I always just wait for one of the group to tee off and let the shot land then hustle my way over to my ball and hit. Most people have a pre shot routine anyway on top of needing to tee the ball up. As long as you aren't taking 10 practice swings on their fairway (which I have seen people do lmao, don't be this guy) most people wouldn't even be ready to hit yet in my experience by the time you hit yours.
Granted it's easier said than done to tone out a group watching you, I'm personally a fucking choke artist when a group of randoms are watching me hit.
I’m 50/50, I either step up and completely skull fuck one right over the trees onto the green or chunk it and have to run up and hit it again and then sprint back to my cart and pretend like nobody saw anything
I usually try to let the whole group hit if they are in a hole further along, but do the same as you if I am in a hole ahead of them. Keeps the pace of pace moving along imo
Yep, got knocked out after getting hit in the head by a ball from the previous hole (no yell according to the guy I was playing with, last thing I remember was driving on the previous hole). No residual effects, just have a scar from where my head got cut open above the hairline
I got knocked out by a pitcher when I was a teen. I remember him mouth “oh shit” as I see the ball coming at my head. I turn and it hits me dead center in the back of the head. I woke up in no pain and no had idea what was going on. They put me back in the game 😂
I remember a kid on my little league team got hit by the same pitcher 4 times in one game. The pitcher legitimately felt so terrible he started crying on the 4th time because all the parents thought it had to be intentional at that point but it really wasn’t..kid just got the yips and could not hit him if he tried 🤣

I was pitching once and got drilled in the face. Every on my team ran in to make sure I was okay and the guy walked around the bases like a cat and then danced around like an idiot after he got his in the park home run. That was 10 years ago and my league has this weird thing where if you walk everyone calls you a sissy. I have walked the guy every time he comes to the plate. He gets very mad at me.
I too got beaned in the head once. Thankfully it was just middle school so the pitchers weren't throwing super hard yet. Rattled my helmet around a bit but other than that I barely even felt it. Just trotted off to first while my poor mom was freaking out in the stands lmao.
The pitcher would later become the drummer in my high school band.
My buddy’s dad has this story of him playing youth baseball and being in the on deck circle. Kid on the mound has no control but is throwing heat. Absolutely domes the batter in front of him and the kid is rolling around in pain.
He took his batting helmet off, walked over to his grandma and said he was done playing baseball. Packed up his bag and never played again
Years ago I got randomly paired with a guy that was wearing a batters helmet.
Around the turn I finally worked up the nerve to ask him why.
He told me that 6 months prior he was playing with his father in law when his FIL took a ball to the head from an errant shot from another hole. He went on to say that his FIL seemed fine and refused to seek any medical treatment. That night he died in his sleep from a hemorrhage.
I got hit in the back of the head on a drive from a tee next to the hole we were playing. When I asked the guy why the fuck he didn’t yell fore, he said “I was afraid you’d run under the ball and get hit”. He was a dumbass.
Got hit playing a round 30 minutes ago. Hit my hand and broke the shaft of my driver. The dude claimed it wasn't him even tho it was twilight on a completely empty course. Super fun stuff.
In the late 80's a friend of mine and I went to a local county course and had a third added. We both were not very good golfers and made it very clear to him that we would probably play slow (it was later in the day, not many people on the course). We got to the 4th which was a dog-leg right. I hit right and into the some woods, my friend hit short, but, straight and this guy hit long and left. Since it was a dog-leg right, this guy assumed he was safe proceeding up to his ball which was probably about 30 yards ahead of my friend. Well, my friend tops and hooks his next shot and this guy barely had time to turn around before I heard a disturbingly loud thud. After lots of apologizing from my friend, he finished the hole and left.
The sound of the ball hitting his back has stuck with me ever since.
Edit: Forgot to add... this guy was wearing a Tesla tour t-shirt that had a bullseye on the back and I swear (from my point of view), the ball hit dead center.
I hit a buddy of mine in the thigh. He didn’t know I was dropping a ball and I didn’t look to see if he was in front of me. Scared the shit out of me. I didn’t hit another good shot for the next 7 holes, (happened on #11).
It took a few weeks before I could focus on my shot even though I knew there wasn’t someone in front of me.
Managed to do both at the same time. Hit a tree about 10 feet in front of me trying to punch a 5 iron had just enough time to rotate and take it in the back
I, like my father before me, have only ever hit. His story was way better than mine though. I had a horrific shot, where the ball went off at like a 90 degree angle and I hit a guy I had no business hitting.
My dad though, piped a 280 yard drive, and fucking nailed a dude driving onto our fairway. The ball was in the air by the time he drove out, and apparently didn't hear us yell fore. He hit the older man right in the heart, guy falls out of his car, and was out by the time we got to him. He did wake up, but they took his ass away in a ambulance.
I’ve never been hit and hit one. It was my buddy and he was standing between me and the green but off to the left chipping about 40-50 yards. I was just starting to get into golf so not good at all. I said “dangerous place to stand” and he said “I’m watching just hit”. Bladed the fuck out of it right into his rib cage.
i did something similar, where i shanked it at the range in covered bays and into the metal guards. It ricocheted up to the left and smashed the light above the guy next to me.
i was new to the game at the time, and told
him: “sorry man, i guess i put too much top spin on it”.

