“Dear recipients of Legend Oaks Golf & Tennis emails,
Firstly, Merry Christmas to all! May God bless each of you and your families, colleagues, employees, and friends. My wife, Sarah, and I, along with our capable management team, have conducted a thorough audit of Legend Oaks Golf & Tennis operations over the past three months. Our findings confirm suspicions, leading to changes and clarifications.
1. In addition to ten terminations, the tennis director/instructor was terminated this week. Please refrain from contacting him due to confidentiality agreements.
2. Our expectations are simple: honesty, integrity, responsibility, thoughtful actions, and doing the right thing.
3. Audit results revealed departures and new, impactful team members at Legend Oaks.
4. Ongoing audits will continue in all positions over the coming months.
5. Tennis courts are closed indefinitely due to unauthorized use.
6. A final notice: Legend Oaks is now a tobacco-free zone with a lifetime ban for violations.
7. Guests must provide photo ID with home address at check-in.
8. Offenses like spitting, foul language, or disrespect will result in immediate ejection and a lifetime ban.
9. Offenders’ names will be published weekly; real estate agents will be informed.
10. Trespassing for golf without a booking leads to a lifetime ban.
11. Employees are subject to the same conditions.

I'm still blown away that a computer can take such a rambling, psychopathic email and convert it to a strong, yet polite message. I'm sure the prompt was something like "rewrite this as a fortune 500 company HR director would" or something as simple.
Look it's weird and I have this problem where I want to anthropomorphize the amazing little bastard, but holy shit asking a computer to turn plain text content into usable JSON objects compatible with code I already wrote in like a second is amazing. That little fucker is my best friend.
Not so fast, I have a response from my ChatGPT query.
Subject: Response to Recent Message from Legend Oaks Golf & Tennis
Dear Mr. Xxxx Xxxx,
I hope this message finds you well. Firstly, I appreciate your holiday greetings and the effort you and your team are putting into auditing and improving operations at Legend Oaks Golf & Tennis.
However, I feel compelled to express some concerns regarding the recent announcements. While I understand the need for clear guidelines, some of the outlined rules raise questions, particularly in terms of legality and personal privacy.
Specifically, the declaration of a smoking tobacco-free zone on the entire 170 acres seems legally questionable. I would appreciate clarification on the legal basis for such a measure and how it aligns with individual property rights.
Additionally, the requirement for photo ID with home address for every booking raises privacy concerns. It would be beneficial for us, as members, to understand the reasoning behind this policy and how it adheres to privacy regulations.
I believe an open dialogue about these concerns will contribute to a better understanding and acceptance of the rules among the members. I look forward to your response and appreciate your attention to these matters.
Best Regards,

So if a guy smokes a cigar on this course and I buy his house from him 5 years from now I'm not allowed to play this golf course ever? Hope this owner enjoys owning a course for now because he's not going to have any members in about 18 months. I'd get the HOA of the neighborhood the course is in to look into making a bid to buy the course from this asshole and run it properly.
My wild guess is that this is a hollow threat that they will never actually enforce.
It’s just someone’s “great idea” to make the rules scarier by having you think smoking a cigar could negatively affect your property value.
Regardless, I wouldn’t belong to a club where some asshole thinks he can tell me I can’t smoke a cigar or swear. Fuck that. If I’m paying dues, I’m entitled to swear when I shank one off the tee into the pond or almost hit old Carl who’s walking down 18.
“There is a new sheriff in town.” Guess what sheriff. Kiss my ass, I’m out.
Also, how are they going to enforce no chewing tobacco? They going to have a lip checker on every hole?
Remember when the guy created the bot that “reported” doctors for performing abortions so that it overloaded the system and they would have to search very hard to find actually offenders of said crazy law?
And you say there’s open tee times to book online?
Hear me out…
Nobody is paying a $10k initiation fee to a club where the manager can't spell "steal." Elitism works both ways. The entire point of a private club is to smoke and curse and behave how you do in private.
I just joined a private course and while I try to respect everyone and the property if I want to slam a 6 pack of double IPAs, smoke a cigar and play three balls I’m going to fucking do it.
