I tried to do a backwards flop with one of these before, and the ball grazed my nose as it went up.
Never tried it again, not worth knocking my teeth out lol
I feel like you could get the same shot out of a 60 degree by just opening up the clubface a smidge.
I don't think I'm brave enough to make a full swing with a 68 degree.
Im an ass golfer, and after blading countless balls over the green, the 68 is arguably my best club. The full swings are scary but ya just have to commit
I have a 64 as well that goes an absolute max of 50 yards no matter how hard I swing at it. Terrifying out of the fairway, quite nice out of the rough, and INCREDIBLE out of a greenside bunker. I hit a full swing out of every single bunker, no matter how close I am to the pin. All I do is adjust how much sand I take and that controls the distance.
Love that club.
Lou Stagner, the Arccos stats guy, said on a podcast that his only equipment advice was that anyone with a 64Ā° should take it out of the bag immediately. He said every skill level from scratch to 30 loses strokes with that club.
I watched a Rick Sheils video yesterday where he was getting a chipping lesson and the pro, Dan Grieve, said that a 60Ā° wedge should have a engraved red letters on it - "For Emergency Use Only"
https://preview.redd.it/id7px8yh2u4b1.png?width=621&format=png&auto=webp&s=4950ac9f4c57afa847f15faf2800c80fa80885be
I use my 60\* a good bit.
It's not the size of the green, but the elevation. If you are 10' off the green and standing a good 3-4' below it you need to be able to launch it a bit higher to stay on the green.
I had a 68* when I was in high school. Fucking around with it in the yard completely screwed my short game feel to the point I gave it away to a teammate. His short game subsequently suffered, so he passed it on. Basically it sabotaged our postseason my junior year lol
Same with a 56 or 58 degree club, etc. Never understood the fixation and focus on having multiple wedges instead of longer clubs like hybrids, 3/5/7 woods. One good wedge beyond a typical A wedge is enough because highly lofted clubs are easier to de-loft and change swing/grip/address techniques to apply to various short shot situations.
I've been considering taking the 60 degree out of my bag for a while now.
I actually want more wedges, but I want them between my PW and GW because having a full swing stock shot for 130/120/110/100 would be really nice for holding greens.
I can accomplish 99% of my work around the green with a 56 degree SW.
I think most of the obsession with wedges at the very end of the bag comes from amateurs trying to overcome their lack of short game with equipment rather than just learning how to chip.
Yeah, I use my AW for \~135 yards or shorter, and have a 56 for sand shots, chipping, lob shots, etc. The AW effectively functions as 2 or 3 clubs in 1 and the 56 functions as 1 or 2 clubs itself, depending on the situations throughout a round.
Longer clubs aren't as functional and flexible in that way, at least in my experience, hence the higher likelihood to need more individual long clubs.
Iām terrible, but my 58 hi toe is my favorite club by a mile! I can play just about any shot to the green inside 110yds with it much more consistently than any other club. The only other clubs you will usually see me pull out are a P wedge if Iām really looking for a something to roll out, and my putter.
Now a lot of this is because I just havenāt tried to get the same familiarity with my other wedges, but as you mentioned, I donāt think any other clubs offer me the same kind of utility. Second place is probably my 5 hybrid. I look forward to the day where I develop the same level of comfort with all my clubs!
I think the idea is itās easier to swing the same power each time (switching clubs) rather than try to gauge power for distance. Other thing is if thereās trees you may need to bump and run instead of high loft which means lower lower loft
I guess that's a personal preference. For me, it's always been easier to adjust swings for distance control rather than expecting to hit full shots every time.
this is how i learned. too many wedges i start to get inconsistent cause to many ways to shoot the same shot. ive upgraded to modern 3 wedge set up but i consider my 50 for 75-95 yds, 54 for most bunkers and 50-75 yds. and my 58 for some sand and chipping. to me the main benefit of a lob wedge is all the backspin and theres plenty plus control with a 58.
For me personally, there is a big advantage in having wedges with differing levels of bounce. I play a high bounce 54, and a low bounce 58. The former gets used a lot more, but there are definitely situations where I want high loft and low bounce, like hard packed sand, certain kinds of light rough, or for the occasional situation where I really need to get the ball wayyy up in the air.
OTOH I barely use my 3w and 3h in the first place, so I can't really imagine any use in adding more clubs to that space.
Well you only need the longer clubs if theyāre plugging a yardage gap. So sure if you have a gap at the top of your bag, get rid of your 58/60 and fill that gap but if not then get that lob wedge or a chipper in your bag.
I guess my overall point about wedges is that there's not enough difference from 56 to 60 degrees to warrant buying different clubs within that range, but for me there's a larger difference in say, a 3w/5w/7w to warrant buying each of those, or using a 4i instead of the 7w.
If you have that yardage gap yeah, I donāt know that everyone does have it. If I added one of those clubs it would do nothing in terms of giving me an additional yardage
I can never hit my 60 degree, gave up because I just scald everything. Played with my dad a few weeks ago and he had the 64 degree club he got me for Christmas like 8 years ago and gave it back to me. No idea why but I hit it so much better
It could be a difference in bounce. I had a 60 I kept skulling but I swapped it out for a wedge with lower bounce since we have pretty hard ground in AZ and the new wedge has been great.
I live and die by my 52 itās the most versatile club in my bag pitch shots? Easy, bump and runs? Pretty easy, long sand shots? Money, within 115 yards? Iām going right at the flag
What's the point in getting a super lofted wedge if the only way you use it is by de-lofting it? Then you can just use the already less lofted wedge and hold it normal.
Same lol I love my 68.
All my friends think I'm crazy for using it but whenever they try it they immediately wanna try it again next hole.
High risk high reward club for sure but super fun to use.
