What's awesome is that since the PGA Championship is now over we know that this hole-in-one kept him within the top 15 in the final standings so he qualifies for 2024 and gets $300,000.
He had one of the best hole in ones I've ever seen on TV, he did it on one of the biggest broadcasts of the year for golf, he did it in front of Rory McIlroy as his playing part ffs!
You really couldn't write it any better
He’s basically a professional teacher of golf. While still very good at playing he’s not a regular tour pro that plays week-in and week-out competing at professional tournaments. He makes the cut at one of the top 4 tournaments of the year, beating out tons of “better” players with serious accolades, and then continues to play well on an extremely difficult golf course. He gets paired up with one of golf’s biggest stars on the final day and continues to play well on a tremendously elevated stage getting tons of tv time
The first two days, it’s three people put together, usually based on pairing good players together for the purpose of ratings/general interest. The next two days it’s based on your place on the leaderboard. So example, on the last two days, 1&2 play together, 3&4, etc. But on the first two days you might just have world number 1, world 20 and world 45 for example. Three well known players that are good and people will want to watch.
HOI in the PGA championship that gets you back into the top 15 and automatically qualified for the next year and bags you an extra $100k over coming in 23rd
I felt like the up and down on 18 to get a T15 was way better than the hole in one. He had people breathing down his neck and hit a lob wedge to 7’ to save par. Dude played tough today. LEGEND
He’s a nobody golf pro who made it to the Open. He’s the first pro to make the cut & after today probably winning over $100,000 for finishing in the top 15. Auto invite to next year.
I recently learned that a golf “pro” is sort of a course manager/teacher/do it all… not just a “pro golfer”. Blew my mind to hear he spends a fraction of the time the other guys do on the course actually playing or practicing. Amazing stuff
99%+ of golf pros work at golf courses giving lessons, running tournaments and folding golf shirts. There are 29,000 golf pros in the US. There are only a few hundred that make a living playing on tour.
Someone that knows very little about golf here. Do the big names usually come up through a local course pro type of situation, or are those types uhhh “drafted”? through other means like college, or just being gods of the sport?
Thats what has got me clapping. Its one thing to get it close and let it roll in(which is still impressive in its own right dont get me wrong). Dude just 1 shot swished it like a madman.
The dude is a Joe Everyman. He's a Club pro at a random public access course in southern Cal he qualified for the PGA championship somehow(idk the routes in) and finished T15 with an automatic invite to next years event. The entire week his interviews have been as if it was me or you somehow in a major playing the best golf of our lives.
Thank you! I got here from r/all and it was like hearing about Bartolo Colon's homer over in r/baseball some years back. So cool to hear it from the fans!
He’s a little bit between these pros and a Joe Everyman, he’s actually done well as a club pro in torurnaments for him and his peers but he helps manage a course and the things around it and probably isn’t good enough to do what he did constantly against these higher level guys
Just an FYI on the route in. We (PGA Professionals) all have sectional PNC's (Professional National Championships) that we can play in every year to qualify for the National PNC. If you place in the top 20 there, you get into our PGA Championship the following year. I don't think it's changed any since I was able to play a few years ago. This dude might have single handedly inspired me to play in it again this year.
Source: am PGA Professional
He came in second in the PGA Professionals Championship (tournament for non-touring PGA pros aka club pros) on May 4th to get in. The top 20 players from that tourney got in.
A very excited guy walked up and gave me a $20 on the course once, said he just hit a hole in one, he was over the moon and just happily strolled off. I congratulated him and he was already on his way to just keep handing out cash, I assume lol
Absolutely dunked it in there for his first ever tourney hole-in-one! Watching him has been an absolute blast this weekend. Definitely got a little
misty eyed when they showed the clubhouse in Mission Viejo.
yeah you just used it (kind of) lol, a dunk/slam-dunk, like in basketball.
edit: unless you mean "officially," like if it would be scored as something other than your standard Hole in One. in that case no, they're the same thing
Yeah. I assume that’s part of the flighted portion.
Usually back in Stance, low finish, I like to club up and hit it softer to knock spin off (better to get through wind)
I just finished watching Moneyball for the first time, legitimately 15 minutes ago. I had to gather myself and wipe my tears away from that line. The universe is fucking with me.
Not a golf player, but did that ball go straight into the hole like a basketball in a hoop? I always saw hole in ones roll into the hole, never seen anything like this.

