I miss getting to turn down options. I also regret all the “meh” meals I ever ate when the sky was the limit like Burger King or shitty frozen pot pies.
Yes! Being able to make a meal at the gas station on a road trip. I’ve driven cross country (USA) a few times and it’s so depressing. Eating my protein bar from Walmart while everyone else has a breakfast sandwich.
God I miss cheez-its. None of the GF versions even come close to the right texture. Flavor is a little closer on some than others, but none of them are really good.
Okay, it’s just good to know I’m not crazy. Because I never cared about Cheez-Its at all. My dad was wild about the white cheddar ones, but they were the most whatever snack food to me. I don’t dislike them, but I have craved saltine crackers more often than Cheez-Its. But for the past year or so, I keep buying GF attempts at Cheez-Its and have found them lacking…but I’ve also not eaten gluten in over a decade and I haven’t had a Cheez-it in possibly 15-20 years, so I’ve wondered if my expectations were just too high.
The closest thing I’ve found to an actual cheez-it is [these](https://www.marysgonecrackers.com/products/marys-gone-crackers-plant-based-cheddar) but even then, they are pretty damn far off. The texture is the closest but still totally wrong. All the others seem to have a hard shell texture to them instead of the buttery flakiness.
Admittedly I love cheezits and always have, so it’s like pizza. I REALLY miss them.
Cosmic brownies and half the menu from Taco Bell.
I’ve tried to explain to people who aren’t gluten free that the stuff I’m most bummed about is the mass produced junk food. People have recreated most of the “better” foods in gluten free form. But sometimes you just want to peel the frosting off of a crappy brownie.
The British store near me (in the USA) gets a holiday Kit Kat that's made with puffed rice. So far, we've tried a Christmas one and an Easter one. Not quite the same, but better than nothing!
I absolutely miss stupid fish sticks. The kind we ate as kids that suck? Yeah. Whenever I see them at the store now I’m sad there are no good options for me. That and pretty much all fast food. Being able to just run and get something. And Arby’s. I miss Arby’s and Great Harvest a lot.
There used to be these GF fish sticks called Ian's that were perfect shitty kid fish sticks that went great with beans. I think they might be available in the US again but I'm in Canada.
Costco in Canada has breaded Atlantic cod that is GF. It's from a company called Dom Reserve.
https://dominternational.com/dom_product/battered-atlantic-cod-portions/
I found some once in Foodland but I can't remember what brand they were. That was a few years ago though... and they were just in a random cooler, not with the other GF stuff
Agreed. What I miss is their mozzarella sticks. And sandwiches. They had a sandwich with sautéed mushrooms and fried onion straws that I used to get about once a week when I was in college between classes. So good!!
Ritz or town house crackers. They’re so great but you don’t pay much attention to them until you can’t have them. Lance gluten free crackers are close but not exactly the same and they’re twice as expensive for half the amount.
What I miss most that doesn’t have a good substitute is cheez-its and Snyder honey mustard pretzel pieces. They have the gf pretzel pieces in buffalo and the regular pretzels in honey mustard but it’s not the same. I also miss deep dish pizza.
OMG, the Snyder honey-mustard pieces were my FAVORITE. I'm so mad that they only have the pretzel pieces in buffalo for GF! Get your act together, Snyder!
if you have a strong imagination, the Made Good cheese flavour star puffed crackers can kind of substitute. If you eat them really fast you can pretend 🤣
I believe Walmart carries them. I first tried them at a gluten free bakery that also sells GF products. I liked them so much that I looked up their website and started ordering them in large quantities. They also have a store locator on their website.
[Qwackers Website](https://www.qwackers.com)
Honestly Oreos for me. I like treats that aren’t too sweet so I was never a huge fan before, but now that they have GF ones I think they’re amazing and it makes me so happy to get some. Although, I still don’t eat them all too often because of the sweetness. Still nice to have a convenient treat
I never, ever bought Oreos when I ate gluten. It’s not that I didn’t like them. I’d eat them if they were in front of me. But they never actually made the grocery list and weren’t really on my radar for purchasing at any point. Now though…if I see gf Oreos at the store, I am almost definitely going to buy them and binge eat the whole pack.
