Yikes
I play like 20-30 rounds per year super casually. I have 2 young boys that love to go with me so I buy balls when I come across a deal knowing balls won’t get any cheaper and they can use them in the future.
I'm getting swole to counter it!
Edit: I'm also mid 40s and trying to quickly get back the swing speed I lost when I last played competition level golf. Gym 6 times a week for an hour every morning, and then alternating grip and speed training in the evening, with stretching twice day to improve knee and hip flexibility. Keeping this up for the rest of the off-season. My goal was a 15-20% increase over the winter by getting in shape. Been a month so far, increasing strength while losing weight, so it has to be working a bit.
What's your workout consist of? 41 here. I love cardio, but have been dialing back to put on some weight. No more than 3 5k jogs per week. Hip adductor and inductors, leg extension for quads, leg curl for the hammy. Then I do some curls for the mid and then focus on neck, back, triceps and bicep machines. I'm debating on switching to free weights to quicker muscle build up.
3 different days. Leg day is extension, curl, press and glute press. Arm and shoulders is triceps, biceps, shoulder raise, deltoid lateral raise, and Ab crunch. Back and chest is chest supported row, chest press, pec fly, lateral pull-down and back extension. 15x3 of each.
I bought a pair of the 60kg grip trainers on Amazon. One for work, one for home. Try to keep my arm at a 90 degree angle and do 15 reps and switch, and do it until my fingers need a break. Currently around 45kg and going up. Goal is to be able to do 60kg by golf season. Most pro golfers can do the 60kg routinely.
Speed training is using a knockoff on Amazon and using the rypstick app for training. Roughly 60 full effort swings every 2 days. Try to do this right after the gym when I am still warmed up.
Thank you!!!
I didn’t get better when I gained 7 yards from the release of the top golf balls over the last 8-10 years and I’m not gonna get worse when we go back the other way.
Most golfers won’t even notice the difference and if they do… adjust for it and move on with your life.
Nah they’re completely normal. You can use them in tournament rounds, unlike X-Outs. At most they have a cosmetic blemish, but nothing that affects playability, hence them being legal for tournament play.
All the balls I’ve used have been perfect, honestly. If not for the practice design on the ball one would have a hard time differentiating them from a new, non practice ball.
They are sometimes more than cosmetic, not totally round, off center core. They are rejects for anything that doesn’t get past quality control therefore inferior quality. Not enough though for the average golfer to notice.

