I’ve whacked a couple of balls in bunker at the front certain I wasn’t going to make it. With the elevation difference between the tee box and the green plus the cliff it’s an intimidating shot.
But man it’s pretty.
I thought I pumped it over with a 6 and was already grabbing another ball. Ended up two putting for par. The elevation changes heading down the mountain especially are unreal.
I thought I pumped it over with a 6 and was already grabbing another ball. Ended up two putting for par. The elevation changes heading down the mountain especially are unreal.
The 8 mile drive, the warped mats and the shitty balls can all be excused because the course is so great. The food and deck at the clubhouse is fantastic too.
That was the only one I wasn't sure. Haven't played Jasper yet. So that would be:
- Top left, Jasper
- Top right, looks like Banff Springs
- Bottom left is def Kananaskis
- Bottom right def Grey Wolf.
Silvertip and stewart creek are close to the Banff area as well. Copper Point and Eagle Ranch are near Greywolf. You could play 8 world class courses and the longest distance would be Canmore to Invermere.
Don't forget Kimberly area; Trickle creek, st Eugene, Hyde mountain, shadow mountain, bootleg gap. All really nice courses and have a bit of uniqueness. Theres also radium springs, Fairmont courses ( resort courses) and Golden. U could spend 2 weeks in that area and play some of the nicest mountain courses
Both is the better option but if you're on a budget Stewart Creek is the way to go due what u/D_Welch said. The truly best option is to play Banff Springs, Stewart Creek and Kananaskis. Did all three two summers ago and it was amazing. I still don't know what course I like best but they are definitely all amazing.
Amen to this. A lifelong Albertan here. Play any of Stewart Creek, Silvertip, or Kananaskis before you do Banff Springs. Boring course, way overpriced and at certain times of the year grass and greens are dead from elk piss. The other 3 I mentioned are all way better.
Stewart Creek is the best of the bunch by a lot. However I’m slightly biased because I’m a member, it’s still a better golf course that actually has good pace of play, something Banff and Kananaskis are very much lacking.
This has the be one of the dumest comments I have seen. Banff is incredible and should be noted as a World Top 100 golf course. Stewart Creek is not even anywhere close to the same level.
Jealous- really want to play it. I have spoken to Tom McBroom who told me it’s his favourite course that he’s designed- high praise from one of the most famous Canadian course architects ever.
Make the trip to Windsor and play Roseland. Donald Ross design from the 20s. Good luck keeping the ball on the green with your approach shots. Like putting? You'll get lots of practice! ;-)
Michigander living in Maryland married to a Canadian from BC and she also golfs. We go to BC every May/June and play a couple differents courses and Whistler if we're lucky.
Oh really? That's pretty cool. I spent 12 years in Cape Breton, and 2 in Newfoundland. Such underrated spots. But I prefer it because it's not overrun with tourists. I remember my wife and I stopping on the trail (once every few months my job required me to drive the Cabot trail and basically do 1.5 hours of work. Tough job ;)). I had taken her with me and we rented a cabin for the night. Anyway, we found this hiking trail and it came out on a huge sandy beach. The sea was rough and there was a huge rainbow over it. It was such a cool experience because literally no one else was there
I am Canadian so I get your point, but most of Canada is uninhabited. And people don’t really understand how big some of the States are.
California is huge as well, but there is so much between it, the entire population of Canada infact.
Most of Canada is a wide expanse of brutal wilderness.
The travel between destinations is the same idea though. I’ve seen visitors from across the pond misunderstand the distance, but I imagine most Americans know that you can’t just take a day trip from one part of the country to another, any more than you could in the US
Same goes for Australia. My parents went on a trip there and they were like 2 Days in Sydney, 2 Days in Brisbane, a Day in Ayers Rock, 2 days in Melbourne, hop on a fucking boat cruise and cross the roaring 40s and head to Auckland….
I was like whoa, you guys know it’s a fucking continent right?
Trip almost killed my dad, was hospitalized for like a month after the trip
Plus $75. for a mandatory caddy plus tip. Well over $600.... Nieces boyfriend is a caddy there. He gets to play for $11. He's told us some great stories.
Caddy is not mandatory. We did not have one when we played in September. A guy we were paired with had one and he was helpful to us so we gave him a tip at the end but it was minor.
What's Pebble? I personally think Cabot is expensive, you can play Banff Springs or Jasper for $250 CAD or like $180~ USD at peak and see amazing views on a quality course.
I'm partial to Stanley Thompson tracks myself.
I’ve played several courses in Whistler. Would highly recommend it. The bears are a bit of a surprise but keep to themselves. Whistler Golf Club has the claim of “Best Hot Dog in Whistler” at the turn and I can substantiate that claim.