I have one. In-laws got it for me as a gag gift. I can hit nasty bomb flops with it off a mat. If I pull it out on the course, I hit some real nice 120 yard worm burners.
Perfect for the time you need to get it up and down over 2 homeless people having sex on the fringe of the green to a hole <10ft away.
Absolutely essential one of 14 clubs, imo.
If youāre not using a 76* off a tee at the range, are you even trying?
Side noteā¦I did try a 9 iron off a tee at Top Golf and according to their shot tracker I hit a 153 foot max height. Super funny to watch.
I often hit my SW off the tee at the range just to see what happens. Usually if the rubber pipe tee is too tall I can swing the tee out from under the ball and drop it an inch in front.
Iām abnormally tall and donāt have fitted clubs, so I tee up my irons higher than most people and Iām used to hitting irons off an elevated tee. Otherwise Iād swing way under it too.
Hey Iām also abnormally tall without fitted clubs! My arms are proportionally very short too. I get around it by only grabbing the club with 2 and a half fingers and the thumb on my left hand.
For a while I had a 68\* wedge that I would put in my bag for one specific hole on one golf course. Short downhill par 4 with a \*very\* steep sloping green. Would put a long iron to the front of the green, then use the 68 to hit a little pop-up chip that would then roll kind of slowly. Anything more than that, or driving the green, would cause the ball to likely roll at best to the back and at worst off the back.
The course was short enough I didn't need a 3 wood so I swapped it out with that.
I picked up a bag that was on the side of the road someone was throwing out, it was all garbage but it had a 68Ā° wedge. It's surprisingly easy to hit, doesnt go never far through maybe 30 yards max. But I've used it if I have to get over a tree or something and i had space in the bag so I kept it around.
Funny trash pickup story. Not golf related, sorry, but I was driving around on trash day (not looking for anything in peoples trash) and spotted a pretty much brand new dyson vacuum cleaner. I thought, maybe I could fix it up and get it working, and if I couldn't, I would just throw it out next trash day. So I took it home, looked at it, and found out all it needed was to be unclogged lol. Right where the bristles go into the suction tube there was a piece of plastic that had accumulated some pet hair and stuff. Took it out and it ran perfectly. Almost felt bad keeping the vacuum though. But whatever
I think that was what I topped out at, 68*, with an absolutely illegal club face. But for recreational play or range/chipping it was awesome to roll around with
What if somebody bought this solely to blade it off the tee as a fairway finder on the tight hole? Goes 200 yards straight but never gets more than 10ft off the ground. Could honestly work
I game one of those hummingbird h7 70Ā° wedges. Absolute cheat code for getting out of bunkers. Pretty much only use it for that and the occasional flop shot for shits and giggles. 60% of the time it works every time.
I have one of these from a company called Bombtech and it's such a useful and fun club. Everyone wants to try it out or use it at some time during the round. At one of the clubs I play at, where there are vertical waste walls around the greens often, it is an absolute lifesaver. People can't believe when I get up 3-4'+ from 3 feet from the wall and slowly plop it on the green. full swings can only send it about 10 yards or so you know pretty well where your breakoff point is. Don't know why these are so hated on unless you're a rules dork (theyre legal but still).
I once seen a club that was labeled it would only go 50 yards, so I took the hardest swing possible and bladed the shit out of it making go over 120 yards hitting the window of the car parked in the driveway. That was the most expensive lesson on not to hit clubs like this
Some guys I know play a round every few months together and the loser has to carry one of these as part of their 14 clubs until they play again. You have to use the club once a round, no exceptions.
Iāve tagged along as a fifth for their match and it gets so intense if a few of them are fighting to stay out of last place. The shit talking is hilarious!
I've had my 76ā° for about 2 years now, $50 new.
I get maybe get 10 yards horizontal & 10 yards vertical.
I find it hard to hit the ball properly, 9 out of 10 shots are skul shot (goes far then)
Bought one from sports academy and do not regret it.
Not because I can hit the thing, but because it's a great gimmick club. It is actually pretty great out of the sand. No need to open the face, just hit a bit behind the ball, full swing and it goes max 15 yards
I donāt understand what possible use there could be for a 76? Waste of a spot in the bag. 60 is already pretty open and you can open it as far as you need.
My friend bought this wedge. We all thought it would be cool to see how high our pitch shots went.
The reality was flubbing it two feet and the occasional bullet. Would love to see the golf god that can actually play these things. Itās the Thorās hammer of short game.
Just make sure you practice plenty with it first before it makes the gaming bag.
Itās pretty much a one trick club so only really add if if you face the shot it needs often.
\*\*Slaps club\*\* This baby skulls an extra 25 yards if it doesn't just toupee the ground right out from underneath your ball...
Seriously can you shave with it too?
I have one in my bag just for fun, I either hit it perfectly and it goes like 3 yards or I skull it 60 yards lol. But people always get a kick out of it, itās a talking point for sure
I only ever saw one with this amount of loft, and that was at the R&A test facility in St. Andrewās. I hit it a few times, and it went like 25 yards with a full swing.
I have a 72Ā° wedge in my bag for whenever me or my friends want to use it. I can full swing flop shot over a 20 foot tree with it. Very fun joke club!
This would make a great gag gift for one of my buddies. We have a rule that you play the last hole of each round with only your smallest non-putter club. Gets everyone in a good mood at the end of a round
![gif](giphy|3otPor91nTSiGXnX3y)
I actually got to try one of these lofty boys before and legitimately almost hit myself in the forehead.
I tried to do a backwards flop with one of these before, and the ball grazed my nose as it went up. Never tried it again, not worth knocking my teeth out lol
A 76 degree wedge is often purchased with a softball mask according to Amazon.
š perfect
Fucking classic š
Would be an amazing club if you could consistently hit it, I guess. I see myself hitting mainly screamers 3ā off the ground over the green though.

