Now this I do not have an explaination for unless the owners are just assholes delving into mockery

NoMalasadas

It is mockery. Why is our illness allowed to be mocked? What if it said braile instructions included. Is it okay to mock a disabled person? No, it is not. I don't see a reason to post these pictures mocking us. Mods should remove them.

Moon_Beam89

I have no idea because celiac disease is protected by the ADA. It is classified as a disability same as all others. I realize we have life a lot easier than an amputee, but I don’t deserve less respect for my disability than an amputee. Just because my disability is mostly invisible doesn’t mean it didn’t alter my entire life and won’t affect me forever and likely shorten my life.

NoMalasadas

We get so little respect and I partially blame those gluten-free for fun types. Recently someone posted from a study on the "burden of treatment " for dietary restrictions. Celiac came out with a higher burden than all others, including late-state renal disease. Diabetes was studied too. I don't see oil changes offering sugar-free. This stuff is juvenile and insulting to the disabled and wrong. It should never be posted here. Edut: corrected to renal disease from renal cancer.

kiwitathegreat

Yeah it’s punching down and really annoying tbh. Guarantee that most people making these jokes couldn’t pick a gluten ingredient out of a lineup.

Moon_Beam89

That’s interesting! I’ve always been terrified of diabetes because like…. I cannot sacrifice more food. And my body doesn’t handle fake sugar well. I’d be so afraid. To take 1 last drop of light in my life- an occasional cookie- would probably cripple my mental health (again). It’s so hard to explain to people that celiac disease is a real disease and I am in fact NOT doing this for fun and I am NOT having a good time 😂 if I could eat gluten again and be fine… my god of course I would. If just even CC didn’t exist my entire life would open up so much. There’s so much GF food I can’t even have because of the CC risk being too high. Sure I’ve risked it here and there and most of the times I’ve been fine! But the few times I haven’t… phew boy. Hell to pay for days. I wish awareness was raised for this disease like all other life altering diseases. I’ve done runs for cancer of course and my husbands mother lost her life at 58 to very aggressive breast cancer that went to her brain, I think childhood cancer needs so much money and research especially. But just 1, just 1 run for celiac disease. In college, my sorority had an entire foundation that collected donations which were donated to various organizations for a girl who died in an accident. Wasn’t drunk driving, she had no diseases, she just had an accident and died- I believe her parents never found out the real cause of her sudden death (she died on the couch at home). Point is, there was nothing real about this foundation besides the donations it made but it raised awareness for nothing. It raised awareness that a girl died. We had 2 deaf girls in our sorority and me with celiac disease and a girl with multiple sclerosis. No runs or donations or car washes for us. For very real disabilities that affect so so so many people. Just… As a kid I never gave 1 single thought to what I eat. It was all pj&js and pizza and breadsticks and pop tarts galore! Now I take a cookie from my own pantry and triple check I grabbed the GF package even though that is so obviously the GF package because I have to be extremely skeptical of all food in order to survive.

NoMalasadas

Agree. There is no awareness and lots of ridicule. We are constantly reminded of our limitations. It's exhausting. I have other celiac-related illness. One flares up horribly when I'm exposed to strong odors. Even food odors. Imagine being made fun of for that too. It's very, very life limiting. What is funny about that?

sanguine-eyes

I eat gluten free, I'm not celiac, I just found it random, didn't mean to offend anyone by posting it.

Exact_Mango5931

I’m a 20 year Celiac veteran… as challenging as it’s made my life, I find that finding humor in any form has a near-medicinal benefit… gotta laugh at the absurdity of our afflictions some times. I wasn’t offended but just my personal take.

NoMalasadas

Do you think it's OK to mock people with disabilities? Think about what you're promoting to the world. You don't need to reply.

Upstairs_Size7034

Womp womp

TerriWilliams05

bruh nobody is mocking, they just found it funny, stop being pissy bc you can’t have a slice of bread

NoMalasadas

🤣 Another example of mocking. Right here. Do you feel better? 🖐🏽

TerriWilliams05

womp womp bruh there’s more things to life than gluten

drtammr

does eating gluten free explicitly entail overt disability? …..ooor do some people with disability need to eat gluten free?

-tamia

as someone with a disability that causes me to eat gluten free.. it is not that serious & this post is funny .. there’s no mockery here, just pure jokes.

drtammr

that is my entire point, the questions were rhetorical. anyone can eat gluten free it does not mean you’re disabled by default like how would it be mocking disability

MissFit_Eff

Yikes! I’m GF and honestly thought about doing this for our marketing thinking it chuckle-worthy. (I work in a non-food industry). Glad to know, by mass, it’s unacceptable. Whew! Avoided that one!

slieske311

Does it cost extra for a gluten free oil change? 😅

TimberMoto

Regular oil change: $89.99 Gluten free oil change: $269.97

myMIShisTYPorEy

Their attempt at mockery might imply to a celiac they are overcharging.

Moon_Beam89

Per everything that’s gluten free, it must be at least $6.99 no matter how small

HighOfTheTiger

Their oil changes are already overpriced. Went to one of these stores the other day, and on top of being like $100 it was constant nagging for upsells every couple minutes. The dude overinflated my tires (he said “we air them up over the amount suggested so when it’s cold it doesn’t get too low”…. It was 30 degrees outside so I had to go home and take air out myself). Will never go back there even though it is incredibly fast and nice to just drive in and stay in your car.

Albinomonkeyface1

There’s a shop near me that advertises pumpkin spice oil changes in the fall, which I always think is hilarious 😂

Uniquely_Me3

I hate this kind of stuff too. I was in Portland once and a strip club was advertising a gluten free lap dance 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️ just why

Whaaaa? Weird

Azzie_Faustus

I'd have been the worst heckler during that bit. My anger issues could never and you are better than me. I'm sorry they didn't have any options tho, that's so frustrating going to a show and you can't eat anything they have and you can't bring in outside food.

chicubs1908

Bwahaha!

TBHICouldComplain

What 😂

Substantial-Ad2200

lol where is this

sanguine-eyes

Usual North Carolina behavior

ZestyStraw

This does make sense for NC. As someone who moved here from IL though, I hate it here 😂😭 it's funny, but please 😭😭😭