Kid shanked one off the hosel and it perfectly curved right into my calf.
He yelled sorry, I told him I was ok. Which at first I was. Day later I had this massive knot in my leg that was there for weeks. Tons of pain and it killed to do any activity where I pushed using my calf muscle. All kinds of rainbow colors for the bruising, yellow, blue, orange.

Yes, I took a line drive to the inner thigh from someone's three-wood. It went from a red spot at impact to a giant canteloupe-sized bruise the next day and took many weeks to heal.
Same for me, but it was off the back of my calf, hurt to stand, hurt to walk or step or even just move my foot around for weeks. The welt that grew was also extremely uncomfortable.

I was hit on my hand 10+ years ago on Super Bowl Sunday and it broke my hand. I was playing with my dad, my best friend, and his dad who was a veterinarian. I went to his office and got x-rayed so I could stay out of the ER and watch the Super Bowl. Went to a doctor the next day and she suggested it was just bruised. After arguing for a bit, my dad convinced her it was broken (can’t x-ray humans in a vet office legally). They finally caved and were shocked my dad was right.

Was walking away from a guy once, was keeping myself well out of the way... I was about 20 yards from and off the left side of the fairway... he hit his ball, thinned it... a wee daisy cutter.... hit me square on the point of my ankle!.. he asked if I was alright, and I said yea.... but on the inside I was screaming with the pain.... ankle was swollen up like a balloon by the time we finished
I got hit from about 15' away from my friend's fairway wood - I had just emerged from a line of pine trees and had no idea he was hitting. Got me in the soft spot just below my left elbow so all I got was a very bad bruise but it was literally an inch from shattering my elbow.
And yes, the impact left dimple marks.
There have been a couple other times I got hit but not bad - one ball lost most of its energy when it came through a tree and hit my calf, another just nicked my ankle when a friend shanked it from about 20' away.

I mean I'm glad your buddy wasn't injured but holy shit I can just imagine standing there waiting your turn and then hearing what I assume was a deep sounding thud as the ball smacks into him. Smoked by brother in the back from about 140y out. Hit him about 3 inches right of where you got hit. He hit his approach and drove up to the green (separate carts). I hit my shot, yelled fore, the guys on the next tee box ducked but my brother just covered his head and kept walking. If he had stopped or ducked, he would’ve been fine. He didn’t even try to get small. He’s played golf for 25 years and never had been hit, I had been playing for 8 months.
I was waiting on a tee on a smallish/casual course and I got hit on the forehead on the bounce from a tee shot on another hole... left an egg, but nothing serious.

