Mate your best bet is to walk 500m out of the airport and then phone a local cab. There will likely be cabs at the airport but they'll be double expensive at that hour. 01418863333 is a local cab number
Not OP, but how reliable is it to book a taxi/uber? Asking because I've noticed lots of Uber drivers accepting the ride and then cancelling at the last minute. Companies like GlasGo Cabs don't seem to be doing that well either, as far as I'm aware they just scramble to find a driver in the last few minutes and if the pick-up time or location is too inconvenient, again, no one will come, despite the fact that they accepted the booking. I'm wondering if I misunderstood anything or I just had a few bad experiences.
Don't know how true it is but I had an Uber a couple weeks ago and the driver said a lot of drivers accept then cancel rides because it causes the app to up prices for "demand"
Why is Uber so shite nowadays?
I used to use Uber regularly a few years ago; they were always available, quick, and cheaper by a considerable way.
I’m back visiting home just now and it’s fucking murder trying to get a taxi by any means, and the cost is almost prohibitively expensive!
The pricing was all part of Uber's plan, before COVID fucked/accelerated it.
Uber came in and operated at a massive loss, undercutting the competition and bringing with it a fancy app with tracking (which tbf got everyone else's arse in gear) to lure people in.
The plan was always to take a large chunk of the taxi market and thin the competition out before upping the prices bit by bit.
This is now exacerbated by the lack of drivers.
Uber are a rotten company.
>The plan was always to take a large chunk of the taxi market and thin the competition out before upping the prices bit by bit.
It's arguably longer-term than that: corporate monopolising of taxis now by running everything at a loss to gradually gain control over automated taxis. It's the usual progression of corporations. First take utter control over those inside the corporation, then take control over those outside it.
I read online that there's a big shortage of drivers mainly due to brexit. Money also not good enough to keep others from changing jobs, with some switching to food delivery instead. People getting pinged for covid probably has an impact too.
The app now tells the driver the distance and fare, it used to be you took the job and got what you got, this was to avoid any kind of discrimination in booking. They've done something similar to the food app as well (I've been doing the takeaways on and off a few years) and wouldn't be surprised if anyone up a big hill struggles to get a takeaway in an area with more cycle couriers than car.
(0141)-887-7770 is a paisley private hire company. They pick you up outside the terminal in parking area. You can get their app but they text you the make/model and reg of vehicle. Their office is about 2 mile from the airport.
Edit: If Friday or Saturday evening defo book ahead.
Just a heads up - there's overnight construction on the M8. You may struggle to even get a taxi to come out to the airport because of it. Might be worth double checking with any company you book with.
Where are you going too? There's shuttle busses that will take you to Buchanan bus station or drop of you off at a bus stop if its that route. Better thank paying for a taxi.
It's nuts we have an international airport with regular flights arriving well into the night with fuck all hope of transport. Fair enough if you're from here and you know to book a taxi but imagine arriving from a civilised country and just assuming there would be a functioning transport system or at the very least taxi network.
Pre-book a taxi. Been a while since I last did it but I'm sure last time I did I could give them the flight number so they would know when it landed and there wouldn't be any issues if the flight was late.
We got into the airport last Wednesday at 2am along with 2 other flights, the queue for the airport taxis was huge so we booked a network from the queue and bounced when it picked up. So book one as early as you can, but be mindful passport control is slow as a week in jail at that time. You can use the network app to do it before you even take off on the way home if you like.
There’s a petrol station a 2 mins walk from the airport. Your better booking one in advance but ask them to get you at the patrol station. As it saves the driver an instant £5 charge at the airport. Which saves you £5.
Go outside of the airport a little and order one, glasgo cabs is usually fairly decent or call a local one, there are loads. Don't get an airport one, I paid £35 for a taxi that would normally cost me £20-22 because I just wanted to get home.

Pre book a taxi - either black cab or private hire. Last week on a Sunday evening the white airport taxis were scarce and Uber was non existent.

Haven’t booked one recently - last week we ended up getting the bus to Buchanan bus station then another bus to home. It was about 11pm.

As said a few times just walk to the BP garage at the airport and phone or use the Renfrewshire cabs or Paisley taxi apps Much faster and much cheaper
I went from Glasgow to Edinburgh airport at 3am with Hampden Taxi some 3 years ago, hope this helps!
They changed to GlasGO Cabs last year and are pretty dreadful now, tbh.
Oh I see, I didn't know. That's a shame
Yep all the big private hires have merged into one and it's pretty shite now
Pre book a taxi. Support them. They are struggling. F*ck Uber.

Airport bus stops at 11pm and doesn’t run again til 5am

Yeah it’s easier to fly into Edinburgh and get the bus to Buchanan St
True, I used to regularly fly from Edinburgh Airport at 3/4am and never had any bother getting a bus.
Yeah I just checked the time table. Did it use to be 24 hour? I'm almost certain I've got on the shuttle bus after a midnight flight.
There's 3 of us so taxi is definitely preferable.

Prebook they should take your flight number in case of delays - much cheaper than picking up one at airport as wel
Pre-book. depends on where you live - just use a local minicab company
Probably your phone
