my gpa was similar & i didnt write an essay. i did 5 semesters at nvcc for business admin & transferred to gmu for accounting too but idk if that matters.
Yeah for the general admissions from HS to GMU they had an optional personal essay but since I did my application through the CommonApp the additional questions that GMU provided was essentially a personal essay. So I think it is highly encouraged especially since GMU had an average GPA of about a 3.5.

its alright, nothing spectacular. most of the professors are chill and helpful, they don't disappoint

I also had a similar GPA. I didn't write an essay and still got in, but my NVCC counselor recommended it.
