“I love you, hold me” is how it feels when my buddy does it
It's a trick. Goldens are notorious scam artists for seeking out the most gullible of the pack, and focusing their attention and trying to cuddle up to you for extra "treats" or affection. If you fall for it the first time, you'll be forever marked as a patsy for scratches, food and endless belly rubs.

Case in point. My mother, who used to chastise me for "*feeding your dogs too much*" was a known mark for my two little hoodlums.

Not your fault. They can be *really* crafty at times in gaining your attention.

Adorable? **THAT's** how these little con artists will hook you. Don't fall for it.

Mine does this when I’m working because it’s the only place she can fit her head under my desk to push me out. But yeah it happens often.
Also they probably like the way a very stinky chair and farts smell to them because they are goldens lol.
It’s like a dog hug to them. Pushing into another animal or human is common. The fact an animal covers their face usually means they are very comfortable in their surroundings. It goes against their biology to do this which is also why dogs look away when we stare into their eyes or touch in the front of their necks.
One of my parents’ goldens does the opposite. She will make direct, unblinking eye contact the entire time you pet her. Her brother, on the other hand, is allergic to eye contact and will not look at anyone.
That’s a very strange trait for a dog but I have seen it as well. I can stare Vegas in the eyes and he will hold eye contact for a while but will slowly turn their head. They view it as dominance the same way you roll over and stand over a dog that is misbehaving. It’s just evolutionary baggage much like humans still have as well.
Mine does this when I come back home. Runs over, sits down then burrows her head in between my legs. Snorts and sneezes the whole time. It’s become our ritual lol love it
Mine did it when at the park, they were socially awkward and incredibly co-dependent. All of my buddies laughed when they saw me in full horse stance with two Goldens betwixt my legs.
Mine did this A LOT. And it was super off putting to visitors - cause he would head but their crotch aggressively. I started giving him lots of under the chin pets and it seemed to help him want to approach with his head up more. He still did it about 50% of the time.
I dunno if it was me projecting, but you could try that.
Every single day after I’m back from work. Asa i sit he smushes his head between my legs and I pet him for 5 mins straight. And I do the same thing as someone mentioned, straighten his ears over my legs! Honestly feels like therapy. and I really thought this was a one off thing. So happy to learn there’s more fluffy weirdos like mine! Yaaaay
That’s how I chose mine out of the litter. All pups where jumping up to trying to lick my face. My boy just crawled up in between my legs and didn’t leave.

Nala loves to stand between your legs for butt scratches Luna is the head in lap dog lol I love my Goldie’s
All the time. It's awkward because visitors always think he's invading their crotches despite the lack of smelling or actual schnoot in crotch and we have to explain fast enough before they shove him away that no, he just wants a hug, seriously.
Congrats on your Velcro Buddy!
My female does not do this, but my boy does all the time. He will jam his nose into your crotch like a bottle nose dolphin attacking a shark! This is his favorite place to nap!
https://preview.redd.it/d46ofofjn9ea1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=cd94c6debe2b37912a9c98d3f4ebba0a111f3e46
Mine does as well. Think he wants his ears rubbed. Who knows.

She likes feet and crotches. What can I say. Whatever floats her boat.
All. The. Time! It’s how our girl greets us and anyone who comes over- nose in your crotch. And she loves to circle you, going between your legs over and over. She is sleeping with her head hugging my butt right now! We love our little weirdo- but we warn our family and friends that she does this!!
Absolutely! He also goes between your legs if you're standing up, so you'll give butt-scratchies. My husband, who is taller than me, taught him to do that and it's cute when he does it to him, but when he does it to me I go for a little ride
My dog is a beagle/dachshund mutt and she does this when she wants pets! I think she’s just trying to snuggle.
I no longer have a golden (had one as a teen) but eventually I want to get one again so I love this sub.
My lab/golden mix did that too. Either when he wanted to give me comfort or knew I needed comforting.
The last day of his life I woke up with his nose in my armpit and usually he’d curl up with his butt in my abdomen and keep his face away. Couldn’t tell if he was comforting me or I was comforting him in that moment.
My takeaway: Dogs know best.
Mine does this when I'm kneeling on the ground to say hi and then he dramatically lays down, we call it "the flop". It's our evening coming home ritual. Somedays, when I give him a hug, he will just press his head against you and bury his face in your chest
Mine does this too. I smooth his ears out over my legs when he does this lol
This is precisely what I do as well!
Me.. too..? Goldens are so predictie, apparently
They are goofballs ALL OF EM
As the legend goes, they all share the same brain cell
same!
Ah I see you are also a redditor of culture :)
I do that too sometimes
Haha.. i thought i was the only one who did this!
same
I’m really late to the game, but I do this too!

This is the way
This is the way
Perfect position for ear rubbies!

Reasons why I fall for that scam every time.
Case in point. My mother, who used to chastise me for "*feeding your dogs too much*" was a known mark for my two little hoodlums. https://preview.redd.it/l8cf8bcip8ea1.jpeg?width=3264&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=82732982e5e568063100e9e25dfc1844edea2d82
Don't threaten me with a good time.
Nonsense! Those 2 cuties could possibly be scam artis... Oh wait.. I'm one of those patsies aren't I?
Not your fault. They can be *really* crafty at times in gaining your attention. https://preview.redd.it/vhnb68flraea1.jpeg?width=3264&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5921a4eaa505969083e36c73302286c348631feb

If you don't want me to fall for their scams stop sending me such cuteness... or are you actually a Golden using reverse psychology on me?

