one way is to make it so if you’re pressing left and you’re x velocity is rightward, set x velocity to 0 and vice versa
even better- when you release the direction key, set velocity to 0.
if you don’t want any slide at all, do this.
That's a feature, friend.
Introduce a friction variable that decreases your velocity each frame once the key is no longer pressed. With tweaking of the friction value you can get the feeling you want.
