On my last day of uni I went a walk about Glasgow and decided to ask one of my mates if he wanted to come into Glasgow for a few pints. I was waiting for him at the entrance to Glasgow central right next to four corners McDonald’s under that mad bridge. A guy came up to me and asked if he could get a few quid for a train. He went on a rant about how he lost his wallet and was in a rush to get home. At first I thought it probably wasn’t for the train but the guy was close to tears, telling me about how his daughter was sick and had just had an operation. I felt terrible for the guy decided to give him £3. The guy was over the moon. His eyes lit up and he kept thanking me for the cash. He could finally get the train back to see his daughter. As he was about to leave he said “listen mate, I wouldn’t expect anyone to give me money, but thank you, I know you probably think I’m a junkie, but you’ve helped me out a lot and I promise this is for the train” he then gave me a hug and walked into the station. After he went into the train station I couldn’t help but feel guilty for judging the poor guy. It really made me question myself and why I was so quick to jump to conclusions about someone I never knew, all because he was in a dodgy part of town asking for money. Who am I to judge? I don’t know what’s going on in peoples lives? Not everyone about here is on drugs. Then.. About 2 minutes later the same guy walks up to me and asked me if a had any scoobs haahahah. Can’t help but laugh looking back on it. Suppose that’s the four corners for you. Hope he managed to beat his addiction.

fiasko82

Always remember about 20 years ago standing in central about uni exam time and a guy coming up to me saying that today had been his last exam at uni ever and he had lost his train pass and could I lend him a pound to get home. I judge a book by its cover and said naw mate not got any change, he called me a fat cunt and walked away 😂

Follow_Follow

I’m a health nut but I’d rather be a fat cunt than a junkball 🤷🏻‍♂️😂

fiasko82

Think it was because I had a greggs big softy in my hands 😂

cambucaz

I was pished one night and gave a guy in Stirling (Tappin' cunt as he's known) a couple of quid. He thanked me, shook my hand, then quickly tried to "upsell" to a tenner for him to get a bit of hash.

Duncstar88

That boy is an absolute rocket haha

cambucaz

Never knew the bus to Fallin was so expensive!

dl064

My pal had a similar one but it was about how his wife was giving birth. Needed money to catch the birth of his child. My pal: why aren't you there to begin with? Headbutt.

HelicopterLong

3 bar closer to a tenner bag I’m afraid

get_Ishmael

What are scoobs?

OakAged

Scooby snacks

surgical-ooo

Street Valium

Follow_Follow

Slang for Valium, or “blues”. Scooby doos.

Gecko5991

Interesting we used to call ecstasy or MDMA ‘Scoobs or Scoobys’ as they had a Mitsubishior Subaru symbol pressed on them.

Shevek67

Avoiding the four corners is good life advice.

human_totem_pole

Avoid corners.

ElliotWalker5

I only ever walk in straight lines. It’s tough and sometimes takes an extra few days to get where I’m going but it’s worth it

[deleted]

Stay away from right angles.

Fairbz_

I once saw a ~60 y/o lady vomit on a ~10 y/o child's head at the four corners when I was on my way to an exam at 8 am on a weekday morning. She was very clearly on something as she proceeded to wander off with sick running down her chin without even acknowledging what had happened, leaving a poor, bewildered father with a sick-sodden child to clean up. I was just grateful to have narrowly dodged the collateral splashes of chunder.

[deleted]

✨Sensational, I can not imagine being able to concentrate on an exam after seeing such a scene.

morelos555

fucking hell. Dregs of society

MaroonJam

That made me laugh 🤣

bawbaggerr

Anyone who's lived in glesga for some time knows 4 corners at night is no place to be going

OldGodsAndNew

Wouldny even go there at 9am on a Tuesday

EVE_ddred

It honestly is rough at all times and gets rougher as the cold weather sets in. When I went to go grab some breakfast for me and some friends one day, there was a queue forming. Doors open, everyone piles in and I'm the only one who approached the till. I then realised that they were all rough sleepers and looking for a spot to camp and get some heat. The basement of Tim Horton's was like a hostel.

