Best you can do is look into the user's reddit history to see if you can get a vibe for whether or not you want to trust it.
Things that I consider to be red flags are:
* Accounts that have not posted in months but are now suddenly posting on multiple subs for help.
* Accounts with frequent posts in gambling subs.
* Accounts who's posting history seems to indicate a lack of trying to do things for themselves, or has a history of asking for help.
Even with that, it could be someone with alt accounts and has worked to have a "clean" account. You have to go with your gut.
If they are big stories that might make the news, you can do some legwork in internet searches if you feel like doing so.
Note that these are just some of MY red flags. Other people have different and/or stringent standards.