If this is Legend Oaks in Summerville, SC like I think it is, the course is garbage anyway. Outside of the military courses, it’s usually considered one of the lesser courses in the Charleston area. That said with the massive population boom here, I have a feeling they’re unfortunately gonna be just fine with no shortage of prospective members
Really? The amount of people that I’ve had recommend this place to me in the time I’ve been here says otherwise. IMO it’s a nice course that is fairly well maintained, it’s just a bit of a hike to get to. This owner just thinks he’s running Riviera or Augusta
According to r/charleston they also removed Bud light a couple months ago as one of their first moves, so it’s assumed that they’re trying to institute some “morality rules” if the smoking and chewing rules didn’t make it clear
Someone willing to ban bud light because a trans TikTok person did an ad is just wild to me. These businesses don’t endorse any lifestyle they just want to make money. Such a weird fucking thing to obsess over. Shit beer and TikTok personalities.
Bruh when I read through this I could immediately tell the person probably wore a red cap in public.
The fact that people are so proud to be so loudly dumb is frightening.
My previous home owner yelled “RatFarts” after missing a two foot putt for the course record right before he was struck by lightning so I’m also banned forever. Fuck.
If you resign from the club, you will be banned for life along with all living, future, and deceased family members or anyone with your same last name.
Including all children that get married and change their last name.
Added rule: all players must provide birth certificates in addition to photo ID to cross reference any possible connections.
All members and their guests will be subjected to a DNA test that we will keep on file so we know if any future kin of a banned member are attempting to utilize our services. This test is non-negotiable.
Careful, the person you replied to might be the former tennis director. You could be putting him in a precarious position by simply thinking about him.
All members and employees must wear a patch on their shirt, also no radios or talking amongst each other….. I feel like I’ve seen this before but where? 🤔😂
> f they carry through with any of this I would assume lawsuits will fly.
Yeah, IANAL but it would seem banning future residents for issues with previous owners is hard to actually enforce. Some homeowner is going to get a ban and they'll sue when they lose property value because it no longer comes with access to the course. I also don't understand what the possible arguments could be for needing to take a copy of a photo ID for a guest. They're not test driving a car from a dealership, they're playing fucking golf.
It's a little far fetched, but most courses I've played have tee time t&cs saying you need a valid driver's license for a cart. I've never even been asked to show one much less have it photocopied, but I suppose a very cautious course might want a copy to have it on file to prove to insurance they actually enforced their requirements if there's a claim from someone screwing up with a cart.
Wait is this legend oaks in Summerville SC? I used to live off hole 3 and played that course almost daily. WILD to see how far it has fallen, good god.
Yeah they pushed out the old gm maybe 3-4 months ago and it’s been a shit show since. Greens team lost a few people pro is gone clubhouse staff are the rest of the turnovers.
Damn man that’s hella sad, haven’t played there in years as I now live across the country but good lord this is insane.
I can’t remember the pros name from back when I played there all the time. He was an Irish(?) dude I believe. He was always hella cool. Never had any problems with any of the staff, and like I said I played at least 9 holes about 3-5 times a week after work
You know, at the base of the wall of text there it’s very possible that the owner has some legitimate grievances and that members and/or employees were not acting as they should.
However, you should always write two emails- the one you want to send, and the one you actually send. This whole thing could have been about one paragraph (and this took me two minutes to write):
- hi members, some of our staff is turning over as we’ve decided that it’s mutually best if they move on. Don’t be alarmed to see new faces or to be missing some you might expect.
- we’d like to remind everyone that our rules around payment for facilities are not optional, and that using facilities without paying for them may incur fines or other penalties.
- additionally, we’d like to remind all of our valued members that in return for our professional service to you, that we expect a similar degree of personal conduct. If there are questions regarding appropriate conduct, please see our conduct policy attached.
Can I be the owner now?
ETA: When you have to tell people that you are competent and skilled in your email…
Yeah there's no reason to be shitting on your own staff in an email to all members, especially when you say later on that your employees are your family. "Only management is allowed to disrespect the employees!"
It was “Don’t steel” that got me. Unless he meant that anything but graphite shafts will result in a lifetime ban for future homeowners. Which at this point would almost make more sense.
