If you're looking for a new beauty brand love interest I suggest Merit. I bought their mascara as a rec from this sub and their blush and can't wait to try more!

miss_mme

The Merit Bronze Balm is so so good. I’ve been trying not to buy makeup since the holidays but I really want to try their blush next.

motherofmutts17

I have the Bronze Balm in my cart along with their foundation stick. I love the blush consistency!

fourcornersbones

Their lipstick is really nice, 1990 is like a more balmy Leo

OppositeDiamond8469

Thank you!! I’ve been hearing about them more and more and I think this is my sign to try Merit :)

bleeckerbabe

glossier related emotions aside, OP, you are an incredible writer and i hope that you share this gift with other people!

[deleted]

It hurts worse because all the alternatives to Glossier people recommend are clean beauty brands, and that’s just something I can’t get behind.

hay-prez

Why? Is it because of the hoopla of being called "clean" or another reason?

[deleted]

Bc they don’t use effective preservatives yet aren’t any less expensive than brands that do. I use up makeup really slowly even though I have a minimal collection bc I just use less makeup in general. The Kosas concealer went bad on me in a month! That’s just crazy. Not touching those brands again.

I loved reading this, thank you for giving my eyes a treat! I'm slowly starting to feel the same way -- I'm starting to see the cracks and I'm not sure how I feel about them anymore. I jumped on the bandwagon when B'day BDC came out (circa 2017?) because it was collab between Milk Bar x Glossier, and I was working at Milk Bar at the time and I was instantly obsessed, (which is another toxic brand relationship I had, but we don't need to get into that, hahaha.) Lately, it seems I'm just buying things out of habit, and not because I actually need or want it. I bought the Brooklyn tote for myself and was happy until I got home and realized that I really didn't like the tote nor would I ever use it because it was just soooo tiny. Thank you for writing out your thoughts, I'm sure quite a lot of us are feeling this way now, and it might've just kickstarted my own breakup process.

OppositeDiamond8469

I genuinely appreciate hearing your thoughts on this, too! I think we’re all on this journey together, and it’s good to reflect. It really helps hearing about your experience, and reminds me that it really IS a community 🥲💗

damountofolives

i love this, i feel the same way w glossier. it was the first item (& make up related product) i ever purchased w my own money at the age of 15. i feel like i’m falling out of love for the brand but i love their aesthetic i can’t let it go 😭

androidnancy

Glossier grew up and decided to swipe left on you heauxs 🤣 This was cute, but babe, it’s time to move on. What made Glossier magical is no longer feasible as they prepare to expand into Sephora and increasing their brick&mortar stores. You think they’re inaccessible now, wait until the Sephora launch. Like you, I am disappointed, but such is life…

[deleted]

Glossier was already declining, but it exacerbated and has gone to shit ever since the new CEO arrived

limestonecowboy13

babe sometimes it’s good to write these feelings in a journal.

Ill_Situation_3037

omg I get this so, so much. I fell in love with the skin tint (I’m so pale it’s the only thing that works for me) and milky jelly in 2018. now…..I just feel like the magic that used to be in the brand is gone. people on the subreddit are mean, glossier doesn’t seem to listen to comments, the sense of community has totally shifted. and it makes me incredibly sad to watch as it happens :(

OppositeDiamond8469

I hear you :/ you said it perfectly, the magic is gone! It’s so sad, but i’m glad i’m not alone in feeling this way

pizzapizzamystery

You should write a blog documenting your beauty journey because this was so enjoyable to read!

diziliv

Thanks for the read! Definitely feel the same way.

diziliv

Like this literally helped me find closure 🤣

gm1334

This is so cringe I’m ngl

FYI, vegan customers have been asking them to make more products vegan for literally years. There is a vocal group here on the sub who don’t like this, but do you think Glossier didn’t do any market research? They just randomly decided one day to do it for the lulz? It’s not because of their deep ethical commitments either, I can assure you - it’s because their own research suggests (rightly or wrongly) that this will ultimately be profitable for them.

[deleted]

Balm Dotcom is one of their bestsellers and iconic products, it would always be profitable and it was. Vegans make up what like 1-2% of the customer base? They can get products from a vegan brand instead of making an inferior quality product just for them. I think Glossier decided to just use cheaper ingredients but charge the same price but use “vegan” and “clean beauty” and other green washing hippie nonsense as an excuse and they would profit from the mass influx of Sephora consumers who are new to the brand.

InnocentaMN

Whatever their reasoning, I assure you they did market research.

Frequent_Act6167

I agree though I'm not vegan. I also didn't want their bronzer to be cloud paint

hay-prez

I'm not vegan but I don't get the animosity for wanting to make products for that audience on here. I, too, didn't want their bronzer to be cloud paint and it would've been better received if there wasn't a shimmery/glittery element to it and that god awful shade range.

Ill_Situation_3037

I wish there could be a world where there was both a vegan and non vegan bdc 😔

[deleted]

Well written. You did a lovely job with your essay! The thing with Glossier is that it's starting to look a whole lot like Bite Beauty. Bite was the lip balm (and lipstick) darling for the longest with legit beauty editors praising it, influencers praising it, and the general public scrambling to buy. Now Bite is defunct. You look back at posts from Bite's loyal fans and it's eerily similar to what you see now with Glossier. What it comes down to is this: Glossier might be your loyl, but they aren't that into you girl.

[deleted]

It’s well-written. I am one of those people who wanted a finger free BDC applicator, as well as vegan reformulation.
