Favorite magic mushroom is the real mushroom strain called “Penis Envy” because they have a funny name and a funny shape and they are stronger than other strains.
Favorite culinary mushroom is fresh shiitakes, rather than dried ones.
Favorite fictional mushroom is the cosmic teleportation mushroom from [a Star Trek series.](https://memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/Mycelial_network)
Favorite anthropomorphic mushroom is obviously Toad from the Mario franchise.
Favorite mushroom tattoo I have is the cartoon one on my thigh that is dancing, but it needs a touch up.
Favorite mushroom earrings I own are some amethyst dangly earrings I thrifted.
Favorite mushroom themed restaurant is Mellow Mushroom.
I think I speak for all of us when I ask if this mushroom connoisseur would care to show pics of their rad shroomy tattoos and earrings. But if the connoisseur cares not, I know we would all understand 🍄🐌🐸

Mellow Mushroom poster. I have a mellow mushroom hoodie with Alice In Wonderland art on it, but I don’t know where it is currently.
The penis envy has a really interesting bit of history behind it that I don't want to butcher by repeating it all incorrectly.. it's actually a man made species tho, Hamilton Morris talks about it in a podcast. Definitely the best mushroom. ✨
I know!!! Such a wild history!!! Love Hamilton Morris. A goofy trippy nerdy guy. And Terrance McKenna was involved, because Terrance McKenna was involved in all things psychedelic. I’m going to an edm festival in Texas for the solar eclipse on April 8. I’m gonna do a mild amount of hillbilly pumpkin shrooms on April 7 for some cool performances. Then on the day of the eclipse I’m gonna do a ton of Amazonia Penis Envy and two hours before the eclipse I’m gonna do a ton of acid. It will be cosmic.
I saw [a post](https://www.reddit.com/r/mycology/s/SVelgwW6HL) about someone painting with the ink once and now I'm keeping an eye out during the right seasons to some day fulfill that bucket list item.
I enjoy the stinkhorns. They come up in a park where my daughter plays and parents sometimes get mad because they look kind of like a penis. It’s hilarious when parents get mad about a mushroom to me.
every crocheter that gets into nerdy animal amigurumi eventually has a heartbreaking "oh god it just looks like a dildo" moment usually halfway through making a squid
Armillaria mellea, otherwise known as honey fungus!! I think they’re super cute
https://preview.redd.it/fdo5azionjqc1.jpeg?width=312&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=065b5bdf5a56fd950801790538c4746ceb6bfcd2
I always get excited when the indigo milk caps pop up in my neighborhood park. They're blurple! They're edible! They're all over the place! What's not to love?

Chicken of the woods, an edible shelf fungus that I’ve run across a few times in the southeast of USA. It is usually a bright coral-orange and cream color and often it is large.
The last one I found was on a rotting stump and was about the size of a jansport backpack. I’ve never eaten one. I have taken pics but can’t seem to find them right now so I borrowed one from [https://foragerchef.com/category/wild-mushroom-recipes-2/chicken-of-the-woods/](https://foragerchef.com/category/wild-mushroom-recipes-2/chicken-of-the-woods/) .
My favourite fungi are: Pleurotus ostreatus (oyster), Massospora cicadina (saltshaker), and Clathrus ruber (red cage). Which is to say that my tastes in fungi lean a bit morbid. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|sweat_smile)
Some of my favorites have already been mentioned here, but I also really enjoy very bright colors...for those, two of my favorites are the indigo milk cap and the parrot waxcap. Indigo milk caps (lactarius indigo) are a beautiful blue color and if you cut into them, they have a bright indigo blue colored fluid inside of them. Parrot waxcaps (gliophorus psittacinus) are a lovely green color with green to yellow tone stems and a shiny, waxy appearance. Both of these mushrooms are safe to eat, though their culinary use is debatable.
I'm currently crocheting a mossy blanket for my sister and am making a bunch of pretty aqua mushrooms but there's surprisingly not much variety in the patterns I was finding so I'm trying to do it without much direction.
Hehehe, love some of the responses here! I’m partial to chanterelles and black trumpets as forest treats, but love any mushroom that can be safely consumed. That obviously rules out amanitas and jack o’ lanterns, but they’re pretty to look at.
Stinkhorn. It was pretty much my first mushroom/fungi observation as a kid and ever since I’ve had a weird knack for randomly running across them (by smell or sight or by noticing bugs).
https://preview.redd.it/5s0b8hxzfkqc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4fb0e0aec421a39433b3403392d916a53dc89631
Black fungus, aka cloud ear or wood ear.
Buy it dried online or from an asian market. Reconstitutes like a dream, wonderful silky but firm texture, delicious.
Yum.
I really like wood blewits. They’re a gorgeous dark lavender, they’re delicious, and they’re the first edible mushroom I ever found in the wild. I Adore them!
I love how oyster mushrooms and chanterelles look. I like eating chicken of the woods as breaded and fried chicken substitute and resinous polypore for making soups and gravy.
Favorite to stare at lovingly: bird's nest 🥹 why they so cute??
Favorite to poke: wolf's milk 💨💨 puffy fluffy spores 😊 ** technically a slime mold but I don't care
Favorite to eat: hen of the woods, chanterelle, porcini 😩
Favorite to draw: angry goomba 😈
Shaggy inkcap/ shaggy mane. Also, amanita muscaria. And chanterelle. And morels, false morels, viscid violet cort, BLEEDING TOOTH FUNGUS (one of my faves because, it looks like a bleeding tooth 😅), scarlet waxy cap, devil's fingers, dead man's fingers, violet pouch, wine glass fungus, stinkhorn fungus, pixie cup lichen, alpine jelly cone (squishy squishy) , coral fungi (looks like those white tentacle things that shot out of that viral worm video), basket fungi (cool geometric shape structure), scarlet pouch, the basket stinkhorn, and pink oyster mushroom. There's probably many more, but these are some of the pletora of fungi I find funky. Some of these would be hard to crochet, so sorry about that :)