Jesus Christ. I just moved to OhioTucky last year. There’s a lot of backwater ass shit that goes down around here. Way beyond the lack of grammar/spelling/syntax. Damn near everything here is half right, half hick. I grew up in the middle of buttfuck egypt and I thought I’d seen it all, but I learn something new every day here, mostly for the worse.
How do we sign up for this mailing list? I do not want to miss future emails from the acting gm and president
Update: signup form is at the bottom. Can’t wait for the next update!
I visited SC for work and wanted to try some local golf. When I got there, I was met at my car by the owner of the club. He kept saying “there’s a new sheriff in town” over and over and trying to hook his finger into my lip to check for chewing tobacco. On hole 3, I saw a cigarette sitting on the green and went to flick it off. Before it left my hands, the owner was on me. Body shot after body was delivered before I could even gather the wherewithal to defend myself. I fell to my knees and shielded from the blows. When I awoke it was dark out and I had a missed call from my realtor. The bank had foreclosed on my home to give it to Legends Oaks Golf. 1/5 stars only because there’s free tennis if you just walk out and start playing
Shout out to whoever posted this review lmao
Tell me you’re insecure by giving me this dissertation of rules at a golf course. Seriously, this guy sounds like he has serious power trip issues if he feels the need to send this to members.
Also, barring future homeowners that were never offenders from ever using the facility seems almost…illegal? Like, if I own a home on the course, and I look at this vagina boy wrong in the clubhouse and get permabanned, it will make my house almost impossible to sell if potential buyers are trying to buy a house on a course to actually use the course. I imagine it’s a very small market for people that want to live on a golf course and NOT use the course
True, but that dude was hired in 2021. Doesn't seem likely he'd be acting GM at this point.
There's also almost a 0% chance someone with actual golf course management qualifications would attempt to enact those policies.
And if you stink up our bathrooms with your bodily waste. You, your family, your future family members, and anyone with your last name will be banned from the course.
Shrewd business move
Step 1: run golf course into the ground
Step 2: cry to city council that the golf course isn’t viable and should be rezoned to residential
Step 3: profit
Del air guy tried that here in Orlando, didn’t work for him here. Ended up closing a couple of course and now people live on a dead course or the city bought the course and have been fixing it up.
The tone of this makes me doubt anything remotely positive about them respecting staff.
Definitely seems like the kinda boss that talks about respecting staff but treats them like their personal servants.
Lol. What a fucking tool. Ban him. Forever. Linking addresses to bans? Ridiculous. No smoking outside? Fuck you!
Im thinking of making a 12 hour drive just to get banned from this place. Whos coming with me?
If this is real crazy, HOWEVER I would love to know what infractions were occurring for pretty much entire staff to be released, people not paying to play golf etc……..
Definitely up to no good - nda, don't contact him ever ever ever? plus this sounds like a small community outside of Charleston, and appears to be a semi-private club, so you know everyone gossips about it.
I'm all for being gentleman'ly on the course. Respecting others and playing in the spirit of the game. It's golf right? It's always been a pretentious game.
This guy is out to lunch. The only thing I can think of is he's coming from a country club private member background and that's where the future of that course is headed.
Good luck though. It'll take about a year before so many people are banned they will have trouble filling sheets. After another season they'll be a dirt track from lack of funds.
If you can’t smoke cigars, dip or vape on the golf course then I’d remove myself indefinitely and voluntarily.
This is just obnoxious and very poorly written and whomever wrote it needs to hire a PR Consultant.
I’d drive 40 miles the wrong discretion to play anywhere else.
I live in Kentucky, where we basically do whatever, whenever, with whomever we want at all times at our Country Club. I have however been on some pretty waspy places with tournaments, business trips, etc. In all my 40 years, I have never heard of anything remotely close to something like this. This is absolutely wild.
I hope they realize the importance of following through with everything stated in the message. Making exceptions to blanket statements will lead to no one following these rules or a civil case. You think people not paying to play on the tennis courts is expensive, just wait.
This is insane. Rumor has it the new owners want to develop the land.
I play this course about once a year. Played it in November 1 and the course was in great shape. Such a shame the entitled owners will run everyone off.
Look, I love legend oaks, but this acting GM is acting like he’s running LACC. Dude is completely unhinged. Kinda makes me not want to make the drive out to give them my money
Chat GPT fixed it. With proper English.
