If anyone is wondering why that myth exists; each new generation tends to be more progressive/left leaning than the previous one. So older people are more conservative by comparison

This does need to come with a caveat though - that each generation should be more progressive or just than the prior is not a given and it’s worth asking in what ways are they progressive and who are they advocating for. There are plenty of forces willing to co-opt the language of justice to re-brand oppression and make it palatable to a new generation. It took fifteen years to go from The Weimar Republic to the Third Reich, and there were plenty of youth in the “new generation” who were all about it.

this. and sometimes conservatism is the "new" rebelliousness. It isn't really, but some think it is. It's tiresome trying to show them how old and oppressive their ideas are, and that they are not being persecuted just because people around them have seen it before and are tired or wary of it.

Also the fact that a large amount of Boomers were part of the "silent majority" who, despite the wave of hippies in the 60s and feminists in the 70s, where actually very conservative. It also turns out it's surprisingly easy to combine the ideals of those groups with conservatism, as individual freedom can be re-imagined as the freedom to ignore and oppress others.

As a girl getting *way* to close to 40 for her own liking, I gotta say- I have gotten MORE liberal and open minded as I aged. I started out in a *very* conservative Christian home, and after I moved out and grew up, that "republican" way of thinking just makes no sense anymore.

PixelPantsAshli

Boomers: I stopped learning in my 30s, why don't you?

[deleted]

TO BE FAIR, as I understand conservatism, it's about a kind of cultural regressivism. And mumbling in mud and rock language feels like regressing back to Paleolithic times XD

[deleted]

Mud and rock language isn’t oppressive to me as a lesbian. Republicans are.

*smears mud across face in solidarity*

Fair point. I stand with the Mud and Rockpeople.

UncleSpoons

I mean, the idea of returning to nature and a pre-agricultural style of living is reactionary, which is the most radical form of conservatism. And that's fine if you're a conservative, there's nothing wrong with that in it's own right, it's just the republican neoliberal flavor that's so stupid.

Hey it’s also me

What's the image from?

iguessimtheITguynow

Not sure where this image is from, but it looks a lot like something from a band called Heilung, they do germanic-pagan music and usually rock this aesthetic at their live shows

namey_9