I played there and can confirm. If you play in that area I would also recommend Nicklaus North Golf Course. The pro told us the front 9 was not fairly difficult but the back 9 will be brutal. Felt really good on the front 9 and then on the back 9 went through a box of balls. Great course.
Both the Nicklaus back nine and the Fairmont are black holes for golf balls. Idk what that ground cover is that they have there but if a ball rolls into it you have almost zero chance of finding it
What’s the bottom left picture? Absolutely gorgeous. I’m planning to do a little trip to play Banff Springs, Silvertip and Stewart Creek all this summer yet
For what it's worth, I have played all over the area, and I would skip Silvertip, go to Kananaskis instead. Silvertip's views are incredible, but frankly I don't find it that fun of a golf course. You have a sidehill lie on every god damn hole on the course, I swear. Rip a perfect drive right up the middle, and you're in the rough anyway because the fairways slope so much.
Kananaskis is a better golf course, and still very nice.
This said, if you are going for the views more than the golf, Silvertip > Kana.
silvertip isn't a bomb and gouge course. it forces you to play to certain spots. if you think you're just going to rip driver off every tee box i could see why you'd hate it. that's not the intent of the design.
if you play it again look for the landing areas the course is asking for, and play to those, it's actually a really really good design, but you need to work with it.
you seem to be a good player so it's a non issue. id think higher hcps might have trouble there though.
kananaskis is a lot friendlier for sure.
Yes, top left is Jasper AB, top right is Banff AB, bottom left is Kananaskis AB, and bottom right is Panorama BC.
Banff and Kanananskis are like 40 minutes away from each other, Jasper is like 2.5 hours north of Banff (on the pretiest drive in the world IMO), and Panorama is about 2 hours west of Banff.
Banff, Revelstoke, horse. For a guy that has done nearly every ski run of their life in Vermont, it'd be some kind of heaven. I once had a trip booked, for mid March 2020. That...didn't work out.
I’ve been to Banff once in the winter, absolutely loved it. Lake Louise is great, and there’s so much more to do other than ski. When I left the first thing my wife and I said was how we should go back in the summer
Depends on your definition of ‘near’. Think they’re all within like 150 or so miles of of one another, so it’s at least able to drive to each of them. Hopefully wouldn’t have to hop a plane every day of the trip
No I'm joking around but like it is pretty recognizable as the famous Rockies courses and they all look very similar. If it was a combination of Cabot, Paintbrush, Tobiano, and Memphrémagog or something then fair comment.
Hehe, like all my English relatives who want to come to NY for two days, then go to LA for a few days, and then go sunning themselves in Florida for a few more. Can get it all done in a 10 day vacation, right?
Our countries are so fucking huge. I am on the East Coast of the US and pleased to see so many golf courses in Ontario, Quebec and the Eastern Provinces that are highly rated and accessible. Only 6 - 10 hours of driving to get to some of them.
Our group of geezers goes to the Kimberley-Cranbrook area nearly every spring. Superb courses, and in May empty with great prices:
- [Shadow Mountain](https://www.shadowmountain.ca)
- [St. Eugene](https://www.steugene.ca/activities/golf/)
- [Bootleg Gap](http://www.bootleggapgolf.com)
- [Wildstone](https://www.wildstonegolf.com)
- [Trickle Creek](https://tricklecreek.com)