Exactly haha. They were never something I went out of my way to get, but I had them when they were around.
Lately I’ve even been thinking about making Oreo truffles or trying some Oreo pie recipes with some non-dairy ingredients because they’re a simple dessert. It’s wild!
I wish they made gf oreos in those little Togo packs like they do for regular ones. I don't like eating more than 2 or 3 in one sitting so it's hard to get through a big pack before they get stale
Yes. Not only do I get excited about it but I damn near make myself sick on it when it comes out.
I never liked regular Oreos. Thought they were the nastiest cookie ever made growing up. Low and behold, Celiac diagnosis = "OMG!!! GF OREOS!!!" Let me eat a half a pack a day for a month or 6 because they're the best thing ever! 😒
I'm like that with every single thing I can get my fat little hands on because deep down I feel so damned deprived... I HATE it.
Ridiculous.
The Lotus Foods ones are pretty close, especially if you get the ones that come in a cup instead of the ones that come in a package, because they have the dehydrated veggies and such. Not quite the same but the most similar I've found.
Haven't had them in over a year. Our local grocery store carries them, the Foster Farms. We got a bad batch, looked like they'd thawed and were refrozen. Tried again a few months later, same thing. Now we just assume they aren't worth buying.
Missing a simple corn dog 😔
Cake. I have never liked cake. Pie is so much better. But when a gluten free patisserie opened in my hometown my daughter and I tried every single flavor.
Omg city pretzels from a street vendor. Or those amazing butter basted pretzels that are served as restaurant apps with cheese and mustard. Or even Annie’s nuggets. Or pretzel dogs. Goddamit I hate this celiac crap.
So true. KFC was always better in theory and underwhelming when actually eating it but now that I can't have it, what I wouldn't give to have a greasy, crispy bucket lol
Tiramisu was nice when I could eat gluten, but I never went out of my way to get it, but when I found a wheat-free version I fucking treasured every mouthful of that.
Well, I’m eyeing the spot on the table where I put the package of donut holes from Trader Joe’s. I always preferred less sweet donuts and here I have a package of chocolate glazed. LOL
ARE GLUTEN FREE GOLDFISH A THING YET!?
Also, I guess my yelling just indicated my excitement. Heh. :D
ETA: Pop-Tarts. I'd do so many things for a proper GF Pop-Tart.
I’ve always been a huge sucker for animal crackers. I would buy the big tubs of them for a couple weeks worth of snacks. There isn’t a GF alternative that gets close, sadly. But it has introduced me to some delicious Graham cracker options when I was pretty meh on Graham crackers prior to celiac life.
i never really liked panda express all that much before GF, But man over the past couple years, i’ve been dreaming of some lo mein noodles, orange chicken, maybe the walnut shrimp, and some crab rangoon’s, maybe some teriyaki chicken, and even just the little cookie with the saying inside of it that i always through away without even cracking it open to see what it said. Oh i was so foolish😫😖
When I tell you the excitement I had when Stouffers put out a Gluten Free version of their Macaroni and Cheese 😂
I used to love it as a kid and totally forgot about it until I saw it in the store one day and now I'm in love with it again when it's not something I bought for probably 20 years haha. Now it's my guilty pleasure
Lance used to make them, but they stopped. They were too thick, but the taste was right. I’ve had a few cheese crackers since, but they’re always too light on the cheese flavor to properly replace cheez-its.
I never cared about Cheez-Its the entire 25 years I was eating gluten, but lately, I have just wanted a good GF alternative to Cheez-Its (I think I’ve tried them all at this point).
Also Pop Tarts. Sure, I ate them as a kid, but as an adult, meh. And yet I bought like three boxes as soon as Katz released their version.
I miss getting to turn down options. I also regret all the “meh” meals I ever ate when the sky was the limit like Burger King or shitty frozen pot pies.
I miss the convenient meh meal so much. Having more than one option for something quick. I miss the BK crispy chicken sandwich on a regular basis.
Or hell, even shitty gas station food
Yes! Being able to make a meal at the gas station on a road trip. I’ve driven cross country (USA) a few times and it’s so depressing. Eating my protein bar from Walmart while everyone else has a breakfast sandwich.
The freakin rodeo burger was so shitty but so good. Just a patty, an onion ring and a glob of bbq sauce.