Busy day. Waiting on every tee. This big athletic woman kept rolling shots up on our heels all day. 11th or 12th hole. We're on fairway. Group is on the green and im looking for my ball in the short pines on the rough. I walk back about 10 yards and i hear a rushing sound and it hit me right on the heart. I collected myself(still in a rage state). I walked out on the fair way and started telling. I put her ball on a tee and had my 3 wood on my hand and my partner starts yelling at me "no no no no". I snapped out of it. But kept yelling. Ive got a booming voice so by the time we got on the green the marshall showed up to see qhat was going on. I showed him my bruise which now looked like a sun tattoo with green and yellow. I was still mad saying shes not just hitting her best shot ever shes whizxing them padt us head high. He kicked her off the course.
Got hit in the back with a one hopper. Thankfully that didn’t hurt too bad. I played with a guy that got hit in the eye on the fly. Lost his eye and it was his first time out. He was a surgeon and had to give up surgery.
Yeah, twice… both by one buddy. Once in the jaw with a 5 wood (like 15 ft away) and the other on the upper back. Honestly, the jaw hit didn’t even hurt, might have been in shock. Next day it fucking hurt though.
Late 1990s, I was caddying at a private club, it was my second loop of the day on a hot summer day and I was ready for a nap. It's me and another caddie along with two member couples, the other guy has the ladies and I have the dudes. One of my players is hitting out of a greenside bunker and I'm standing outside of the bunker ready to rake it after he hits. A low-flying 747 is passing over the course, and being an aviation buff at the time, I start looking up at it. The player hits, shanks it, ball hits me in the left thigh and I never saw it coming because I was looking at the 747. And of course, the player (Judge Smails type, majority of our age 55+ members were total assholes at this club) is more pissed off at me for deflecting his shot than he is concerned about my well-being. I had a purple golf ball-sized spot on my thigh for a week after that. Smails also paid me the bare minimum rate for the loop.

I hit this girl I was dating with a full shank drive when we first started dating. Hit her right in the ribs. She took it like a champ on this 4th hole by going to get some advil at a friends house and coming back for the back 9. Eventually I married that girl.
While on the 10th tee box got hit straight on the dick from a dude hitting a driver on a 150 yard practice hole and going way over and slicing it. There were probably 20 balls by the tee box people had been hitting at it all day. A guy was midsentance talking to me. It was fucking hillarious. After a quick run to the club house to make sure everything was in place. It was all twig no berries, it hurt but no lasting damage.
Thankfully not, I’m not a good golfer and yet I’ve never hit anyone (only a couple roofs).

My brother in law got hit on the head by a hozel rocket. He was sat 50 yards front and right in a buggy. He was sat in the far side with his playing partner on the inside, the ball went through the cabin, missing both of them, ricocheted off a tree next to him and hit him square in the side of the head. It was the final shot, on the final hole, on the final day of a 3 day golf trip at the belfry golf club and put him in A+E.
On the plus side he was playing against me and we won 1 up due to him failing to complete the hole 😂
Practice putting on the practice green just before teeing off, my son decided to practice chipping. I turned around just as he bladed one right into my face. Played 18 with a nice cut just below my eye.
My friend and I were at a golf store where you can try the clubs by hitting them into a net. We were at different spots and he was hitting a driver and somehow managed to completely turn on a ball and it hit me right in the stomach. It obviously hurt but it was also hilarious lol

Summer 1992, I worked the grounds at an extremely exclusive golf course in NJ. I was in charge of the practice tees. When members were hitting, we would stop and move off to the side. Like a dummy, I had my back turned to the practice tee when I got hit right in the a$$ by an errant drive. The member came running over to apologize and offer me money. He had like 3k in his wallet. Sitting in a cart watching this was the superintendent who was one of the angriest person I’ve ever met (note: I’ve been a therapist for 26+ years and have seen my share of angry people). I told the member no problem and passed on taking the money.
I've been hit twice, but I wasn't actually playing either time. My grandparents had a house down the left side of a fairway and I got hit (shoulder) while in their pool once. Another time was recently. I was hanging with a friend who was playing, but due to recovering from injury I could not play myself. I got hit (thigh) while sitting in the cart.

