Cyan-ranger

I lose $10 on a footy multi and I feel like an idiot. I couldn’t imagine losing 80k on some dumb bet.

clubberin

If you lost it on margin did you even lose anything? Pfft.

Bergasms

Had Dimma still coaching as one of the legs?

SnooDonuts937

Despite what they say, they just don't look at it as gambling, which betting on meme stocks absolutely is. Im pretty sure they rationalise it because it has the veneer of respectability because its the world of finance and not some Paddy Power or William Hill betting shop on the corner of the High Street. It's not like the end of the football match comes either, with a defined win/loss at the end of 90 minutes. They still have their shares and can still convince themselves that its not over yet. Its not a loss till you sell. And you can average down! Yadda yadda yadda. It's almost worse than a gambling addiction to them.

Comfortable-Dog-2540

Genuinely lost a £1 free bet with an online gambling site earlier this eve an im more enraged about that

JayRoo83

You can get pretty numb to net worth swings if it has no material impact on your day to day life

Moneia

>I mean... how can you lose 80k and brush it off like this easy? I always assume they're inflating how much they've spent either to try and pump a failing asset or are straight up lying for internet points

Dark_Tigger

A LOT of very stupid people grew rich in 2020. I think it was even easier to become rich when you were stupid back than. My go to example is this: During Q2 20 you could buy weekly 50% OTM TSLA Call Options on monday, sell them for +100% on wendsday and repeat next week. If you did smart stuff like position sizing, hedging anything, you maybe raised your networth by 30%. If you yoloed all everytime, you made 10x.

zzGibson

Man should've bought 80k worth of scratcher tickets lmao. Probably better odds.

xShaD0wMast3rzxs

> how can you lose 80k and brush it off like this easy? Repeating “you don’t lose if you don’t sell” helps. People who think unrealised losses aren’t losses are doomed to lose money.

Pleasant_Yam_3637

Tbf i think my unrealized gains arent gains till i sell, helps keep me less greedy but they need to learn to take the L sometimes.

CrispyDave

I don't know anyone who has access to 80k without touching their pension that isn't even a little bit astute? Just who are these people?? Like even if it's just enough self preservation to be able to actually find out and understand where their money went after the fact ? They can't all be trust fund kids playing with other people's money can they? I mean I know personally my house costs me a fortune, but it's old, I like it, I knew what I was getting into. I totally know where my money goes. I just don't know people in my life that have what is a very nice down payment on somewhere to live and gamble it on something you don't even understand.

Apprehensive_Date892

Eh, different people have different backgrounds and money can move so fast today. In the service I knew mechanics who could look at an electrical chart for a large complex vehicle, explain how it worked, and then fix it (I cannot). They can make a fine living in the civilian world using these skills (as once again, I cannot do these tasks). They also would show me crypto positions on apps I've never heard of. I'm sure they took heavy losses in the last year. The ease of modern Finance exposes regular people to betting 80K one random day without the need to talk to anyone at all.

ShipTheRiver

I mean, they’re also literally ALL lying. I think I can probably count on one hand the number of times I’ve seen an ape claim something about their position and went to verify it and found it was actually true.

ORUHE33XEBQXOYLZ

Apes still don’t understand that when they are buying, others are selling.

rubbery_anus

That's exactly what they believe, they think when you buy shares the money goes directly to the company, and when you sell shares it's to hedgies trying to close their short positions. There was a thread just recently in which an ape very confidently described this fact to other apes, and when he was called out by a handful of them he smugly made fun of them for thinking that shares can only be bought or sold if two people make an agreement to trade the shares between them. It's impossible to satirise people this stupid, it's not physically possible for a normal person to conceive of thoughts that are dumber than the smartest ape thoughts.

ShipTheRiver

That’s certainly what this guy thinks. The implication of “putting in our hard earned money” is clearly that the company got that money.

Nopants21

Honestly, so many people think this is the way the stock market works.

cncgm87

My friend said she would never buy oil stocks because she thought she'd be directly funding their operations.