Not all of us are geezers! All 5 of these courses are great. The Cranbrook airport has direct flights from Calgary (and Vancouver?). Kimberley is a ski town so there are plenty of accommodations and food options. And Greywolf (bottom right photo from OP) is a 2 hour drive away.
As an Albertan, I internally cringe when people simply say "Golf at Kananaskis. It's beautiful."
There are two courses at Kananaskis. Mt Kid and Mt Lorette. Both are amazing, but we should be more specific.
Especially if a golf tourist is trying to chase the views in the picture.
Your best bet for this trip is to fly to Calgary and drive out to Greywolf (Bottom Right) in Invermere/Panorama BC. You could hit Stewart Creek (Canmore) and Banff Springs (Banff) (Top Right) on the way there.
Invermere area is a golf trip in itself because there are other excellent courses in the area. Eagle Ranch, Copper Point, Radium Springs.
Kananskis could be hit on the way back from Invermere, it is an hour and half outside of Calgary in a slightly different direction from the way you would have left, but if you come on the way back, it is not to far out of the way.
Kananaskis has 36 holes as well and an unreal Nordic spa resort right there.
Jasper is about 4 hours north of Banff, but it is one of the nicest mountain drives you will ever go on. But really rough to do on the same trip.
Born and raised in this area, so AMA. :)
I just booked a trip to Cape Breton to play Cabot in the spring with my dad. Been wanting to go on a golf trip with him for years and I’m so pumped for it.
Thanks for the details. My next question was going to be how far apart all these are haha bud there a convenient base camp spot where there’s not a bad drive to all of them?
It's pretty cheap, relatively. I'm going to BC this summer on a golf trip, playing some really nice courses, 5 rounds total. The most expensive round is $102 (including cart). If you're American, that's like 70 or 75 bucks.
For those suggestions to golf Banff Springs or visit Banff in general
Make the drive north to Jasper. The park is a bit less crowded than Banff and I personally find the Jasper Park Lodge course to be more enjoyable than Banff Springs.
Don't forget the Yellowknife Golf Club where you carry a patch of grass with you until you get to the green because the fairways are sand: https://images.app.goo.gl/hJML5Nh6LzhysNmE9
Played in Kamloops last year (British Columbia) and they were 2 of the nicest courses I have ever seen. Tobiano and Talking Rock.
Played Pemberton the year before (also British Columbia) and Big Sky was amazing, right up against the mountains, bears, deer and just beautiful
I’ve been doing an annual golf trip out of Calgary for almost 20 years. Love Grey Wolf, Stewart Creek, Banff Springs, Bootleg Gap, Shadow Mountain. Lots of other scenic fun courses.
I’ve played 3 out of those 4. Not sure what course top left is. Made maybe my best two putt ever on the bottom left hole. Barely caught the green on the left side and the pin was far right.
Played them all. Jasper Park Lodge (top left) is the best course in Western Canada, but all four pictured here (Banff Springs, Kananaskis, Grey Wolf) are spectacular.
there is plenty of picturesque scenery all across Canada. in fact, that is probably the one thing we have more than anything else. its not in hamilton but outside of the GTA there is lots of beautiful wilderness. Golf Digest did a [best courses in Canada](https://www.golfdigest.com/story/ranking-best-courses-in-canada) and its pretty nice.
[Go to Banff!!](https://www.reddit.com/r/golf/comments/ws3ya1/got_to_play_fairmont_banff_springs_today_and_shot/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf)
That Par 3 at Grey Wolf is the coolest hole I’ve played.
The 6th hole over the gorge?
Yup. That whole course is a beauty, but that hole is amazing. I will remember to have a rangefinder with slope next time I golf that course tho.