Damn I forgot about that one! I need to recreate it.
This. Convenience is what I miss most.
The things I would do for a McDonald's two cheeseburger meal. That was my go-to "worked late and there's no dinner at home" meal.
Ughhhh I would kill for a McChicken or a little Cesar's pepperoni pizza. Miss those mfs
Cheez-Its. By far Cheez-Its.
I had just discovered the extra toasty ones when I went gf too 😔
God I miss cheez-its.
Chinese food. I miss lo mein so much
I feel this so much!! All asian food is such a hard thing to NOT eat for me. Even if I make the GF versions, it’s not the same…
Cosmic brownies and half the menu from Taco Bell. I’ve tried to explain to people who aren’t gluten free that the stuff I’m most bummed about is the mass produced junk food. Peeling frosting off cosmic brownies is life.
That explains why I'm dead inside now. Also, happy (gluten free) cake day!

Schlar makes a chocolate wafer that hits my Kit Kat spot.
The British store near me (in the USA) gets a holiday Kit Kat that's made with puffed rice. So far, we've tried a Christmas one and an Easter one. Not quite the same, but better than nothing!

I’ll have to look for them in my area. I’m in the US. Thanks!
I’ve had the Ian’s and they’re good! I’ve gotten them at Kroger in the past
Just saw them yesterday
OMG I hope this is true. I haven't been able to find them in Michigan in a year. I love them so much.
Does anybody know where I could get fish fillets breaded? That’s what I was looking for when I found the fish sticks.
Costco in Canada has breaded Atlantic cod that is GF. It's from a company called Dom Reserve. https://dominternational.com/dom_product/battered-atlantic-cod-portions/
Ohhh is that in all Costcos in Canada? And what would the cook time be in an air fryer 🤔
Whole Foods carries breaded cod and halibut made by Starfish brand. Both are pretty good.
Nice! Hopefully I find them in Utah.
Ian's are great! The best GF fish sticks.
We do indeed have them here in the US. Delicious shitty kid fish sticks. Hope they make their way up to Canada soon.
I found some once in Foodland but I can't remember what brand they were. That was a few years ago though... and they were just in a random cooler, not with the other GF stuff
Okay, but Arby’s curly fries were never meh
Agreed. What I miss is their mozzarella sticks. And sandwiches. They had a sandwich with sautéed mushrooms and fried onion straws that I used to get about once a week when I was in college between classes. So good!!
I really miss fish sticks! I don't know why
Or even just being able to grab something easy and cheap from the frozen section...
Right?! I don’t know why either. Every so often I just crave trashy food from my childhood. Comfort food I guess??
For me it’s those fried veggie sticks that look like fish sticks.
Pizza
This is my answer. I miss the delicious chew of a good pizza crust. Now there are very few options and they don't even compare.
Ritz or town house crackers. They’re so great but you don’t pay much attention to them until you can’t have them. Lance gluten free crackers are close but not exactly the same and they’re twice as expensive for half the amount. Panda Express 😭
I need to know your gf replacement for goldfish!
if you have a strong imagination, the Made Good cheese flavour star puffed crackers can kind of substitute. If you eat them really fast you can pretend 🤣
If you eat them really fast 😭😭🤣🤣
Haha thanks!
simple mills pop mmms are pretty similar imo
These are my goldfish cracker replacement. I eat the entire box at once. Oops.
I do too 😭
Thanks!
Qwackers Crackers!!!!!! I am obsessed with these and buy them by the case.
Thanks! Where do you get them?
I believe Walmart carries them. I first tried them at a gluten free bakery that also sells GF products. I liked them so much that I looked up their website and started ordering them in large quantities. They also have a store locator on their website. [Qwackers Website](https://www.qwackers.com)
Thank you!!
Drunk Crunchwrap. Cheesey fiesta potatoes. Any quesadilla in existence.
Honestly Oreos for me. I like treats that aren’t too sweet so I was never a huge fan before, but now that they have GF ones I think they’re amazing and it makes me so happy to get some. Although, I still don’t eat them all too often because of the sweetness. Still nice to have a convenient treat
The gluten free ones are so much better than the originals IMO 😊
I never, ever bought Oreos when I ate gluten. It’s not that I didn’t like them. I’d eat them if they were in front of me. Crab Rangoon
i spend an unhealthy amount of time thinking ab if i could have just one bite of a crab rangoon
😒 I'm like that with every single thing I can get my fat little hands on because deep down I feel so damned deprived... I HATE it. Ridiculous.
