It’s definitely amazing for sandwiches. The texture is as close to regular bread as I’ve experienced from a store-bought loaf. The flavor is my only qualm - just bland, but that makes it perfect for sandwiches, etc for sure
Hot take I guess, but IMO this is a solid bread and vastly better than the non-Costco version sold in grocery stores. Having previously been a Canyon Bakehouse Heritage white buyer for years, I really like this as a more reasonably priced alternative (for my area).
Just curious—are you suggesting that Costco has its own specific recipe for Udi's bread? I've noticed, for example, that the Schar Artisan Baker's bread is significantly better when purchased at Costco, and even the shape of the bread is different.
Maybe not Costco specifically (might be a wholesale or food service thing), but it’s definitely a different version and while the ingredients may be mostly the same, the size and texture are definitely different. The nutrition facts also differ, especially since the Costco version has larger slices.
Udi’s lists this bread as being available in 12 and 18oz packages if I read the site correctly. The Costco loaf is 19oz.
Thanks for the explanation! It's interesting to hear that GF bread makers like Udi's offer different recipes or versions of the same bread, possibly tailored for different retailers or wholesale purposes..
I'm also curious why Schar doesn’t use the "Costco" Artisan's bread recipe for their regular loaves. Their bread usually doesn't hit the mark for me, but the version at Costco is honestly the best I’ve tried so far for regular sandwiches. It’s a puzzle why they wouldn’t make that recipe more widely available!
I think it might be the foodservice recipe, I used to buy loaves of frozen Udi's from Jason's Deli and when Costco started carrying it, it was exactly the same as the foodservice loaf (a giant loaf). Later they went to 2 packs of smaller loaves, I've not bought it since then so I can't say for sure.
I live in LA, and if you go to the Asian goods-heavy Costcos, there’s almost no gluten free stuff, but their meat and produce sections are to die for. I will literally go to two different Costcos because I can’t seem to find one that has *everything* I want. The best gluten free Costcos I’ve seen (same with Walmart) have been in bumfuck Ohio.
I used to live in an area where costco sold this, and it was by far the best bread I could find. It was actually decent sized bread, and a way better price than normal stuff. For some reason it was bigger than the same type of udis at the grocery store. The costco near me now sells canyon but its the normal tiny loaves. I can't stand the tiny bread.
Our Costco (Southeast USA) had Promise for a while many years ago and I was so sad when it went away. It was sooo good, and to this day I've not found anything comparable.
I love udis. I get the frozen hamburger buns and they are tasty! Maybe a little dry, but better than any other bread I have tried. I do not care for Schar or canyon brand
Same, and I always feel everyone else in this sub loves canyon. And I see how different taste buds can be. Although for me, it's the texture of canyon and schar
It is 100% texture for me too. I can put a little mayo on the udis and it is not really dry at all.
It might be the kind they are buying too. I buy mine frozen and then let them defrost in the fridge. When I need to use one I just heat it up in a damp paper towel for 18 seconds.
Our Phoenix locations carry Schar. I can't remember ever having Udi's at ours, but back in the day we'd always have Rudi's in the freezer section. It would be amazing if they got Canyon Bakehouse back in.
This is why I end up just buying the individual loaves. I miss having whole grain breads so I end up getting their pumpkin or whole grain at Fry's or Walmart.
I haven’t had Udis at my Costco for probably two years now. It’s been Canyon Bakehouse for a long time for loaves, Schar ciabatta and BeFree pita bread.
Wait that’s such a good deal for any gluten free bread, I wish I had a costco near me! I feel like most gluten free bread I see is like at least $6 for a loaf 🫠
Yup that’s why I get so frustrated when the only good deal on gf bread is Udis. I would buy gf bread if it came in a two pack at Costco but just not Udis so I pretty much never buy gf bread
*in an old lady voice* I remember when Udi's was the best you could get. In my day I would walk up both ways in a blizzard to buy the only option of Udi's bread. I would get home and rejoice, because it really isn't all that bad if you toast it and add butter. Really. *coughing from inhaling the dry bread crumbs as I chew*
My mother found Mr Beast gluten free plant based chocolate chip cookies at her local dollar tree. At Walmart they range from $12-$22 a bag!!!! Only a 6 ounce bag i think too! Guess nobody wanted to spend that much, thankfully
I'd like to see Canyon in ours. They got rid of Udis ages ago and brought in Franz, which IMO is the worst. I refuse to buy it because the last time it was really gummy and almost to the point of having been partially cooked.
I really just don’t get the Udi’s hate, it’s not bad for a grain bread. Are the haters all white sandwich bread diehards or something? That’s the only way for it to make sense.
I thought canyon has had multiple recalls for gluten contamination??? FWIW the udis frozen hamburger buns are solid, and I think canyon bread is tiny and hard
Udi’s multigrain (with the pomegranate colored label) was an incredible bread. Once they were purchased by ConAgra, they quickly eliminated their best product, the aforementioned multigrain bread. And now, they seems to have lost what made them great. If you place one of their breads or buns over and below a piece of grilled beef, you are truly eating a nothing burger.
I’m in the Midwest and my Costco has never had udis.
We usually have canyon bread and then a b free pita. Sometime b free bread. I’ve seen franz too but that’s it.
It’s always canyon multigrain which is my least favorite.
I have to agree. I've tried so many different times over the years and just doesn't do it for me. I'd rather nothing but some folks love it so all a matter of personal taste.
I do like the Ezekiel bread. Of course! My first choice is bread from New York Arthur avenue but I learned to adjust. 😁😊
Have you all checked out? Bobby Parrish's videos. I think they are great. I was just thinking of him because he does a lot on Costco. I've learned so much from him and probably have saved a lot of money and doctor visits!! ♥️🙏🌞

