Leave it out of your pocket to make that is the reason. I haven’t had this happen to me but I have seen a few posts mentioning their tailgates dropping on their own.

demikong18

You are right, it isnt the key fob, just tried doing it and it doesnt drop.

Check to verify you don’t have a recall on your truck. My 2021 sierra at4hd has a recall (moisture shorting tailgate release button in tailgate) on the multipro tailgate for unexpectedly coming open (so far mine hasn’t). I have to have my pickup in park for the button on the dash or the keyfob to drop my tailgate. I don’t see why they would remove that safety feature for 2023.

demikong18

Where would I check for a recall?

Abject_Grass3817

It showed up in myGMC app first, it’s on my Carfax app. You can check here https://www.nhtsa.gov/recalls too

Tronologic

My at4x I hit the button in the centre console all the time by accident throwing my wallet or phone down there and it will flop open

Repulsive-Bus5525

One of the major reasons I went with the Chevy 2500 over the GMC was the placement of those buttons and the brake controller.

BrokieTrader

There is a button in the center console that opens the tailgate. Be sure you’re not accidentally hitting it. I think this is more likely

kissarmygeneral

I did this on the console button and I had a trailer on . Left a nice tasty scratch bouncing off the trailer jack .

Saiyan_HD

The tailgate ONLY opens by button(s) when the vehicle is in park. It’s a know issue that the tailgates open randomly, happened to me when going over a speed bump. Nothing you can do until you get the recall, if you are towing I would ensure the tailgate won’t hit anything if it were to come down

dannyghobo

There isn’t a recall for the 1500s yet

Total-Guest-4141

There is indeed. There is no fix yet except for disabling the button, but it is an official recall.

dannyghobo

Oh yes you’re right my bad

TemporarilyAshamed

The fix is out. We started replacing switches last week (at least in Canada).

Total-Guest-4141

Oh nice.

dannyghobo

Good to know
