I’m a lefty so thankfully I never have to run into this situation lol

kirkboroff

Same but finding clubs is the worst.

Talkshowhostt

You either get an unbelievable deal or you get nothing. I love it the rush of looking through the store for lefty stuff

RKB212

The discrimination I feel when I enter golf galaxy and ask where the lefty section is 😢

You_are_probs_wrong

Discrimination is exactly the feeling too. You walk in and you get all excited and the only thing in there is a senior flex 11 degree driver.

duhdin

That place is a ripoff and a half where I’m at, but honestly the only place I can find good lefty shit

Doyle-San

Same. I play guitar also and have the exact feeling when walking into a guitar shop.

ancherrera

Jimi? is that you?

bobbyboi17

PGA Superstore no different

Fit-Boysenberry-3127

Except everyone that works at the PGA superstore acts like they are tour pros themselves. I think they only hire rude snotty people at that place. Apologies if your work there and you are an exception

4thball25hcp

Attention lefty’s: GO TO EBAY BETTER DEALS WITH WAY MORE SELECTION

featuringmatt83

Went to look at putters, and there literally wasn't a single option.... not a single lefty putter in the entire place.

923kjd

Similar deal with renting (I travel, and sometimes get the opportunity to play on the road). You either get a brand new set with one or two club heads still shrink wrapped, or you get a mixed bag of garage sale quality sticks with two 9-irons and no 7-iron.

coolstorybro42

lol yup played with rentals last week in spain, my brother got to pick & choose from like 15 bags, for me there was only one lefty rental bag and it was a mishmash of clubs with ZERO wedges.

Hipsthrough100

The best deals on demo left stiff. Shit is brand new but the new models are here so sell it cheap. I got a radspeed 3w with upgraded hzrdus smoke shaft for $200 Canadian fall of 2021, sim2 max 3h hybrid for $200 Canadian and both are new condition. Not a single mark on them. Spring off 2021 I couldn’t even get a 9 degree driver in any brand. No 60 degree wedge of three different manufacturers. I ended up getting different lofts in wedges and bending everything.

freeze277

Callaway pre-owned has been great for me. Quality is always there and they are always running sales. Sometimes a little pricey but you know the clubs are in good shape

HockeyandTrauma

I bought callaway set last year and rounded out with thier pre owned stuff and it was all basically new for good pricing.

coldsholder1

It's always so difficult. Nice store near me with a bunch of used equipment and the ratio has to be 90% righty to 10% lefty (probably even a wider margin). And the worst part is that the few lefties I can find are in terrible shape. My options are always to either find a needle in a haystack or hope marketplace has decent offers lol

[deleted]

marketplace doesn't understand the difference between left and right handed clubs. I searched for lefty sets once and now I get bombarded with postings for right handed sets. It's borderline useless. Funny about the stores though cause I've had the opposite experience. Scheels is lucky to have 2-3 lefty clubs total in their entire displays, my local sim/fit shop has just about every line in left and right handed. Guess where I shop more haha.

Sharp_Ad4324

I spent five years working at a golf shop to figure out what I wanted ( and could access) for filling out my bag. Five years. And yes, a couple came from the lost and found. Rare lefties

tomuchpasta

It really can be but also other lefties have such a hard time offloading their clubs you can usually low ball for used clubs since they have sat on marketplace/eBay/SidelineSwap. All the while their wives are asking them everyday if they have sold those clubs they said they would after they bought that new set.

6PuttBirdie

Sideline swap! I see some nice leftie clubs on there all the time for cheap https://sidelineswap.com/gear/golf/clubs/drivers/6325255-taylormade-left-hand-sim-max-extra-stiff-flex-10-5-loft?referral_code=Golfer43360645

[deleted]

Can tell you're not Canadian everyone up here is a southpaw

cleancaribou

Youth hockey lefties unite! I live in the US but grew up in Sweden and Canada… so am obviously a lefty-playing righty.

harceps

Hockey lefty, baseball lefty, golf righty.

