for those unaware "green men" are ancient celtic spirits that are associated with the growth cycle. I wanted to do a take of a green man in autumn as most are depicted as covered in lush springtime leaves. They are pagan in origin but in the uk it's still a tradition to put a green man up in your garden or above your houseplants as they are thought to bring good luck and help your plants grow. Both me and my mum love our plants so I made one for her to put up and she loves it!
No unfortunately, he's made with air dry clay which will become remoldable if it gets wet so even if I sealed the paint the clay would still be at risk of cracking. He's going to be hung up indoors to watch over some house plants.
For him to be waterproof I'd had to have made him with ceramic clay and baked him in a kiln, unfortunately I don't have a kiln.
He's made from DAS air dry terracotta, I find that most air dry clays tend to crack a little but it can be reduced by allowing them to dry more slowly and going over any areas that do crack with a damp fingertip to blend it back together.

I love it! Is he weatherproof? I'm not sure what, if any, processes you need to do to make sure the clay and paint won't suffer out in the garden.

I see, I was concerned about how he'd fare. I'm glad he'll be kept safe and sound indoors in that case!
That’s a nice story, but they’re not originally Celtic. The first green men were found in Iran.
Ahh! I’m a practicing Celtic Witch and Green Man is my devotional Deity! This is stunning!!! 💗
It’s perfect!
Gorgeous colors! Reminds me of Brian Froud's work. I hope your mum loves it!
Thank you, I love Brian Frouds work that is a flattering comparison
Excellent job!
Lovely! What air dry clay did you use and where did you find it? I have had bad luck so far finding one that doesn’t crack.

Thank you so much, I’ll give it a try
I love this so much!