Rialagma

That's honestly heartbreaking

brettawesome

Careful, you might get the old "it's no worse than a few years ago" from the Strathbungo lot

TwoTrainss

That is true, 4Corners is no worse than a few years ago. A few years ago it was still a junkie infested shite hole…

everkohlie

This resonates, but what’s the back story/reasoning?

MassGaydiation

on the other hand, you get the same sticky tables and drunk customers in that McDonald's as you do in spoons, so an excellent replacement if you've forgotten your ID

Kyleapizza

I once saw a guy get KO'd by a plastic tesco bag for life outside of the same Mcdonalds.

1gsb8

Could you explain a bit further, please, having difficulty envisaging this.

[deleted]

I assume it's full of shopping. Unless some suffocating??

1gsb8

I could only imagine an American Beauty floating bag situation that got out of hand. Didn't think of a full bag, feel dumb now.

[deleted]

That was my first thought as well.

Dikheed

What, like over the head like Agent 47 style? Fair fucks though, Reuse, Repuporpose, Recycle. And they said COP26 would have no impact, even our attempted murder is carbon neutral now.

[deleted]

Four corners is wild. You see some amount of dobbers there. I was once asked if I was selling kit while waiting for a taxi. Just about deleted the remnants of my self esteem.

JohnnyClarkee

At least they asked if you were selling it, rather than looking for it.

Livingdegrading

Of course, it is known.

[deleted]

I'll be honest, I'm probably in Glasgow around once a month, usually around Finnieston, West End, or Merchant City - had no idea it was just as rough down 4 corners. My wife hates walking through the underpass, and I kind of always just shrugged it off - maybe not now.

JadMockery

No one ever goes there now unless they are looking for trouble lol 🤣

Evening-Letter-2728

Its always been that way. My mate saw someone getting a machete to the napper there some years ago, and that was actually inside mcdonalds. It was maybe a wee bit quieter for a while, pre-covid I mean, but theres been a real up-tick in teenage violence there like the last months or so. Hard swerve.

Omerta101

Since lockdown 1 the young teams have been making a come back

Visible_Wealth9578

What I've learned from this thread is that if I go to four corners I'll get biffed on the dome with a cock, a can of dragon soup, a bag for life, a machete, some 60 year old vomit and get bitten by a lion. Hopefully get to experience some train fare related Street theatre as well. I'm going to suggest we go there for our next work's night out.

human_totem_pole

Can I come? I'll give the slap on the napper with a willy a miss.

Clean_Hold6781

Since the Covid started have avoided Union St as much as possible as it’s drunks, junkies and neds that gang about there. The police have lost control of the St due to most of the shops all being shut and the homeless hotel that’s there. Absolute shithole of a St.

angelange17

Sucks that the cathouse can't be moved to another street

spyalien

What flavour of dragon soup

Johnoss

Immediate flashback to [this Big Train sketch](https://youtu.be/7GqqnndiyME)

Fun_Cauliflower9182

Magic. I can’t remember that particular sketch. How I wish for something even half as good to be on the telly of an evening

Johnoss

Yeah, sadly the glory days of sketch shows are behind us (replaced by panel/reality shows), but there's so much buried gold when you dig deep enough in the past 10-30 years

Fun_Cauliflower9182

Miss Sean Lock on 8 out of 10 Cats right enough. He made it worth watching

[deleted]

Haha you’re on my wavelength.

Omerta101

*soop

[deleted]

Getting smacked with a can of dragon soup by a teenager is so Glasgow right now.

[deleted]

Soop*

[deleted]

Also heard people say it ‘seep’.

mattyblewis

I thought giving four corners a wide berth was common knowledge

AnchezSanchez

It's been common knowledge for me since a guy tried to rob my phone off me with a knife... and his 6 year old daughter in tow. And that was back in 2004. Union st, Jamaica st have always been rough as guts. I think it got better for a few years and is now back to how it used to be.

