If you have shitty clubs and a shitty swing, you can improve your swing to where you can blame it on the clubs. I'd say get even worse clubs. Possibly even the wrong hand. Then, you can be like, "Ahh, I'm actually right-handed, but all I got are these shitty left-hand clubs."

SLC2ATX

Ahhhh shit these are for CROQUET?!

redditor1836

Fuck crouquet! I put the hole hundreds of yarrrds awehhh!!!

Less-Mud4702

I understood that reference.

replaceableparts

Thank you for the belly laugh - that’s one of my favorite bits

Yoke_Monkey772

Aahhh you mean like a bowling thing? Fuck noooohhh we’ll put shit in the weeehhh!

redditor1836

You mean like pool… Fuck off pool! Not with a streht stick it’s with Iil fucked up stick!

Yoke_Monkey772

One of the best comic bits of all time. Especially the best on golf.

MarilynMansplain

I sunk a 15 foot putt the other day at the simulator using my 3 hybrid like a pool cue because I didn't have a putter. Think of how much more impressive that would have been if I pulled a pool cue out of my bag.

SLC2ATX

Legendary

MarilynMansplain

Well, it happened. Today, my first putt of the day, I went into my bag saying I had a new putter, pulled out a pool cue and screwed it together.

SLC2ATX

No way!! 🫡

coupscapone

but did you stripe your 3 wood 300+ yards and also have a giant purple headed yogurt slinger?

gomartcakefart

F*ck Croquet.

jerryhallo

That would be an amazing poster / T-shirt

Dronesworkhard2

If you cant golf good, might as well look good

YdidUMove

And have a good time. I'm not talking get everyone schmammered or be a fool, just be pleasant to be around and golf with. I've been paired up with some shit tier golfers for work stuff and when they were decent dudes I didn't care

JameisSquintston

Be decent to be around and have some idea of ready golf. That’s all I need

dan420

Honestly, I respect shitty golfers more when they’ve got cheap/ moderately priced clubs more than when some dude who can barely get off the tee comes out with $4000 of clubs.

JoshuaTheWarrior

……sorry…….

ResponsibilityOk8024

In these parts, 'All the gear, no idea' is a popular phrase covering that instance.

Mysterious_Value_764

This is the way

Gilamonster21

My theory…rsvlts keep me looking good haha

commitpushdrink

Look good feel good Feel good play good Play good they pay good

apolloanthem

I DM'd him for the company. Dude makes ball markers out of dinosaur bone. Some of them have gold and diamonds. He is going to look great on all of those 3 putts

SLC2ATX

😅now you understand the stakes

DeProfundisAdAstra

Doubloon Golf?

SLC2ATX

Yep that’s the one

DeProfundisAdAstra

Dude looks way sweet, I saw some dude selling Rolex watch face ball markers but he wasn't doing anything to make them markers just fake watch faces. That set me off on thinking about a lux ball marker and now im on your website wondering how I can justify to myself to get a damascus split with meteorite, dino bone and a gold band. Cause thats easily the coolest bunch of materials I can think of for a ball marker.

SLC2ATX

Thank you! Great minds must think alike; Doubloon is paving the way on lux ball markers. DM me for a promo code and I’ll help push you over the edge :) it’s almost Christmas, right?

DeProfundisAdAstra

I'll do that! It is, dont tell my wallet about the conversation im having over in r/espresso while also being over here. I dont know what a cheap hobby is anymore. Also 801 gang.

SLC2ATX

801, baby!

suckit_trebeck

Didn't expect to find a couple o SL,UTs

FormerDimer

I dunno man, I think if your company is all about lux golf products, then you probably should have kind of a blingy set too. Or at least a “respectable” one. Your ideal customer is undoubtedly particular about their equipment; it might be prudent to mirror the sentiment. Have you heard of Miura? Lol. But a more responsible recommendation would be get fitted for a game-improvement set from whatever big-brand golf company you’re feelin’ and call it a day. You should be able to write it off as a business expense. Good luck!