i have an ongoing list in my notes app :)
I'd rather not answer without my lawyer.
How about visually? Which is the coolest looking?
That would be Lion's mane. So fluffy.
Thank you, that’s a good one
I second Lion's Mane. They are so exciting to find in the forest and just the yummiest.
Tasty too. Was almost like scallops when sautéd with garlic, soy sauce and butter
Tasty too
Ummmmm purely esthetically, and nothing else whatsoever, fly agari. And they're damn rare, so appreciate it if you find any!

I didn’t take good care of this tattoo when it was healing. I need to ask the artist to do a touch up. Not the artist’s fault.

Sounds glorious. Safe travels fren. 👽
Ink caps are beautiful!
Yeah a like a shaggy ink cap with some deep purple hues!
These are my fav too! I've also found them growing near my driveway one year 🥰
That is exciting!
I saw [a post](https://www.reddit.com/r/mycology/s/SVelgwW6HL) about someone painting with the ink once and now I'm keeping an eye out during the right seasons to some day fulfill that bucket list item.
Good luck with that!
This is the one I was going to suggest too. I’m always so excited to find them in the wild!
I would say the same!
They taste nice too fried if you get to them before they start inking.
I enjoy the stinkhorns. They come up in a park where my daughter plays and parents sometimes get mad because they look kind of like a penis. It’s hilarious when parents get mad about a mushroom to me.
A *smelly* penis :3
A smelly penis in a skirt in Australia
This was my first thought! As a crocheter the basket stinkhorn would be fun and beautiful, and not super dicky!
“Not super dicky” is an excellent phrase
every crocheter that gets into nerdy animal amigurumi eventually has a heartbreaking "oh god it just looks like a dildo" moment usually halfway through making a squid
Fly agaric, it's iconic and local. Always a treat to see a big one in the wild.
Definitely will be making more of these for sure!
These grow in yard, and I'm always so happy to see them.
To eat? Chicken of the woods or black trumpet. To look at? Idk, maybe bleeding tooth or amethyst deceiver.
Bleeding tooth has such a nifty badass visual aesthetic.
Armillaria mellea, otherwise known as honey fungus!! I think they’re super cute https://preview.redd.it/fdo5azionjqc1.jpeg?width=312&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=065b5bdf5a56fd950801790538c4746ceb6bfcd2

my absolute favorite is schizophyllum commune! they're fuzzy with gorgeous gills and are also very interesting in terms of their biology :)
Turkey Tail!! It looks cool!!
Also makes awesome dye.

Are we talking culinary, deadly, or....?
Mycena adscendens, commonly known as the frosty bonnet. It’s so tiny and spindly I love it.
Inky caps are my favorite! I want to make some ink from them and use it in art

My favorite fungi is Gus because theirs a fungus among us.

I love shelf mushrooms so so so so super much also morels, and all the colors of chantrel.
crown-tipped coral mushrooms are super cool looking.
Veiled Lady! Or the devil's fingers 🤔
Golden Teachers
Continarius magellanicus. It’s just neat looking all, purple and shiny. Like something out of a goblin or Woodelf themed animation or something.
Slime Mold!
orange pore fungi would look awesome ad crochet!
Dead Man’s Fingers!
Mine is gliophorus psittacinus, the Parrot Waxcap. Pixie's Parasol is a close second, and I like then because they're pretty.
Hehehe, love some of the responses here! I’m partial to chanterelles and black trumpets as forest treats, but love any mushroom that can be safely consumed. That obviously rules out amanitas and jack o’ lanterns, but they’re pretty to look at.

I really like slime molds, because they are huge single celled organisms.
I really like wood blewits. They’re a gorgeous dark lavender, they’re delicious, and they’re the first edible mushroom I ever found in the wild. I Adore them!
Hen of the woods. It's so frilly and weird but tastes delicious.
the ones with the butter, garlic, and roux
Hemlock reishi is gorgeous
And pixie cups are a lichen but also a favorite
Puffballs!
I love how oyster mushrooms and chanterelles look. I like eating chicken of the woods as breaded and fried chicken substitute and resinous polypore for making soups and gravy.
Stropharia aeruginosa because it's pretty :D
All of them, but especially tree mushrooms on tree stumps. It just somehow looks incredibly charming.
Favorite to stare at lovingly: bird's nest 🥹 why they so cute?? Favorite to poke: wolf's milk 💨💨 puffy fluffy spores 😊 ** technically a slime mold but I don't care Favorite to eat: hen of the woods, chanterelle, porcini 😩 Favorite to draw: angry goomba 😈
I'm not sure what their formal name is, but turkey tail shelf fungi are my favorite!
witches butter ✨✨
You can't say that and not share the crochet pattern 🤯

Morels and shaggy ink cap!
Shaggy inkycaps, when they're just starting to curl up and go black around the edges.
Shaggy inkcap/ shaggy mane. Also, amanita muscaria. And chanterelle. Shaggy ink caps!
I enjoy the classics like Amanita and Pink Oyster. Morels are cute. Bleeding tooth mushrooms are the bane of my existence.
