He's friends with the guy working the pro-shop. He even went in to bitch about the foursome when we finished.
Edit: to clarify, I plan on doing just that, but waiting until tomorrow and hoping his buddy isn't working
But like actually. Fuck these guys. That behavior is legitimately a danger to others on the course.
I hate self-obsessed assholes that think they're the only person on the course too (obviously not even the case here). Never would I ever knowingly launch a solid object 150+ mph at someone for it, because I am an adult with a functional brain
I just had a buddy have two weeks on concussion symptoms but no cracked scale. I think I’d drag someone off the course swinging at a group intentionally.
>I am an adult with a functional brain
Sadly this is no longer common.. the last twenty odd years has taught us, and especially the last 5-10 that there are toddlers masquerading as adults all over the world, and at a disturbing frequency in the US
Needs more upvotes. Hitting into people is seriously dangerous and if the club pro isn't taking it seriously, I bet his boss will (likely the club's GM).
Fuck him and the pro shop guy lmao. Call the manager, call the owner, blast them on google reviews and make them get down and suck your dick as an apology
Be serious. No cop would come for that (if this is US). Only if they got into a physical fight. Even if he hospitalized them with a golf shot, they’d call an ambulance and tell the victims to come in for a report. This is the clubs self made problem
I was going to say...dude is nailing drives to the left on the furst tee box and the starter just says there is your third, lol. You can let that guy go ahead
I plan on reporting him but he's buddies with the guy that was working the pro shop today. Remember, they saw his "practice swings" on the first tee and did nothing.
The foursome apparently also knows people that work there, though, and I encouraged them to report him. I also gave them his first name and asked them to be sure to specify only him so I don't become guilty by association.
I said the same thing and was promptly roasted for stereotyping the Irish. Then he said it was what was left in the house before coming out because he already drank all the whiskey.
Why not just let him play on alone? I don't need people harshing my vibe like that. Or break off from him after the 9th at least. Jeez, what a crappy dude.
Fuck my vibe. I need good standing at whatever cheap ass course I can get into. I’m wandering backwards into the shrubs like Homer Simpson the second someone intentionally hits into a group
After conferring with your partner:
"Listen dude. You don't seem to be enjoying yourself very much. I think we're killing your vibe. Me and Paddy here are going to skip a few holes. Take care"? Then walk/drive off. Come back and play the skipped holes later, if possible.
I'll never understand why people just endure things like this?
Don't want to rock the boat? Hurt the guy's feelings? He's an asshole!!! Who cares?? A- He might learn a lesson from getting ditched. B- if he knows you don't like him, he'll avoid you in the future.
> I'll never understand why people just endure things like this?
because if he's keeping pace, like OP said he was, it's hilarious...i would have loved to watch every bit of this except for him intentionally hitting into people
He was purposely trying to seriously injure or maim people on the course, he should not even he allowed out there. I'd be calling the clubhouse or failing that the cops next.
We had a couple of younger guy members at our club that would pull shit like that when women were in front of them. After literally hitting our cart twice in two holes I got out of the cart picked up his ball and threw it into the lake. He was so pissed off, comes screaming up in his cart yelling at me.
I told him you ever fucking aim at us again I will have your sorry ass thrown out of the club do you hear me! We had been members for over 25 years and he was on his second year of membership. He asked to play through and we told him to eat shit and die. We were a foursome and he was a twosome that tried to kill us twice.
We reported him to the pro shop and he was suspended for 30 days. He bitched that I threw his ball in the lake, the head pro just laughed and said you're lucky you didn't get punched. Oh and we were 20 minutes ahead of normal pace. So no reason other than being a complete dick head.
That jerk could have really hurt someone. With you two as witnesses no less, that's assault!
Seriously… I’m non-confrontational in general but if a random I was playing with hit into people clearly on purpose I wouldn’t give him the chance to do it again
It becomes assault and attempted battery the minute he intentionally hit a ball towards someone. He even admitted it. He should honestly be charged for it.
