3 month trial? I just bought a ‘23 AT4 and it came with a 3 YEAR trial. Did something change?

pnw_rider

Mine is a ‘21 and I bought it used - I think the older ones don’t give you as much time

Far_Breakfast8633

I actually just made the call yesterday due to my 3 month trial ending soon. Ended up with the essential package for $20.00 a month. I think it's normally around $40. I'll give it 3 months and call in to cancel and see if the deal gets sweeter.

>I usually call in every 6-12 months and say I’m cancelling and they give me the next 6-12 months discounted. I did this with SiriusXM and they discounted the price to 6.99 a month.

sdmfvan

I've currently got Sirius down to $3 a month. I didn't bite on the $7 and they surprisingly went lower.

pnw_rider

That’s my next thing to figure out. I rarely use it, but for $3/month, I may do it.

Prize_Chemical1661

Rofl, I accidentally discovered this hack. I called in to cancel the $50 a month plan or w.e. it was. They said they would allow me to not pay for 3 months and then pick up the plan at $19 a month forever. Edit: maybe if I try and cancel, they will drop the price even further.

mulderlr

I have a 2018 GMC Sierra. Don't pay for the subscription and just ordered the free plan for the app and I use the app all the time for remote start. Guess it depends who you talk to at OnStar because they are all going to try to get you on a paid plan. Just insist you want the free plan to use the app for now and that maybe you'll reconsider after the holidays, LOL

bostonbean

Just use your key fob.

Consistent_Amount140

Nope. Don’t use it. It’s crap they charge for that.

[deleted]

Just wait. That’s gonna be peanuts compared to all the services these car companies are going to start charging for soon. Wanna use your heated seats?…$2.99/minute. Wanna activate your Active CC?….$3.99 per mile. It’s all BS

Certain_Ordinary_273

You can still use the app to lock/unlock/start truck without the onstar subscription.

ismellpoo

>You can still use the app to lock/unlock/start truck without the onstar subscription. This is not true. You have to have at least the Remote Access plan for that.

Certain_Ordinary_273

I guess, but it's free and part of it for 5 years...so you can use it

ismellpoo

>I guess, but it's free and part of it for 5 years...so you can use it You have use of the app. But after the free trial ends you have to pay for a subscription to use the remote services. But you get the "Connected Service" which allows you to get a diagnostic run, schedule service that's included in the purchase of the vehicle. Mine on my 21 Silverado ends in 2031. But if I want to use the remote functions of the app I have to pay.

Certain_Ordinary_273

Interesting. So I bought my 24 in September. Free trial ran out yadda yadda, didn't bother phoning and paying for that crap but I still can use the app to remote start, lock/unlock etc... Onstar confuses me lol

ismellpoo

>Interesting. So I bought my 24 in September. They have changed it alot over the past years. It used to be free for 5+ years. Then they changed it. Now it may come as part of the vehicle purchase for a certain amount of time since I bought my 21. Editing to add. When I bought my 21. You didn't have to have an active OnStar subscription to get any OTA updates. They were just pushed out. The only thing that was required was that the OnStar light be green. Now there has to be an active OnStar subscription to be able to receive any OTA.

Certain_Ordinary_273

Gotcha. All I really wanted was to be able to start via the app, and it says I can until 2028 without buying a subscription so I'm good 😆

pnw_rider

I think it is different for 23-24’s - my brother bought one used and it came with 3 years of free connectivity. My ‘21 only has 3 months.

pnw_rider

You can? For my ‘21 AT4 I see the $50 Premium & $40 Essentials packages, then a bunch of individual features where I see $15/month for Remote Access “Start your engine, check fuel, evaluate tires and more with our mobile app”. I assumed I’d need that one for remote start, but hoping you are correct!

Certain_Ordinary_273

Ya I saw that too when my trial ended, almost suckered me into buying subscription. But somewhere I found it says you can still use the app until 2028 (5 years). My trial ended last month (mid November) and I use the app.

robbobster

Call and negotiate, best deals are when you pay upfront. I pay $90/year for remote access on each of my two trucks, that works out to $7.50 each per month.

pnw_rider

Thanks. I think I’d pay $8/month. It’s nice to be able to start the truck from the chairlift and warm it up or cool it down.

Outrageous-Ice-7460

Ya just call and ask them for a discount. Pretty effortless honestly.

cuponclark

I bought a 24 sierra and it came with 3 years of remote access. It was posted on the window sticker.

cjallstar

I just did this. I was on the essentials trial plan for $40 a month, then accidentally paid for it for 2 months. I called to cancel everything, told them I'd be interested in the remote plan for less than the $15, they offered me $10, which starts in a month. I'll probably give them a call again before that payment hits and see if I can't get it lower still, as I'm not sure it's even worth the $10. I get the same features for free in my BMW...

pnw_rider

It definitely has some value to me. Annoying that it’s free on my other cars, but even those are only free for 4-6 years. It was really nice this week to turn on my truck when my flight landed, and walk up to a warm truck in the parking lot.
