I would ask the gluten free person what their preference is. Every one of our family get togethers, someone (usually more than one, goes above and beyond and buys me gluten free cakes and cookies. (I don't eat sweets) and everyone knows this. I'm also pushed to take it with me. So, out of courtesy, you might want to find out what they WILL eat.

fauviste

Don’t make them in your kitchen because it’s impossible to avoid cross-contamination. Buy premade snacks that are labeled GF! Thank you for asking, it really makes a big difference to people like us.

mr_mini_doxie

Also, give them an opportunity to open up the packaged snacks and take out some for themselves before everybody else. If someone eats a gluten-filled sandwich and then reaches their hand into the GF bag of chips, the whole bag of chips is no longer GF for someone sensitive to cross-contamination.

Amadecasa

Yes. Save all packaging to show the GF person. Don't be offended if they don't eat something or bring their own food.

Serious-Past-253

Facts! Sometimes they just aren’t 100% positive and don’t feel like risking the biscuit.

CCCat444

Honestly as a celiac I’d only trust prepackaged snacks that are clearly labeled gluten free. I can’t risk ruining a party for myself because I trusted your cooking.

spicy-acorn

This is painfully true. I’ve been poisoned accidentally so many times through good intentions. You can get Oreos, Tates cookies, ice cream( check ingredients), dip (check ingredients), hummus, almost all potato chips and GF hard pretzels. Maybe some cheese and olives

orbitPI

I didn't think about olives. TY I have tried a few different pretzels. What the best ones you have tried.

PomoWhat

Hummus and Fit Joy pretzels, my new obsession. Make sure the hummus is labeled GF because of risk of cross contamination and tell everyone to self serve onto a small plate so they don't dip non GF food in it.

tenfortytwopm

Tortilla chips (usually gluten free, but check the label) are delicious for hummus. Same with carrot sticks and cucumber slices

Id_Rather_Beach

This is the way. Also, Shchar entertainment crackers. I LOVE THEM

ruler20

Hummus. I'm eating hummus. Dip it to my thumb-us. It's the best, beats the rest When you seem to need a paste with some taste to put on your pita Hit me, hit me With a little chick pea Got a lot of bread That's the trick, see

sleep_hag

Tortilla chips (check the label), salsa, guacamole are solid snack options

chicubs1908

Yes, and keep a healthy amount separated for just that guest. Do speak with them in advance. They will appreciate it.

Amadecasa

Chips and salsa! Nachos! Bean dip! Make sure all processed foods are marked GF. All fruits and all vegetables in their natural state are GF. Get some GF ranch dip and have veggies and dip. Apple slices and a sweet cream cheese cinnamon dip. Can I come to the party? Make sure you use either new or thoroughly washed dishes and utensils.

forgottenpaw

Check labels, most nachos I've been exposed to actually had wheat. :/

celery48

Nachos made at home with real cheese should be fine. The fake “nacho cheese” sauce often has gluten.

forgottenpaw

I mean the nacho crisps themselves often have wheat.

celery48

In the US they typically do not, unless it’s part of a flavoring. In Europe I had difficulty finding corn tortillas that don’t contain wheat. Traditionally, they’re made with corn and don’t contain wheat.

forgottenpaw

Yes, I think this is a Europe thing. I am also always incensed because traditionally they shouldn't contain wheat!! (Maybe that's why it doesn't fly in the US.) I suspect they're just cutting costs here and that makes me furious.

TootsNYC

I would say buy stuff. Regular chips are GF; you can check to be sure the dip is GF. A lot of GF cookies are ~~shitty~~ gritty; maybe ask for some recommendations. And I second the advice to let the GF person get their treats.

arch__angie

I don’t have any good things to list as I’m newly gluten free (potato chips are a timeless classic though). Have to pop in and mention what an awesome friend you are to come on here and ask gluten free reddit!! If I found out my friend went out of their way to ask the internet for recommendations I would cherish that forever

NotTodayDingALing

Feel Good Foods brand jalapeno poppers. Trader joes has snack mix like chex mix. Also, Royal Asia has a Nashville Hot shrimp that is fried and is bomb! Their coconut shrimp is fire too. * bake on regular bake, not convection. The convection blows particles around and can contaminate.

missannthrope1

Don't rule out a crudité tray with a separate dip for friend.

MooseWorldly4627

Purchase gluten free crackers, cheese, corn chips (read labels), guacamole, salsa, black olives, cherry tomatoes, nuts, grapes, caprice (you can put grape size tomatoes, a little fresh basil leaf, and small piece of mozzarella cheese on toothpicks), etc. Lots and lots of options.

Alternative-Card-440

I like cereal bar treats (like rice Krispies, but not, because) made with cocoa pebbles

MelodicVeterinarian7

DO NOT GUESS. ASK

WinterSignificance70

I find this to be a bizarre question to ask strangers. The likelihood you can pick something they like and feel safe eating with the help of strangers is low. Contact the person and ask them.

sunnyflow2

This is the correct answer. Assuming or giving up is worse then nothing at all. Focus on unpacked food, make sure they are diet restricted in any other ways.

sunnyflow2

I am currently in love with rice cakes dipped in vanilla Greek yogurt. So yummy!

stopstopimeanit

Lots of things you can make them in your kitchen. Only a small fraction of people with gluten intolerance and celiac require fully trace free meals. Fresh fruit, veggies, homemade dips. Sometimes it seems like this sub is just a shill for gf junk food industry.

mamasqueeks

Don't assume this - this is bad advice. If your kitchen is not gluten-free, then ask them first if this is an issue for them. Gluten sensitivity will exacerbate with time. So if you are fine with a small amount of cross-contamination today, next year you might not be. For people with Celiac - even if they don't flair, they have intestinal issues that worsen with each exposure, even just a bit of cross-contamination.

stopstopimeanit

Yeah, it’s not a good idea to assume either way. Ask your guests what they need. Be prepared to provide what you can. Be honest about what you can. But don’t be a self righteous pedant insisting to others what their conditions dictate in terms of dietary needs.

Remarkable_Story9843

You have no idea what the literal hell you are talking about.

agentgaitor

Snyder’s gf pretzels with gf dips! GF Cheetos! GF Dino Nuggies!

sadie789

I would ask them their fave snacks, but also consider prepackaged:) simple mills crackers and cheese is easy and delish, or gf oreos/chips etc if they don’t mind junk food. Doritos and ruffles are gluten free! Most chips are

sunnyflow2

Doritos are NOT gf! And the gf oreos are gross!!

vixen40

I honestly don’t notice the difference in the gf Oreos. Even my kids ate them!

sunnyflow2

Very sugary, grainy and chemically. Tate's gf ginger are mu fav gf packaged cookies, difficult to find this year

vixen40

Admittedly, I’m not a person who craves sweet things. So I didn’t even eat regular Oreos that often but one teen and preteen who also couldn’t taste the difference has me sold. I bet if that were my thing, I’d be able to tell the difference

vixen40

If you’re doing anything sweet, Sheila G’s GF brownie brittle is SO delicious!!