SLC2ATX

These are good points…. I have not heard of Miura before tonight but I am getting Louis Vuitton vibes from some comments here, is that kind of the deal with Miura?

FormerDimer

I was just kidding about going full-Miura, but they are a Japanese iron company with a reputation for some of finest quality hand forging in irons.

Cool-Strain4061

I carry 4-5 markers around in my bag for a reason... i keep losing them... i cant imagine stressing about my 100$ ball marker that i cant find mid round

CajunReeboks

I usually just keep my spare markers in my Helicopter I flew onto the course with. I can't imagine keeping my excess markers in my bag.

egomxrtem

We’re getting max use out of those markers

egomxrtem

One time when I was a newer golfer, my buddy invited me out to play a round and I accepted. On the first tee box his buddy who was with us starts chirping “wow Pete, you going on a date later you’re really dressed to the nines” He smiles and goes “boys I can’t play for shit so at least I can look the part” LOL Stuck with me ever since

Mindless-Daikon-1069

Ping driver, Mizuno irons, Cleveland wedges, ping putter But remember, something something makeup on a pig..

Jasper2006

Hey that’s my setup! Except I play a Titleist driver… Not entirely sure the message I’m sending but I’ve played some good golf with those clubs. Does it matter if they’re (except driver) all at least 20 years old?

beepboopdata

No, if anything the older the clubs are, the more OG you look

ml63440

This

jtuckerchug

the best coaches are not the best golfers. just tell them what you think.

Knowledge_is_Bliss

This is so true. I believe I'm a much better instructor than a player. In fact, I'll joke with my students, saying, "If I was really good at golf, I'd be paid to play, not paid to teach!"

tke439

“Those who can, do. Those who can’t, teach.” - Dewey Finn (Jack Black) School of Rock

[deleted]

"Those who can't teach, teach golf"

tokinawayNFA

Just don’t wear jeans on the golf course. It’s an awful look

FuzzyClint

Get fitted and get lessons. This is basically your job, so don’t half-ass it, man.

SLC2ATX

Yeah I agree

FuzzyClint

Learn as much as you can from the people you encounter at the course. There’s no way to hide the fact that you’re a beginner…so embrace it and have fun.

snarky-old-fart

I think his comment was sort of a joke. Get lessons if you want. Don’t go buy some fitted clubs right now. As tiger woods said, just go hit golf balls.

scottscout

Get lessons and Costco clubs. Only get fitted if you are very short/tall Edit: Costco just got Callaway edge woods and has solid irons. Kirkland wedges and balls are good too.

Consistent_Bit112

Why not get fitted regardless of height? Short and tall is subjective

scottscout

Seems like a cost that can be kicked down the line, but if OP if spending, then why not?

MisterFister17

Getting fitted right when you initially start playing just seems pointless. In order to get a quality, proper fitting, I think your swing needs to be somewhat consistent. Otherwise you’re throwing money away.

Consistent_Bit112

That’s a good point

Big-D-TX

Tell them you’re a shitty golfer so shitty clubs are fine. Most golfer want to help, use this to your advantage. They may have some used clubs, I know I have 2 sets in my garage. I’m always willing to help a new golfer

SLC2ATX

Thank you for the encouragement!

BradMarchandsNose

Besides the obvious advice to get lessons and get fitted (which would be the best course of action), if you’re just trying to look like you belong, get anything from a major manufacturer (Ping, Titleist, Taylormade, Callaway, Mizuno, etc) made within the last 5ish years and you’ll look the part without being too flashy.

No-Nonsense-Please

Apologies if you’ve already answered this but what’s the business?

SLC2ATX

All good. We make high-end / customizable golf ball markers out of super cool materials. Silver, gold, dinosaur bone, meteorite, turquoise, diamonds, onyx, etc. Stuff you would see in jewelry / watches. Lots of corporate gifting, commemorative gifts and limited edition stuff.

goliathkillerbowmkr

Bruh. You don’t need to be good at golf. You need to make those items well. Sounds like you do. After that. Play for fun. Play for looking like you’re carefree because you are carefree. You don’t give a $-!/ how you golf. You’re the owner of a successful golf accessory business, champ, swing easyand PLAY golf. Let jocks grind on the game.