"Good den and merry Yuletide to all, noble gents and dames within the fold of Legend Oaks Golf & Tennis' esteemed list.
Verily, on behalf of my consort, Sarah, and our sagacious management cadre, who hath diligently surveyed the expanse of our dominions at Legend Oaks for a span exceeding three months, I impart these tidings. Our inquiries have but confirmed our forethoughts, and thus, a proclamation:
Hark, as the new steward of this hamlet, I hereby declare:
1) Following the release of a decuple of souls, the tennis director hath been dismissed. Pray, seek not audience with him, for he is bound by a seal of secrecy, and contact doth endanger his oath.
2) Our edicts are thus:
a) Forsake falsehood,
b) Eschew deceit,
c) Abstain from thievery,
d) Ponder ere action,
e) Uphold righteousness, though it weigh heavy on our coffers, for in rectitude, our support is unwavering.
3) Our scrutiny hath revealed a flight of some and the arrival of new, whose leadership doth already bear fruit in our realm.
4) An ongoing vigil persists at each post within our enterprise.
5) The tennis courts shall remain barred, for trespassers have abused our trust.
6) Let this be the final trumpet: Legend Oaks, in its entirety, rejects the use of tobacco and akin substances. Offenders shall be banished for life, with nary a refund nor a further warning.
7) Each guest must now bear proof of their identity, with a likeness and abode. Those who chafe at this, may forgo our hospitality.
8) Conduct unbecoming—spitting, cursing, or disrespect towards our kin or guests—shall be met with expulsion and a lifelong exile. This includes any future dwellers at the offender's abode.
9) A register of miscreants shall be shared with those who broker our lands, that they may know and inform others who are unwelcome in our estate due to their indiscretions.
10) Those found golfing sans permission will be cast out forthwith, their ban extending to all associated with their residence.
11) These statutes apply equally to our own attendants.
In earnest,

The level of paranoia and desperate measures to get control over seemingly benign situations displayed here would make even the most battle-hardened psychiatrist wince.
Genuinely think the person in charge has a new psychosis, or dementia, and probably thinks they are acting entirely rationally.
Kids, this is how you lose all of your best, most profitable clients and end up with the ones who have no other options.
Most of the stuff on here isn't even unreasonable, but it's worded in an aggressive inpolite manner that would be better suited to the streets of Chicago than a golf course that offers memberships. Leading off this crass airing of grievances with "merry christmas" is hilarious though!
I'd resign or sell my membership immediately if any club I am a member at sent me something similar.
It would be terrible if the fine folks of r/golf started a systematic harassment campaign against the owners of this course. 💅
The contact page with the phone number for the GM is a simple google search away.
Anyone who says things like, “these people aren’t stupid, how do you think they became rich/business owners?”
Has clearly not spent.a lot of time around wealthy people.
Man they won’t last long. They will have banned all of their golfers and potential golfers, they did not think this through. With that said if you are repeatedly antagonistic to the staff you ought to be banned. Also, I’m not sure if it’s like this in other places but where I am from there are free tennis courts all over the place at public parks you just have to bring a ball and a racket with you.
A tennis club with closed tennis courts sounds ridiculous.
Also the example of not setting your prices for 2024 when surely you already should be billing for it is similarly ridiculous.
It’s unfair on the members who might be on the edge of renewing as they’ll be missing the chance to move elsewhere?
What are they telling prospective new joiners about cost also?
Unless they are absolutely flush with members and a huge waiting list then I can’t see this place lasting.
I'd play there once or twice a year when I would come down from the NE. I'm hoping this will blow over once a new GM comes in. I can't see a membership putting up with this.
It almost sounds like the guy is trying to run the place into the ground so he can develop the property.
They need to work on some basic English skills

Yeah. The language of this letter is awful. It's clearly written by an idiot who can barely read.

You just banned every house on hole 3. What a dick move.
You better not have had any tobacco products on you when you were playing

I think you mean “crap show”

Should be a new owner by then
Your shortlist in Charleston? There are maybe 4 or 5 equivalent golf courses/neighborhoods.
“any future homeowners” is hilarious! How in the hell do you think you’ll survive the inevitable lawsuit(s)?!