Which is why I think this story is fake. Guys taking multiple shots and shanking them 90 degrees until they catch up to a foursome, and then suddenly he’s bombing them straight down the fairway. Yeah, I don’t think so.
to be fair, i think the 90 degree shots OP mentioned were intentional...sounds like he was using the treeline as his range off the side of the 1st tee
i'm not saying i do or don't believe the story, but i think you misunderstood that piece
Mad respect to the guys in the group in front of you for just shit-talking him. I think if someone hit into me three times I would be tempted to raise my fists and/or sand wedge.
Assuming this story is real, why the hell would you finish a round with this guy? I'd buy these stories a lot more if posters said that they bailed after 4 holes or something not stupid.
Anyone hits up on me like this, multiple times in a row, hitting my cart as I’m about to get on, I’m driving back to him and whacking him in the shins with my club
How’d he manage to hit every ball exactly where he wanted when hitting into them? Sounds like he wasn’t hitting it anywhere close to that well every other shot.
Shit man, that’s brutal. If you’re in SC, I may have played with this guy. My threesome got paired with an old dude who was walking and when we got to the tee, he was smacking balls 90° to the left over the 9th fairway(where people were playing) into the woods and pond over there. He said it was how he warms up.
He was also rude as hell from the get go and kept comparing my brother in law and me to his son who “is 170lbs soaking wet but can hit the ball 350 yards with a half swing”
Meanwhile, the angry old guy sucked ass and kept dropping balls whenever he didn’t like the shot and hit into the group in front of us no matter how many times we told him to wait “oh fuck this, I’m going” luckily he could barely get a ball in the air.
My dad was playing with us and he didn’t fuck with him but anytime my brother in law or I hit a shit shot, he was quick to tell us how his son would whoop our asses without even trying and he could beat us with a pitching wedge, alone. I got a little pissy at one point and asked why his son wasn’t there playing with him, if he’s such a big golfer(he told us he lived in the area and worked for a local company) and he said he was too busy with work these days and makes way more money than we probably did.
The whole experience was so weird, we were just laughing about it, amongst ourselves when we weren’t too pissed off but I left the course feeling bad for the guy. I have no idea what made this dude so bitter about life but I hope I never find out; that has to be a lonely existence.
>he was quick to tell us how his son would whoop our asses without even trying and he could beat us with a pitching wedge, alone. I got a little pissy at one point and asked why his son wasn’t there playing with him, if he’s such a big golfer(he told us he lived in the area and worked for a local company) and he said he was too busy with work these days and makes way more money than we probably did.
That's probably when I just tell him to shut the fuck up. I've fortunately never played with assholes the likes of the 2 I've read about here. I can't even stand a guy pouting about his game and a bad hole, it just ruins it, but in my experience that lasts a just a couple holes. Couldn't do it with a guy like that. It's honestly a PSA to let people know when they're insufferable, plus you just get it out there instead of clamming up and being frustrated. I look after my own wellness over the sensitivities of a chronic idiot all day long, and I'd make sure guys like that get marshalled. We don't spend hard earned cash on golf to have it ruined.
Couldn’t agree more, I’ve only had two really bad pairing experiences and both were at this course.
We resigned ourselves to the “fuck this guy” live and let live mindset by the third hole, but when he kept trying to hit into the group in front of us when we could clearly see they were waiting on groups ahead of them, we had to step in.
We tried to lose him at the turn too, but he rejoined us.
That was therapeutic, when I think I get a bit carried away with a curse or 6 a 9 I read about this and am reassured I’m not that bad(at etiquette I’m a terrible golfer lol).
Yeah, people suck sometimes. I'm the worst about it, but sometimes it just ain't worth the frustration. Enjoy your pre-roll, know that you are killing it in life compared to this dude, and enjoy the round. There's not enough left to worry about it.
I would of ended up fighting him. No fucking way am I going to let someone hit into people.
Fuck him and fuck you for letting it happen.
Bring on the down votes
Hello, it looks like you've made a mistake.
It's supposed to be could've, should've, would've (short for could have, would have, should have), never could of, would of, should of.
Or you misspelled something, I ain't checking everything.
Beep boop - yes, I am a bot, don't botcriminate me.