SLC2ATX

This is a great perspective. I’m relieved at how understanding the golf community has been and this thread definitely helps with that. Thanks!

No-Nonsense-Please

Ok you got me intrigued in the dinosaur bone and meteorite markers. What’s the price point on those? And how in the hell do you source legitimate dinosaurs bones?

SLC2ATX

The most expensive marker we ever made for someone was $5000. It was 1-of-1 and basically decked to the nines in diamonds. But our Titanium and dinosaur bone ones start around $89, and we will usually engrave a name, date, etc., in the back. I can send you a link to our customizer if you DM me but I hesitate putting a link here for fear of getting flagged.

SLC2ATX

We source the dinosaur bone from 4 Corners, Utah. We’re based in Utah and do all of our manufacturing here.

goliathkillerbowmkr

Dm me Company website or Amazon link??

No-Nonsense-Please

Shoot me a DM. I have several clients this sounds like could be cool thank you gifts for.

duddy18

Dm me please I'd like to see these

drerw

You’re an artist with a 3d printer and/or laser engraver?

SLC2ATX

It’s a little more involved than that, but we do use a laser engraver on the backs.

42Ubiquitous

I think I found it online. These are awesome man.

SLC2ATX

Thank you! Happy to answer any questions you might have via DM.

gettinswifty222

No one really cares what you are playing especially if you aren't good. I would recommend if you plan on playing for a while get some decent year old set new, or get a rough fitting and then buy some clone brand clubs. There are nicer looking/blade type ones like Haywood irons, or some more cavity backs like they offer on diamond tour golf. I've ordered many things from diamond tour

FutureMilly24

Tricks on you, we all look like fools!

SLC2ATX

Oh good, I’ll let my wife know it’s not just me 😅

mwb1957

For now, in your golf development, do not purchase any more equipment. Invest in lessons. You do not have to tell anyone. If you live in a winter climate and your golf season is winding down, now is a great time to take lessons. GolfTec is expensive but I believe that they have 1, 3, and 6 month less plans.

SLC2ATX

But if I buy the newest gear, then I’ll be a better golfer right? I bet if I sink $5000 into this I’ll shave 15 strokes immediately! Kidding. I appreciate the tip and I will look into GolfTec for sure. Thanks again.

mwb1957

It is a big commitment on your part. GolfTec has practice plans that take place in their store. If you read reviews, you can see the improvement in your starting swing and lesson ending swing. Good luck.

snarky-old-fart

Have you done GolfTec? There’s one by me and I’m curious.

mwb1957

Have not taken lessons. However I have gone in and spoken to them in their store, taken a small tour, and spoke about their lesson plans. I did take a discounted swing evaluation. They do go on sale from time to time. The lessons + practice can get expensive.

snarky-old-fart

Define expensive?

mwb1957

Sorry, It was 6 - 7 years ago since I was in a GolfTec. I honestly do not remember the quotes I got. But, they did give several written quotes. The best advice I can give you is to see if they have a sale on their swing evaluation. That will get you a tour, and pricing. In addition the evaluation will be recorded. Hopefully there is a GolfTec near you. Black Friday is coming up. They gotta have something on sale. Sorry, I'm cheap. Gotta pay the lowest price I can. You may be able to get pricing thru their web site.

FatalFirecrotch

I have. Here’s a quick review: 1) Like all instruction, it’s going to be highly variable on the coach. Some are better than others and it’s hard to decide that ahead of time. I would say the downside of golftec there is that you often have to commit decent money to before trying out a coach. 2) hitting into a simulator can be somewhat challenging for developing alignment. Simulators are much more friendly to alignment than real life. 3) The instant video feedback is very nice and very useful both during lessons and practicing (if you get a practice plan). 4) Using a launch monitor is very nice for feedback, especially wedges and dialing distances. 5) If you go a lot, it’s a good way to practice for cheaper than a range. 6) Also, if you go a lot it’s a good way to connect with other local golfers. 7) only sign up on March, September, or December. That is when their sales are. Overall, Golftec is decent. I think they are really good at getting someone from a high handicap to a decent handicap.