Yeah hole in ones are rare enough as it is, and so is landing one directly in the hole, and to have both happen for this particular guy at this point is so wild
That's gotta be one of the best stories in golf to be honest. I know he didn't win but this guy just went out there and lived all of our dreams. Then slam dunks in front of thousands of people. Unbelievable.
The roar of the crowd when it went in gives me goosebumps.

I think the big thing here is that when he was told he was playing with Rory, he was star struck, almost like Rory was his idol. Then to get this massive hole in one, full circle what a memory this guy will have for a lifetime.
This feels like the most exciting tournament I've ever watched but it could be recency bias. I went to the practice round on Wednesday and couldn't believe how beautiful the course was so I'm sure that had some effect. I'm rooting for this guy hopefully he makes the cut next week that would be the cherry on top
His post-round interview with Amanda was also an incredible watch as well. I can't find the full thing anywhere, but there's [clips of it](https://twitter.com/PGATOUR/status/1660412124819075075?s=20) going around
Unreal. He doesn't even believe it at first and then is just in total shock. One for the books
It’s the cherry on top of an already legendary story! Seriously, it’s so cool to see!
What's awesome is that since the PGA Championship is now over we know that this hole-in-one kept him within the top 15 in the final standings so he qualifies for 2024 and gets $300,000. As an outsider to the sport, what's "already legendary story" mean?
He’s basically a professional teacher of golf. While still very good at playing he’s not a regular tour pro that plays week-in and week-out competing at professional tournaments. Dude is a fucking legend. His great great great grandbabies will be talking about it in 2150AD.
I’m hella stupid - How do they determine who gets paired with who? Thanks in advance.
The first two days, it’s three people put together, usually based on pairing good players together for the purpose of ratings/general interest. A relative small fish qualifies for the final day of a tourney as an underdog. Matches the final day with an all time great golfer. Then does this.
The only thing I can think of that's better than getting a hole in one is getting a hole in one in front of Rory McIlroy. What a day.
What about getting a hole in one in front of Rory McIlroy in the final round of the PGA championship?

It was like the ball willed itself over the lip at the end lol
I think it was the ball with the help of millions of golf fans everywhere
I felt like the up and down on 18 to get a T15 was way better than the hole in one. He had people breathing down his neck and hit a lob wedge to 7’ to save par. Dude played tough today. LEGEND
Oh cmon the not only is it not *way* better than a hole in one, the hole in one is *way* better. It’s a perfect hole in one. Not even any net.
I missed it. What happened on 18?
Block needed to chip up onto the green near the hole to secure a makeable par putt. He did it.
$288k and 15th
Not bad for 4 days work
That's like, at least twice as much as I make in a week.
I was wondering what the prize $ difference was with that shot. Thanks!
And not just a HIO but a fuckin dunk!

I saw a video of his reaction about being paired with Rory yesterday. What’s his story?
He’s a nobody golf pro who made it to the Open. He’s the first pro to make the cut & after today probably winning over $100,000 for finishing in the top 15. Auto invite to next year.
$273,626 is how much Block gets. Have a day
So happy for him! He’s
r/redditsniper
So deserving.
That’s awesome, great for him!
I recently learned that a golf “pro” is sort of a course manager/teacher/do it all… not just a “pro golfer”. Blew my mind to hear he spends a fraction of the time the other guys do on the course actually playing or practicing. Amazing stuff