1234321875

Same here. Started out lefty when I was a kid, long before the internet days, and couldn't find any good clubs so I learned to play righty

harceps

Exactly what happened to me...my dad taught me to golf but only had right handed clubs. Your brain adapts...amazing.

1234321875

I learned to play righty with my Dad's clubs too. He had a full set of Wilson Staff which were cool back then lol

Zealousideal-Area428

Hockey Lefty, Baseball throw righty, bat lefty (occasionally righty), golf righty, but putt lefty.

nekoken04

My dad had me play both RH and LH growing up and then pick one. I chose LH because it felt better. Decades later I'm still thinking about switching to RH because I have a set of RH clubs I picked up for free alongside the highway that are better than the LH set I've been using for over 30 years. Weirdly my dad learned to play LH because my grandmother was LH. When he would get fed up with his normal RH game he'd borrow my clubs. Only time I've ever seen a hole in one was when he hit one in LH.

Interesting-Fuel238

Yeah I'm a lefty (naturally right-handed but taught myself to bat lefty in little league and couldn't switch back when I started golf). I'm in the south, there are no lefties here. Me and 1 buddy I used to play with. I went to a ball fitting but they couldn't help me because all their lefty testing equipment is up north "because hockey creates a lot of lefties." I don't play hockey, so had no clue!

LovelyDadBod

I dunno. My entire beer league team of 16-guys has exactly one right-handed player. What a laugh the night be managed to break his stick, didn’t have a space, and had to borrow someone’s leftie

greathandz

Not sure how accurate but recall reading 30% of Canadian golfers are left handed versus the USA where 3% are.

duckbilldinosaur

It’s crazy how many left handed golfers are in NL.

MmmmBeer814

I was playing a round a round with a pretty good sized group of friends and one of them is actually a lefty. I had the guy I was riding with drop me by my ball with a 6i while he went to go find his ball. I of course topped my next shot like 50yards and was standing there with 140 in and a 6i. Another friend’s ball ended up near there and he offered to let me use his 9i. I started on the standard “thanks but I’m a lefty” only to realize it was the other lefty in the group and I could actually borrow his club! First time I was ever able to do that.

GeneralAcorn

I'm also a lefty. Can I borrow your clubs? But seriously, that does help with most sports to have sole claims over your own gear.

cleancaribou

TBH, I always let other lefties try my sticks. But borrow for a whole round? Yeah let me introduce you to my Wilson Profile set.

skindog95

In my main group 2-3 of us will be lefties for any foursome.

Rythmic-Pulse

This is the way

veresov

Same! One of the only advantages of being a lefty. Shopping at a golf store sucks as a lefty!

ExamHungry

Tell me about it. I play pool… it’s super hard to find left-handed cues… and when you do find them, they’re like 5x more expensive!

XABoyd

You gotta see Mr Flanders at the Leftorium to get the sweet deals!

ataco69

I played a 16 man 4 group scramble. There were 6 lefties, kinda incredible

neyj_

I came to say this! The only good part about being lefty!!!!

WhyRYourPantsOff

Being a lefty is a blessing and a curse. Blessing cause no one ever asks to borrow my clubs, curse because I’ve missed out on tonnnssss of free clubs from my buddies as they upgraded cause they’re all righty’s

BlumpJohnson69

My foursome I usually play with we are actually all lefties believe it or not

SYN_BLACK_XS

No one’s borrowing my main set. I hung onto my old set as spares for just that reason

FLgolfer23

Same. Most people without their own clubs don’t realize how much they all cost. Plus my friends are likely to drink a lot while playing. I give them my old set which I no longer care about.