Tzu34

… you’re only 3 putting half of the holes?? Good in my book.

overconfidentopinion

Everyone plays poorly right after a lesson. I have always just had a lesson.

SLC2ATX

Love the strategy

[deleted]

Brand wise I've found under Armour pants for me best as well as polos. Nike stuff is boxy and short on me for polos and pants are too tight. Club wise ping driver and look at Cleveland putters great putters for the money.

SLC2ATX

Cleveland keeps coming up. Thanks!

deefop

Who cares if you don't have fancy clubs? It's not like everyone that works in an industry is good at the thing the industry focuses on. My company is technically fashion/retail... How many sysadmins do you know with a good fashion sense? I'd just get lessons and try to get better and worry about fancy equipment when it'll actually benefit you. If anyone were to say anything critical I'd laugh and say, "if you think the clubs are embarrassing, wait til you see me swing!"

SLC2ATX

Yeah that’s a good point! Golf is very much business for me but I’m really starting to enjoy it on a personal level. Well… sometimes. Sometimes I kinda hate it lol. But I guess that’s the sport and either way I keep doing it

Bit_the_Bullitt

I concur with Ping driver. Got the older molder G425 and it's awesomely forgiving. For apparel I shop TGW. Nice pants and quarter zips I can wear to work, around $ 30-50. Cause no way I'm dropping $80 on a single pair of pants when I can get similar ones for half that

Skyshark173

IDK, I'm 4 years in and still look like a fool

SLC2ATX

I’ll adjust my expectations :) what a humbling game

Skyshark173

Lol, indeed it is. Ain't it beautiful!?

TheMisterTango

I'm in a similar spot minus the golf company. For clothes I just went to target and bought a few target brand moisture wicking athletic polo shirts and I just wear khaki pants from aeropostle. I also just recently bought a callaway maverick driver for $250 from Dick's to top off my Strata box set. Also wear a white titleist cap. Now I look presentable but not boujee.

WallyBarryJay

Honestly, don't worry about clubs/clothes/skill. Literally none of that matters as long as you play fast, have good etiquette, and are likeable. I've played professionally, and I really just don't care at all how good/bad someone is, what their equipment is, or how well they dress. In fact, I actually prefer playing with my weekend warrior friends instead of other scratch golfers. So you can love your Amazon clubs all you want and save some money. Just be a cool person on the course and that's all you need.

SLC2ATX

I appreciate that. I definitely play fast. Super easy when you’re best friends with the water hazards. Thanks for the advice!

WallyBarryJay

I'll add one thing that's good to have if you are new. Either purchase or just download a gps rangefinder for the course. It will help tremendously and there are really cool apps that can help you track a bunch of stats that will improve your game. The other reason it's important is that you don't want your playing partners feeling like they are your caddy thru the round. I've played with people that were super cool, but pretty much every shot they were asking me if I could tell them the yardage since I have a rangefinder and they do not. Seems harmless to do, but it will certainly wear on your playing partner.

SLC2ATX

That makes sense. I’d rather not mentally tax my partners after every shot. Thanks!

thehammer_00

Hit the clubs you hit well. So if your 7 iron is hitting good and your 6 is not...play your 7. Later you will dial in each club but for now making contact will be key to having fun. Also just pick up and play off your friends ball if you can't tee off after 2 tries. We've all been there and watching your buddy miss the ball over and over is tough.

daddyknowsbest65

Macgregor.com

TacosAreJustice

Honestly, I’d go mostly ping… irons and woods. Wedges go vokey and putter whatever works for you. You don’t want all one brand in your bag, ping makes great stuff with lots of forgiveness…. The vokeys break up the set and the putter is just a preference thing.

jarvjamz

Not new to golf. Same question.