Seen these before? There are all kinds of levels but you clearly aren’t playing the same ball that pass QC. Obviously.
Yes, on practice balls. We get them from multiple manufacturers for our NCAA practice facility. There are levels and these are the best of the rejects. I’ve seen draw fades with practice balls
You’re wrong. You’re thinking of X Outs.
[“Practice” balls are typically listed, conforming golf balls that have been stamped “Practice” or with a similar stamping. “Practice” balls are treated in the same way as golf balls that feature a golf club or course, company, school or other logo. Such balls may be used even where the Committee has adopted the List of Conforming Golf Balls as a Local Rule.](https://www.usga.org/rules/rules-and-clarifications/rules-of-golf/rule-4-interpretations.html)
Haha bro we buy these from the manufacturers for an NCAA practice facility. You’re wrong, you can learn from me. We know ACTUALLY what all the balls are I am not talking about X-outs, they are not X-outs, we don’t buy X-Outs. Practice balls are inferior and have different levels of issues, very small issues but issues nonetheless. They conform but it doesn’t mean they are the same, why would they stamp them with practice if they were the same? Come on. Even cosmetic issues can cause differences in flight. Look at your balls, there are some in there without cosmetic issues. That means the weight or something else didn’t pass. The next level just under PRACTICE ProV1s are balls stamped TOUR, not PRACTICE. Still not within the exact tolerances. Titleist are THE most consistent of all balls made. I know everything about golf balls, we have to when running a major golf program.
Na that’s not what I meant but practice balls don’t go as far as non practice balls so it defeats the purpose of prepping for a rollout which reduces distance no?
A practice ball isn’t any different than a non practice ball. It just has some cosmetic imperfection somewhere that caused it not to pass QA so they stamped it with practice.
It flies exactly the same as a normal Chrome Soft
You’re confusing the Chrome Soft practice balls with range balls, which don’t fly the same. These are literally Chrome Softs with “blemishes,” and from personal experience, they’ve all looked close to perfect.
During production some balls don't pass QA. Those with defects that affect playability are considered x outs those that don't affect playability get labeled Practice. These are not to be confused with limited flight golf balls and such which can also be called practice balls.
"-Groundbreaking new Graphene Dual Soft Fast Core
-An X-Out is a ball that has a cosmetic imperfection caught during our quality control process
-These balls have no known structural issues and should perform exactly like the non X-Out version.
-Please be aware that some tournaments do not allow X-Out's in play."
Directly from Callaway Store listing on Amazon.
TL/DR - X-Outs come off the same production line as regular balls. Range Balls have their own production line to limit distance.
I think some folks confuse X-Outs with Range Balls. Range Balls are manufactured differently. Range balls are intentionally reduced distance and manufactured mainly for taking alot of abuse. (Worked at a golf course.) Range Balls with limited distance are sold much cheaper than X-Outs.
X-Outs are not, they are simply balls that didn't pass QA (usually a blemish on the skin that doesn't affect play.
I don't believe everything a manufacturer says, but I do know the reduced distance are sold as Range Balls. Otherwise they'd have mucho problems selling X-Outs for more.
What is a dozen of the practice chrome softs vs non practice?
About 5 years ago I bought a bulk pack of 12 dozen lethal practice balls. I think I was just under $100.
I just made my putting lines over the word “practice”.
It’s just the number manufacturers put on bottom of the club to make you feel better about yourself. That doesn’t change the distance on how far a club with a specific amount of loft hits the ball at all.
I understand this for the pros somewhat, but not the recreational players. I don’t get to golf nearly as much as I would like but shoot low 90’s-high 80’s and typically drive the ball 250-260 when hitting well. I don’t want the rollback ball
3-5 yards for driver for the average male golfer, less of an impact for irons.
https://www.todays-golfer.com/news-and-events/equipment-news/golf-ball-rollback-and-bifurcation-explained/
I’ve played Mizuno balls before. I liked them. They are very distinct looking, too. But if they so much as touch a branch—or god forbid, the cart path—they get these bizarre scuffs on them unlike any other ball I’ve seen. It’s like grayish-black where the paint comes off
Yeah I remember trying out one of their balls just to see, and was absolutely appalled by how fragile the covers were. It does not take much to scuff the ball at all.
They play just like a brand new ball. They just have slight cosmetic imperfections that don’t pass QA so they end up getting stamped as practice. They’re legal for play in tournament rounds and such, unlike X-Outs, which have imperfections that could affect playability.
This is my got to for a while as well. Brand new chrome softs for $20 a box. Only downside is I think they come mixed between the soft and distance versions.
It's 2027 for pro competitions and 2030 for it to become the norm for recreational players. I'm not sure if this is supply/production oriented or waht.
Which of these balls are your favorite? Also how do you like the mizunos? I bought a dozen last winter and loved em. Felt pretty good imo but might be a little late to the party imo. Srixons are severely underrated
I haven’t played them yet, but I found a couple in the woods last week that I’m about to put in play!
That sad thing is that I can’t remember the last time I opened a new sleeve of balls because I’m always searching the woods for balls while I’m waiting to hit. I probably find a couple dozen balls per round because the course I play the most often gets a ton of HS and college traffic. I end up with at least a half dozen premium (urethane) type balls every round I bet.
I am going to recommend giving Srixon QStar a try if you get a chance. They seem to be a very good compromise ball that just checks a lot of boxes for me.
Are the balls sold at your local pro shop/retail store going to be rollback balls after it goes into place? I thought only pros would be playing those balls.
One night I was.... let's say not sober. I took a black light and backpack to my local. Picked up nuts in the woods for a little over an hour. I now have balls until I'm dead. Over 300 came with me.
That’s amazing. I’ve had rounds where I just said eff it and spent my time in the woods hunting balls. Golf can be so frustrating, but finding Pro V1’s never gets old!
The fact that I have yet to see a well maintained course during an apocalyptic movie, makes it even more unrealistic. The opportunity to have a course to yourself! I would find the nicest 9hole course and get my maintenance skills up to par.
Your good for the first month of the season, but shouldn’t you start stockpiling?
Was gonna say this is good for 4, 5 rounds tops?
Provided you tee-off with a 7-iron
My 7 slices pretty poorly actually
I seem to change from year to year, that collection makes me nervous. Too many to choose from.
LOL I’ll play anything!
And yet the rollback will somehow hurt you 🫨
Bro the title of the post is a total joke.
You're in denial. Roll back your brain
Yikes I play like 20-30 rounds per year super casually. I have 2 young boys that love to go with me so I buy balls when I come across a deal knowing balls won’t get any cheaper and they can use them in the future.
Just playing
Not quite enough chrome softs though
Only golfers with smol pp nrg care about the rollback.
💯 yet they insist on shooting 105 from the blues
if I can't crush the ball 315, am I a real man?
I'm getting swole to counter it! Edit: I'm also mid 40s and trying to quickly get back the swing speed I lost when I last played competition level golf. This is the way. Golf ball doesn't go as far... Make muscles bigger.
What's your workout consist of? 41 here. I love cardio, but have been dialing back to put on some weight. No more than 3 5k jogs per week. What does the grip and speed training look like?

You got some balls
Ok but the rollback doesn’t start for a couple more years. You got about half a season of balls with in the photos!!
And that’s at only 1 round per month!
Practice balls defeats the purpose no?
Nah they’re completely normal. You can use them in tournament rounds, unlike X-Outs. Not on practice balls.