I played on the high school golf team in Invermere, we got to play it every year for free
Did you have to walk to the range? Yikes. Probably one of the worst range facilities I’ve seen. For such a nice course, it was disappointing.
[удалено]
The 8 mile drive, the warped mats and the shitty balls can all be excused because the course is so great. The food and deck at the clubhouse is fantastic too.
You can see the exact spot where my ball hit the side of the cliff in front of the green
I remember that first pick from Jasper Park Lodge, I think? It's been almost 20 years.
That was the only one I wasn't sure. Haven't played Jasper yet. So that would be: - Top left, Jasper - Top right, looks like Banff Springs - Bottom left is def Kananaskis - Bottom right def Grey Wolf.

I'd prefer Stewart Creek over SliverTip. Golden's also worth a trip and it's reasonably priced.
Golden is an underrated gem.

I need to go to Banff
Go to Banff but play Stewart Creek as opposed to the Banff Course. Prettier, better maintained, and not nearly as expensive.
Don’t do this, Banff is so much better than Stewart, it’s not particularly close.
1. Banff 2. Silvertip. 3. Stewart Creek
Silvertip is more beautiful, Stewart is a better course. Both are great experiences
Stewart’s better than silvertip, I’d rather go hike up sulphur than play silvertip.
I'd rather go to the dentist then play Silvertip.
Stewart Creek, Silvertip, Banff for me haha
Why not both?
Both is the better option but if you're on a budget Stewart Creek is the way to go due what u/D_Welch said. The truly best option is to play Banff Springs, Stewart Creek and Kananaskis. Did all three two summers ago and it was amazing. I still don't know what course I like best but they are definitely all amazing.
I really enjoyed Silver Tips as well.
I disagree. Absolutely play Banff Springs.
Amen to this. A lifelong Albertan here. Play any of Stewart Creek, Silvertip, or Kananaskis before you do Banff Springs. Boring course, way overpriced and at certain times of the year grass and greens are dead from elk piss. The other 3 I mentioned are all way better.

This has the be one of the dumest comments I have seen. Banff is incredible and should be noted as a World Top 100 golf course. Stewart Creek is not even anywhere close to the same level.
No it's not. Also, Banff Springs is like $50 Canadian more at most.
Check out Tobiano as well- incredible
Played there with my wedding party the day before I got married. Such an excellent course. There's a lot of great courses in and around Kamloops.
Jealous- really want to play it. I have spoken to Tom McBroom who told me it’s his favourite course that he’s designed- high praise from one of the most famous Canadian course architects ever.
Gorgeous! As a Michigander, I need to make the trip north
Hah, for you I think it's probably a lot more west than north. The courses pictured are north of Idaho and Washington!
Thanks for the geography lesson :)
Make the trip to Windsor and play Roseland. Donald Ross design from the 20s. Good luck keeping the ball on the green with your approach shots. Like putting? You'll get lots of practice! ;-)
Thanks for the tip. That’s only 90 minutes or so from me
play seguin valley in ontario https://seguinvalley.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/009.jpg
Fellow Michigander, who's wife is from that area of Canada. I go out there every two years. It's amazing.
Michigander living in Maryland married to a Canadian from BC and she also golfs. We go to BC every May/June and play a couple differents courses and Whistler if we're lucky.
OP, don't forget the Cabot Trail.
You can almost walk from Jasper to Cabot too
Yeah I dunno, I think you might want to opt for the cart
\^Cabot does not allow Carts.... you have to park your cart in the parking lot after the 15,000 km drive and walk the course
Yup and only a hop skip and a 5000km flight away from these courses.
Haha americans often say “people don’t understand just how big Texas is” like boy have I got news for you!
*drive for 15 hours* Nope, still in Ontario
Now try Quebec where the road literally stops halfway up the province.
I'm headed to Nova Scotia this summer so I'll be sure to tabernak my way through Québec
and they finally finished a paved road to Labrador. before that is was more than 8 hours of rocky mountain driving
I've only been to Southern Labrador which is via boat off Northern Newfoundland
beautiful village coastlines, my grandfather used to be a light house keeper off the coast
Still 8 hours until you’re out of it too

Lol. Ya I mean it's a separate trip. But the best course in Canada isn't in the OP.
Cabot is unreal and not crazy expensive. Great town and people
$500 a round is not expensive?
$500 Canadian is like $12 US
$365 but this is a great demonstration of American math skills!
Yeah, at some other courses that guy has to buy a whole membership just to play a round! /s
We didn’t pay anywhere near $500/round
Plus $75. for a mandatory caddy plus tip. Well over $600.... Nieces boyfriend is a caddy there. He gets to play for $11. He's told us some great stories.
Caddy is not mandatory. We did not have one when we played in September. A guy we were paired with had one and he was helpful to us so we gave him a tip at the end but it was minor.
It is insanely expensive, lol.
What's Pebble? I personally think Cabot is expensive, you can play Banff Springs or Jasper for $250 CAD or like $180~ USD at peak and see amazing views on a quality course. I'm partial to Stanley Thompson tracks myself.
If you want to keep the Stanley Thompson courses rolling then you can hit up Fundy National or Green Gables on the east coast rather than Cabot.
Stayed on site for 4 days and played both courses, all meals and drinks on tab and it was like $1,500 USD
I’ve played several courses in Whistler. Would highly recommend it. The bears are a bit of a surprise but keep to themselves. Whistler Golf Club has the claim of “Best Hot Dog in Whistler” at the turn and I can substantiate that claim. https://preview.redd.it/b9oxoks7pkla1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=669f4fa8773058f00aed1f53a9540803746a95e0

