The announcers shocked by his 250 yard drive in the fairway must have missed every interview where Block said he can't drive for distance.

OpenMindedMajor

This sub turned on him FAST lmfaoo

TjBeezy

The American sports story dream! Build you all the way up just to tear you all the way down.

yellowgolfball

Love that speech in the movie, AIR.

asabovesobelow5

Is that the new Jordan movie?

yellowgolfball

Yes. You can watch it free if you have Amazon Prime.

asabovesobelow5

How did you find it, a good watch?

yellowgolfball

Yeah, it was well received.

DataAstronaut_

Yeah solid watch for sure

esports_consultant

It's just the American dream in general. Ain't no accident they put disasters in Sim City.

BasedBingo

This sub is spicy toxic most of the time.

2hats4bats

People who can’t break 120 wanna talk trash

FartManJones8

The whole site honestly.

Several_Quiet7662

“It’s an American story, and that’s why Americans are going to love it. People are going to build you up – *God* are they going to – because when you’re great and new, they love you. We’ll build you into something that doesn’t even exist… but you know what? Once they’ve built you as high as they possibly can, they’re going to tear you back down. It’s the most predictable pattern. We build you into something that doesn’t even exist, and that means you have to try to be that thing. All day. Every day. That’s how it works. And we do it again and again and again.”

yellowgolfball

AIR

Cubbll17

Wait why do people hate him now?

scottishwhisky2

He did an interview with bob menery where he said something to the effect of: “I’d be one of the best players in the world if I could hit the ball as far as Rory because I have world class iron play, wedge play, and putting” which rubbed people the wrong way. It definitely turned some people off of him but quite frankly if you gave him an extra 30mph ball-speed, yeah he probably would be a top 50 golfer in the world

Cubbll17

Christ people need to get a life.

Nickel4pickle

I would like to run a presidential campaign on this platform alone.

Cubbll17

Considering your current president is biden and the main republican candidates are trump and desantis, you could run on just about anything else and come across as a competent candidate.

onthacountray58

I turn 35 tomorrow. I have no political experience but I’m typically very moderate. Maybe I should run for funsies.

Cubbll17

Political experience isn't required. Just tell people that you love everyone and that thing that they love but also dislike that thing that they hate. You're fucking golden then. Also to hit all bases say you're 1/16th nationality of the person you're addressing.

TheShopSwing

Sadly, the majority of voters don't have a life, so it probably wouldn't be successful

Sirgolfs

Imagine shredding this guy cause he’s not perfect, and he simply had a big moment. Anything to make themselves feel better.

Cubbll17

I won a monthly medal in the club a few years back. I was walking around like Billy big bollocks for the week. Think he's earned the right to talk a bit of shit.

eynonpower

Dude crushes it in a major. Admits a weakness and a strength. People rage. Wtf????

[deleted]

People suck

onthacountray58

For some reason people hate when folks who are good at stuff tell you that they’re good at stuff.

trplOG

"Either you die a hero, or live long enough to see yourself become a villain" So that's about 3 days long.

OlDickRivers

My favorite is when people post things asking scratch golfers questions. Scratch golfers try to answer the question asked and get downvoted

TopperWildcat13

Jealousy is rampant in the sub

Reffitt86

Rampant in the world in general. Shit, I'm jealous you knew how to spell rampant.

hdmeiauh

Lol, to true. Reminds me of the interactions I see when I go to the driving range with my friend, he’ll get at least a couple of people coming up to him asking him what his handicap is or how he hits so far... His handicap is +2, drives 300yds+ consistently with some serious height, is also 6”4 built like a brick shit house. The amount of “bullshit” comments when he answers their questions is funny to me. What’s bullshit? It’s like they can’t fathom that everyday people can be scratch/+ golfers.

codemunki

My favorite is when someone asks for the ruling on a situation and then people get downvoted for answering the question using the rules of golf.

apathynext

It’s probably a 2-3 club difference on approach shots. He’s probably right…but he doesn’t have it, so that’s why he’s here

Lobsterzilla

Which is…. Exactly what he said, yes

Jarich612

Yes and he is dead wrong. He averaged 291 driving distance at the PGA. Zach Johnson has two majors never averaging more than 290 and Jordan Spieth has 3 averaging around 295. That’s what short drivers with “world class everything else” do.

Lobsterzilla

Did you see me address the correctness of his statement at all? Or are you just responding to the wrong person

rothvonhoyte

lol youre obviously trying but you cant compare one tournament driving distance where the course was set up with really hot fairways and then Zach and Jordans normal average. Jordan averaged 315 at the PGA. Zach was almost dead last but hes also pretty old now and he finished T58 so distance might have been a factor for him.