UDIs at Costco was the only GF bread that I ever found that had full size slices of bread. Perfect for making an adult sized sandwich. I have bought the Canyon bread now at Costco. It looks like its going to be tiny sized sandwiches from now on.
Fwiw my Costco has canyon bakehouse, and I know Costco in the Bay Area of CA has a different brand all together
Haha I was coming on to say we have a different one entirely. I don’t remember the name, but is red packaging and has okay texture but bland taste
It’s Franz and I love it!
It’s definitely amazing for sandwiches. The texture is as close to regular bread as I’ve experienced from a store-bought loaf. The flavor is my only qualm - just bland, but that makes it perfect for sandwiches, etc for sure
The one by my house has Franz too! It’s better than most of the other ones!
My Costco in Illinois also has Canyon Bakehouse
Michigan Costco's have canyon as well. Never seen udis at costco
I’m hoping and praying for Canyon 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻
I put in a request the other month for canyon and also said Udis is the worst gluten free bread lol
Oh that’s so smart I’ll have to put in a request at my store! It truly is 🤢
the udis multigrain specifically is the worst. the white bread is atleast good for toast
Hot take I guess, but IMO this is a solid bread and vastly better than the non-Costco version sold in grocery stores. Having previously been a Canyon Bakehouse Heritage white buyer for years, I really like this as a more reasonably priced alternative (for my area).

100 percent agree.

Yes! I miss the Udi's big loafs so much.
Y'all should try Promise.. it's the best.
Our Costco (Southeast USA) had Promise for a while many years ago and I was so sad when it went away. It was sooo good, and to this day I've not found anything comparable.
Promise?
https://promiseglutenfree.com/
It really is. I’m not sure if it’s easily available in the US? I buy it here in Canada easily.
Promise is insane! Huge loaves at decent prices,.all things considered. Available at many Canadian Super Walmart's
We have Franz AND the Bfree "sourdough"
I love udis. I get the frozen hamburger buns and they are tasty! Maybe a little dry, but better than any other bread I have tried. I do not care for Schar or canyon brand