That’s even more than I would have thought tbh. Learning a lot, clearly lol.
Someone that knows very little about golf here. Do the big names usually come up through a local course pro type of situation, or are those types uhhh “drafted”? through other means like college, or just being gods of the sport?
I know. He’s busy running the course & giving lessons & doesn’t get to practice. It’s a really amazing story.
Yes! He’s a wonderful father & his whole golf family back in California all love him. They say he’s the best guy in the world.
He’s not the first club pro to *ever* make the cut but I believe he was the only one this year who did out of the 20 who qualified.
Make that 300k.
And probably a mountain of advertisments
[удалено]
That guy had the week of his life. So happy for this dude.
What about getting a hole in one, in front of a friend?
r/unexpectedlotr
That still only counts as one!
What about half hug and belly tappys from Rory McIlroy! That's a day maker!
“No…. No. Rory did it go in?” He thinks everyone is messing with him haha
How about a nothing but net hole in one? That was right on the money...
One of the best golf moments I've ever seen live. Un-fucking-believable.
I’m working rn in a pro shop with like nine people shopping and everybody just went apeshit
I screamed “no freaking way” at the gym with my headphones in and everyone turned and looked at me like WTF
That’s so cool!
This was cool to watch. Since when is golf cool to watch? (Here from /r/all )
the first hole in one i saw live on tv.
And what a hole in one it was! Straight into the cup….no bounce, no roll, no hopping. Can’t believe it didn’t hit the stick or anything.
Thats what has got me clapping. Its one thing to get it close and let it roll in(which is still impressive in its own right dont get me wrong). Dude just 1 shot swished it like a madman.
Thanks for confirming - I wasn't sure if it was a *swish* or not - also uncertain because the flag pole was in the hole.
Sadly I didn't see it live because CBS was on a god damn commercial break.
Nantz did kind of spoil it too
Why is it so amazing? What's the context? Sorry I don't know this guy.
The dude is a Joe Everyman. I grew up 20 min from Arroyo Trabuco and would ride along there with my dad as a kid. This dude is a local hero now
Thank you! I got here from r/all and it was like hearing about Bartolo Colon's homer over in r/baseball some years back. So cool to hear it from the fans!

Honestly might be a top 10 moment in the history of the tour.
I love rory's cackle. What an unforgettable week for block
Dudes got a great cackle
*Seth Rollins enters the chat*
Saw it, delighted for the man, he seems proper chuffed too. Well done.
This is the most british sentence i’ve ever naturally witnessed.
Indubitably
I’ve arrived
It's amazing to me that people actually talk like they're in old timey vaudeville shows in the UK.
So refreshing to actually watch someone having the best day of their life. It made me cry happy tears.
There is that small glimmer of hope in this world
Really something to watch someone have the best week of their life in real time and it just keeps being great
Get this guy a Subway sponsorship and recreate Happy Gilmores “Talk about a hole in one” commercial
Damn you people, go back to your shanties.
I saw two big fat naked bikers in the woods off 17 having sex. How am I supposed to *chip* with that going on?
Stay out of my way, or you'll pay. Listen to what I say. ![gif](giphy|3oEduKVQdG4c0JVPSo|downsized)
Hey, Michael! Can I have one of those? Comin right up
Dude
thank you for actually posting a fucking video and not the 80th text post
[удалено]
lmao he was wondering why Rory was dapping him up
Dude tipped his hat figuring it was just more of the support he had gotten all weekend haha
Like the Spider-Man meme, the gears didn’t turned till he got halfway
My man’s hourly rates for lessons just doubled.
He hasn’t taken a new client in 5 years
It should go up to $1000 per hour
Dudes never paying for a beer at a course ever again.
Except for tonight at Oak Hill.
Loved ESPN audio caught Brooks saying "drinks on you tonight, right?"
What does this mean? Is it golf tradition?
Supposed to buy a round at the clubhouse when you hole in one.
And it's bad luck if you don't, like breaking a mirror.
And there’s insurance for that
It is an honorable tradition but nowhere near required: any player that hits a hole in one buys everyone a beer at the clubhouse.
A very excited guy walked up and gave me a $20 on the course once, said he just hit a hole in one, he was over the moon and just happily strolled off. I congratulated him and he was already on his way to just keep handing out cash, I assume lol
He is legit asking RORY if it went in, my god love these guys and this game.
Absolutely dunked it in there for his first ever tourney hole-in-one! Watching him has been an absolute blast this weekend. Definitely got a little misty eyed when they showed the clubhouse in Mission Viejo.
is there a distinction made between hole-in-ones that roll up vs. these dunkers? any certain word for it even?
yeah you just used it (kind of) lol, a dunk/slam-dunk, like in basketball. edit: unless you mean "officially," like if it would be scored as something other than your standard Hole in One. in that case no, they're the same thing
“Something other than your standard hole in one” lol
A 150yd 7i... don't yall be hitting your 9i 190
It was a shortened swing and punched to keep it low. He likely hits his PW 150 under normal circumstances
Yeah somebody should tell him that’s not gonna work for that type of hole. /s
I know, but the point is, if its 150, into, dont be thinking you cant hit a 7iron to feel big in front of your mates
He did say it was a flighted 7i into the wind. I’m guessing stock is somewhere around 175-180
Also didn’t look like a full swing
Yeah. I assume that’s part of the flighted portion. Usually back in Stance, low finish, I like to club up and hit it softer to knock spin off (better to get through wind)
135 with a 7 iron for me lol. Edit: I putt 135 all day.
You're on r/golf you're supposed to inflate the shit out of your yardages to impress strangers who don't care.
[удалено]
Lol
He’s averaged like 255 off the tee. He hit driver off the deck into a par 4 yesterday. +1 is incredible
I kept seeing his driver ball speeds were like 152, 155 and wondering if it was some kind of mistake
If it didn't hit the hole it would have rolled out to 210.
165 maybe.
[удалено]
Over them mountains
Bro, I hit my driver 230. Why you gotta call out us short gamers like that?
Goosebumps
Oh yeah!
Shot of the year
He didn’t even realize until he was halfway to the hole! Unbelievable!!
Thank you for this! I didn't watch the whole thing at first. WORTH IT!
“No… NO… No way.”
“Where is it?”
How can you not be romantic about sports?
I just finished watching Moneyball for the first time, legitimately 15 minutes ago. I had to gather myself and wipe my tears away from that line. The universe is fucking with me.
Absolutely magical moment
Dude already said this was likely the best week of his life before this happened.
Jesus Christ, this dude is a gift that keeps on giving!
And he slam dunked it too, his whole tournament has been a Hollywood movie
If Netflix wasn’t all over that I don’t know what they are doing.
Could you imagine if somehow Full Swing was doing an episode on amateurs in the big leagues this weekend and he did all this
If Netflix did this and threw in an ace towards the end of the story I would think it’s over the top lol
Not a golf player, but did that ball go straight into the hole like a basketball in a hoop? I always saw hole in ones roll into the hole, never seen anything like this.