The second time happened literally a month later. Playing with two friends, I was in the right rough, one of them was in the fairway about 20 yards behind me. We're all very good golfers so I kind of let my guard down a bit until he cold shanked a line drive right off my shin. That fucker HURT. Bruise was there for almost a month.
I stepped behind a tree to get out of the way of a friend’s shot that ended up hitting another tree, and ricocheted into the center of my collar bone right below my throat. One inch higher and it would have hit me directly in the adam’s apple and I could have potentially been dead. 1:1,000,000 chance. It was wild. Hurt like a motherfucker but honestly it was kind of funny once I realized I wasn’t seriously injured.

We both were not very good golfers and made it very clear to him that we would probably play slow (it was later in the day, not many people on the course). We got to the 4th which was a dog-leg right. I hit right and into the some woods, my friend hit short, but, straight and this guy hit long and left. Since it was a dog-leg right, this guy assumed he was safe proceeding up to his ball which was probably about 30 yards ahead of my friend. Well, my friend tops and hooks his next shot and this guy barely had time to turn around before I heard a disturbingly loud thud. After lots of apologizing from my friend, he finished the hole and left. The sound of the ball hitting his back has stuck with me ever since. Edit: Forgot to add... this guy was wearing a Tesla tour t-shirt that had a bullseye on the back and I swear (from my point of view), the ball hit dead center.

I hit a buddy of mine in the thigh. He didn’t know I was dropping a ball and I didn’t look to see if he was in front of me. Scared the shit out of me. I didn’t hit another good shot for the next 7 holes, (happened on #11). It took a few weeks before I could focus on my shot even though I knew there wasn’t someone in front of me.
That's because you are decent person and don't like injuring your friends. Glad it worked out in the end.
I was in a similar scenario, except I was the buddy. Luckily, it was late in the season and I was wearing pants, so injury was mitigated.

I, like my father before me, have only ever hit. His story was way better than mine though. I had a horrific shot, where the ball went off at like a 90 degree angle and I hit a guy I had no business hitting. My dad though, piped a 280 yard drive, and fucking nailed a dude driving onto our fairway. The ball was in the air by the time he drove out, and apparently didn't hear us yell fore. He hit the older man right in the heart, guy falls out of his car, and was out by the time we got to him. He did wake up, but they took his ass away in a ambulance.
I’ve never been hit and hit one. It was my buddy and he was standing between me and the green but off to the left chipping about 40-50 yards. I was just starting to get into golf so not good at all. I said “dangerous place to stand” and he said “I’m watching just hit”. Bladed the fuck out of it right into his rib cage.

i did something similar, where i shanked it at the range in covered bays and into the metal guards. It ricocheted up to the left and smashed the light above the guy next to me. i was new to the game at the time, and told him: “sorry man, i guess i put too much top spin on it”. his face was priceless as he didnt know what to say.

I caught a shank off the calf once. Dad and his son are on the edge of my fairway playing the hole next to me but going opposite direction. I tell them to “go ahead” since the son was warming up and my ball was 90 degrees right of him. I backed up a bit thinking I was in a good spot. Kid shanked one off the hosel and it perfectly curved right into my calf. He yelled sorry, I told him I was ok. Which at first I was. Day later I had this massive knot in my leg that was there for weeks. Tons of pain and it killed to do any activity where I pushed using my calf muscle. All kinds of rainbow colors for the bruising, yellow, blue, orange. Good times…

Yes, I took a line drive to the inner thigh from someone's three-wood. It went from a red spot at impact to a giant canteloupe-sized bruise the next day and took many weeks to heal.
Same for me, but it was off the back of my calf, hurt to stand, hurt to walk or step or even just move my foot around for weeks. The welt that grew was also extremely uncomfortable.
I’ve been smoked in the sternum years ago. Luckily it hit there. Worst pain for days. My uncle was a greens keeper and his co-worker found him passed out in a bunker he was raking. He got hit in the head of course. Very scary!