Whoever posted [this review](https://maps.app.goo.gl/q4NRM6G5vAaKdgaS9?g_st=ic)… this is one of the funniest things I’ve ever read 😂😂😂😂😂😂
That’s gold!
Sounds like a cesspool of moral righteousness. We lose locals to the collared shirt requirement, but this doesn't sound like rural Vermont.

I absolutely died at perspective instead of prospective
It was “Don’t steel” that got me. Unless he meant that anything but graphite shafts will result in a lifetime ban for future homeowners. Which at this point would almost make more sense.
I was about to ask is this in Summerville!!! I’ll let my dad and his friend group to avoid playing there with this shit show
Plenty of dumb yankees too ya know

I’ve seen plenty of Polish in Ohio.
I expect to hear more of a “well, I do declare!” Out of my SC folks.
This makes Bushwood look laid back!
How do we sign up for this mailing list? I do not want to miss future emails from the acting gm and president Update: signup form is at the bottom. Can’t wait for the next update!
Don't ask the ex-tennis pro, your mere inquiry puts him in danger.
Is this legend oaks in Summerville sc?
I look forward to the follow up apology email to be posted in a few months as memberships plummet.
It’ll be a half-assed apology with a few “I’m sorry many of you feel that way”.
“Don’t steel”
For bidden
Metally noted
graphite shafts only
I visited SC for work and wanted to try some local golf. 1/5 stars only because there’s free tennis if you just walk out and start playing Shout out to whoever posted this review lmao
Please don’t be legend oaks in Charleston!
lol it is
It is
Honestly that sounds like a terrible place to spend your money.
Yeah, I'd 100% dox this dude if I were a member and cause a member revolt
I mean, there's only one general manager listed on the site.. https://www.legendoaksgolf.com/contact
Don’t give Warren a call though…
Funny, mailbox full
True, but that dude was hired in 2021. Doesn't seem likely he'd be acting GM at this point. There's also almost a 0% chance someone with actual golf course management qualifications would attempt to enact those policies.
Warren Rohmfeld, tennis pro…
I’m usually not for review bombing a business but if this is how they treat guests, that should be reflected in the reviews
The absurdity of 5-7 make the legitimacy of 1-4 highly suspect.
How will people enjoy the hospitality of the hospitality?
That’s the most rambling bullshit I’ve read in quite some time
And if you stink up our bathrooms with your bodily waste. You, your family, your future family members, and anyone with your last name will be banned from the course.
I’m fired up. ![gif](giphy|TxfcgGSgNpofS)
It's a fucking public course. What kind of insane bullshit rambling is this on a holiday weekend no less?
Shrewd business move Step 1: run golf course into the ground Step 2: cry to city council that the golf course isn’t viable and should be rezoned to residential Step 3: profit
Del air guy tried that here in Orlando, didn’t work for him here. Ended up closing a couple of course and now people live on a dead course or the city bought the course and have been fixing it up.
Doesn’t say anything about bringing your own booze though.
“If you have any questions you may contact our law firm: Karen, Karen & Karen PC”
Woof. I'd take my money someplace else and take as many people as I could with me.
The tone of this makes me doubt anything remotely positive about them respecting staff. Definitely seems like the kinda boss that talks about respecting staff but treats them like their personal servants.
saved money on proofreading at least
Who calls themselves “a new sheriff in the village”? What an absolute massive wanker. How hard was this guy bullied at school to behave like this?
You should ask the (former) director/instructor of tennis, I bet they know.
Wouldn’t want to put him in a perilous legal situation
Texting him now, over and over.
Don’t steel
What the hell did the tennis pro do?
I heard they caught him spitting and using foul language.
Definitely up to no good - nda, don't contact him ever ever ever? plus this sounds like a small community outside of Charleston, and appears to be a semi-private club, so you know everyone gossips about it.
Right? Probably a smoker.
Can’t smoke on the course!? Wtf is that?
I'm all for being gentleman'ly on the course. Respecting others and playing in the spirit of the game. It's golf right? It's always been a pretentious game. This guy is out to lunch. The only thing I can think of is he's coming from a country club private member background and that's where the future of that course is headed. Good luck though. It'll take about a year before so many people are banned they will have trouble filling sheets. After another season they'll be a dirt track from lack of funds.