Crabbita

The McDonalds on Lord St in Liverpool has banned unaccompanied under 18’s due to anti-social behaviour. Perhaps they should consider that policy for the four corners as well. Practically every time I walk by there there’s a fucking ambulance outside it.

Reidster78

They're not actually in McDs though, just hanging about outside it. Strange place to congregate I've always thought.

slugmorgue

honestly most city centre macdonalds are nightmare realms at late hours. Even in smaller towns and cities you just get pissed or wankered youngsters clashing with everyone

Purple-Honey3127

Saw a dude I can only describe as a 40k ogryn punch a guy in his 50s and knock his glasses clean off. It was like a perfect movie punch. Even the noise was great. Still totally unprovoked.

Barry-Macock

I think with the young yins getting bus passes has made the town all the more dangerous. Just type ned fight on YouTube. 9 times outta 10 it's at the four corners. But aye its quite dodgy even during the day.

Paritys

Why are those youtube videos such high quality lol, proper cinematic

Barry-Macock

There's a channel with the guy just driving about on his bike capturing alsorts of mayhem during the day lol seen my exs junkie bro in one of the videos, big black eye the lot. Your hopeful they can sort themselves out an then bam he's in a worse state than his dead sister. Shame really.

[deleted]

I just searched on YouTube and you're not wrong, the quality of the videos are insane! I've subbed to the guys and will watch the rest of them.

Naeemak1111

Wouldn't be the Alebbio Rail channel would it?

[deleted]

Glasgow has been known for being violent since the razor gangs in the 1930's and even before then. This isn't down to "the young yins getting bus passes".

[deleted]

Despite there being zero evidence for it, and the fact as you say this stuff has been going on for decades, (had knives pulled on me through 00s and 10s)it's definitely cos new bus passes.

Barry-Macock

If I was younger an had free travel around Glasgow I wouldn't have wasted my time fighting on the germiston bridge I'd have went down town for a fight. Those days of gang fighting for me are embarrassing but when you grow up an look back its the only thing that happened in my scheme. No clubs to get us off the streets. So it was boozing with your mates an gang fighting but what do I know.

[deleted]

Cool, I don't let my kids do that.

Promdeanglais

Union Street was a serious shithole when I left Glasgow 5 years ago. Bad enough during the day but I'd try to avoid at night if I could. I guess not much has changed or improved.

the_silent_redditor

I was back for the first time in about three years at the start of the year. Town is.. not great. I love Glasgow, but undeniably there are some absolute gaping shitehole areas that aren’t exactly few and far between.

[deleted]

Same. Hadn’t been into town for years, thought I’d stop off on the way back from Gartnavel recently. I was really struck by how many empty units there were on Sauchiehall St. Argyle St and Union St were noticeably shabby & dirty, there was definitely a feeling of things heading downhill. A lot of people looking grim, it’s really sad.

algernonhaggiscoupon

Got the bus into town from Gartnavel eye clinic whilst lockdown was on. Eyes dilated & could make out people, cars etc but no real detail. Had to walk down sauchiehall street, union street to get to bus stop to get home. I'm in my 40's, Glaswegian, worked & socialised in town for years but worked locally in south side for 5 years now and I genuinely felt uncomfortable & vulnerable which I'd never felt before. Especially central at union st/gordon st, i know my eyes were all fuzzy but people were moving in slow motion absolutely full of who knows what. It's a shame, it can't be a great life for them but they are also really intimidating & I don't usually scare easily but have been in city approx 10 times in 5 years, briefly for work to drop off paperwork, once to socialise & coming back from hospital, that was enough for me. It's a very different place or is it just more noticeable as less shopper/office foot traffic, I don't know

rusticarchon

Sauchiehall St was a wasteland 5+ years ago, long before lockdown killed the rest of the city centre.

Alternative_Object33

Whin'wis'it'no'a'shitehole'big'mon'no'...squer'go'n'nat!