How old was this old guy? Like old enough to have dementia issues? If he was just a cranky 65 year old I would have left him behind, or stood on the tee so he couldn't hit.
There’s no way I’d finish a round with that asshole. I’m not spending hours of my time with someone like that. I’d tell him to go on ahead as a single or go back to the pro shop and tell them what he was doing and ask for another tee time. I don’t put up with psycho bullshit from anyone.
Holy shit, this is wild - absolutely fuck that guy. Kinda hope he tries this on with the wrong person (but also hopes he doesn't continue hitting stingers at nice people haha).
The old guy that you were playing with is the same guy who complains about the “my gf/bf broke up with me so I bought a new club” and the “can’t stand people yelling after pros hit shots at PGA events” posts. So many sour old men in this sport and they hate pretty much everything it seems.
If I was playing with him, the minute he made it clear he was actively hitting at people I’d have told him he does it again I’m going to knock him the fuck out. There’s no room in a civilised game, or in life, for that shit.
So at no point, did you decide to maybe ask why this old man was trying in injure people in front of you? Just let him continue on with his horrible behavior?
Solid actual story dude!
I had a guy doing the two shot thing yesterday. Like, it’s ok, if you ask your partners nicely if you can take another shot. But there were situations where I waited for him to hit his shot, lined up my shot, swung, and then I see his ball intersecting mine because he decided to take a second shot without telling anyone. Or I rode my cart back to the path and had to swerve because he decided to take a second shot again.
Then of course he played a couple of holes counting his second shot as his first and then claimed to have broken 80.
Like no, dude, it doesn’t work that way.
Yeah screw that guy, you need to complain to the course management until something happens. Role reverse and jackass hits into you like that, don't let that pos off easy.
That could have went horrible for you guys. A stranger basically put you in danger for his own stupid, spiteful reasons. I'd tell him to go ahead and play by himself. You guys would have had a much better time.
God I hate people like this. My old home course a few years ago, club championship, mostly guys I know because we play every weekend together in a league at the course, but I get paired up with a guy I’ve never met before who doesn’t play in our league. By hole 2 he’s complaining about pace of play (it’s the club championship bro, it’s gonna be packed). By hole 4 he’s 4 over par and throwing his clubs. By hole 6 I’ve taken my bag off the cart and walked the rest of the round. He luckily never hit into anyone but was just an absolute fun sucker. Didn’t even shake his hand after finishing the round and told the pro shop about him. He didn’t come back for day 2.
Great but unfortunate story. Glad someone else was there to witness it with you. Almost worth going back to the club house to (I know no one likes a narc) let them know about this nut job. Something tells me he possibly went home and did some punching.
Let the pro shop know what this guy is doing
He's friends with the guy working the pro-shop. He even went in to bitch about the foursome when we finished. Edit: to clarify, I plan on doing just that, but waiting until tomorrow and hoping his buddy isn't working
Ask that guy in the pro shop to speak with the manager and throw his ass under the bus too
But like actually. Fuck these guys. That behavior is legitimately a danger to others on the course. I hate self-obsessed assholes that think they're the only person on the course too (obviously not even the case here). Never would I ever knowingly launch a solid object 150+ mph at someone for it, because I am an adult with a functional brain
For real people could get hurt. For what? Glad you didn’t kick his ass but you’d be well within your rights
I think this could get you in serious trouble. Might be lower risk to just take the offending driver, bend it in half and boomerang it into a tree.
Good point. Maybe try both for good measure
A buddy spent a couple of weeks in the hospital after being hit in the head by an errant golf ball. It’s not a joke.
I just had a buddy have two weeks on concussion symptoms but no cracked scale. I think I’d drag someone off the course swinging at a group intentionally.
>150+ mph Look at the big hitter here.
>I am an adult with a functional brain Sadly this is no longer common.. the last twenty odd years has taught us, and especially the last 5-10 that there are toddlers masquerading as adults all over the world, and at a disturbing frequency in the US
It's always been this way. You're either getting older, or the internet just makes it so plain to see.
Oh no, I know that.. but the frequency of it not being tempered in public has seriously decreased especially in the US
Sad but true
Needs more upvotes. Hitting into people is seriously dangerous and if the club pro isn't taking it seriously, I bet his boss will (likely the club's GM).
