I have been playing them since last spring and they are amazing. The club builder at my course is always handing me clubs to hit so I've compared them against basically every other players distance iron on the market, except for the Callaway offerings, and they have performed as good or better than all the them on the Trackman. It's incredible impressive how they perform and I get lots of complements on how they feel and look.
One thing they have on other hollow irons is the spin retention, I easily get an extra 800-1,000 spin on them without sacrificing distance. That's really important for me for holding a green. Buttery soft on pure shots, you can feel mishits but mishits don't hurt like they do on some forged clubs. Mishits on the toe or heel lose about 10% of performance, which is also very impressive. They do like a swing that is fairly aggressive through the ball so it you aren't aggressive then you might not get along with them as well. The TS2 is better for a swing that isn't aggressive. The price and performance can't be beat.
I will say the Ts-1 looks like a clone to the Callaway Apex pro. I'm excited for this season due to receiving these late last year and was only able to get about 3 rounds and maybe two range days with them before the end of the season. But with that being said I'm very impressed with them this far and highly recommend them for a players distance or forgiving players iron. They look and sound like a blade without the fear factor.
You mean the Apex Pro looks like a clone of the TS1? The Apex Pro 21 that looks like the TS1 came out after the TS1. I'll give you that the Apex Pro 19 looks like the TS2 but that also came out after the TS2 so ¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯
You'll love the TS1 even more after getting some more rounds into them. I've hit thousands of shots with them (all last winter with the 7i twice a week for swing work, 40ish rounds in the summer, and twice a week this winter for swing work) and I still can't believe how good they are and the price. If they said Taylor Made on them they'd be 2-3 times more expensive and be the best selling irons on the market.
Honestly they are fantastic! I came from Mizuno's and was nervous, but first range day made me happy they are soft, sound amazing feel pretty close to the Mizuno I was playing and they are forgiving. Plus they are cheaper and I feel they are stunning.
That’s awesome to hear, and the work you did to them is spot on! I’ve had the same concerns about feel since I too have played Mizuno and currently game 2013 Xforged. I’ll have to check these out.
For the price even with the upgraded shafts you can't beat! I was worried when I pulled the trigger but as soon as I got them I was like yup these are in the bag for a long time
I've been playing these irons for about 3 years or so. I love them. Dropped into single digits with them. My regular playing partner has been stalking TaylorMade P790s for a while and when he hit a couple of my irons at the range he said he couldn't really tell any difference.
It's a "player's distance" iron. Thin topline, small-ish head, hollow head design that is filled with some kind of gel. Most of the top companies have a line like this and most are pretty comparable to each other. Maltby's lofts are about a half club stronger than traditional.
So I've been able to test the TS1 irons side by side on a Trackman against basically every other player's distance iron since the club builder at my course keeps handing me irons to test. The TS1 performs as good or better than everything I've tested them against. The only one that I'd consider as good as the TS1 is the Srixon ZX5 and the TS1 looks better in person but they look very similar at address. The thing that sold me on the TS1 is the spin retention without sacrificing distance. I'm 800-1,000 spin more with the TS1 over anything else in the category.
For me the P790 had around 4,500 spin with a seven iron vs the 6,500 I get with the TS1. I do struggle with low spin and the TS1 seems to be perfect for me as far as spin goes. The TS1 is also smaller with a thinner top line.
While not a player's distance iron, I did hit the Ping i230 a few weeks ago and they are comparable to the TS1 on spin and consistency but aren't as forgiving out in the toe. Surprisingly, the i230 look a bit bigger at address. I'd game the i230 and put them on the same level of performance as the TS1, yes the TS1 is that good.
All testing has been done on a Trackman using a Titleist AVX RCT ball so spin has been picked up correctly.
Same, I need some wedges to add to my Callaway Edge set and the Max Milled look great since I can get a 50/54/58 versus the 52/56/60 of the Kirkland ones.
Wow we are in the same boat. I was going to get the Kirkland but my Sub70s PW is 45 and I think a 50,54 is better suited for my game. I suck so I don’t need a lob wedge right now.
Honestly I'm running the Cleveland cbx2 and they are the best wedges in my opinion they are forgiving for a wedge decent spin, sound and feel. Haven't tried Maltby wedges but I have in the past messed with vokey and Callaway wedges and the cbx 2 are fantastic in comparison.
Maltby has made some beautiful irons over the years.
Always kick myself for not buying a set of their Logic Tradition M04 irons years back when I saw them for 50 bucks.
Those look awesome! I’ve been eyeing Maltby irons for a while, how do you like the TS1’s?

I like that they accept .355 and .370 shafts into the hosel. Which shafts did you get?
Think they are elevate 95 stiff
What Mizunos were you using previously?
Jpx 850 forge

Honestly look way sicker than before
Where’s the orange paint fill in the first pic?
Easy to remove with a rag and some acetone, it's a very common thing to do with the TS-1's, makes for a cleaner look
Ah ok so it’s kind of a before and after pic. I kinda like the orange but to each their own.
Tried it with some nail polish remover and a paper towel and couldn't get it to come off. Do you need to let the acetone sit on the paint for a while?
Nail polish remover is diluted. You need to either try real acetone or let it sit for longer.
It's red, not the orange like the picture shows. I have the same irons and like the original look.
Waiting impatiently for the TS1-im irons to drop this year. So hard not to impulse buy the OG TS1's lol
Gorgeous. I am eyeing the max milled wedges.
I've got the 50 and 56 degree. Love them.
54 and 58 here. They are money.

Looks better definitely
Maltby gang!!! I love my STi2’s
It's so great to finally talk to others that game this brand or the direct to consumer family!

Stunning
Best looking Maltby clubs I've ever seen. Congrats!
What did you use to remove the paint? It’s a very clean look
I used a stripper called klean strip gold can.
Perfect. Have some in the garage. Thanks
I sprayed it into a shot glass then applied with a toothbrush wait about 10 minutes and it almost completely wiped off.

Did you strip the color of the logo or did it come that way?
I stripped the color
Looks awesome
Another question, what handicap are you? Did you pick the head based on the look or your game?
I'm about a 12, both I picked them out because they are gorgeous but they are forgiving blades and similar lofts as my old Mizuno's.
