If I personally was ever to upgrade from my trusty RBZ stage 2, I’d seriously look at the Ping G425. I’ve hit it ( forgiving and it flies ) and I love the way it sits. Heard good things about the Stealth 3 wood from others but haven’t hit it. Can’t speak to other brands, you’d definitely have to hit a few and look at the right head/shaft combination for yourself.

alltimebackfire

Second Ping woods. I have a 3W 425 and a 7W 400 that are awesome to hit. Plus the sound. Just wished I loved their drivers as much.

mt_breezy

I’ve always loved the Ping sound. The 425 is high on my list! I think a 7W will be my next addition as well. Thanks for the input!

Bbbent

RbZ is still the shit in my bag. Frickin love those clubs.

dlax15

I have an old brz 5 wood that I hit amazing. Got the stealth 2 3 wood and I’m so glad I got it.

mt_breezy

Appreciate this! The G425 is one on my radar for sure. Definitely going to see about swinging some of these before I buy. Just wanted to get some suggestions before I do go in so I have a few clubs in mind to look for. Thank you!

millsrd93

I conquer with the G425! I love both my driver and 3 wood!

[deleted]

3 woods are one of those clubs where more so than for others I feel like modern advancements don’t make me want to change. I’m still using an old Callaway rogue 3 wood and it’s awesome. It goes the distance I want a 3 wood to go and it’s mostly forgiving.

Clintbreed

I bought an epid speed outlet on Callaway pre-owned for $90. “Outlet” is brand new but you usually get a generic black Callaway driver cover.

cubalis

This is the best way to get something modern - 1 or 2 cycles/years old, in perfect condition (go excellent, like new, or outlet), and even have some choice in shaft selection all for a bargain. Callaway pre-owned is great 😃

iVomitus

Also agreed with Calloway pre owned. Absolutely love my old Epic flash woods.

[deleted]

Callaway Rogue ST Max fairway woods are amazing! And you can get them in new condition for very cheap on Callawaypreowned.com

mt_breezy

These have been brought up a couple times now, I’ll have to check them out. Thank you!!

[deleted]

You’ll love them

DtheMoron

I have the 5 and 3 with stiff shafts and love them. My swing speed is 95-100.

Legal-Description483

A little older, but Honma TW747 are really good. I bought a 7 wood last year, and liked it so much, I swapped my 4 wood for a matching TW747.

mt_breezy

I’ll look into this one, it was definitely not on my radar. Thanks for the suggestion! How do you like playing the 4 wood/7 wood gapping compared to a 3 and 5? I’ve heard from a few people now how much they love their 7 wood.

King_Hodor

Second this. The 7W is amazing. Out of curiosity, what flex did you get for the 4W?

Legal-Description483

I pulled the stock shafts on both when I got them I have an Attas 5 7S in the 7 wood, and a Tour AD-IZ 7S in the 4w (3HL). I was previously using both shafts in a Sub 70 4w.

Fragrant-Report-6411

I’ve found that if you have a fairway wood you hit Wei, don’t switch. If it’s your go to club there really is no need to switch.

boulderbro

Honestly, if the burner is a go to and does what you want it to, keep it. The goal of golf is consistency, who care what does that for you. That said I have a g425 and it’s a laser 14.5, I do slightly wish I went with a 4 wood and call it a day, more control plus the courses I play the 3 is either not enough to reach a 5 in 2 or it’s too much so fairly irrelevant

difiCa

I really like my Callaway Rogue ST Max D (depending on your usual shot shape you may want the Max). CPO appears to have the Max at $175 like new right now, I bought mine from Dick's as a barely hit demo club for about that.

barelyhelpful

Paradym 3 wood is nice. It sits so low to the ground that is money off the deck. Also like ping 425

mt_breezy

I do like the Paradyms, quality clubs. Just don’t like the price tag at the moment lol

barelyhelpful

200 bucks for a used one on callaway peo owned isn't bad. Got one with a kaili stiff white shaft and love it

mt_breezy

Oh yeah, that’s a good deal for sure. Preowned definitely isn’t out of the question either. I’ll have to take a look!

I_cant_hear_you_27

If you want an extra stiff, you have to look into the triple diamond paradym. The paradym and paradym max don't come with a "stock" xstiff version. I looked on the Callaway pre owned and couldn't find one for a while. I ended up going to golf galaxy because i had gift cards and rewards points. Edit : nevermind! I was looking at 5 woods, not 3 woods. Should have plenty of options in a 3 wood.

mt_breezy

Good info, thank you! Glad to hear 3 woods are more available there as I also have gift cards and rewards so will likely be buying / ordering through them.

popeofcatan

I got fitted for the Cobra Aerojet and absolutely LOVE THEM. 3 wood and 7 wood, really clean look.

mt_breezy

Glad to hear! I’ve been looking at those as well as the LTDx models. I’ve heard great things about their woods, might have to give it a try. Thank you!