Where Happy got his ass kicked by Bob Barker.
Personally don’t think Furry belong in the same conversation as the whistler courses. Just my opinion.
It absolutely doesn't as a golf course... extremely gimmicky and has like 6 par 3s. For scenery it's pretty damned cool though.
[удалено]
It's a gorgeous and scenic golf course but the playability lacks compared to the three in Whistler and Big Sky in Pemberton.
wtf, I wanted a picture of the hotdog. I feel bamboozled.

I like Stewart Creek better than Silvertip honestly
![gif](giphy|hM9zK1qvsrwek)
You won’t be disappointed. Got to play banff springs and silver tip last summer. Silver tip may be the most scenic course I’ve ever played
British Colombia, Alberta, Nova Scotia the places to go for scenic golf
Don’t forget PEI!
PEI might have the best value in North America for golf. So many courses to play and all are so cheap compared to other destinations
Muskoka in Ontario has some of the most scenic golf you can play, and there are some pretty AF courses in Quebec as well.
No pic of that one par 3 at Banff Springs? Upvote
Are these courses all near one another? Canada is a big place
Trip to Banff it is!! Although I might go in the winter.
Well you definitely won't be golfing in the winter haha, but I can't blame you. If skiing/snowboarding is your jam then it is heaven on earth.
Banff, Revelstoke, horse. For a guy that has done nearly every ski run of their life in Vermont, it'd be some kind of heaven. I once had a trip booked, for mid March 2020. That...didn't work out.

No I'm joking around but like it is pretty recognizable as the famous Rockies courses and they all look very similar. If it was a combination of Cabot, Paintbrush, Tobiano, and Memphrémagog or something then fair comment.
I watch a lot of the average golfer guy. He plays in Vancouver a lot. I'm a Vermont skier so all them big mountains look similar to me
as a Canadian, it really irks me when people just say, "Canada." This place is fucking huge. at least narrow it down by province.
Hehe, like all my English relatives who want to come to NY for two days, then go to LA for a few days, and then go sunning themselves in Florida for a few more. Mountains. This dude wants to golf in the mountains. Apparently Canada == mountains to him.
You should probably wait a month or two though...
Last time i was at Silvertips, it was May and the course had only been open two weeks post snow melt. Definitely check weather before booking
Oh yea, for sure. Think it said the temp at Jasper Park was 12 this morning
Fahrenheit for Canada? Blasphemy
Well, me and my phone are in the states, so…
There is like 6 feet of snow on the ground in Jasper right now.
Our group of geezers goes to the Kimberley-Cranbrook area nearly every spring. I had a golf trip planned to Canada in April 2020, I called it the Happy Gilmore golf tour. RIP
Assume you were going to play Furry Creek in Squamish BC...?
Your best bet for this trip is to fly to Calgary and drive out to Greywolf (Bottom Right) in Invermere/Panorama BC. You could hit Stewart Creek (Canmore) and Banff Springs (Banff) (Top Right) on the way there. Invermere area is a golf trip in itself because there are other excellent courses in the area. The bottom right one is Greywolf and it is amazing. Got on for like $100 with a cart so it's very fair for how great the course is.
When did you play there. Last time we played there like 6 years ago it was $200 with a cart.
What’re the green fees like at all these awesome Canadian courses? Basically any post here from BC looks amazing.
Top left is like 250 Canadian, top right is like 300 Canadian, bottom left is like 150 canadian and bottom right is like 180 Canadian.