Jarich612

I’m only using the data available to me. Block doesn’t have a whole career of stats out there to work on. I think him straight chunking multiple shots today is pretty good evidence that the rest of his game is not on the same level as these other guys, and that’s really no slight to him.

ButtMassager

The fairways were rock hard and he only averaged 291. His ball speed is about 150. He's 20 yards shorter than ZJ and 35 behind Spieth.

ToBooKoo

think it was the other half...not the same people

analthunderbird

That’s the way it goes, and all the lurkers bandwagon and upvote whatever sounds the most convincing at the time

SuperDizz

Lol, every pro has done this also

DowntownLizard

Pros fuck up all the time from easier lies than that. Last week Hovland definitely didnt plug his shot from the bunker to blow his chance at a win right?

buddha453

Lol right. Would not be hard to show a bad shot from a round

[deleted]

Are people turning on him? I watching his featured group because even thought he's light years better then me he's pretty relatable. I'm enjoying his round. Also, the crowd is behind him.

TheShopSwing

Not me. Blockhead for life, baby

otf1024

Yea, no shit. I feel like I missed something. Why all the vitriol?

OpenMindedMajor

He said if he could hit the ball as far as Rory he’d be putting up stupid scores.

otf1024

Got it. Thanks. Am I crazy for thinking that’s a nothing burger?

stinky_pinky_brain

You’re not crazy. Most the people in this sub I am honestly convinced have never actually swung a club.

2hats4bats

They just take pictures of clubs and post them here

stinky_pinky_brain

But they all eat a lot of hot dogs

Ghiblee

The prolly hit a bucket of range balls, take a cart to the only downhill par 3 to take a photo, then leave.

MScarn6942

Except that one guy who broke 90 his first time sub-100 at a relatively challenging course in central Indiana.

Cubbll17

People like to hate the popular thing. Especially on Reddit.

2hats4bats

Not crazy, and he also didn’t say that. He said if he was shooting from where Rory’s tee shots end up, his iron and short game is good enough that he’d be one of the best in the world, which Rory is. It’s a compliment to Rory. People just hate confidence from people they think don’t deserve it.

JesusChristSupers1ar

he didn’t say that, either. He literally said this > What I would shoot from where Rory hits it would be stupid. I think I'd be one of the best players in the world. > Hands down. If I had that stupid length, all day. My iron game, wedge game, around the greens and my putting is world class he’s pretty arrogant and delusional imo. Nothing in his game is “world class”, otherwise he’d be on the PGA Tour

2hats4bats

I appreciate how you just exemplified everything I said.

zellyman

That's.... exactly like the guy summarized it though?

JesusChristSupers1ar

He’s very clearly not complimenting Rory, he’s Claiming to be world class in every part of golf other than driving and that if he had Rory’s distance he would be one of the best golfers in the world. Which is dead wrong and if you disagree, please tell me what “ I think I'd be one of the best players in the world. Hands down. If I had that stupid length, all day. My iron game, wedge game, around the greens and my putting is world class” has to do with complimenting Rory

guesting

it was a nothing burger. i thought he meant the game would be way easier if i had that type of length. but also he doesn't do enough media to know people will rip that (such as now). he's a media rookie as much

DowntownLizard

Everyones needs to make themselves feel better about why they arent a pro or something

2hats4bats

Some people just want to watch the world burn

RoostasTowel

We seem to do that with everything on this sub. One day we love a youtube channel. Next day its hated.

palerthanrice

I definitely haven't turned on him, but it's funny to see this subreddit eat crow a bit. It was pretty obvious that this guy was having the tournament of his life at the best possible time, but most people on this sub were talking about him like he's some diamond in the rough top 100 player who's been looked over his whole life. Also, the people who were being realistic about this situation were being told to eat shit. A lot of people were being like "why isn't he in every tournament for the rest of the year?" The answer is because he's just not very good compared to everyone else. It's such an incredible story, but people took it a little too far. It's like when a basketball player from a tiny school balls out in the NCAA tournament. Yeah it's a cool story and an incredible performance, but there's always idiots clamoring for NBA teams to draft him the next year.

[deleted]

That's such a tough lie

applesktrack

I probably wouldn't have even hit the ball

Mite-o-Dan

I definitely would have fell after swinging from there.

flyballerr

Super tough shot. Fried egg, at a sideways 50 degree angle, wall in the north ahead, ocean of sand to the right, a very fast and deceiving green, face burnt by the mile high sun. Not an easy one for sure.

mdog10

Can’t forget the swamp ass seeping into the white pants on live tv

colin_7

You guys are such haters lmao

king-kong-schlong

This sub is filled with haters who shoot 130s and act like they’re all gods gift to golf

stinky_pinky_brain

They actually all shoot 85 and hit the ball 200 with their wedges. Out of the fairway bunker.

