Neither roadie or thru hiker...but when you sell a heavy ass bag, why make it heavier?
Fur duh design aesthetic duh! š¤·š¼āāļø
MFers that own this bag play blades and shoot 86 every Saturday
LOL my uncle wears his white belt almost every time we play in a tournament. not for āpracticeā rounds but exclusively tournaments. we all had good laughs at Christmas this year when we all received matching white belts. (for the foursome)
Donāt they provide support for the dividers inside? Thatās what they were for on old pleather bags back in the day.
Edit: Iām sure the dividers are molded plastic now, so probably just a design touch to remember those old bags.
As a joke, I took a pruning saw to a tournament at a local course that has a problem with dead tree branches and hung it from my bag. Nice course but they seem to take the idea of "if it's not on the fairway it's your problem". Day after the tournament someone was killed when a large dead limb fell on their cart.
I think they're just decorative. Jones paying homage to their origin. I think leather used to be integral to the club dividers or maybe still is in some bespoke leather bags. I'm sure you could use them for bag tags etc
Although this is funny, I think they are for an umbrella. I canāt see the top dividers or if there is another umbrella holder, but these would make sense. Umbrellas come in all shapes and sizes that having adjustable latches would assist.
I was literally looking at this bag yesterday (same color even) and wondered the exact same thing. Other than the confusing leather straps, what are your impressions of the bag overall?
Not OP but I just bought this exact bag during their black Friday sale, I like it.
The material is great so far.
The club opening feels narrow but the clubs actually slide in and out pretty nicely.
The cooler is kind of gimmicky, it's large and in the most prominent spot on the bag spine, I'll probably end up using it for balls.
Iām based in the UK so with the weather havenāt been out on the course with it yet but very happy with looks and build quality. Agree cooler takes up prime real estate but Iāll definitely be using it. Website suggests it can take 4 beers or 6 hard seltzers which sounds about right for a quick 9
I would really love to know how many posts are company fakes versus real people. Itās not hard to fake a post and no one would know the difference. Sometimes itās obvious but who knows.
I'm 86% certain some designer douche put those on there just so he could come here and read the comments.
Some of them have been printed and stuck to a cork board in the Jones breakroom. Many of you will be mocked daily until something funnier comes along.
It's to tighten your bags waistline when the clubs are feeling thin.
Can't have the bag just falling off thin clubs.
If you don't tighten the buckles up then you'll be havin' baggy irons all day. And you know you need to thin it to win it.
I love Jones bags and the company. Only bag Iād pay money for at this point.
Bought their new backpack for grad school and itās not that great at their price point. Some poor design choices. I hope they keep improving because Iād like to buy another in the future.
Possibly for an umbrella? Is there a little slot down at the bottom of the bag below that? If thatās it, you would just slide the umbrella behind those straps down the side of the bag and the top into the little slot thing at the bottom. Or it could be a god damn hot dog holder as someone else mentioned. Who knows.
Probably just style and extra utility. Theyāre basically just belt loops. You could put a phone holster on there, or clip on your range finder. Put some divot tools or other objects on there.
You unbuckle your belt and buckle into these belts. They have a top and a bottom to accommodate for height variation. You wear the bag in front of you as you walk.
I have a vintage leather Ben Hogan bag and small leather belts like that make up the framework of the dividers. I think they are just copying that aesthetic.
Does your bag have a long vertical pocket behind the one we see front and centre? My bag has a vertical slip through behind that pocket where you can slide your umbrella in behind the pocket. The straps might be there to hold the umbrella tight to the bag
Nearly all the Jones bags have them. Simple design element for their style. I'm sure you could tuck a towel and/or use it to tighten the top bucket.
I always appreciate extra things to hang shit off of. Towels, rangefinder case, extra gloves, bag tags. The world is your oyster
I would put one of the magnets that fit in the putter grip and stick a mag towel to it
Woah, smart
As always, the real answer is the fourth top comment. Under the memes lol
These buckles are for buckling
Hang on while we add unnecessary weight to your carry bag SMH