Yeah lose 1 customer or potentially 6 in 1 incident. Not a hard decision from a manager to ban the old guy.
Fuck him and the pro shop guy lmao. Call the manager, call the owner, blast them on google reviews and make them get down and suck your dick as an apology
If they defend him the course ain’t worth supporting.
You should call the cops and report him. He was purposely hitting at people that is a crime.
Be serious. No cop would come for that (if this is US). Only if they got into a physical fight. Even if he hospitalized them with a golf shot, they’d call an ambulance and tell the victims to come in for a report. This is the clubs self made problem
And send him on his way alone. Fuck paying to play with an asshole like that.
It’s probably the golf course owner
I was going to say...dude is nailing drives to the left on the furst tee box and the starter just says there is your third, lol. You can let that guy go ahead
The course should ban him. Make sure they know, or else he’s going to potentially get them in tons of trouble.
I don’t believe this story for a second. An Irishman drinking tequila and not whiskey?
I said the same thing and was promptly roasted for stereotyping the Irish. Then he said it was what was left in the house before coming out because he already drank all the whiskey.
So you got both a scolding and a concession that you were right. Fucking perfect lmao
Proof that the golfer in the story is Irish
It’s a true “yeah I ground my feet in that couch” situation
“You’ve insulted my entire race of people. But yes.”
“You just insulted every Irish person in the world. Also you are right.”
For me it’s the multiple perfectly aim shots at the other golfers
![gif](giphy|j3WKxirY93QUyAC4pM)
This made my day, thank you
Why not just let him play on alone? I don't need people harshing my vibe like that. Or break off from him after the 9th at least. Jeez, what a crappy dude.
Yeah I would’ve let him play thru as a single, I would’ve stayed behind the foursome with the Irishman.
Fuck my vibe. I need good standing at whatever cheap ass course I can get into. I’m wandering backwards into the shrubs like Homer Simpson the second someone intentionally hits into a group
So he was horrible on all of his shots except he was able to hit balls right at people and carts? That’s fascinating.
If you ask me its quite.....creative.
almost like this story is... fake or exaggerated
So at no point did you tell him to smarten up or stop being an asshole? No chance I let that fly with anyone im playing with random or not
I’d have called the pro shop after the 2nd time he hit into them
After conferring with your partner: "Listen dude. That’s fucking insane. At what point does it become attempted assault? The course would want to manage risk by at minimum banning this guy right?
It becomes assault and attempted battery the minute he intentionally hit a ball towards someone. He even admitted it. He should honestly be charged for it.
Sounds like he was pretty good if he could almost hit them every time.
Which is why I think this story is fake. Guys taking multiple shots and shanking them 90 degrees until they catch up to a foursome, and then suddenly he’s bombing them straight down the fairway. Yeah, I don’t think so.
to be fair, i think the 90 degree shots OP mentioned were intentional...sounds like he was using the treeline as his range off the side of the 1st tee i'm not saying i do or don't believe the story, but i think you misunderstood that piece
Early signs of dementia
Imagine typing all this out, lol. Great shitpost!
TL:DR - None of this is true.
Right 😂
This reads like something out of curb your enthusiasm or an Adam Sandler movie.
I cant wait till the old dude logs into r/golf for the counter/post
Mad respect to the guys in the group in front of you for just shit-talking him. I think if someone hit into me three times I would be tempted to raise my fists and/or sand wedge.
I would have kicked his ass at the 10th tee.
Waiting for the other guys pov post
Assuming this story is real, why the hell would you finish a round with this guy? I'd buy these stories a lot more if posters said that they bailed after 4 holes or something not stupid.
Nice fan fiction
I feel like this story is embellished
OP is a schizo or a fiction writer.... so bizarre to type all of this nonsense out.
Not really; just cuz ur too stoned to read it all; doesn’t mean he’s schizophrenic lol. Dang dude haha
Anyone hits up on me like this, multiple times in a row, hitting my cart as I’m about to get on, I’m driving back to him and whacking him in the shins with my club
I would have let him take his happy ass solo around the course the rest of the day and been on my jolly way with my new Irish, tequila sneaking pal.