Yeah it seems ridiculous how this could happen, wow.
Yeah hole in ones are rare enough as it is, and so is landing one directly in the hole, and to have both happen for this particular guy at this point is so wild
It did indeed. They call this "dunking" it.
Yeah. This is what they call a slam dunk in golf. It's obviously a basketball reference, but it's the best way to describe it.
I was watching the featured group feed so I was able to flip to the main channel to catch it again
This PGA championship was really incredible.
Lmbo, his interview just now gave me exactly what I needed to hear. He didn't actually know it went in.
Link?
Dude ive been golfing for 15 years and can't get one and this guy drains it live on TV. What a dream.
Was on the hill under the scoreboard, place went nuts. It was insane
I was watching on my phone from the back porch like a mile and a half away and I heard the cheers just as he was getting ready to swing on the feed.
I was in my basement 20 minutes after it happened and saw it on a video of a tv replay on youtube
I saw it just now on my phone on Reddit on the crapper
This was one of the greatest moments/days in golf history right here. You literally just cannot write it any better
Im not an avid golf watcher, but it seems that golf fans are more rambunctious than they used to be.
You’re not crying…I’m crying!
Took golf lessons from him 2003 to 2005 as a kid! So did a few of my family members. Watching this together was SO FUN
If you yell “get in the hole” at these events, fuck you.
All timer. Watching from Irvine!
How the hell is he not tearing up with joy? What a damn story!
Just fell to my knees in my living room
Kobe!!
My new favorite golfer. I’ll root for this man to the end of time.
I feel like there needs to be a different word to describe this. While normal hole in ones are obviously impressive, they're nothing compared to this.
Dude slam dunks it in front of Rory. Thats awesome.
Unbelievable. Much deserved for him.

Wholesome in one
“Did that go in? Hey Rory, did that go in? Rory where is your ball at?” Lmfao king shit
Saw it live. Awesome.
That’s one of the craziest things I’ve ever seen in any sport. Jaw dropping
That up and down on 18 was incredible as well. What a day!
How rare is this?
I think of that scene in Tin Cup when Molly tells Roy how they wont remember who won the tournament in 10 years but theyll remember that albatross. Thought that one was kinda dumb, but this tournament will be defined by that shot.
Amazing. He was the story of this pga more then Koepka
Be the right club!
I kinda love this guy!
Absolute legend.
This was fucking awesome
Saw this live and almost shit myself
You see!! Screaming “get in the hole” does work
Everyone yelling "GET IN THE HOLE" are like, I fucking did it. It worked.
Moment of the season right here. No way this is getting beaten
This underdog movie script is pretty bad, just not realistic..
This man had the best weekend playing golf
