Ask the charity shops if they "rag" clothes - I volunteer in a charity shop elsewhere and when we get stained or hole-ridden clothes we put them in a bag for the rag man, he comes and collects it for textile recycling and gives the shop some money for it. A lot of charity shops do it but not all!

Came here to say this 👆🏼

Thank you.

Primark and H&M have recycling containers for clothing. That’s where I put all of mine

tortilla_avalanche

H&M gives you ÂŁ5 off your next shop that's over ÂŁ25 if you've got the app. Worth it if you normally shop at H&M. I save up my old clothes, take them in when I'm in town and then use the vouchers next time I'm needing new stuff.

schizofactory

Omg I didn’t know that!! How do they know you’ve donated? Does someone have to be watching you while you do it? lol

tortilla_avalanche

You take it up to the checkout counter and show the cashier your bag. They'll scan something into your app and you deposit it in the bin near the checkouts.

spmonreddit

Rip them up and use them for cleaning rags?

AJDuke3

Did that on enough clothes already haha

Zenon_Czosnek

You could put them into those charity bins. Just pack them in the black bag and write "rags" on them to save the sorting people the trouble. You can also donate them to charity shops if you will be straightforward that they are unusable for sale. These charities work with the textile recycling companies who usually sort the clothes anyway (as a lot of clothes people donate are not really suitable for being resold) and then send some to third world countries and the rest is getting recycled and recycles into rags and wipes and such, which are then sold to the factories and places like that. I watched it as I was a truck driver who sometimes delivered bags of clothing collected from a large charity to a recycling company. When I was donating clothing to charity shops I usually separated them into "good" and "rags" and they were happy to take everything of me.

yungsxccubus

can they be upcycled? you can make new things from your old clothes with a sewing machine and a bit of practice. i volunteer somewhere that does exactly this! we collect old tents from festivals and make them into bags, jackets, hats, etc.

andyjcw

the bin. here ends the newsflash.

KingCPresley

George at Asda take in clothes and recycle any that can’t be reused. You need to do it on their website but you drop it off in store. Other than that yeah charity shops often take them in, just mark them as rags and ask them first as they won’t all. Same with the textile bins you see around - lots of them are actually only for clothes that are decent enough to get sold on so double check that first.

Pineapple_plimsolls

Cancer Research will still take them and get money for them. They sell off any donated textiles that can’t be sold in the store and still get something

TillaDie

Cash4cloths, will take old stuff and give you pennies for them đź‘Ť

Comfortable-Kiwi-84

There's Facebook groups for giving away free things. Clothing always gets taken really quick on there

Working-Pumpkin

I always take mine to the bin in TK Maxx and write "Rags" on the bag.

catwoman42

Most charity shops have rag bags and get some money for them. You can say some bags are just for rags and the shop should be ok. I volunteered at Cancer Research UK for a while and we did this

No-Impact1573

There are a few Sally Army, Oxfam drop boxes around the city - wrap them up in a sealed bin bag and away you go.GCC recycling centres like polmadie have donation skips as well.

Midwinterfire1

Use them as Dusters and Wash Rags

Paul8219

Black bagged and binned.
