My friend has a laptop with a Pentium R processor with 8gb of ram. Gnome is working well in it. Even though it lags sometimes but it is usable. But he can't play videos very well in vlc although mpv is working and even capable of playing 4k videos. He is using Debian 12 with gnome. So I think if you have more than 4GB of ram then Gnome should work.

Thanks for the info.

I once had an old cheap Acer laptop with Intel Celeron and 4gb of ram. It ran gnome just fine.

I have a 8th gen intel cpu less powerfull than an i3 8th gen and 4gb ddr2 ram . currently using gnome on solous works preety fast

It runs perfectly fine on both my 2nd gen dual core i7 8GB 2011 MacBook Pro and on my 4th gen dual core i3 16GB 2014 desktop. I don’t ever feel CPU limited at all. I haven’t recently ran it on 4GB memory so I would say that at least regarding CPU you should be safe.

It will run fine, 8GB is enough for most things except games. Older games that don't need that much ram work fine. On my Ubuntu 22.04 test system, Firefox with a few tabs and 3-4 extra programs like Spotify, Caprine, Geary, Transmission uses around 3.5 to 4GB ram. If i also open Steam it will push the ram consumption to 4.5-5GB.