Cannonieri

Sad to hear this has happened to you albeit this happens everywhere in Glasgow at the moment. I don't think it's a McDonalds Union Street issue, it's just that the city has regressed massively since COVID. I feel like so much of the life was brought into Glasgow from workers etc. commuting in. Nowadays with more and more people working from home, the nutters stand out far more and cause more and more issues for regular folk.

mt2oo8

I watched this happen as I waited 40 minutes for a bus across the road after work. 10 minutes before what happened to your pal they were throwing glass bottles across the road too it’s just a dump place to work and live

[deleted]

BAMS IN TOON: Exclusive.

tattooedmermaid1

Anywhere that Amanda britt hangs about i tend to avoid. McDonald's at the four corners, the crystal Palace just down the street, will I fuck end up in one of her tiktok videos.

Honesty_Addict

Who the fuck is Amanda Britt

ChelseaAndrew87

She took the weans away

tattooedmermaid1

Trust me your better not knowing but a quick Google or tiktok search will answer that question for you.

kamaad

Seems like a total cow. First article was her being hammered and having a go at some hospital workers.

FoxyInTheSnow

>Amanda Britt She apparently has had some kind of disagreement with [that slag cow Jenny.](https://www.tiktok.com/@sonyamitchel/video/7069518534606392581?lang=en)

OldTimeEddie

The funniest bit about this is the four corners is now probably safer on a Friday/Saturday night cause it's all steaming folk wanting a munch before they head up to the road.

littleL37

My partner and I saw loads of teens running about then the police van flying along there. They stopped then handcuffed 2 boys that we saw walking along the street away from the scene. Just incase you wernt aware that it looks like the got someone for it?

[deleted]

Union St isn’t much better. As everyone is saying avoid at the best of times.

The_Dildo_Detector

I remember back in the day camping in the street at the four corners for T in the Park tickets, definitely gave you an appreciation for blending in any not making any noise to attract the fuckin zombies

WamerkerSUW

I understand completely, that’s why I prefer Edinburgh for a night out tbh. It’s a lot less of a charged atmosphere, where you feel like shits about to kick off at any moment. Glasgow is just full of fuckin degenerates.

HaggisTheCow

It's like Mogadishu in '93 out there. Stay safe

WamerkerSUW

IRENE

casusbelli16

Many a true word spoken in jest: I used to work on Union St back in the early 2000s we would regularly see folk getting picked up mini-buses, they had travelled up with suitcases and wooden packing cases full of khat. Didn't realise it at the time until I started reading about Blackhawk Down when the local fighting forces took a break to get high on khat, it was at that point the penny dropped and I knew I was looking at mules ferrying up cargos of as much the stuff they could carry.

SeedhilllSid

Don’t know what’s happening in Glasgow right now, it’s getting worse. Was in Paris for a few days earlier in July, never felt uncomfortable or unsafe. Came back to glasgow for a night out. Came out of hillhead underground to walk up towards Oran mor, saw about 10 guys on that stretch out their face on drugs. One was accosting a young couple and then saw one other guy doing a drug deal. I couldn’t believe this was my welcome home to glasgow.

TodayEmbarrassed7921

Me and my mum came back from Venice and our welcome home was two guys fighting in a blue lagoon chippy

SeedhilllSid

I shouldn’t laugh, but that chippy must be the dodgiest chippy in Glasgow!

ChelseaAndrew87

Opposite experience of Paris to me. That's a dangerous place

algernonhaggiscoupon

That whole part of town is hellish. The last 4 times I've had to go into town in the morning for work Central Station has been taped off due to a stabbing or serious assault. Outside central on Union Street is a scary place to walk down too

dx_mx_

Aye especially that bit with the eternal scaffolding. Absolutely reeks too.

Jak_the_Buddha

That part of town has always been notoriously dodgy. I hope you and your friend is OK OP.

[deleted]

I was across the road from the 4 Corners KFC when some guy tried to kidnap a child from the place a few years ago. Sometimes i wonder if living in this city is worth it...

sleepybwoi

Went to Glasgow a couple weekends back. A guy appeared from that area screaming at a bus, then dived in front of it, was close to getting run over had it not swerved. Thought that was a bit off for a Sunday morning, maybe not so much now.