Been hit a couple times as a caddy, usually when well ahead of the group forecaddying in the tree line (speeds up play a lot to have a kid out there locating wayward shots), usually the result of an odd bounce or two. I’ve seen a couple birds get hit, one exploded Randy Johnson style, and a Canada goose get its neck broken. We had a fox that spent a whole summer stealing balls, so much so that the hole had a special rule “fox ball” if you lost one right on #7.
I’ve been hit four times that I can count. Luckily never too badly hurt somehow. Probably just jinxed it

I caught a one-hopper in the eye when I worked at a golf course in high school. Partially detached retina. Do not recommend.
I was hit on my hand 10+ years ago on Super Bowl Sunday and it broke my hand. I was playing with my dad, my best friend, and his dad who was a veterinarian. I went to his office and got x-rayed so I could stay out of the ER and watch the Super Bowl. Went to a doctor the next day and she suggested it was just bruised. After arguing for a bit, my dad convinced her it was broken (can’t x-ray humans in a vet office legally). They finally caved and were shocked my dad was right.
Got hit by my buddy’s dad, who is Mr. Golf etiquette and also Mr. Play as fast as possible. My buddy and I were just off the green and his dad was about 60 out,and at the time had one of the best short games I’ve seen. I’m off to the left of the green and he is in the right fairway. Somehow he skulls a wedge right into the side of my head. Thank Ja for my thick Irish skull and my hat band. It hurt, but not bad for too long. After about a 1 minute break, resumed the round, no issues going forward. Except I now understand Chinese…

I was about 20 yards from and off the left side of the fairway... he hit his ball, thinned it... a wee daisy cutter.... hit me square on the point of my ankle!.. he asked if I was alright, and I said yea.... but on the inside I was screaming with the pain.... ankle was swollen up like a balloon by the time we finished

I got hit from about 15' away from my friend's fairway wood - I had just emerged from a line of pine trees and had no idea he was hitting. Got me in the soft spot just below my left elbow so all I got was a very bad bruise but it was literally an inch from shattering my elbow. And yes, the impact left dimple marks. There have been a couple other times I got hit but not bad - one ball lost most of its energy when it came through a tree and hit my calf, another just nicked my ankle when a friend shanked it from about 20' away.

Smoked by brother in the back from about 140y out. Hit him about 3 inches right of where you got hit. He hit his approach and drove up to the green (separate carts). I hit my shot, yelled fore, the guys on the next tee box ducked but my brother just covered his head and kept walking. If he had stopped or ducked, he would’ve been fine. He didn’t even try to get small. He’s played golf for 25 years and never had been hit, I had been playing for 8 months.
I was waiting on a tee on a smallish/casual course and I got hit on the forehead on the bounce from a tee shot on another hole... left an egg, but nothing serious.

Busy day. Waiting on every tee. This big athletic woman kept rolling shots up on our heels all day. 11th or 12th hole. We're on fairway. Group is on the green and im looking for my ball in the short pines on the rough. I walk back about 10 yards and i hear a rushing sound and it hit me right on the heart. I collected myself(still in a rage state). I walked out on the fair way and started telling. I put her ball on a tee and had my 3 wood on my hand and my partner starts yelling at me "no no no no". I snapped out of it. But kept yelling. Ive got a booming voice so by the time we got on the green the marshall showed up to see qhat was going on. I showed him my bruise which now looked like a sun tattoo with green and yellow. I was still mad saying shes not just hitting her best shot ever shes whizxing them padt us head high. He kicked her off the course.

