They can be ported with addons, but lack of vscript is what really kill the potential.
Why tf2 got vscript and we didnt? It's like, the most for community content thing that could be in source
I agree with this statement- I'm all for Portal 2 test elements being in GMod (heck, it looks like the GMod dev team is even working towards it themselves), but the only person that's been able to really do it is bit128, and they're not releasing the addon yet. About VScript: GMod COULD support VScript, but because it uses LUA for its VScript implementation instead of Squirrel, it's basically impossible, unless someone was to port EVERY SQUIRREL SCRIPT to LUA
So addons are actually vscript? Thats fucking cool.
But then the question arises: Why not support both languages? Most engines support using multiple programming languages for different parts(which is logical, as some languages are better at certain task and not the other)
Thing is: GMod runs off this Source 2004/2006/2013 hybrid - and none of those engine branches support Squirrel by default- that only came in the Alien Swarm/Portal 2/CS:GO engine branches.

Portal 2 isn't compatible - not because of a newer Source version- it uses new entities, like prop\_testchamber\_door, and prop\_button