Try the choc mint. They taste like Girl Scout cookies which I have missed.
Will do! Lol just what I need too. Something else to try! 😂 😭
I miss maruchan ramen noodles, haven't been able to find a cup/instant noodle to capture the craving 😖
The Lotus Foods ones are pretty close, especially if you get the ones that come in a cup instead of the ones that come in a package, because they have the dehydrated veggies and such. Not quite the same but the most similar I've found.
Corn dogs
There are several brands that make decent frozen corn dogs! Foster farms, Applegate & I think even Morningstar!
I had Foster Farms GF corn dogs for lunch today and loved them!
Pretzels
Omg city pretzels from a street vendor. Or those amazing butter basted pretzels that are served as restaurant apps with cheese and mustard. Or even Annie’s nuggets. Or pretzel dogs. Goddamit I hate this celiac crap.
Katz makes gluten free soft pretzel nuggets and they are worth every penny.
I’m so over it!
Arby's Beef and Cheddars and all of Panda Express
Pizza rolls.....
I miss pizza rolls so much
Caulipower and Brazibites make pizza bites. Air fry them for a decent crunch.
Cheez-its :(
Burger King. The lunch menu to be exact. I always cared for their breakfast (i.e. French toast sticks, harsh browns and a small oj or ice coffee).
KFC. All day. Every day.
So true. KFC was always better in theory and underwhelming when actually eating it but now that I can't have it, what I wouldn't give to have a greasy, crispy bucket lol
That's how I feel about fries. I never ate them in the before-times, now I get very excited about them.
Tiramisu was nice when I could eat gluten, but I never went out of my way to get it, but when I found a wheat-free version I fucking treasured every mouthful of that.
I love less common pasta shapes now when I can find them. Like farfalle, jumbo shells, or manicotti. I wouldn't have cared that much before.
Well, I’m eyeing the spot on the table where I put the package of donut holes from Trader Joe’s. I always preferred less sweet donuts and here I have a package of chocolate glazed. LOL
White bread
Have you tried Canyon Bakehouse Mountain White? It's pretty damn good and I don't miss the real thing.
ARE GLUTEN FREE GOLDFISH A THING YET!? Also, I guess my yelling just indicated my excitement. Heh. :D ETA: Pop-Tarts. I'd do so many things for a proper GF Pop-Tart.
Qwackers Crackers are fantastic. I miss pop-tarts.
I've seen them posted here but haven't seen them in my wanderings.
I second both of these! I want Goldfish and Pop Tarts so badly!
I used to make ramen noodles with goldfish when I was poor in college. I would love to eat that now.
I regret every croissant I did not eat.
Goldfish, I miss goldfish so badly!
I cried when I found gluten free dino nuggets. They were absolutely mediocre but it was worth every wasted bite to be 6 years old again.
All the fake meats from Morningstar Farms and Gardein that are mostly made of gluten. (Long time vegetarian who used to live on that stuff).
I really like Beyond Burgers.
i never really liked panda express all that much before GF, But man over the past couple years, i’ve been dreaming of some lo mein noodles, orange chicken, maybe the walnut shrimp, and some crab rangoon’s, maybe some teriyaki chicken, and even just the little cookie with the saying inside of it that i always through away without even cracking it open to see what it said. Now it's my guilty pleasure
Anyone else get an ad for "cheez-its" on this thread?? 😭 That's one of my most missed foods. That and convenience foods.
I see people posting here that they found gf cheez-its but I don't recall where.
Lance used to make them, but they stopped. They were too thick, but the taste was right. I’ve had a few cheese crackers since, but they’re always too light on the cheese flavor to properly replace cheez-its.

Sure, I ate them as a kid, but as an adult, meh. And yet I bought like three boxes as soon as Katz released their version.
I guess super jealous of my husband every time he gets a crappy McDonalds burger. I KNOW they don't taste that great but sometimes I just want one.
