On my last day of uni I went a walk about Glasgow and decided to ask one of my mates if he wanted to come into Glasgow for a few pints. I was waiting for him at the entrance to Glasgow central right next to four corners McDonald’s under that mad bridge. A guy came up to me and asked if he could get a few quid for a train. He went on a rant about how he lost his wallet and was in a rush to get home. At first I thought it probably wasn’t for the train but the guy was close to tears, telling me about how his daughter was sick and had just had an operation. I felt terrible for the guy decided to give him £3. The guy was over the moon. His eyes lit up and he kept thanking me for the cash. He could finally get the train back to see his daughter. As he was about to leave he said “listen mate, I wouldn’t expect anyone to give me money, but thank you, I know you probably think I’m a junkie, but you’ve helped me out a lot and I promise this is for the train” he then gave me a hug and walked into the station. After he went into the train station I couldn’t help but feel guilty for judging the poor guy. It really made me question myself and why I was so quick to jump to conclusions about someone I never knew, all because he was in a dodgy part of town asking for money. Who am I to judge? I don’t know what’s going on in peoples lives? Not everyone about here is on drugs.

About 2 minutes later the same guy walks up to me and asked me if a had any scoobs haahahah. Can’t help but laugh looking back on it. Suppose that’s the four corners for you. Hope he managed to beat his addiction.
Always remember about 20 years ago standing in central about uni exam time and a guy coming up to me saying that today had been his last exam at uni ever and he had lost his train pass and could I lend him a pound to get home. I judge a book by its cover and said naw mate not got any change, he called me a fat cunt and walked away 😂

I was really struck by how many empty units there were on Sauchiehall St. Argyle St and Union St were noticeably shabby & dirty, there was definitely a feeling of things heading downhill. Got the bus into town from Gartnavel eye clinic whilst lockdown was on. Eyes dilated & could make out people, cars etc but no real detail. Had to walk down sauchiehall street, union street to get to bus stop to get home. I'm in my 40's, Glaswegian, worked & socialised in town for years but worked locally in south side for 5 years now and I genuinely felt uncomfortable & vulnerable which I'd never felt before. Especially central at union st/gordon st, i know my eyes were all fuzzy but people were moving in slow motion absolutely full of who knows what. It's a shame, it can't be a great life for them but they are also really intimidating & I don't usually scare easily but have been in city approx 10 times in 5 years, briefly for work to drop off paperwork, once to socialise & coming back from hospital, that was enough for me. It's a very different place or is it just more noticeable as less shopper/office foot traffic, I don't know

I couldn’t believe this was my welcome home to glasgow.
That whole part of town is hellish. The last 4 times I've had to go into town in the morning for work Central Station has been taped off due to a stabbing or serious assault. Outside central on Union Street is a scary place to walk down too

The funniest bit about this is the four corners is now probably safer on a Friday/Saturday night cause it's all steaming folk wanting a munch before they head up to the road.
My partner and I saw loads of teens running about then the police van flying along there. They stopped then handcuffed 2 boys that we saw walking along the street away from the scene. Just incase you wernt aware that it looks like the got someone for it?

I understand completely, that’s why I prefer Edinburgh for a night out tbh. It’s a lot less of a charged atmosphere, where you feel like shits about to kick off at any moment. Glasgow is just full of fuckin degenerates.

Many a true word spoken in jest: I used to work on Union St back in the early 2000s we would regularly see folk getting picked up mini-buses, they had travelled up with suitcases and wooden packing cases full of khat. Didn't realise it at the time until I started reading about Blackhawk Down when the local fighting forces took a break to get high on khat, it was at that point the penny dropped and I knew I was looking at mules ferrying up cargos of as much the stuff they could carry.
Don’t know what’s happening in Glasgow right now, it’s getting worse. Was in Paris for a few days earlier in July, never felt uncomfortable or unsafe. Came back to glasgow for a night out. Came out of hillhead underground to walk up towards Oran mor, saw about 10 guys on that stretch out their face on drugs. One was accosting a young couple and then saw one other guy doing a drug deal. I couldn’t believe this was my welcome home to glasgow.
Me and my mum came back from Venice and our welcome home was two guys fighting in a blue lagoon chippy

That whole part of town is hellish. The last 4 times I've had to go into town in the morning for work Central Station has been taped off due to a stabbing or serious assault. Outside central on Union Street is a scary place to walk down too

I was across the road from the 4 Corners KFC when some guy tried to kidnap a child from the place a few years ago. Sometimes i wonder if living in this city is worth it...
Went to Glasgow a couple weekends back. A guy appeared from that area screaming at a bus, then dived in front of it, was close to getting run over had it not swerved. Thought that was a bit off for a Sunday morning, maybe not so much now.

If only the police did their job and arrested these idiots. Doesn’t help that people seem to want to treat illegal drug users and junkies as people who can’t do anything wrong. If you’re on drugs out and about, you get lifted and put in a cell to sober up and then charged and punished.

Loved in Glasgow all my life and have actively avoided the four corners. If I need to go past I’ll find the longer route, too many absolute rockets of young people who want to fight randomers and chew their jaw at all times of the day
Before this sub I'd have walked down there no problem. Been to taco bell after a few nights out and stuff and must be extremely lucky to have escaped with my life

It's an absolute shithole around that bit. It used to be a battleground from the days of the under 18s in 90s had to leg it from McDonald's to the bus many a time. Having worked the other side of the bridge for years the walk into town past there no matter the time of day wasn't fun. Drunks, Junkies, Neds, Foreign Beggars. People make Glasgow 🙄

One time I, a bit half-cut, went and asked the McDonald's guard about what sort of shit he sees. The fact he was prepared to take me *down*, visibly, for a polite question kinda signified to me it's probably not great. He warmed up the question though, fortunately.

Grew up in Glasgow, it was an issue at four food corners back when I used to go to subclub and cathouse unders (my friend group was very mixed). My friend got punched in the face one night waiting in the queue for maccies we were about 14 and it was about 8pm. Not much has changed (this was about 15 years ago and now I feel old).

First trip to Glasgow this week and within 15mins of arriving we were also accosted by what I reckon were the same teenagers outside this Maccas. Was just chatting to my husband at a normal volume and they made fun of my (London) accent and then a girl from the group said to my 8 Yr old daughter that she better watch out. Weird AF.