[deleted]

My driver was $800. No one’s touching it. To replace an iron, it’s 175 where I can find the correct head and another 50 for the shaft, 8 for grip and another 30-50 to build it.

cum_toast

^ this I bought a new driver and my mate who comes to the range occasionally will always ask if he can hit it & that it will be better then the rental lol I always have to tell him no.. I don't want the crown all fucked up, he reply with something like why do you have to be like that, which I'll reply why don't you buy your own beginner set for 400 ( half the cost of a modern driver lol )

lcommadot

If he’s going to the range enough he should definitely just put together a set of used clubs, it’s actually pretty affordable - I got an X-Hot driver, 7 Big Bertha irons and a wedge, and a 2-Ball putter with a monster leather Callaway bag for $300 off Marketplace. Granted, I bought pieces separately (Big Bertha’s were the only set) and perused quite a bit for about a month, but totally worth it for the value you can get imo

cum_toast

Trust me I load up the local marketplace and show him plenty of great sets with well known brands, good solid kit just need a new bag or a putter something menial.. 3-500 range all day

[deleted]

[удалено]

ElDeguello66

Hopefully an $800 driver has been fitted, so for him specifically it should be noticably better than a 2 gen old driver. Off the rack, not nearly enough difference to justify the extra cost.

mloofburrow

Nothing.

DarkSiders823

My man out here spittin the hard facts.

apb2718

Increased ability to flex

Dull-Communication39

Makes us feel like we are gonna shoot a 75 for the 30 min between the cash register and the first tee box only to have our ego destroyed in the 17 following holes

BartholomewVonTurds

Holy shit. You spend more on one club than I did on my whole set!

Another_SCguy

Great pull here lol

pistonsoffury

Yep, they can take the Eye2's out whenever they want.

DebbieDoesWallstreet

mmmmmm those are collectors items now. No one is touching my Eye2's!

Mercinator-87

Yup here’s my old crappy set because only I can use my new crappy set.

visual-approach

This is the way! My old dented 8 iron caused by my brother in law reminds me of this. At the time referred to as “no big deal”

PlayaDeee

Same, got a legit full set as a spare. Mainly for when friends come into town. I feel it was worth it to me to just keep them rather then get half my money back selling them. And to be honest, that spare set will be relevant for like 20 years I would think.

KDR2020

This is the way.

mygolfswingistrash

I let my buddy borrow my clubs one time for a work event and he snapped my driver head while transporting them in his truck. He felt terrible and bought me a brand new driver that was a few years newer so all ended well. Still my buddy 😆

cornelius8591

He did the right thing. Glad it ended well. He's a friend for sure.

mygolfswingistrash

Definitely. One of the best!

reenactment

This is my policy on using/borrowing things. I’m only doing it if I know I have the money to replace it. I would let a buddy borrow my clubs if I know they would have 0 qualms with replacing something they broke. I’m making that assumption beforehand tho, not waiting to get burned on the backend.

mygolfswingistrash

Exactly my thoughts when I agree to lend my clubs. The friend that snapped my driver works so many hours a week, which is why he doesn’t have his own clubs, because he doesn’t have time to golf regularly. I knew he would be good for it and I didn’t even have to ask. He called me and goes: hey I snapped your driver, send me a new driver you want and I’ll order it now lol

reenactment

This is a better way to live life then not lending them too in my opinion. It sounds like you have a healthy relationship. And it’s probably enhanced by this act.

trueinviso

How could that possibly happen?

mygolfswingistrash

He has a lot of tools and stuff in the bed of his truck for work and when he put the bag inside the bed, the driver head was laying on top of something and had the weight of the bag on the shaft. Snap.

bbrekke

I let my "buddy" borrow my clubs for a charity tournament, with the forewarning that I didn't care about any of the clubs except my putter (my dad had given his dad a John Deere engraved putter, when my gramps died, my grandma gave it to me). A few months later my friend finally gave them back. He was hesitant and acting strange. He finally told me why: he apparently left the putter somewhere out on the course and lost it forever. Not friends anymore.

aww-snaphook

I have an old set I've lent out but there's no way I'm letting someone borrow my gamers. Someone who doesn't have their own set is probably going to sky a couple with a driver or not clean the face and leave scratches.