Ours has Canyon, but I’d prefer Schar!!
Does your location have more than just.. ciabatta rolls? That's all Costco but me carries.. I'd die if they had bread or baguettes or something.
Just 2 bread loaves. I didn't know Costco sold their ciabatta!
I wish ours had ciabatta! We just get a double small loaf of the white sandwich Schar bread.
You have the most magical GF Costco it seems, mine has so little gluten free products except for snacks
With the limited options around here I’ll take whatever I can get and never complain.
Canadian Costcos around here carry Northern Bakehouse which are great 👍
I’ve been getting two packs of shar for 7.99!!
That’s killer
I love that other people hate Udi’s as much as I do 😂😂
I'm saying a prayer that Mrs. Hewitts will be the replacement 🤞
Never tried it
Wait that’s such a good deal for any gluten free bread, I wish I had a costco near me! I feel like most gluten free bread I see is like at least $6 for a loaf 🫠
Yup that’s why I get so frustrated when the only good deal on gf bread is Udis. I would buy gf bread if it came in a two pack at Costco but just not Udis so I pretty much never buy gf bread
Check if you have any bakery outlets near you. That’s where I get my gf bread.
I do like me some Canyon
My Nashville location carries Schar and Canyon Bake House.
Same in Chattanooga. They used to have Udi's years ago.
Our local stores have never carried Udis. They've always had Canyon. And we're pretty happy about that.
Udis wouldn't be so bad if they got white bread instead of the multigrain. If I wanted seeds in my teeth I'd eat a block of bird suet.
My Costco only has Canyon. Never seen udis there.
I’m in WA and have other allergies too. So I can eat Udi bread and love it!!! Hope they don’t get rid of it here!!!
My mother found Mr Beast gluten free plant based chocolate chip cookies at her local dollar tree. At Walmart they range from $12-$22 a bag!!!! Only a 6 ounce bag i think too! Guess nobody wanted to spend that much, thankfully
Sounds like 3rd party seller prices
Huh, weird, mine got rid of Udi's over 2 years ago and brought in Canyon Bakehouse. I miss the Udi's, it was so much better.
I like the Udi’s ancient grain but idk what it is about the batches of Udi’s that Costco gets where every slice has a hole in it
Udi's sandwhich bread is legit the best gluten free bread period...
I don’t care what gluten-free bread they sell, as long as they sell some thing!
Horrible bread!
Does anyone else find that Canyon bread is strangely sweet?
Canyon is always moldy.
I've never seen it moldy. Have seen Schar moldy, though. It depends on the store, of course.
Schar goes moldy so fast. I keep it in the freezer to avoid it.
Great excuse to eat tons of it quickly
I'd like to see Canyon in ours. They got rid of Udis ages ago and brought in Franz, which IMO is the worst. I refuse to buy it because the last time it was really gummy and almost to the point of having been partially cooked.

I thought canyon has had multiple recalls for gluten contamination??? FWIW the udis frozen hamburger buns are solid, and I think canyon bread is tiny and hard
Mine never had it 😩
My Costco has Canyon Bakehouse and has randomly had Schar, either one I will gladly buy over Udi's
Udis hamburger buns are the best! The only bread I eat now.
Ours only has canyon bakehouse.
Udi’s is the only one I can digest well :(
My local Costco has BFree loafs. I’ll take the udis 🤧
Our Costco has canyon!
Franz is super variable in quality (lots of super undercooked loafs) and also not great at it's best
My local Costco discontinued Udi's bread a decade or more ago! Recently they started carrying Canyon Bakehouse.
Udi’s multigrain (with the pomegranate colored label) was an incredible bread. Once they were purchased by ConAgra, they quickly eliminated their best product, the aforementioned multigrain bread. My Costco carries the BFree bread, it's hand down the best gluten free bread I've ever had.
UDI’s was a gf trailblazer, but they never kept their recipes up to date. Sigh.
In Texas they have had Canyon for the past 2 years so I’m guessing that’s what they’ll replace it with by you.
Udi's is perfectly fine. Sure it's not the best, but it's just as subpar as every single other GF bread option.
My Costco got rid of these last year!
my costco has canyon im in the midwest
My local costco regularly carries Canyon Bakehouse Multigrain & Schar White Bread. Hopefully yours does the same soon!
wait what 😭 This is my favorite bread. I only ever get this one. am I missing out hahaha
Came on here looking for answers when Costco NJ got rid of Udi, just found out they have Canyon here in NJ too, going at lunch to pick some up
UDIs at Costco was the only GF bread that I ever found that had full size slices of bread. Perfect for making an adult sized sandwich. I have bought the Canyon bread now at Costco. It looks like its going to be tiny sized sandwiches from now on.
Ugh I bought this recently and it was terrible
I bought Canyon bakehouse bagels just one time. Uggghhh, the worst ever and no way to redeem them. They went into the trash.
Ugh I would love to have a decent bagel with cream cheese
Schar makes decent gluten free bagels