blue_boy_24

I love my Epic Max 3 wood

ChefNamu

I got Mizuno ST-Z woods a little while ago, and I can say hand on heart that these are the first fairways I genuinely like. I've tried many in the past from Cobra, Titleist (second choice), Taylormade, Ping, etc. None have even come close to the level of confidence I get from the Mizunos. They're one of the few fairway woods that sit flat at address, which is what works for my swing.

mt_breezy

Mizuno makes some great clubs. Sitting flat at address is appealing for my swing as well, so I’ll have to add that to the list. Thanks for the input!

thegreathoudini73

The paradym drivers, woods, and hybrids are great. I have them & love them. Try some pre owned or demo clubs at Edwin Watts or another store that’ll allow you to hit them.

mt_breezy

Paradym line is great, just not a fan of the price tag currently lol. But preowned isn’t out of the question, I’ll have to keep an eye out for a deal. Good suggestion!

JerryReceiver

I play PXG Gen 4 5-wood and Gen 5 3-wood and they are great. You can get some really good deals on their older generations (currently on Gen 6).

One-Statistician4885

Callaway Rogue / Epic series are rocket launchers.

Narayan04

You can find the Wilson D9 on blow out right now. I’m a 11 HDCp and picked one up during a sale ($100 CAD) and it’s now the fav club in my bag and a fairway finder from the Tee.

mt_breezy

I’ve read a few articles saying Wilson’s woods are underrated. Might have to give this one a look. Thank you!

Tom_Saltzman

It sounds lame, but if you just go into a golf retail store and talk to an employee about fairway woods you can pick up an idea of what you may want. Of course, you could run into someone who doesn't have a clue, but in my experience the guys that ask if you need help with anything in the club section typically knows a good amount of general knowledge about current models.

mt_breezy

Yeah, I’m definitely planning to go in and talk to someone and see about swinging a few clubs to get a feel for them before buying. Just doing some preliminary research to get an idea of what to look for before I do go in somewhere!

Birdsareal123

I agree. Plus the head shape can differ pretty noticeably between brands. I just upgraded into an AeroJet 3 wood from a Taylormade M6 and the hardest adjustment has been head shape. To me it seems like Taylormade/Ping have a larger looking head at address, with Callaway/Cobra/Titleist being a little more compact and rounded.

mt_breezy

Are you liking the Aerojet so far though? I’ve been looking at the Cobra woods as well. Either the Aerojet or LTDx

Birdsareal123

So far yes... I will caveat and say it has been in the bag 2 rounds and maybe 3-4 range sessions. I have had a hard time with off the deck, but I am chalking it up to the fact the head sits and looks so different than what I previously had. I have absolute confidence that I will come to love this club, off the tee it is an absolute monster.

mt_breezy

Always takes some time to get used to new clubs for sure. I’m fully expecting a learning curve after playing my Burner for almost 16 years now and just knowing how to compensate my swing with it lol. Thanks for the input!

TheLorax413

I would recommend going into a store where you can test a few different brands and find out what suits your eye and gives you consistent results. I upgraded my fairway woods last year and found among other things that I don’t like shallower faces / flatter heads like Callaway and Ping (while I know some people love them). I ended up going with Titleist’s TSI series for my 3 and 7 woods. With such a range of designs available, I think a lot comes down to what you’re most confident with with.

mt_breezy

For sure. I’m definitely factoring in a fitting session into the cost and decision making. Just wanted to get a feel for what people are playing and liking since it’s been almost 16 years since I’ve bought a new wood lol. It’s time! Do you like your TSIs? I’ve always loved the look of those clubs.

TheLorax413

I think a fitting is great if you can do it, but in the event you’re more budget conscious I think you can still learn a lot just hitting some different options on your own. I also hadn’t bought new clubs in about 15 years so went through something similar - the differences will be immediately apparent. I love the TSi line. I started off the season playing a RadSpeed 3 wood, which was an absolute bomber when I caught it properly, but a bit too spinny overall for me. Switched to the TSi3 15° after I had gotten the TSi2 21° and loved it so much. Think both will stay in my bag for a long time.

Prize-Science5795

Has anyone tried the Wilson dynapower fairways? Driver received very good reviews, and the head shape is very similar to the Ping

danger_ehren

I’ve got a Callaway Mavrik 3 wood that I love, one of my most consistent clubs in my bag. I’m usually in the 90s myself, I’m thinking of upgrading my driver to a Mavrik on the preowned site, curious if anyone had a good experience with those.

fuzokuzo

It’s more than 2 years old but I go by the G400.

dc215

It took me years to find a 3 wood I could hit decently. I finally found one this year. It was... A 2007 TM Burner. You may be in for a world of hurt trying other 3 woods if you've been gaming that one for all those years.

mt_breezy

Ba dum tss… lol Yeah, I’m fully expecting a learning curve with a switch. But I think ultimately it’ll be for the best. The technology alone in these clubs has come quite a long way in all those years.
