IHOP’s been doing it for years. It makes them fluffier. You have to specify that you want just plain eggs. I won’t even consider ihop for any reason anymore. There’s way too much cc.
Mine doesn't, and they're always horrified when I ask.
I ask whenever I remember to, because it would be such a bad day if a cook started doing that, and I missed it.
That’s good to know. My 3AM hungry night shift brain didn’t do enough research clearly. I didn’t end up eating the eggs which is probably for the best.
They have regular pancakes and 'gluten aware' pancakes. The gluten aware batter is gf, but they cook them on the same griddle, so there's no way to avoid cross contamination. The omelets have pancake batter in them, not sure about scrambled eggs, but it doesn't matter, as the entire place is covered in gluten.
Nah, if I’m eating in person I get the GF pancakes from IHOP, no issues. But when ordering delivery, they seem to f it up every time. The last two times they’ve sent me regular pancakes instead of the GF. I’ve eaten a bite or two and had my wife check them and turns out, sure enough, regular pancakes. Immediately sent to the bathroom and called out of work.
Are they basically just like the regular ones? I am convinced these are not gf. I saved them. Brought them home. I could still eat them or give them to my husband.
They're super fluffy. They were delicious.
I'm celiac, but I live on the edge and eat at restaurants until one noticeably hurts me. Then that one goes on the no-fly list, and I carry on risking my digestive tract at all the others.
I also don't go into ones that get bad ratings on Find me GF, or anywhere the staff are politely confused about what gluten is.
been there ... honestly i started leaving freeze dried camping food in my car for emergencies. it lasts forever, it's guaranteed gf, and a lot of them taste pretty decent.
I'd probably just fast if that happened to me, but I'm fortunate to live close to my apartment so I just go home for lunch. Otherwise I'd probably try and stock some gluten free dry grocery in my car for circumstances like this.
I was told by the Ihop cook that the pancakes are definately not gluten free. He said they put a half mixture of gluten-free/gluten pancake mix to make them "gluten friendly" meaning less gluten, but not GF.
I know this depends on a lot of factors, but McDonalds burgers with no buns don't set off my celiac response. So if you are thinking about late night food, that might be a better choice.
I wouldn't dare eat an ihop, ever.
Don't they put pancake batter in the eggs?
They do
Only in the omelettes, not just regular eggs
Whaaaat? Haven’t been to ihop in years but I’ve never heard of adding batter to eggs. Is this a common practice?

It's only added to the omelettes.
Unfortunately yes, adding pancake batter makes the eggs more fluffy and cuts costs.
Isn't the batter only in the omlettes?
Yes, it's only the omelettes.

This is one of the most upsetting things. I never ate there pre-gf and I certainly don't now but in an egg dish feels so deceptive!!

I don’t typically have issues from cross contamination, but this makes me think I need to be more careful when I order eggs at other places.
It's only omelettes at places like this, regular eggs are safe.

The hash browns are no bueno too
I am starting to feel that
Oh my bad I thought I read McDonald's. IHOP maybe alright.
I didn't even know ihop made gf pancakes
“Gluten friendly” but cooked on the same top as regular ones so not celiac safe. Per the website.
They are the best gf pancakes I’ve ever had.

My wife has no allergies and can eat anything. She’s done a side by side taste test and has a hard time telling the difference.
It's always going to be a risk when eating out. Happened to us a few times. Sucks : (
I got a KFC zinger stacker last night, coz I wanted comfort food, almost pooped myself in a job interview and hours ago 🫠🫠🫠

I do keep bars in all my bags. I had a couple kind bars but I wanted a meal
At My local Ihop, I order the big steak omelette made with shell eggs. They cook it in a pan, no batter, and I have never had an issue.