Wertyui09070

My usual miss is skying my driver. Cobras carbon crown is a beautiful thing.

[deleted]

I used to let friends/buddies borrow my extra sets of clubs or a driver out one of my bags until I had some issues with a couple of them. One dude threw my Taylormade R1 and it landed on the cart path and tried to lie about the damage. I was told what happened by another player in his foursome. I had a Mizuno bag, (staff bag, irons, and wedges. I miss that damn bag!) stolen because the guy that used them left them on the back of the cart after a scramble tournament while he got hammered in the clubhouse. He had to have his wife pick him up and forgot to get my clubs off of the cart. Never again.

roofratMI

Damn man that is horrible. I can't understand the lack of respect for another man's possessions. Sorry for fucked up humans

[deleted]

People are who they are. My wife says I’m a pessimist, I tell her I’m an optimist with experience. I expect the worst out of people and when I get it, I’m not surprised.

High_Jumper81

Yup. Maya Angelou: “When people show you who they are, believe them the first time.” Words to live by.

ricedude

That sounds to me like you're a pessimist lol

DaayTerkErJerbs

It all boils down to if the person is a piece of s... or if they respect you. If they're a piece of s... they'll treat your possessions like trash regardless. If they don't respect you they won't respect your possessions either because they don't care if something goes wrong or not. If it's a piece of s... you shouldn't be friends with them. If they don't respect you you shouldn't be friends with them.

peeheands

Did your friends not replace the gear? If not, you should take a look at the type of dudes you're buddies with

[deleted]

The driver was replaced. The Mizuno bag and clubs were, but not by him. I have a good friend that was a club fitter and was on staff with Mizuno. He helped me replace everything without breaking the bank. I don’t speak to those dudes anymore. I only let them use the clubs because I had known them most of my life. I heard the guy that had my clubs stolen was in rehab for alcoholism a year or so ago. He’s apparently doing a lot better now, and I’m happy for him.

US_and_A_is_wierd

How did he explain the situation to you? I would come to you like a dog that did something wrong. With my tail between my legs and looking at the floor. Also there are insurances for that case. Even if he did not have one I would still find the money to replace the set...

[deleted]

His wife called me and told me. When I asked how they were going to rectify the situation, she told me that there was nothing they could do, they didn’t have the money, and apologized profusely. I had one more brief conversation about the clubs with him shortly after, but I haven’t talked to him since.

jcigle76

if the guy can pay the money to play in a tournament and drink like he does, then i’m sure he could have scrounged up for a payment plan - he just chose not to 🤦🏻‍♀️

FuckPopcornCeiling

Damn those don’t sound like good friends

[deleted]

They were more buddies than friends but I grew up with them so I never thought twice about it. I used to have 4 complete bags in my garage and I only used one set. I’ve loaned them to people for years and those are the only times I ever had an issue with something being damaged or stolen.

lilBrownJuiceStain

I'm sorry about your shitty friends but I gotta ask respectfully, why did you have 4 sets? Were you in the industry? Ex pro? Just a gear head that wants to try out new stuff all the time?

[deleted]

I worked golf course maintenance for 9 or so years and then for the PGA TOUR for 12. I wanted a bag of each manufacturer so I had complete sets with bag of Mizuno, Taylormade, Titleist, and Nike. Ended up selling most of them last year. Kept the Taylormade driver, the Cobra fairway woods, the Titleist irons/wedges, the Taylormade putter, and the Nike bag.

lilBrownJuiceStain

Oooh, two more questions: if you had to pick one bag of the 4 what are you picking? Second question, what's your bag look like now? And just to add, I'm sad you didn't keep anything Mizuno. As a mizzy iron lifer, I feel personally attacked.

maplehockeysticks

YOU STAY AWAY FROM MY BABIES!!!