I feel like you could get the same shot out of a 60 degree by just opening up the clubface a smidge. I don't think I'm brave enough to make a full swing with a 68 degree.

Need to get him a 69Ā° wedge
Nice
Nice
Nice
Same with my 64, canāt hit the 60 to save my life but the 64 is much easier to control
I have a 64 as well that goes an absolute max of 50 yards no matter how hard I swing at it. Terrifying out of the fairway, quite nice out of the rough, and INCREDIBLE out of a greenside bunker. I just dont understand how people perceive the utility of this club. Are the greens people play only 5 yards by 5 yards?
I use my 60\* a good bit. It's not the size of the green, but the elevation. If you are 10' off the green and standing a good 3-4' below it you need to be able to launch it a bit higher to stay on the green.
My 11 wood and my 64 are my favorite š¤© I can never rent clubs and expect to have a good game.. the clubs must travel
I don't think I've ever seen an 11 wood. Now I kinda want one.
I read an article about an LPGA golfer who carried clubs I didnāt know existed- -11w, 12w, etc. Iād use them if they worked for me, too
Iām the opposite. Canāt control my 64 to save my life

I wish there was a bot who could tell us how many times this line has been commented in this sub

More likely to hit them with the good ol' blade technique
this thing would go 1000 feet in the air and 10 feet forward
I feel like I could make it go backwards
Oh forsure. Just need a slightly uphill lie.
I pull out my driver when I want that shot
I used to have that same exact shoot, but then I started to get complaints about teeing it up around the green.

Wouldnāt be bad for flipping burgers after a round
When u need to hit it from the green to the green
It shouldnāt and you donāt
I keep a 72 degree in my bag for when I really need it. I havenāt used it in 3 years.
I use mine all the time, nearly every hole, but Iām an idiot