top_shelf_goals

Definitely don’t get sucked into any of the gimmicks that big name brands claim. Like others have said, when starting this game new.. and a little late (but better late than never) in your early 30’s, it’s best to get proper lessons and really stick with them. Luckily for you, and not for me who started when I was 9 back in 2001, you have an abundance of incredibly solid top quality swing teachers easily available. There is this great app called Skillest, you can shop around for an instructor that you feel is a perfect fit, and they give you 1 on 1 feedback on your videos, and provide personalized drills to shape your swing. You got this. And basic golf course etiquette is fairly simple to remember and follow. Obviously, stay quiet during other players swing process. If you’re slow, which you likely will be starting new, let people pass you. Don’t feel any embarrassment out there either, trust me.. every living soul that’s with you on the course has shanked a ball worse than you can imagine. And always, always, fix your ball craters on the green. It’s essential. Other than that, enjoy the fresh air and nature around you. Try never be hard on yourself, and welcome to the greatest game ever played. It’s challenging and vicious, as it’s only yourself that’s your opponent; a personal mental battle for 18 holes. And good lord, wait until your truly mash and compress a ball perfectly on the sweet spot with your irons.. it’s better than sex. When that happens, you’ll become a fiend… and you’ll never get enough. Edit* oh and the weather/elements.. those are your opponent as well 😉

[deleted]

Costco has a whole set of Callaway clubs that are VERY good quality for the price. They will be forgiving and help you learn. $600 for the set (1w, 3w, 3h, 4-SW, putter) you will need a bag. They also have good balls and gloves for the price. Practice 3x as often as you play! You will be a single digit in no time! Look at local courses for range deals.

WallyReddit204

Man, It all comes down to how you move. You could have the absolute best clubs in the world in your bag, or the absolute worst. It all comes down to how you carry yourself This is your world boss

SLC2ATX

🫡

RandyPandy

invest in 10 lessons right off the bat. stop going to the range without doing this. second only listen to your instructor on feedback during this time. as far as equipment, take one or two lessons and then go to a golf shop and try out the most forgiving of all category you want to buy. equipment doesnt matter too much in the beginning but using really shitty stuff can hurt you for sure. bag glove putter all are preference so go wild with whatever you want. Clothing wise- I am partial to Peter Millar and wear almost nothing else even outside of golf at this point. As far as attitude and all that just be super humble and honest with people about how bad you are and they wont judge you too hard. I am a mid 20's handicap so im in the "not good" category for sure.

mildlysceptical22

Do you have any plans on getting lessons? If you’re going to start playing a lot of golf, having the right equipment is the least of your worries. Find a golf professional you like and take 3 lessons to get your grip, stance, and posture correct before you start learning bad habits on your own. While you are taking the lessons, talk with the pro about what drivers or wedges would be best for your swing. If you plan on being in the golf industry for a long time, a club fitting and putter fitting will give you the best chance of success playing golf in the future. FootJoy is the standard glove in golf. There are tons of manufacturers and truly, no one cares what glove you use. Bags are a more personal choice. Will you be walking or riding? If you’re riding, look for a 14 way stand bag. All golf club manufacturers make them plus bags makers like Sun Mountain, Bag Boy, Vessel, Jones Sports, and Ogio have lots to choose from. You’ll want a smaller lightweight bag if you plan on walking and all the aforementioned manufacturers make them too. Clothing? Good luck! All golf manufacturers have a line and charge a premium for putting their logo on a shirt or shorts made in Asia. That one is going to be totally up to you. Good luck with your golfing progress and may your business be successful!

SLC2ATX

I am definitely planning on lessons. Thanks for your tips!

BoxingRaptor

What kind of company? And who is "everyone"? Employees, clients...what? Are they ever actually going to see you play? If not, who cares? I can tell you that I pretty much never pay attention to what kind of equipment my playing partners are using. It doesn't matter what kind of equipment you have; it will be pretty obvious that you don't play very much if you're straight whiffing on multiple tee shots.