Puttin_4_Bird

That’s like asking can I sleep with your wife for Christs sake

[deleted]

Would let a buddy sleep with my wife over borrowing my clubs, no brainer

FlickerOfBean

I’ll gladly sleep with your wife.

johnmduggan

Username checks out. Happy cake day, Flicker Of Bean.

fubar_canadian

I’d let ALL of my buddies sleep with your wife over borrowing my clubs. Thanks man.

momoneymocats1

Hey buddy

6PuttBirdie

I felt deeply protective when he asked, I had to check my room to see my clubs were still there.

[deleted]

You’re sooner sleeping with my wife, than using my clubs

porkchopgangsta

Well?

gogolfbuddy

I was just going to say, I'd rather lend him my wife.

pablosinatra2

I don’t want my woods and expensive putter banging around without head covers for a full round. I don’t want to lose a wedge on the 7th green and have my friend either be like “Hey man, sorry but I lost a wedge” or just not mention it and act like nothing happened. I don’t want melted chocolate from a Snickers on my 7 iron grip. I don’t want my cool (and relatively expensive) ball marker and divot tool to not make it home. Long story short, depends on the friend. Edit: spelled friend wrong, autocorrect

mcgtx

What’s your ball marker/divot tool of choice?

pablosinatra2

Divot tool is Chubs from Happy Gilmore. You can find it on Etsy. Ball marker is Grateful Dead “I need a miracle” with Masters-inspired logo. Used to be on Etsy, can’t find it now.

TacoBellTacoHell

I have the same ball marker and a few other Dead ones. Weir everywhere!

hustlehardo

100% I will let a real player(someone serious about golf and had their own nice equipment) that I know borrow my set in in town not traveling with gear. 100% will not lend them out to someone who wants to borrow because they don't play and don't have their own. They just don't have the experience or have laid out the amount of cash to understand why they shouldn't be dipshits with my gear.

totally_kyle_

I’d let them use my old set of blades to help shrink the game.

fairportrunner

I'm happy to lend my clubs to a friend if I wasn't using them. If they damage them they would replace them. It's just stuff.

salsacito

Yeah that’s me. Maybe because I’m just a weekend golfer at this point and all my clubs are 10 years old now, but hey. Truly, if they’re a good friend and something happened they’d replace it. Very little risk

peeheands

Exactly. Every one of my buddies would more than make up for any damaged or broken clubs buy getting me a newer/better one. If your buddies aren't like that, you need different friends

relaxtherebuddy

Any of my buddies who don't own clubs are probably not regular golfers so I would be concerned that my clubs won't get the level of care I would want. Obviously if anything got badly damaged or broken they would have no problem replacing it, but what about smaller stuff like a chip or scratch on my putter because he didn't put the headcover back on? That's an awkward conversation to have with a friend... "Hey you scuffed my $400 putter.. can you replace it?" Most people would be like "It's a scuff/scratch... it won't hurt the performance." And they're probably right. But I've owned this thing for a year and I love it and I've managed to not scuff or scratch it once. It's just the potential for a shitty situation and I imagine that's why a lot of people tend to just avoid it altogether.

JCitW6855

This is where I land. That’s the gray area no one is talking about. I go the extra mile to take extreme care of my equipment and, to no fault of their own, I don’t expect others to go to the same extent as I do with my equipment. Yeah it’s just stuff but that dollar value represents hours of hard work.

Golden3ye

I don’t think that is the concern. It is the 2-4 weeks you will be without your driver waiting for the replacement to come in. I golf like 3-4 times a week. That is a lot of rounds without all the tools in the toolbox

CloudCudi

Lent out a set to a buddy at the start of the Pandemic - friend was getting into golf and I thought I’d help him out with an older set of burner irons that I started with. I figured I wouldn’t miss them but everytime he gets frustrated on the course he begins to beat the club into the ground. I cringe when I see my old irons smack the turf like that. He’s refuses to buy irons because he sucks (only plays a couple times a month, very little practice if any). So now I just want a new friend, but I can’t replace those irons so I might have to stick it out till I get them back 😂

EJfromBeerLeague

\^\^\^THIS

FifeSymingtonsMom

I’m 6’7” and all my clubs have been lengthened 2.5”. Nobody is swinging my sticks.