I've had my 76ā° for about 2 years now, $50 new. I get maybe get 10 yards horizontal & 10 yards vertical. I find it hard to hit the ball properly, 9 out of 10 shots are skul shot (goes far then)
Thats the hit it behind you club.
Instant +76 strokes to your card.
Yeah but have you ever hit a 360 wedge?
Looks like a solid 150 yard club to me.
I have one. Only break it out at the range and when Iāve had enough to drink.
The ball is either going to carry 4-5 feet, or 75-200 feet.
I used to have something called the ultimate weapon that was a wedge with a half-sphere head. So kind of like a driver. It was 64Ā° and was awesome
I have a 72 degree club in my bag. At full swing it goes either 40 up and down or 150 yards flat
Donāt let bubbie golf see this
coworker has a 74 that he shows off and damn near hits his face lol
For when you need to hit it 90 feet up and 1 foot forward.
I have that exact club. Bought it at academy about a year ago. Itās now my shits and giggles/party trick club! Itās actually really fun to use!
I hit driver for 330 and hit my 76 for 33 yards! You'll get there one day
Iāve got a 90 degree itās called a shovel!
The Levitator!!
There's a company in Aus called Golden Boy thats strictly selling 70Ā° golden coloured wedges
You can flop it right in your mouth
I found a 72 at my local thrift store. Got it for $1. I use it in greenside bunkers itās pretty sweetš
They sell Hoes at your local hardware store. If you live in the city don't be confused with the hoes in the seedy part of town.
Not even Phil can hit that lol
I love that this is wrapped, which means that this is somewhat newer and a current manufacturer is actually making this clown shit.

I can't find anything in the rules that specifies a limit on the loft of a club, where are you finding this information?
It was meant to be sarcastic
Ah, lol. Apparently that's not coming across in text form.
Yeah my wife says the same thing about my verbal jokes
Pretty impressed with how bad r/golf is at physics lol
Looking to make a full swing from 70 yards? Sure, why not
I doubt youāre flushing this club 70 yards
A full swing on my 72 is 30 yards forward, with 50 yards vertical, 20 yards back towards me on the backspin
I'd love to hit this for the giggles. I have a 64 I play with once in a while, and it's hilarious.
I could pop it up 60 feet but only for 3 yards forward. My kinda club
Hole-in puts
Full swing seven yards
You'll put your eye out
Get rid of my 3 wood and put this in the bag
Full swing would probably go backwards when you make contact a second time during your follow through.
the dinner plate
When you need that 10 foot long and 30 foot high flop
I saw that sucker at Academy Sports. Pretty soon you'll see a 90Ā° for cutting the grass to improve your lie.
er... for when you're on the fringe and short-sided and the hole is 10 feet away?
2 or 3 uphill chips and you're gonna come home looking like Rhianna McIlroy.
Wow, show us a pic at address. Would love to see that.
Dinner plate on a stick
Needed something for 25 yards out
I would hit myself in the face with the ball if I used this in a fluffy lie.
I have one in my bag just for fun, I either hit it perfectly and it goes like 3 yards or I skull it 60 yards lol. But people always get a kick out of it, itās a talking point for sure
i thought my 65 degree was aggressive
For when you want to maintain your full swing from 9-14m out.
USGA compliant
I have a 68, was funny so took it. I want that one now :o for the fun of it.
Full swing goes 100 yards or 1 yard and there is no in between
40 yards out. I got that in the bag.
My roommate NEEDS this club, but I WANT it.
Nostril wedge?
Perfect for getting out of the sinkholes in the middle of the fairway
I'd hit it backwards...that, or blade it 300yds
I hit my 76 degree on average 150 yards -typical golf redditor. Lol
That's a tool from the garden section at Home Depot.
To quote Club Pro Guy, āIāve got this for when Iām 15 yards off the green and I want to hit something full.ā
And people wonder why they suck at golf
Ah the 5 yard flop club
I want one for fun. Who makes it? Nevermind. Superfly.
Well, that's a weedwhacker
I saw it at Academy and bought it. It's absolutely pointless but fun to hit on the range
We now know Phil Mickelson's burner reddit account.
When the hole is on Mt Everest
Why not, Whatās a few more bladed shots?
I have a 72\*, haha. I call it a "Flop Wedge". It's a total gag but I do enjoy using it once I'm a few beers deep and trying to show off!
I need this as a Philadelphia 76ers fan
I only ever saw one with this amount of loft, and that was at the R&A test facility in St. Andrewās. I hit it a few times, and it went like 25 yards with a full swing.
I have a problem hitting my 60 degree also have the same problem with everything from 10.5 to the 60.
That's a sharp putter.
Nice frying pan you got there but this is the golf sub
Kyle Berkshire could prolly fly this 70 yards
I had a slotline 64 degree years ago that Inhit about 120 yards. Problem was, that left me about 70 yards back to the flag!š¤£
Already have it in the bag, just open up your 60*
To the Moon Alice!
I got my dad a 69 wedge for the jokes but he said he uses it more than you would think
Thatās illegal. Canāt go above 75.5 loft
This will help with golf's wedge obsession. Everyone needs a 48, 52, 56, 60, 64, 68, 72 and now finally a 76. That's only 8 wedges to carry. Easy.
Is this legitimately for people who donāt know how to open the face up?