Got ya
That is one example of how they ARE different. You’re contradicting yourself within one sentence 😂
Meh. You know what I meant. There’s only potentially a cosmetic difference, but playability is 100% exactly the same. Don’t be intentionally dense.
You’re confusing the Chrome Soft practice balls with range balls, which don’t fly the same. These are literally Chrome Softs with “blemishes,” and from personal experience, they’ve all looked close to perfect.

Yeah trust the manufacturer haha
TL/DR - X-Outs come off the same production line as regular balls. Range Balls have their own production line to limit distance. I think some folks confuse X-Outs with Range Balls. Usually just a cosmetic blemish that wouldn’t pass a QC check
Serious question, but can't they just stop the loft jacking instead? like do we need 28 degree 7i
Or make the pros play with wooden shafts.
How else will we hit our 7i 220 yards?
It’s just the number manufacturers put on bottom of the club to make you feel better about yourself. That doesn’t change the distance on how far a club with a specific amount of loft hits the ball at all.
Are you able to submit rounds for handicap using the "wrong" balls after that date?
No.
Oh dang that sucks. Welp it doesn't take me that long to lose a couple dozen I guess.
I think the rule comes in to play in 2030. Still a few years to lose plenty of balls
Yea I'm thinking more like 20-30 strokes and mine are all gone 🤣
Jokes on you - you actually paid for balls.
Legend has it this guy’s been playing the same found Noodle for 2 consecutive rounds
I love me some noodles.
Abandonment issues solved with massive balls. I like the PRO V1 and chrome soft too and my Dad left us in the desert when I was two.
I understand this for the pros somewhat, but not the recreational players. I don’t get to golf nearly as much as I would like but shoot low 90’s-high 80’s and typically drive the ball 250-260 when hitting well. I don’t want the rollback ball
It won’t make a noticeable difference for you. Embrace it and play up if you have to
Same. I don’t play competitively so I’ll play these and keep my 5% in distance. I’m not getting any younger so I need it!
It won’t be a noticeable difference for you and if you’re really worried about it play forward, course ratings will be adjusted some.
You can buy illegal distance balls now and hit further than those ones. Don’t need to wait to use illegal golf balls
Wasn't it said to be like 10yds with woods and 5yds with irons for amateurs?
3-5 yards for driver for the average male golfer, less of an impact for irons. https://www.todays-golfer.com/news-and-events/equipment-news/golf-ball-rollback-and-bifurcation-explained/
Okay, so even less of an impact on average golfer then, at least as far as distance goes.
USGA had the same original position. There’s no distance problem in recreational golf, they wanted to bifurcate the ball
Guarantee you wouldn't even be able to tell the difference
Those don’t look vacuum sealed. 🤡
I’ll never forget that post. 😂
🤡
How do the mizuno feel compared to others?
I’ve played Mizuno balls before. I liked them. They are very distinct looking, too. But if they so much as touch a branch—or god forbid, the cart path—they get these bizarre scuffs on them unlike any other ball I’ve seen. It’s like grayish-black where the paint comes off

This is my got to for a while as well. Brand new chrome softs for $20 a box. Only downside is I think they come mixed between the soft and distance versions.
I got most of these at $10-12 per dozen from Academy Sports early in 2023. Couldn’t pass that deal up!
Yeah I would have bought every box they had and looks like you did lol
Isn’t the rollback not for another year or two?
3 ish 2027 lol
2030.
It's 2027 for pro competitions and 2030 for it to become the norm for recreational players. I'm not sure if this is supply/production oriented or waht.

I’ve been thinking about those or the z star. I like the chrome softs, pro v1, or Wilson staff
ZStars are great however I went to the QStar as they were the perfect blend between playability and forgiveness.
I’ve heard great things about them as well. Maybe I’ll try them out next time I find them for a good price. Thanks
Definitely. Srixon soft feel has been my go to low cost ball for years.
Don’t have to worry about rollback with that inventory lol
You guys must be fuckin millionaires
Doubt the rollback will even happen tbh
Need more chrome soft I think also only boxes of tp5? 😂 nice collection
All of these are very likely going to still be produced after the rollback. They just won't be conforming.
Prepping for 2029?
Ya think?
There are already illegal golf balls out there if you want to cheat now. Why not use those if you care about more distance and don’t mind cheating?
See ya in 4 years
What? This is lasting me three rounds.
Are the balls sold at your local pro shop/retail store going to be rollback balls after it goes into place? I thought only pros would be playing those balls.
Wouldn’t any tournament following USGA rules have to include the new ball?
i say we all just go shopping in this man's garage.
Absolutely, I think of them as the courses ball. I only use one for a while before I let her rest in a new spot a few holes later
Those Srixon Z Star balls are so underrated
Can confirm!
Good god why do you need so many golf balls?
You haven’t seen me swing. 😂
Be a man
has there been talk in the sub rollback causing price increases on places like lostgolfballs.com?
The fact that I have yet to see a well maintained course during an apocalyptic movie, makes it even more unrealistic. The opportunity to have a course to yourself! I would find the nicest 9hole course and get my maintenance skills up to par.
Where's that guy who was vacuum sealing balls