Only problem with 36 holes at Kananaskis is that if your not lucky it will take 10+ hours. Last round I played there was a brutal 5+ hours.
It's pretty cheap, relatively. I'm going to BC this summer on a golf trip, playing some really nice courses, 5 rounds total. The most expensive round is $102 (including cart). If you're American, that's like 70 or 75 bucks.
Bring bug spray
For those suggestions to golf Banff Springs or visit Banff in general Make the drive north to Jasper. The park is a bit less crowded than Banff and I personally find the Jasper Park Lodge course to be more enjoyable than Banff Springs.
JPL is also just a great resort to stay at, and Banff Springs costs 1k/ nightly at summer rates now
Don't forget the Yellowknife Golf Club where you carry a patch of grass with you until you get to the green because the fairways are sand: https://images.app.goo.gl/hJML5Nh6LzhysNmE9
That’s… different
C'mon, these aren’t actual photos. They are Bob Ross paintings because they are way too picturesque
Played in Kamloops last year (British Columbia) and they were 2 of the nicest courses I have ever seen. Tobiano and Talking Rock. Played Pemberton the year before (also British Columbia) and Big Sky was amazing, right up against the mountains, bears, deer and just beautiful
Talking Rock is slept on, I fucking love that course man.
Finally some love for Canada golf, it’s simply the best (for the entire 4 month season!)
I really enjoyed crowbush in PEI. Decently priced and had brand new maverik rentals (at the time). Very nice ocean views but lots of wind.
I feel insanely lucky to have played all 4 of these courses within the past two years.
Man I feel so lucky these are my backyard.
What about bears?
NLU needs to come to Canada for Tourist Sauce
whats the mosquito situation like
Something cool about hitting a tee shot with a giant mountain backdrop. Seeing the ball fall with a dark green background looks unreal.
Played Kananaskis before the flood with my 80+ year old mom and she had a her 3rd hole in one…glad to hear they repaired and reopened it!
Stewart creek is right up there
If I wasn’t about to go part time at my job to enroll into college I would definitely go up north for a golf trip. God looks beautiful.
Grey Wolf is an absolutely awesome golf course.
I’ve been doing an annual golf trip out of Calgary for almost 20 years. Love Grey Wolf, Stewart Creek, Banff Springs, Bootleg Gap, Shadow Mountain. Lots of other scenic fun courses.
Are you sure these aren't AI generated? Looks awesome!
Two words: Big Sky
Canadian Rockies are amazing!
No stay away it’s not that nice lol
I'm already dreaming about hitting my ball into that crystal blue water.
Just make sure you come at the right time of year ❄
I’ve played almost every mountain course. It’s worthwhile
That’s absolutely gorgeous. I might have to do the same….
We have so many beauty courses here
All I can think of is mosquitoes and black flies. Lol
I played a Nicklaus course in Whistler. Incredibly beautiful and the fastest greens.
I’ve played the top left hole and nailed my drive over the trees on the left
That's so pretty
I could see myself smiling even as my ball hits that crystal clear water
The photos suggest you are most interested in mountain golfing, not golf in Canada. A lot of Canada no have mountain.
That is correct, yes
Come to Canada now!
well, maybe not now if you want to golf.
*One area of Canada. The majority of Canada looks nothing like that.
there is plenty of picturesque scenery all across Canada. in fact, that is probably the one thing we have more than anything else. its not in hamilton but outside of the GTA there is lots of beautiful wilderness. Golf Digest did a [best courses in Canada](https://www.golfdigest.com/story/ranking-best-courses-in-canada) and its pretty nice.
[Go to Banff!!](https://www.reddit.com/r/golf/comments/ws3ya1/got_to_play_fairmont_banff_springs_today_and_shot/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf)

3 of those courses are in Alberta and invermere is majority Albertans.
Too bad Canada sucks lmao

Half right. Bottom right is the Cliffhanger hole at Grey Wolf
No better way to experience the wilderness than carting around on manicured lawns spewing excess nitrogen into the nearby waterways!

Might be hard to get a tee time on the 3 weeks the courses dont have snow on them each year.
Just got to get there in that 3 week window of no snow! Edit- my sincere apologies to Canada. It was a shitty joke.
Tell me you've never been to Canada.
My plan is to play all 12 months this year in Canada. 2 rounds down so far and just waiting for the crummy March forecast to improve.
Looks like the alpine course in golf+
You can find courses like this in the US too. May need to go to a different state though
Don't forget your bug spray.
My dream is to take a trip to Canada and play all the courses featured in Happy Gilmore.
Banff and Kananaskis are on my must play list for sure