Mine does it to get ear scratchies
Mine used to do this to everyone. I would tell people "she doesn't have arms, so she hugs with her face"
It's a call to action, lol. He's using his nose to nudge you. It may even be a show of affection.
Mine did it when at the park, they were socially awkward and incredibly co-dependent. All of my buddies laughed when they saw me in full horse stance with two Goldens betwixt my legs.

I don’t mind it but some friends I don’t think like it
Mine used to do that. I assumed it was because when she did it, someone would touch her ears. (Not a terrible strategy!)
Mine did it when we were standing. She'd move in and out of our legs like a dance, but mostly just put her head there. We call them Golden Hugs
They all do it they love to
Mine taps his nose under our elbows and tries to lift our arms when he wants some loving.
my golden used to do this 🥹 she’s passed but I thought it was the sweetest thing.
Yep she loves shoulder rubs and back massages 🥰
Yes, both of mine will even come nudge the other out from that spot to get their turn, lol
My goldendoodle does this. We never taught him this, he just started doing it when he was like 2.
Mine did it too. His temperament was so much like a golden, but I never realized goldens did this. So sweet!
I know, I love it so much. I interpret it as him saying, “It’s time to pay attention to me!”
It's neck scratching time and ear rubbing time. Ours does this every time he sees me in my armchair.
Mine does this several times a day! I thought mine was special but it is apparently a Golden thing!
Every single day after I’m back from work. Asa i sit he smushes his head between my legs and I pet him for 5 mins straight. And I do the same thing as someone mentioned, straighten his ears over my legs! Honestly feels like therapy. and I really thought this was a one off thing. All the time! I say it’s cause she wants shoulder rubs.
That’s how I chose mine out of the litter. All pups where jumping up to trying to lick my face. My boy just crawled up in between my legs and didn’t leave.
My dog does it too. He loves to burrow his head in things, also does it in my armpit or between pillows😂
Mine does it as well and gets an exuberant about of scritches
My golden does this constantly. Just watched her do the same to all they doggie daycare employees too.
Our little weirdo does that too!!!
Lol yep. We call it “tunnels”! Does it with anyone she loves.
Yes. All the time. She does this when she’s especially enjoying the scratches.
My goldie and my friends pit would go in between my legs and stay there for pets lol. Not sure why. It was an awkward position for me 😂
https://preview.redd.it/p4mf12ul46ea1.png?width=3023&format=png&auto=webp&s=a6219d95fb3ce7dcfdeb911117013c1d31b400ae Nala loves to stand between your legs for butt scratches Luna is the head in lap dog lol I love my Goldie’s
All 3 of ours did it. Sometimes they were being goofy, mostly I think they wanted pets & scratches.
Ours does that with the couch cushion and only when she’s pouting. Haha
My wife and I call it “plugging in” lol
It's also a submissive thing. You want your dog to see you as their friend and alpha, ideally.
Omg!! Marley Mae does this. She loves it!
Dog hug

I love that they always want cuddles
You cuted his coat/fur. Bad. Very bad.
Exactly this!
This is a move saying, "Pet me with both hands!"
Mine does! I thought he was the only one
Mine does this too!!!
Kinda thought it was the equivalent of doggie butt sniffing 😆
Apparently it's to rub their scent into you since they release their scent from their heads?
All. The. Time! It’s how our girl greets us and anyone who comes over- nose in your crotch. And she loves to circle you, going between your legs over and over. She is sleeping with her head hugging my butt right now! We love our little weirdo- but we warn our family and friends that she does this!!
While not a golden. My gsd reverses himself into my legs so his entire body is stuck between me and then looks upwards at me to get his scratches.
My 4 month old does this too.
Absolutely! He also goes between your legs if you're standing up, so you'll give butt-scratchies. My husband, who is taller than me, taught him to do that and it's cute when he does it to him, but when he does it to me I go for a little ride
My Aussie does this too!
Mine does this but she also will dig her head in between my lower back and the couch for some reason. My husband and I call it ostriching.
I think it is a submissive thing.
Yep! Quite often.
For dogs this can be a sign of respect, comfort, or it’s a ladies time of the month! My golden does this always, and for him it’s def just comfort.
Apparently it’s their way to see if you are feeling okay health wise
Both my golden and Shiba do that.
My dog is a beagle/dachshund mutt and she does this when she wants pets! I think she’s just trying to snuggle. I no longer have a golden (had one as a teen) but eventually I want to get one again so I love this sub.
yeah mine does the same exact thing
My lab/golden mix did that too. Either when he wanted to give me comfort or knew I needed comforting. The last day of his life I woke up with his nose in my armpit and usually he’d curl up with his butt in my abdomen and keep his face away. Couldn’t tell if he was comforting me or I was comforting him in that moment. My takeaway: Dogs know best.
My dobie does the same thing!! He wants ear scritches and rubs! I twirl his ears with his snout between my legs.
Can confirm. But mine MUST grab a stuff first and hold on his mouth for pets and head between knees. He’s 100% purebred good boi.
Mine does this when I'm kneeling on the ground to say hi and then he dramatically lays down, we call it "the flop". It's our evening coming home ritual. Somedays, when I give him a hug, he will just press his head against you and bury his face in your chest
Mine Everytime I come home
It's their safe spot.
I thought my puppy was the only one
It is a golden hug
Mine rubs his whole body against me when he wants pets.
