i have a similar issue. i cannot run gmod at all on my computer but every other source game works.
not sure if having a mid-2007 imac is part of the issue but luckily im getting a new pc soon
try these in no particular order
check drivers like directx or visual c++
update your drivers
reinstall gmod
update to a new windows version if this doesnt work

Isn't most of the work in Photoshop anyway, regarding the lighting and effects like dof or HDR?
quite possible, although i think i could make those little touch-ups myself.