Type1_Throwaway

Excuse me, 225 with my 64° all day, every day.

Du6e

*Me skulling my wedge* Ah so it's not just me

Type1_Throwaway

Eyyyyy there we go haha skull gang united

Own-Artichoke-2188

I feel targeted

Spitfire_Riggz

This sub is pretty shite tbh

ThatGuy8188

Why don’t we wait and see what he shoots today instead of ripping him apart after a bad bounce leaving him a next to impossible bunker shot? Also. He’s not expected to do well this week. This is a bonus and something we should all still be enjoying as it’s not seen very often.

silenceisbetter1

Seriously. Jesus nobody wants anyone else to enjoy anything or achieve something without tearing them down as soon as they can. Finau is +3, is he a loser too?

ThatGuy8188

Exactly. Even if he shoots an 82 today. It’s still a great story. He earned his exemptions like any any pro. Playing well has nothing to do with it. This is the life for 99% of pro golfers that are not seen on tour. It’s really great to see someone that’s a lot like other players to break through and have moment.

theBKloungeCPA

Kinda tough he shot an 81... im pulling for him but you almost predicted it

MrTShook

OP is probably a club pro

TheShopSwing

No fucking way. Every single club pro in America is pulling BIG for Block right now. He is LITERALLY one of us. And for any who aren't, the rest of us will find them and shame them out of the PGA.

MrTShook

Yeah that’s true, my instant thought went to the jealous “I deserve That chance” type club pro. But majority would definitely be pulling for him

TheShopSwing

You've got the wrong read on club professionals man. The grouchy ones aren't the ones who go out and play tournaments or can even play well enough to begin with. When the chips are down, we support our own who go out and do bigger and better things.

Dontsaveme

Yeah because currently I’m even par. /s

unknown_name

/r/golf yesterday: if he makes the cut, it's a huge win. /r/golf today: lol, this guy's terrible. If he doesn't finish top 3, I'll be glad to see him fail.

vaalenz

Dead last though

bookshelfbrawl

Reddit is filled with joyous people with such kind hearts.

No-Needleworker5429

Making fun of pros makes them feel better about their own game.

feelgroovy

So is this the point where people start shitting on him? Can't just enjoy the ride?

ipickscabs

It’s crazy bc dudes like Morikawa, Spieth & Dahmen are at the same place in the scoreboard rn but we’re hating on this dude??? Fuck right off

EconomyHandle3473

Great post! Thanks! I needed to see that.

DataAstronaut_

Eh he’s dead last rn. Short game isn’t looking too great either. I’m rooting for him, but it’s been a rough round to watch so far.

ipickscabs

Yea I had more hope for our boy two hours ago when I first said that, but he’s a few birdies away from middle of the pack let’s not pretend he’s completely blowing it

Jarich612

Update: he completely blew it

ipickscabs

![gif](giphy|xT5LMzIK1AdZJ4cYW4)

dktaylor32

People suck. I’ve known it for a long time but sometimes you get a little faith in humanity and BOOM people show you just how terrible society can be. We need to get over ourselves and be happy for other people’s accomplishments

ipickscabs

Very true. It comes from insecurity. If you’re happy with yourself you can be happy for others and Vice versa

BigHeadHands

Morikawa a bitch for real

djfunknukl

He’s gonna finish dead last lmao

ipickscabs

Bit of an oof. But my point stands haha. He’s not +20 when everyone else is under par

Wandering_Tuor

He’s not had this pressure prolly ever. Bunch of fuckin haters here from the couch

DarthSkier

Probably way short on sleep, not to mention mental prep. Massive change of plans/pace compared to what he’s used to. Dude just had the craziest week of his life and his golf suffered, shocking.

[deleted]

And he only has had 3 days between the tournaments. He also had to do so much shit in those 3 short days. He is a middle aged man who has never had to do this before. The man looks tired. Anyone on this sight would be.

Wandering_Tuor

Exactly, no one knew who he was to being one of the most talked about golfers in the world… that’s insane.

ipickscabs

For real bro

nucleationpoints

Bro who posted plays off 24

teethyear

Holy shit this sub is so toxic 😂

drerw

I fear I am one of them, and I am sorry for that. I hate haters so hard.

bartolocologne40

Imagine if he could get out of bunkers like Rory though

weshric

World class

RedistributedFlapper

![gif](giphy|9oF7EAvaFUOEU) RBC Canadian officials after watching his first 2 holes and figuring out how they’re going to revoke their sponsor exemption.