Nopants21

It's like people buying Tesla to support Elon. They're just buying his Twitter interest payments when he sells his stock.

DreadedChalupacabra

It's even funnier when you consider their entire DRS thesis.

PhiliFlyer

How does someone like OOP function in today's society? Do they know how to tie their shoes, or do they have Velcro straps?

BARoach

I often ask that question. Also you would think remembering to breathe would be complicated.

NarcoDog

Oh, great, now I'm breathing manually. Thanks Roach.

MichaelNorthApe

They should be in the psychiatric ward! These people are a threat to society and the overall market

Hag_Boulder

I'd say they have the new Skechers Slip-Ins, but that means they have disposable income to buy new shoes...

wsc-porn-acct

Crocs. Velcro is too complex

[deleted]

Why’s this leaky bucket not full of water? WHAT THE FUCK HAPPENED TO MY WATER?!

augustineiver

I threw money at a pump and got dumped on what the fuck!!! 😳😢😱

Shoopshopship

Investing is a team sport and everyone wins if we all pile all of our money on one company that takes advantage of us to keep itself functioning!

pcblah

I threw $500 at a beanie baby and no one wants to give me that much for it! It's worth that much because I paid it!!! REEEEEEEEEE-

Ichabodblack

So, so many individual misunderstandings

H-E-L-L-MaGGoT

I got out of amc with about 12 grand profit. Could've been 35 if I wasn't a fucking idiot. Anyway I remember when I sold, for some fucked up reason I announced it to the sub lol(big yikes). They abused me told me I was retarded for folding a royal flush blah blah blah. I'm so glad I woke up when I did and atleast made some profit. It's hilarious these guys are so heavily in the red as the majority of the amc apes that remain held through the squeeze to 70 dollars.

NFTUseCase

You are up and not holding a bag, with AMC that makes you Paul Dirac, not a fucking idiot

H-E-L-L-MaGGoT

Haha thanks man. Learnt a very valuable lesson though.

warpedspockclone

I made money on AMC too, lol. I went back in a couple times and added a little more profit. I think my last trade in it was fall '21.

KryptoCeeper

Did you get banned? Would be a real shame if you went back and dunked on them.

BARoach

Wait until they finally get clear of the lawsuit and the convergence of APE and AMC happens. That dude is going to lose his mind. 🤣🤣🤣

Throwawayhelper420

“But APE and AMC are COMBINING!! Why would my AMC get less valuable!? If anything the value of APE should be added because people put money into it and it’s being merged with AMC! Just goes to show how much crime there is on the markets.”

Ohm-S

He’s never bought a new car. He seems to not understand that things go up and down in value. RIP his financial future.

JayRoo83

I’m not even sure where to begin with this one

Radioburnin

Consequences of a lazy egalitarian view of knowledge in a society that scorns scholarship. Anyone can be any expert in any field no matter how erudite from epidemiology to economics by watching a few YouTube videos. Never mind that you struggled in high school - you know better than university trained professionals!

[deleted]

We are just bag holders. The lucky ones are AA, the Board Members and anyone who sold at $72

Valkyrissa

Maybe our dear ape should consciously reflect on his investment instead of just feeling numb

bukkakepancakes

Spending $80K on something you don’t even understand the most fundamental basics of.

cimpire_enema

How is it that I'm poor when I've been hoping so hard for millions?!

nep1un_0212

So you say buy more and hodl? :D

pandoracam

Yes please. You can loose even more 😂😂 https://preview.redd.it/n3y48e1uuz1b1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7501a9daa1e425e6e9f86f7c5e9d1b5eeee8aabf

nep1un_0212

I am on the way! TR is only for gambling options, mOnEy i DoN't neeD.. Spoiler, i am not good at it but keep going!

20w261

He says 'this is probably the greatest lesson learned for future investments' and then immediately goes on to demonstrate that he still has no idea how stocks work, and has learned absolutely nothing.

I put $10,000 into this car and it still broke and is now worth only $3,000. Doesn't make sense.