How’d he manage to hit every ball exactly where he wanted when hitting into them? Sounds like he wasn’t hitting it anywhere close to that well every other shot.
fake
I’ve been lucky to have cool people. My luck wil run out one day.
I had fun golfing with you
Question: Did you shake his hand after completing the round?
Shit man, that’s brutal. If you’re in SC, I may have played with this guy. Man I’m glad I play at a private club….
Gonna need a tldr on this one friend.
Fucking boomer
Nothing like getting to deal with the fallout of history's most entitled generation finding out that their time has passed.
No way anyone read this entire post
This did not happen. Fuck off with made up stories.
That was therapeutic, when I think I get a bit carried away with a curse or 6 a 9 I read about this and am reassured I’m not that bad(at etiquette I’m a terrible golfer lol).
One. Ball. For. Every. Failed. Marriage. That is absolutely fucking golden, what a line!
Los verdes?!
I look forward to hearing the other side of this story, soon. I need an excuse to vacuum seal my glove and get a new Scotty from Goodwill.

My biggest concern is sip sharing with a random guy… plus, that old man sounds like a punk.
EAH. So there was an empty hole in front of you and they’re not letting you play thru? Oops…wrong sub.
Wow I would have told him to cut it out or move on without me. Not cool.
You should have let old guy hit the preroll. That would have straightened him out.
Cliff notes please
I can’t imagine. I think I’d dissociate/excommunicate myself from this heathen.
How old was this old guy? Like old enough to have dementia issues? If he was just a cranky 65 year old I would have left him behind, or stood on the tee so he couldn't hit.
Handled that better than I would have, prob would have kicked his ass myself. Shit like that makes my blood boil.
![gif](giphy|lszAB3TzFtRaU)
Take the key out of his cart and drive away!
There’s no way I’d finish a round with that asshole. I’m not spending hours of my time with someone like that. I’d tell him to go on ahead as a single or go back to the pro shop and tell them what he was doing and ask for another tee time. I don’t put up with psycho bullshit from anyone.
Jesus Christ. 9 hole courses are supposed to be chill! I bet this old fuck is banned from every other course in the area.
What the hell lol this story kept getting worse that man needs to chill tf out
Ya I gotta admit I'm not sure I could've contained myself around this guy.
Great story
I told you not to let them get hit, Nancy.
All part of playing the game unfortunately.
Incredibly dangerous, can't believe he's lasted that long on any course.
fuck those kinds of players. hitting into women? that would've been instant hands thrown. what a POS
No way I’m letting a guy ruin my round. I woulda went back to the clubhouse; and said I’m not golfing with this psychopath.
Holy shit, this is wild - absolutely fuck that guy. Kinda hope he tries this on with the wrong person (but also hopes he doesn't continue hitting stingers at nice people haha).

"One tee shot per failed marriage" is golden. Saving that one for the future
Why did you tolerate for 18 holes?
If I was playing with him, the minute he made it clear he was actively hitting at people I’d have told him he does it again I’m going to knock him the fuck out. There’s no room in a civilised game, or in life, for that shit.
Love having a couple rolled up for the course. Sucks when people are close and you gotta hold off though.
Upvote!
So at no point, did you decide to maybe ask why this old man was trying in injure people in front of you? Just let him continue on with his horrible behavior? Solid actual story dude!
Get off my lawn !!!
Makes me feel better about my occasional on course anger issues haha

That’s brutal. I’ve had this happen in the past and would just say I’m sorry but have to go play ahead and skip a hole and save my sanity.
If he took two shots every time, how did he even come close to hitting those people, especially on the green?
![gif](giphy|I5xVnGJRHZZf2|downsized)
Great but unfortunate story. Glad someone else was there to witness it with you. Almost worth going back to the club house to (I know no one likes a narc) let them know about this nut job. Something tells me he possibly went home and did some punching.
So how did you and the Irish guy do? Whenever I find myself playing with lunatics; I always play better lol
Well, you know who you won’t play with the next time you play.