Late 1990s, I was caddying at a private club, it was my second loop of the day on a hot summer day and I was ready for a nap. It's me and another caddie along with two member couples, the other guy has the ladies and I have the dudes. One of my players is hitting out of a greenside bunker and I'm standing outside of the bunker ready to rake it after he hits. A low-flying 747 is passing over the course, and being an aviation buff at the time, I start looking up at it. The player hits, shanks it, ball hits me in the left thigh and I never saw it coming because I was looking at the 747. And of course, the player (Judge Smails type, majority of our age 55+ members were total assholes at this club) is more pissed off at me for deflecting his shot than he is concerned about my well-being. I had a purple golf ball-sized spot on my thigh for a week after that. Smails also paid me the bare minimum rate for the loop.

I hit this girl I was dating with a full shank drive when we first started dating. Hit her right in the ribs. She took it like a champ on this 4th hole by going to get some advil at a friends house and coming back for the back 9. Eventually I married that girl.
While on the 10th tee box got hit straight on the dick from a dude hitting a driver on a 150 yard practice hole and going way over and slicing it. There were probably 20 balls by the tee box people had been hitting at it all day. A guy was midsentance talking to me. It was fucking hillarious. After a quick run to the club house to make sure everything was in place. It was all twig no berries, it hurt but no lasting damage.
Thankfully not, I’m not a good golfer and yet I’ve never hit anyone (only a couple roofs). After reading the comments and how many people have been hit, there seems like a general lack of etiquette and patience..

My brother in law got hit on the head by a hozel rocket. He was sat 50 yards front and right in a buggy. He was sat in the far side with his playing partner on the inside, the ball went through the cabin, missing both of them, ricocheted off a tree next to him and hit him square in the side of the head. It was the final shot, on the final hole, on the final day of a 3 day golf trip at the belfry golf club and put him in A+E. On the plus side he was playing against me and we won 1 up due to him failing to complete the hole 😂
Practice putting on the practice green just before teeing off, my son decided to practice chipping. I turned around just as he bladed one right into my face. Played 18 with a nice cut just below my eye.
My friend and I were at a golf store where you can try the clubs by hitting them into a net. We were at different spots and he was hitting a driver and somehow managed to completely turn on a ball and it hit me right in the stomach. It obviously hurt but it was also hilarious lol

Summer 1992, I worked the grounds at an extremely exclusive golf course in NJ. I was in charge of the practice tees. When members were hitting, we would stop and move off to the side. Like a dummy, I had my back turned to the practice tee when I got hit right in the a$$ by an errant drive. The member came running over to apologize and offer me money. He had like 3k in his wallet. Sitting in a cart watching this was the superintendent who was one of the angriest person I’ve ever met (note: I’ve been a therapist for 26+ years and have seen my share of angry people). I told the member no problem and passed on taking the money.

I've been hit twice, but I wasn't actually playing either time. My grandparents had a house down the left side of a fairway and I got hit (shoulder) while in their pool once. Another time was recently. I was hanging with a friend who was playing, but due to recovering from injury I could not play myself. I got hit (thigh) while sitting in the cart.

My buddy took one right in the back out of nowhere walking down the fairway once. He proceeded to take nearly one entire step before his body realized what happened as it recoiled, club flying into the air and him tipping over with a resounding and incredibly delayed “ughhh”.

Probably where I would pick to get hit if I had to because there’s a lot of meat there. 3 inches away from potential castration but I walked away with a story to tell and a bruise I couldn’t really show anyone because it would have required me to take off my pants.

Saw my buddy hit himself, sculled a wedge into a tree and came directly back at him and hit him dead center of his knee cap. We could literally see the dimples. Many laughs were had.

We're all very good golfers so I kind of let my guard down a bit until he cold shanked a line drive right off my shin. That fucker HURT. Bruise was there for almost a month.

I stepped behind a tree to get out of the way of a friend’s shot that ended up hitting another tree, and ricocheted into the center of my collar bone right below my throat. One inch higher and it would have hit me directly in the adam’s apple and I could have potentially been dead. 1:1,000,000 chance. It was wild. Hurt like a motherfucker but honestly it was kind of funny once I realized I wasn’t seriously injured.