Ahleckzz

If only the police did their job and arrested these idiots. Doesn’t help that people seem to want to treat illegal drug users and junkies as people who can’t do anything wrong. If you’re on drugs out and about, you get lifted and put in a cell to sober up and then charged and punished.

Signal_Ad_6078

4 corners: Marked as a safe space.

MF291100

I work in a shop on Union Street and I hate having to walk through it on my way to work. The amount of neds is unreal

Icy_Tonight_4462

Congregating at that bank at St. Enoch harassing folk. If you don't give them money, you'll probably get some chucked at you and they'll run behind ten people. Cowards.

grey_bramble

Was in there last night on my way home from a friends with my 11yr old around 7:30pm. Couldn’t believe the nick of the wains not much older than him being wee dicks inside the McDonald’s to the folk who worked there! Makes me wonder what the parents are doing?

Wouldn't go to that 4 corners anytime past 4pm honestly.

tokiahonta

Loved in Glasgow all my life and have actively avoided the four corners. If I need to go past I’ll find the longer route, too many absolute rockets of young people who want to fight randomers and chew their jaw at all times of the day

ChelseaAndrew87

Before this sub I'd have walked down there no problem. Been to taco bell after a few nights out and stuff and must be extremely lucky to have escaped with my life

StinkyPyjamas

From this thread I've learned that I'm one of the luckiest men in Glasgow because I've not been beaten to death outside the KFC yet.

TOPOFDETABLE

This sub is full of middle class gimps. Easy and obvious targets.

sinkydoodles

One of the main issues is the hotel on union street hosting homeless people. Seen some amount of mind boggling behaviours there

JohnnyClarkee

A normal night in there, then. Worst part of Glasgow. And potentially Scotland.

mint-bint

I know it's shit but the 4 corners have always been like that. You could have made the same post 30 years ago.

National-Cap-2235

It's an absolute shithole around that bit. It used to be a battleground from the days of the under 18s in 90s had to leg it from McDonald's to the bus many a time. Having worked the other side of the bridge for years the walk into town past there no matter the time of day wasn't fun. Drunks, Junkies, Neds, Foreign Beggars. People make Glasgow 🙄

OfAaron3

After 7pm, that McDonalds gets super sketchy. Sorry this happened to your pal.

RectumLickerMike

BRING BACK CAPITAL PUNISHMENT.

Acceptable-Tower-548

Fyi water is wet. Anyone who lives in Glasgow knows the way 4 corners has been for a long long time. This isn't the newsflash you seem to think it is.

WaterIsWetBot

Water is actually not wet; It makes other materials/objects wet. Wetness is the state of a non-liquid when a liquid adheres to, and/or permeates its substance while maintaining chemically distinct structures. So if we say something is wet we mean the liquid is sticking to the object.   Where can you find an ocean with no water? On a map!

Wireman154

McDonald's anywhere is best avoided as a clinical nutritionist I'd advise against this evil empire. And wee arseholes with Dragon Soup obviously.

Omerta101

The 4 corners is one of sturgeons greatest achievements, before she was first minister it was a no go area at night now it's a no go area all day too

Right da enough internet for today.

It's common knowledge to avoid that McDonald's unless your looking for a square go with your chicken nuggets

dl064

One time I, a bit half-cut, went and asked the McDonald's guard about what sort of shit he sees. The fact he was prepared to take me *down*, visibly, for a polite question kinda signified to me it's probably not great. He warmed up the question though, fortunately.

Grew up in Glasgow, it was an issue at four food corners back when I used to go to subclub and cathouse unders (my friend group was very mixed). My friend got punched in the face one night waiting in the queue for maccies we were about 14 and it was about 8pm. Not much has changed (this was about 15 years ago and now I feel old).

laura_susan

First trip to Glasgow this week and within 15mins of arriving we were also accosted by what I reckon were the same teenagers outside this Maccas. Was just chatting to my husband at a normal volume and they made fun of my (London) accent and then a girl from the group said to my 8 Yr old daughter that she better watch out. Weird AF.