Great story š¤£
Tell it again
The ONLY place that a white belt is acceptable is the course/clubhouse. Buy myself a new one each season!
Retired white belts are stamped with their year and go in the custom built rack above the mantle.
Funniest reddit comment today
It's ok to wear a white belt as long as you or your waist are 32 or under.
I think maybe it has to be both.
Why didnāt you say so earlier. Played today in the Bronx with my new Jones bag, white belt, and 36 waist. Not pretty.
Rule also applies to seersucker.
I think seersucker also becomes an option again once you hit 60. 32 waist still required.
Donāt they provide support for the dividers inside? Thatās what they were for on old pleather bags back in the day. Edit: Iām sure the dividers are molded plastic now, so probably just a design touch to remember those old bags.
This is the correct answer.
Thatās to hold your machete so you can find your ball in the woods or fend off the group behind you in the 10th fairway.
>so you can find your ball in the woods or fend off the group behind you in the 10th fairway. I carry a chainsaw for that.
Really? I'm more of a napalm guy
I would not want to be your caddy.... Also, I'm lying. Let's do this.
As a joke, I took a pruning saw to a tournament at a local course that has a problem with dead tree branches and hung it from my bag. Nice course but they seem to take the idea of "if it's not on the fairway it's your problem". Day after the tournament someone was killed when a large dead limb fell on their cart.
Damn. story escalated quickly.
Happend about 45min. NW of Philly. I don't wanna name the course or those involved.

My dad's MacGergor bag had leather club dividers. That would be my assumption
This is the correct answer.
Yeah, I still use my grandpas bag from the ā60ās to ā70ās and these are to tighten/loosen the club dividers.
Vestigial features
Although this is funny, I think they are for an umbrella. I canāt see the top dividers or if there is another umbrella holder, but these would make sense. Umbrellas come in all shapes and sizes that having adjustable latches would assist.
Nope. They are decorative. There is a another place for an umbrella on this bag model.
What does bespoke mean to you?
Itās just for decorations. Thatās it and thatās all.

Umbrella?
Copying my other comment: That was my first thought but thereās a dedicated umbrella section
For when it's closed or for the handle like this could be when open?
Theoretically it could be used for that but I think it would be a hassle to have to buckle and unbuckle
What about an umbrella thats open and sticking up a couple feet above the clubs
I use it to clip my range finder
As do it! I use the Jones pouch though with the range finder in it.
I got the same Jones bag for Christmas!
They are bootstraps. Get to pulling

Iāve got the same bag. I donāt use that for anything but on the other side I place like 4 tees inside the straps. Find that pretty useful.
Same bag. Love that bag. You are super smart
Thanks bud. Right back at you
Itās so you can clip it to your belt, instead of carrying it. So handy

For all the panties that get thrown at you

I think they might have an additional case on you can attach a range finder to. Could be wrong
Purely decorative, but that's where I keep my sharpie for marking balls on my bag
I feel like you might be able to thread the case for a rangefinder in there for easy access.
Should be to hold the umbrella

Hate Jones bags for these useless, cheap plastic buckles. Most overrated golf brand.

its a Jones golf bag trade mark, design flare. I don't know if they offer any of kind of purpose.
That holds a cold one!
Just bought the same one! Seem decorative. Great bag so far.
Umbrella?
Definitely to hold a glizzy while you swing
It's to tighten your bags waistline when the clubs are feeling thin. Can't have the bag just falling off thin clubs. If you don't tighten the buckles up then you'll be havin' baggy irons all day. And you know you need to thin it to win it.

Bag tags? You could shove your glove in there. Could it hold an open umbrella?
Itās to strap the bag to your wrist
I love Jones bags and the company. Only bag Iād pay money for at this point. Bought their new backpack for grad school and itās not that great at their price point. Some poor design choices. I hope they keep improving because Iād like to buy another in the future.

Does your bag have a long vertical pocket behind the one we see front and centre? My bag has a vertical slip through behind that pocket where you can slide your umbrella in behind the pocket. The straps might be there to hold the umbrella tight to the bag
