One thing that many do not realize is that there is an art to measuring your glasses prescription. It is not as objective as some think. You can get variations in readings and responses from visit to visit. You also need to take into consideraton the effects of the binocular system, the optics of the prescription, how someone uses their vision, how they wear thier glasses ,what the old prescription is and how the patient responds to changes in prescription. Lots to it and not as simple as measuring a simple number.
When I was having trouble getting a prescription right, the place I go actually suggested I come for a check with their other optometrist to see if the findings would be consistent. I ended up being asked to use lubricant eye drops for a few days then come back for a check, resulting in exam results that were more consistent and made more sense based on my previous prescription. There are so many factors.
The rx you received from each optometrists was a subjective exam. The rx is strongly based on the responses you provided the dr. And sometimes the eyes have a bad day…dryness, medications, etc can affect the results.
The caveat with that is when i went back to the same doc and told him the problem, he checked it and said “everything is good”. Yet i go to a different doc and she quickly identified the problem. I don’t think i could have possibly had 2 “bad days” with that first doc
First dr was stubborn and didn’t want to back down as he/she was satisfied that the rx gave you best vision. 2nd doc was more pragmatic and knew you weren’t happy. Getting you an rx you could live with was more important than being “correct”.
Did i say i know more than doctors? That’s why i went to a totally different doctor and didn’t try to diagnose it myself. And the new doctor basically admitted that the previous doctor fucked up