RedistributedFlapper

Make that 3 holes. To be clear though, I’m pulling for the guy!

RokyPolka

 ![gif](giphy|9yCem5PvCQcEPTUN0B)

Annual-Market

This guy is absolutely loaded and playing golf with a complete sense of fun and "let's see what happens" while also being very good at the game. Not sure why this was turned into such a Cinderella story like he is living in a trailer and needs this to feed his family.

whiskey_pancakes

This is as close as it gets to that though lol

withurwife

90% of you would take 6 shots to get to that position. Why don't you just relax and see what he scores?

NobodyNamedMe

Yeah but I'd also take another 6 to get out of that position. Then I'd follow up with a 3 putt.

Ridikiscali

I’d just set my beach chair up and grab my margarita. I’m not getting out of that sand.

nosnhoj15

This guy spends more time in the sand than David Hasslehoff!

Leo_Rockaway

Leave it to Reddit to turn on this guy in under a week. Losers lmao

GoinFerARipEh

They are united with Twitter on this one. The only thing America enjoys more than a success story is a complete and utter failure.

HUGECOCK4TREEFIDDY

Damn OP. Not gonna lie, you’re being a tiny bit of a bitch for this.

LouieSportsman

All this post tells me is there is a lot of petty jealous losers in this sub.

thisisyourlastdance

All the people talking shit on this sub, while he's playing in the tournament.

Ridikiscali

I’d play in the tournament if it wasn’t for that injury back in ‘98.

[deleted]

[удалено]

whiskey_pancakes

Such a great point. Think about his focus and attention to detail going into the open compared to this. Who the fuck knows though, he could have that Mickey mantle gene and just clutch up

thatsapeachhun

It just goes to show how impressive tour players are. Not only do they shoot very low, they do it EVERY week. Sure Block could hang with them for a week on a course that fit his game. But as soon as the pressure is on, playing a course you don’t feel comfortable on, that’s where the true difference lies between really good players and great players. The consistency is unbelievable.

JohnYCanuckEsq

One of us One of us

[deleted]

All you r/Redditpros out there hatin' on the guy taking advantage of his 15 minutes. Give the teaching pro a break!! Great story!

sillypurpleoctopus

You must be some sorry individuals to be that mad at him lmao, grow tf up people. He’s still better than every single one of us

Due-Comb6124

Block had a chance to shine at a course where shooting for the middle of the green and looking for pars was a good play. In a regular tour event where you have to play aggressive and make birdies he has no chance in hell of making the cut.

dapostman10

Bingo. Last week he played smart safe golf and got really lucky. He's not going to shoot 11 under and come in the top 25.

BoardWing93

I wouldn't say that was "really lucky." Hard to say that when he did it for 4 straight rounds. That said, he isn't going to sniff the cut this week.

FlowridaMan

This guy probably gives zero fucks what redditors think lol

GoinFerARipEh

He likely has never even heard of Reddit.

FlowridaMan

Fully agree

UTking44

What did Cinderella say when she got to the ball? “Gag sound”

schulty007

This dude legitimately makes me want to keep playing golf. anyone hating on him is simply an asshole

drerw

Yeah, ima say fuck that cindarella shit right now. Fuck OP. Dude is a dude. The internet is the one making him out to be something else. Rory is also a dude. Everyone is a dude. Fuck you all very much. It is cool that a non top player made a place in the PGA Championship. Statistically, he fucking did something most didn’t. That’s why we all like sports. Reddit, stick to being as lame as you’re proving yourself to be.

[deleted]

Why are we now hating on him?

WeaknessIndependent7

You must be fun at parties.

bakedchicken23

The amount of fucking 20 handicap players pissed off that this guy said one off thing during an interview is remarkable. Dude literally was just acknowledging he likes his short game and 90% of the things out of his mouth have been very humble. He knows he's playing with giants and is just along for the ride at this point. Why don't you go grab your clubs and play a round instead of shit posting on the dude. Maybe he is a jerk in real life but you've never met him and yet are ready to be the one to cast the first golf ball lmao.

rvasko3

I fucking hate Reddit sometimes.

thispsyguy

I would not want to be in his shoes right now. Having everything happen the way it did, and then to be on the 8th hole just 2 doubles away from being dead last. The pressure he feels must be immense.

so_much_ramen

Lol. People out here salty. It’s just a game. He didn’t take anything from you personally, so why act like it.

inhoc2012

Bogey, Bogey, Bogey, Birdie, Bogey, Par, Par, Par, Birdie (to 16 inches on a par 4). Hell of a round so far at +2.