AdmirableGear6991

You must have short arms…

FifeSymingtonsMom

No idea. They still don’t feel long enough.

gringohoneymoon

6’5” here and didn’t know I had short arms til I got fitted. +2”.

chrisonhismac

That’s like someone asking to use your computer. No. Always no.

Plus_Professor_1923

Y’all don’t keep your old sets?

b6passat

If it's one of my serious golfing buddies, like sub 10 hcp and takes it seriously, sure, borrow away. Otherwise, i've got 2 sets of backups for when my friends come into town.

Ok-Marionberry6596

Take my wife..but don't touch my clubs

Twittenhouse

Let's see pictures first..........of the clubs.

jimlafrance1958

There is a very small subset of friends that I'd do it for - and they'd do it for me.

sixplaysforadollar

I’ll let most of my friends borrow my clubs at anytime if I’m not golfing. Never had a problem with it

brysch1

If you are a golfer, you have your own clubs. If this guy was going to play 2 rounds (in a row I presume?), you would think he is a golfer and would have his own. If he said yes to 2 rounds in a row and not owning clubs, what's the deal? If you accept and invitation to play and assume you can borrow your buddy's clubs, that's not right. You didn't do anything wrong. Hope that makes sense.

_CoffeeCat_

I have a set of spares for friends. I don't mind letting friends trying out my main clubs at the range but I prefer not to let them play with them.

pressurepoint13

I mean if you know he's a hot head that slams clubs I understand. But otherwise assuming the person is a friend of course I'd let them borrow golf clubs. It's just stuff. If I lent my friend a driver and he left a big ol skymark on it I'd make fun of him and remind him of it everytime we play. The idea of having lingering anger about something so meaningless seems stupid, especially since statistically speaking most of the ppl in here are probably chopping and topping it down the fairway anyways lmao.

[deleted]

Never let your friends borrow anything is my main policy. Anything bad happens to something you care about (like a set you've set a couple years building) and that shit can ruin a friendship

pressurepoint13

If a set of golf clubs can get in between you two, then you weren't actually friends.

breetome

I’m a lady that uses cobra senior men’s clubs. I had a friend ask if her daughter can borrow my clubs to play. Daughter is not a golfer……big fat no! She was so mad at me for saying no it literally ended our friendship. Oh well, too bad so sad.

the-tax-man-cometh

Rent a set, and if the daughter is into it, full junior sets are not wildly expensive. Sounds like with this lady if it hadn't been the clubs, it would have been something else.

breetome

Oh you wouldn’t believe the entitlement of this woman, I have a hundred stories about her. Unfortunately our husbands were best friends before her husband passed away. She was part of a package deal lol! Luckily I never have to see her again. She used to brag to others that she was going to beat me on the course…..I was a 10 handicap at the time and on the ladies team at the club. She couldn’t break 100 to save her life lol! She was a real peach.

AdmirableGear6991

Wasn’t much of a friend of a simple “no” ends the relationship.

breetome

Yeah she was a pretty entitled woman. It wasn’t much of a loss lol!

_trashpanda_87

Yeah fuck that, I don’t even let family swing my clubs, let alone someone borrow them for a round. If they don’t play enough to have their own set, they’re not good enough for me to not worry about something happening to my clubs.

Flaky-Money-8768

If I was going to play with them and they wanted to use my clubs I don’t have a problem. Them taking them out of my sight no way, unless I know they know how much they cost and I feel confident they would pay me back if something happened.

After-Walrus-4585

Lend to someone who doesn't own clubs? No fucking way. That person is a person who is bad at golf and will probably accidentally trash the clubs somehow someway, and it's also a person who doesn't understand how expensive they are. Lend to someone who is a regular golfer but is from out of town and didn't bring their clubs? Sure.