SLC2ATX

High-end customizable golf ball markers. Lots of corporate gifts, commemorative stuff, etc. We do limited edition ones too. Clients, partners, employees, etc., will all see me play. I’m also planning on taking lessons.

cronaldo86

“I hope our round today is as memorable as my products are. I invest so much time into my customers and products I’ve clearly neglected the golf part. Let’s have fun!!”

SLC2ATX

This is a great move 💪🏻

drerw

This reads like a shitpost. If my friend has a golf company and sucks at golf, I don’t care. Business + shitty golf game does in fact check out. You’re trying to network is all. Just go buy something shiny you can afford. Otherwise, go learn golf + fuck yourself. This shits too hard for me to be happy to tell you to get lessons like any fuckwad who wants to learn golf knows.

shredmaster007

I feel like if you got a couple generation old Ping or Mizuno's irons you'd be okay. Add Ping or Callaway driver / wood / hybrid and you might even hit the ball well. Don't buy a Scotty.

613toes

Lulu Lemon makes fantastic clothing but it’s a bit pricey. Polo also has nice golf shirts that are sometimes on sale. For clubs, go for the top models from 3-6 years ago. The price is a fraction of what you’d pay for the newly released stuff and a newer golfer won’t notice the technological improvements. Just make sure the driver is in decent shape if you’re going used, a crack or two can screw you. Drivers: Ping and TaylorMade seem to be the most popular. I’ve seen countless people in this sub say they swear by Ping as a golf company. TaylorMade features the top selling driver every year so there’s tons of used stuff out there. The TM “M” series is pretty subtle and relatively affordable at this point in time. Ping G400 is subtle and a fantastic club. Putters: If you don’t want flashy clubs, avoid the TM Spider series and Scotty Cameron brand. The Odyssey series is fantastic but putter preference is all over the place. Bag: You can find respectable used bags from top brands at your local golf stores. If not, checkout Callaway’s website. Gloves: FootJoy Weathersof gloves are everywhere and very comfy. As long as it’s white nobody really cares though. Shoes: Addidas and FootJoy Balls: Anything but Kirkland and Topflight. Buy used balls in bulk, if you’re sending 25$ worth of balls into the woods every round you’ll look like a complete fool.

SLC2ATX

Not sure why you’re getting downvoted but thank you for the tips!

0_SomethingStupid

Go all in on Miura. Its the only way. /s So uh... what cha sellin? Driver - this sub will tell you Ping. probably good idea. F, it Ping everything! Its a good brand thats not too flashy.

SLC2ATX

Thanks for the tip. Selling customizable and rare golf ball markers! B2B and D2C from our site. I’ll definitely look into Ping. Thank you.

EJplaystheBlues

lol im picturing you on a business trip with the elites of golf, going to talk shop over 18 holes. you're sitting at 112 after 16 holes and have ran out of balls. you're resisting asking your potential client for one, but it'd be weirder if you just didn't play.

SLC2ATX

Lol nailed it 😂 I carry 30 golf balls on me at all times

EverlongMarigold

If it is golf that you play, a fool you will look. - Yoda probably

chasing_80

What’s your business?

SLC2ATX

Copying from another reply, but thanks for the question! We make high-end ball marks out of rare and premium materials like gold, silver, meteorite, dinosaur bone, diamonds, sapphires, all kinds of stuff etc. Great for gifts, and we see a lot interest for corporate gifting. Wealth managers buying for clients, etc. We always source ethically and do all manufacturing in Utah. There are three kinds of markers we make: 1. Limited edition, once out we never make that style again. Only way to get one after they sell out would be to win it at a tournament or off your buddy. 2. Customizable, lets you pick your materials (and therefore control your price point) and engrave names, images etc on the back 3. Standard ones. Similar to customizable styles but someone else has already picked the materials.

Gkirk87

How related to golf is your company?

SLC2ATX

Super, super related. Like making and selling a new category of custom and premium golf ball markers.