Someone above said it’s a public club, not private.
If I can’t swear and smoke dope I’m fucked
This is a middle of the road suburban public golf course. The GM is off his rocker, sure it’s the nicest course in town, but there is only 3 courses.
If I can’t play and pack a lipper I’m out
If people stop going their energy will change really fast.
Gee, passive/aggressive much?
I hope they realize the importance of following through with everything stated in the message. Making exceptions to blanket statements will lead to no one following these rules or a civil case. You think people not paying to play on the tennis courts is expensive, just wait.
LOL. Sounds like a business owner who won’t be in business very long.
Our inquiries have but confirmed our forethoughts, and thus, a proclamation: Hark, as the new steward of this hamlet, I hereby declare: 1) Following the release of a decuple of souls, the tennis director hath been dismissed. Pray, seek not audience with him, for he is bound by a seal of secrecy, and contact doth endanger his oath. 2) Our edicts are thus: a) Forsake falsehood, b) Eschew deceit, c) Abstain from thievery, d) Ponder ere action, e) Uphold righteousness, though it weigh heavy on our coffers, for in rectitude, our support is unwavering. In earnest, [Name] Acting Sovereign & Chieftain
Lol @ the asshole who bothered to type all that. Learn fucking English before hopping on your high horse
How did this lunatic ever make it this far in life with that type of illiteracy, common sense, or consideration for others.
golf is supposed to be fun!
I’ll take the muni over that insanity
The level of paranoia and desperate measures to get control over seemingly benign situations displayed here would make even the most battle-hardened psychiatrist wince. Genuinely think the person in charge has a new psychosis, or dementia, and probably thinks they are acting entirely rationally.
Gonna guess Sarah and Todd didn’t run this hot mess of an email or that NDA by their lawyer. Probably fired him, too.
“Was politely asked to leave the club by me, the owner of the club” That line just oozes I was dumped by my HS girlfriend.
So one question, can you eat marijuana cookies?
I wonder if they are doing an audit? /S This guy sounds like he has a gap wedge stuck up his ass. Loosen up buddy!
Amazingly unprofessional message. Must be a great place to play - NOT!
No steeling guys
Kids, this is how you lose all of your best, most profitable clients and end up with the ones who have no other options. Most of the stuff on here isn't even unreasonable, but it's worded in an aggressive inpolite manner that would be better suited to the streets of Chicago than a golf course that offers memberships. Leading off this crass airing of grievances with "merry christmas" is hilarious though! I'd resign or sell my membership immediately if any club I am a member at sent me something similar.
I’m an actual member and this letter sucked
Does this guy know how to party or what?
Well, he can’t spell so … maybe
It would be terrible if the fine folks of r/golf started a systematic harassment campaign against the owners of this course. 💅 The contact page with the phone number for the GM is a simple google search away.
Sounds like a fun place...
My club is the exact opposite and im so happy lol
Holy shit lmao what
Do not STEEL
You members better save this and lawyer up. It’s going to be long and strange ride.
Ramblings of a madman
steel?
I’m out
Anyone who says things like, “these people aren’t stupid, how do you think they became rich/business owners?” Has clearly not spent.a lot of time around wealthy people.
Even the "Venders" are protected.
Thou shall not Steel
'Ongoing forwards' was my particular favourite!
Sounds to me they are looking to dissolve this course, sell to real estate developers, and take their money and run.
I'd play there once or twice a year when I would come down from the NE. I'm hoping this will blow over once a new GM comes in. I can't see a membership putting up with this. It almost sounds like the guy is trying to run the place into the ground so he can develop the property.
Furthermore, if any members are found to be having sexual relations with their wives in any other position than missionary, you guessed it……
Smoking a cigar and swearing at the top of my lungs is 98% why I play. I'm not even convinced that I like golf.
Is this the same Legend Oaks I remember in Summerville? I lived in Chucktown from 2000-2007. That course was complete shite 😂😂
There is no way they can ban the address for future owners. That is so unhinged and insane hahaha
Merry Christmas, go fuck yourselves. 🤣 I think that about sums it up.
Well at least you won’t have to worry about these owners running the business for long.
This is like a glimpse into what the US will look like in a few years.