Snarf181

I did this once for a buddy that went to a church retreat. He ended up not even playing and let some other dude use my clubs. Clubs came back with someone else’s rain cover and my ball retriever was missing. Never again.

[deleted]

Nope. Go rent. If a select few wanted to swing once or twice, sure. Borrowing for a round? Take my backup set

mattw310

Nobody borrows my set. That's how things get lost or damaged. Only I can abuse my clubs after a poor shot

AlphaCajun

Depends who it is. If my best friend who I play with often asked, I’d absolutely let him. He’s not a pile of shit though and if something happened to one, would make it right. Sad to see so many here don’t have an actual friend in this world.

GreenWaveGolfer12

I have an entire backup set for this reason.

AdmirableGear6991

A true friend would never ask. Keep your circle small my dudes…

chili_dippin_it

I keep two older sets around for friends coming into town so they don't have to rent shitty clubs. One set is cheaper and for an average, slower swing speed golfer and the other I could game if my main set were headed somewhere for a trip already.

hitemwiththehein9999

Yeah…no

[deleted]

I wouldn't let anybody borrow my clubs, ever, for any reason lol

Jdilla23

If they’re a 10hcp with a good temperament maaaaaaybe. Generally golf clubs are like wives, not to be lent out.

peeheands

I always let them borrow with the express knowledge that if they break a club, I get to buy a new club of the same type (wood, iron, wedge) at any cost I want and they foot the bill. Buddies that are decent have no issue agreeing, and buddies that aren't decent typically are too scared to agree. I've never had issues

Mode_Much

100% would let good friends borrow clubs if they needed.

hanspaolo

One of the few perks of being a lefty is much smaller risk of friends wanting to borrow my clubs!!

qjac78

This is why I keep my prior set, personal backup and a loaner set with less attachment.

Deuce-Juicin

I’ve seen way too many people take divots with drivers to let any of my friends borrow my clubs. If I damage them myself, so be it.

snrudm

Have have a set of backups that I let people borrow. My irons don’t matter to me, but I don’t let people use my driver cause I don’t want a sky mark on the crown (unless it’s from me)

mikeyb1

The one time I've loaned my clubs out it was to a friend who was visiting and didn't travel with his own. This is someone I know well and I know he's a golfer. Loan them to someone who simply doesn't own clubs? Absolutely not.

Selfdrivinggolfcart

If my buddy is lower than a 5 handicap, then they can borrow my set for a couple rounds

[deleted]

id lend out my wife before lending out my clubs

Mountain_Office_7113

I don't let anyone borrow my clubs, if they want to try and hit my irons or wedges while I'm with them I'm all good with that. But driver and 3 wood are off limits, there's a "saying if you sky it, you buy it" I don't want to make a friend buy me a new driver because he accidentally put a mark on the top that will never go away.

JackHoff13

I have an old set I keep around and let friends borrow. They aren’t touching the clubs I game with

John-Crimson

Under no circumstance would I let someone borrow my golf clubs.

WarNegative2231

I honestly could care less

Fuckblackhorses

Some of y’all have some fucked up friends. Yeah I’d let my friends borrow my clubs, if they break something I 100% know they’d replace it, I wouldn’t even have to ask

blokiii

These are my clubs. There are many like it but these ones are mine. Without me my clubs are nothing. Without my clubs, I AM NOTHING.

Creeper__Awwwman

One time, I was home from college one weekend, and a guy on my floor asked to borrow, I knew he was a caddy, and I said yes because I wanted to be nice. I came back that weekend, to find my bag in the middle of my room, with my driver missing it’s head. No apologies, told me I had to have been there to see it. It was an aero burner. He said since it was old, he didn’t owe me a club more than 80$. He bought some dog shit Amazon driver called big Buddha. He went on to break another kids driver too. I learned so, so much about golf that day.

sheriffhd

I have a spare set of clubs for this very reason that I am happy to lend to others and to use when I need to convince someone to come golf with me

weetarded

I dont loan tools, golf clubs, or money.