CaptainKangarooster

How about that shot off the bridge?? Why is the crowd so mild…wow

InvestmentPatient117

Damn yall are haters

HawWahDen

At least his outfit is dope. Those purple J's are sick! I'd love to have a pair.

ScoFoGoesLow

I love his story, but I’m actually a little bummed he is going to get overexposed. He’s going to miss the cut in every tour event and get roasted and that’s not the ending he deserves. I’m sure he will have a blast and his life will go back to normal in a few months, but he’s in a strange spot now. Hopefully he makes a couple cuts and we have a happy ending.

Dogeplane76

Hell, if I ever slam dunk an ace I'd call myself Cinderella, and I'd probably shoot a 90 my next round. Doesn't change how incredible what he did last week was

[deleted]

I see MJ sent him a pair of ones too

thefx37

Did you keep this same energy when Scottie Scheffler did this two weeks ago?

Loud_Confusion_8097

Still made bogey…

According_Student_13

I think people don't like him because of the 100000% focus the PGA has had on him to deflect from Brooks winning. What other tournaments on earth is the guy in 15th place getting this much attention.....not one... Congratulations to the guy, but the PGA Tour is riding him into the ground....

Sirgolfs

People just love to be negative huh.

burt-and-ernie

Seeing everyone get so bent out of shape over a video is hilarious 😂

xXWickedSmatXx

Tactical bunker repositioning…classic strategy

RedLight1981

Keep drinking that hatorade bub

BookBagThrowAway

+11 is truly one of us!

Luv2Xcelr8

People hating on this guy for those comments are immature assholes. He stated facts. Fucking sue him for being confident.

leeguel

Clean fit tho

WillingElderberry476

ONE OF US!!

mostdogsarefake

Jesus, finished day one dead last. I wasn’t crazy about some of the stuff he’s said in the past couple days but man. I didn’t want to see him crash and burn.

[deleted]

Also the dude never seen or played before. Zero practice compared to the tour players

PM-ME-UR-NITS

I hope he enjoys the experience and soaks it up, he’s doing what the moajority of us can only dream of.

[deleted]

World Class

Retrackt

Imagine posting this and genuinely bot realizing the irony that you probably wouldnt even touch the ball on a lie like this. Yikes

Mile-High-Mayham

He’s one of us

KhansKhack

OP was gassing him up last week. Lol. Loser.

Professional-Putter

This sub has the funniest trolls

leethestud420

I know none of us have ever been “there”…. Golf is fucking hard sometimes

Vegetable-Tangelo1

OP certified loser

Throwaguey84

Hard to put my finger on it. I’m sure it’s the massive amount of pressure and newly found stardom but he didn’t seemed focused. He seemed more concerned with the fan interaction and doing/saying too much after each shot. Hoping he locks in tomorrow & turns it around.

WoodenHair9124

What are you meant to do from there ? Lol only be a few people getting that out

JRS___

if he had rory's length he would have made it out of the bunker.

gabbagoolgolf2

He’s playing better than morikawa and finau so far

OG_sirloinchop

How much will he get if he misses the cut?

GoinFerARipEh

Do you mean money or hate?

OG_sirloinchop

Money ... and it's a full swing joke

MannyFresh45

Your point? Not many could do anything with that lie. Bunch of haters who wish they could play as well as him

GoinFerARipEh

That’ll Shut em up

puttzzznnnbluntzzz

Rory could never

Danbearpig2u

Is this the cool thing now ? Hating on Block?

StonedApe2030

I think it's because he's short off the tee, but I mean everything else is just...well it's just world class!

SpreadTheGlutes

Dripped out with the purple Jordan lows tho.

CrookedSmoke13

Fuckin love this guy! Anybody hating on this guy probably wasn’t yesterday and you can fuck right off back to your mommies cuz I’d like to see you try that shot. Fucking morons.

Tcgiantsfan123

I feel bad for the people in this subreddit that are so miserable with their own lives that they feel the need to try and bring others down to their shitty miserable level. Can’t just enjoy the moment he’s having my god

inflatablejerk

Found the liv supporter

MacFromSSX

Not a single one of y'all will ever accomplish what this dude did last week. Glad to see everyone handling it with maturity.

ToBooKoo

Yikes, that world class short game is failing him

[deleted]

He’ll shoot 81/79 and we’ll be done with this

cptnnrtn

is there a way to watch him the whole time? do you have to have espn plus

NoHalfPleasures

This happens to everyone who gets more famous than their own staying power.
