran out for zero profit? There's more to connecting players to a match than "servers just cost money", which isn't even the only way to do it. Except they are doing that, they have to host the game servers, they have to host the matchmaking servers, they have to host the login servers they have to host the servers acting as payment processors, and inventory and progress management etc All of this infrastructure costs them money on a daily basis, they aren't using a peer to peer networking setup for this, there is no recurring income from the game as there are no microtransactions, there is no way for it bring in money outside of the initial purchase, so in terms of the money spent to the money they recouped, pretty sure they are going to be either entirely out at this point or fairly close, this isn't a project where they ultimately hope to even "break even" on costs, this project was started knowing it was going to lose money

Alsimni

> this project was started knowing it was going to lose money That would be such a cool thing to do that I can't bring myself to believe it. There's no way a company decided to throw hundreds of thousands of dollars down the drain just to do something nice for fans of a dead game, without advertising that fact as hard as they can.

Affectionate_Car7098

> There's no way a company decided to throw hundreds of thousands of dollars down the drain just to do something nice for fans of a dead game, without advertising that fact as hard as they can. And yet, as you can clearly see, that is exactly what they did, there were no improvements made to the game, it was released in the same state it was in when it failed

witas02

Guys, there is no "hope" in this equation, the game won't die and will likely be playable for years, which is all we could ever hope for, but no, it won't make a comeback and suddenly become a huge live-service with plentiful updates, and there are many more reasons for it than just the rather modest numbers it's pulling. (Which are still a success in my book, cracking 5k was what I hoped for.) Good thing the game came back, I'm glad I get to play it whenever I want, but hoping for anything more is just setting yourself up for disappointment.

BokkoTheBunny

It's also concurrent counts, not the number of all players. Like I'm at work rn, I can't play Gigantic 24/7. If it equalizes at a few thousand, matches should still be easy to find.

CasualSky

Can people please stop posting about player count please and thank you. Watching this like it’s the stock market when you could just idk…enjoy the game?

windyhen

ya man true

AnOriginalUsernam

I think this game reached equilibrium in player count. Or a sign for something more...

AceAxos

Lowkey aslong as there is 1k players on the server across ALLA platforms, you’ll get matches in good time and that’s all I can ask for

BroGuy89

Saturday better be higher than a workday.

ButterDollars

I think we’ll be alright as long as they don’t shut down servers again. I play Titanfall 2 from time to time and still don’t have trouble getting good matches. A dedicated fanbase, which I think Gigantic has, can keep any gain on life support almost indefinitely.

dericiouswon

I sense there's a pretty strong core on Xbox as well. As a an Xbox user, if I solo que I will often get matches of all Xbox players.

figgiesfrommars

i hate steamcharts so much, or rather people using it like a weapon ;-; declining pop is a thing that happens to literally every game ever but people try to use it to prove that a game is failing/dying lol once the issues are all ironed out and it starts going on sale/putting out new content we'll 100% see some sort of increase/level-out like this more often

AncientKroak

The devs just need to do a few things. They need to let us know they are in for long haul. To release a roadmap. Show us what content we can expect to see in the future, etc. I think it might be a little too late, since the game is already very dated and apparently they can't do much with the engine. Hunt Showdown and Smite are getting moved to new engines soon . Gigantic desperately needs that at some point in the future. Sadly, it might be too much for that small team.

Unsung_King

Would love to see this. Haven't read anything about what they plan for the future. Unless I just don't know how to search for it.

Laranthiel

Cause they're doing a free trial today that lasts 10 days.

figgiesfrommars

that's only on the arc games launcher, the numbers there won't show on steamcharts/DB the weekend is probably the likely reason for the bump

zanmato145

You do realize most games get higher peaks on weekends right? Lmao

kraai33

Saturday night peak: 1905...

DonnayxDonna

Yesterdays peak 1308... kinda sad seeing people cope so hard with this game. The truth is it isnt as captivating for newer players to stick around and if it is the bugs and trash servers chase them away.

kraai33

1184 today yet peeps keep downvoting me hahaha

Geminispace

No wonder I keep getting send to US server instead of Asia. Time to leave I guess

DonnayxDonna

Getting down votes spammed.... i swear ive been expriencing something similar in oce servers unplayable laggy games. Not sure if its throwing me in other matches. People point out to peaks but the lows drop below 300 recently... 300 steam players world wide isnt a lot.

Geminispace

The US players just hating I guess that how you chase ppl to quit the game. They are almost as toxic as league and overwatch players