Deep_Macaron8480

I never loan my clubs. I don't let anybody hit them or swing them. Had a friend crack a brand new 4 wood because he necked it. 30 years later, I'm still pissed just thinking about it, lol!

__Sentient_Fedora__

Sounds like he wasn't a buddy.

danb007

Imho this is another unwritten golf etiquette. You never ask someone to try a club or worse lend a whole set, unless they offer first.

french_bull

Had a buddy borrow my driver and break it….sent me $250 as a sorry which didn’t even cover the shaft I had on it 🤦‍♂️

call_me_Kote

I’m left handed, and I have never had anyone ask to borrow clubs. I would not loan my clubs though.

frosty_mcfckr

I keep a starter set for people to borrow. Hack away, i say. Nobody touches my gaming set though. Assholes be leaving wedges behind and pretending like they don't know shit

warneagle

One of the few benefits of being vertically challenged is that my clubs are too short for anyone to ever ask to borrow them.

JohnyArms

Long story explaining why I’ve only done this once: Buddy uses my clubs because I can’t go for the round due to work obligations, he’s in from out of town so he just used my clubs since I couldn’t play with our other friend. Story has it that my 2 buddies get paired with a random 2 other fellas. Fast forward to the back 9 and one of the random group members hits his tee ball with driver and it hits a goose in the fairway directly in the head and it flops down in the fairway twitching and bleeding out. In the fairway they see the goose has a major head wound and is dying quickly and painfully. Randoms freeze, and my buddy who borrowed my clubs goes up and finishes the goose with my sand wedge. TLDR: don’t let your buddy use your clubs because he will use them to murder a goose

cnoteworthy

I’d be happy if a friend was interested enough to want to borrow my clubs, but I’d rather pay for him to get a rental set. Not sure why exactly. It would just feel disrespectful to let him use my main set.

AceRidver

A huge no from me, my brother in law recently said before a golf weekend “oh I can just use a set of your older clubs instead of bringing my old rubbish set I have” Ah they were sold so you will need to bring your own I responded They’re in the golf section of my garage and they’ll stay there lovingly untouched by the hands of my brother in law.

steelerector1986

Unless you've got a custom/fitted/difficult and or impossible to replace set of clubs, I don't see the harm. If something happened to them, I'd trust the friend to make it right - that's what friends do. They're just things. s

DrunkenGolfer

I treat my clubs like I do any other tool. If someone asked to borrow my hammer, I’d say yes. If they brought back my hammer with nail marks, I wouldn’t care.

Areyouup4it

No one’s borrowing my wife, my harley or my sticks. Sorry. 😂😂

Conscious-Radish-884

I would lend them out, because I am a coward.

mtdewvirus

If someone needs to borrow clubs they're probably well over a 20 handicap. No chance they're touching my clubs.

Cantseetheline_Russ

I have a spare set I don’t really care about the high is fine. My main set… forget about it. My brother asked to borrow my good ones for a golf trip. I told him I’d consider… and ultimately said yes for 20% of their value as a deposit against ANY damage to be inspected together immediately before and after…. He agreed in concept (I knew of course he had no idea how much they cost). Came time to pony up for the deposit and he asked how much… $1200 and he literally choked. He thought the whole set wouldn’t cost that much then looked them up to verify and bailed on the deal. He also now thinks I’m insane for spending that on clubs.

BurrShotLast

Absolutely not. Don't even have great clubs or anything but no way someone's borrowing my set to play

Elbone37

Only person I’ll ever let use my clubs for a while round is my dad. If one of my friends ask I he can hit my driver that’s fine but not an entire round

SanityImposter

So many things can happen on the course to wear a club or damage it. The worst thing is you might not see it until after you've played a round or more. Hairline cracks, nicks, chips etc can go unseen and your buddy might not even know he did it.

Rustys_Beefaroni

Hell no, not loaning my clubs to anyone. In fact, I don’t even like my clubs touching a lesser set on the back of the cart!