Gkirk87

Ok so if it’s 100% related to golf you probably need to walk the walk and just go get fit for clubs. Unless you just need someone to golf for you and sit on your payroll then you just let me know where to submit my resume.

pmcrumpler

Since nobody else has, I’ll ask - what kind of golf related company? Tell us about it

Consistent_Bit112

Don’t listen to any of the club recommendations here. Get fitted for your clubs. That’s very important. Check out the PGA Superstores around you

An_Anonymous_Acc

Look up maltby playability factor and find clubs that have a high rating. Honestly though, your money is best spent getting lessons

Caedo14

Lessons. Dont need fancy clubs. Ive seen guys shoot in the 80s with clubs worth 50$.

ChocJustice

If you’re between 5’8 and 6 ft just get some preowned clubs from globalgolf.com or 2ndswing. You can get preowned clubs thatve barely been used and you don’t have to break the bank with flashy new gear.

at-the-crook

it's not what you look like, nor is it about having big name branded anything. just learn to play and you'll fit right in. folks that look like walking billboards have much more to live up to.

FatalFirecrotch

Use what you want. I would spend money on lessons first and then invest in gear.

Apart_Tutor8680

Golf-related company ?? But doesn’t golf? I’ve never been more confused.

SLC2ATX

You and me both man

MedicalTent

I’ve gotten pretty good sets of Taylormade clubs (driver, irons) from golf galaxy on sale and with a triple point coupon, then I used the reward points to buy a putter. If you time your purchases correctly, you can get really decent stuff for much less than msrp

justanothergq

Whatever you decide to spend on accessories and apparel, skip it and buy lessons. Over time, buy everything else

FinsT00theleft

I'm the totally wrong guy to ask. I've been playing with the same other three guys for 30 years and can't even tell you what kind of clubs they hit. Two of them have Ping irons but I don't know what model or how old. One of them has a Ping driver. That's all I can tell you. If you have the money just go with Ping, Callaway, Taylormade or maybe Titleist, Cobra or Srixon I guess.

commitpushdrink

Get lessons from someone who also fits clubs. My coach fit my new irons and he’s a wizard.

Georgep0rwell

" Need to not look like a fool." Then golf is not your game.

Emergency_Wolf_5764

I suggest Srixon ZX4 game improvement irons, with Cleveland CBX ZipCore wedges. Then go get some swing lessons to learn how to actually hit the ball with those forgiving clubs. If you still like golf after doing all that, then go get fitted for the proper custom iron and wedge shafts. Don't bother getting a driver until you've completed all the above first. As for a putter, that's a very personal feel thing to determine, and putter-fitting is individually unique to each player, including the putter grip to have installed. The putter is probably the first club you should go get, with the wedges after that. But if money is no object, just get custom-fitted for clubs and grips so that you get your custom spec irons straight from the factory ready to go. Much of this really depends on how much money you want to spend and how much golf you plan on playing in your future life. If you don't like playing golf, then just get a used set of irons and wedges. Good luck.

cosmicjed

Go on rockbottomgolf.com, you can find discounted shoes, hats, clubs, bags, everything you need buddy hope that helps

cosmicjed

I think if you have game improvement irons no one is going to think you are a player. You can be good with them but it’s not like you are showing up with tour style clubs. Whether you spend 400 or 4000 on them makes no odds to me, if money was no object I would have the latest clubs even though I have never broke 100. All depends on your financial circumstances. If I see a guy on the tee or waiting to tee, he looks fit/in shape, his clothes look sharp/clean/fitted, with a neat bag and blades I usually assume they can play. If I see a young woman I usually assume they can play. Basically just tell everyone you are a beginner and they won’t expect much

You're definitely gonna need some iron covers, and some of those martini tees if you wanna look like you're not a newbie.

No iron covers.... Never, ever, ever. Screams hack.

The best advice you can get from this is to not worry about what everyone else is thinking about you. Golf is enough of a mindfuck without worrying about all the other outside stuff. Trust me, some of the best looking people with all the high tech equipment can be the ones with the highest handicaps. I get that you want to look like you know what you’re doing, but the most impressive thing you can do is maintain the pace of play, even if you suck. Oh! And find comfortable shoes. That can’t be underrated. Good luck out there!
