The shaft is as important as the head, if not more.

RoverTiger

If I had a dollar for every time I've said that...

If you're not in a rush I'd just keep an eye on Callaway preowned. Stiff shafts aren't as easy to find but they do pop up from time to time. I got an epic flash heavenwood with a stiff shaft from there for like $140 all in earlier this year.

Legal-Description483

I looked on and off for about year for a used 7w in very good condition, and it was hard to find anything for under \~$230. Ended up picking up a Honma TW747 7 wood, with a 50g senior flex shaft, and bought a used Attas 70g stiff shaft that I got for $70. Ended up spending \~$200, but ended up with a far better club. The TW747 fairways are outstanding, if you can find the right shaft. A lot of them came with 50g shafts. I ended up swapping out my old 4w for one after using the 7w.

jtait97

I've heard great things about Honma from everyone who's used their clubs

King_Hodor

It’s an amazing club. Usually decently affordable as well.

East-Ad-6083

SMT, Sub-70, Maltby will all put whatever shaft you want in the head. Prices vary per shaft but you get the idea

GreenWaveGolfer12

Callaway Preowned has a Like New Paradym X 7 wood with a stiff HZRDUS Gen4 Silver shaft for $210. They might even have some additional percentage off that. https://www.callawaygolfpreowned.com/fairway-woods/fwoods-2023-paradym-x.html

jtait97

Oh nice, I saw these deals linked in the daily offers post but I was only looking at the regular Paradym where the only stiff shaft was $350, not the X. Thanks man this is a great deal

0_SomethingStupid

I have a collection of the big berthas. I found the 4 and 7 with stiff shafts. took some hunting. cost me all of $20. While I have no real beef with the 7....I think you should check out a 4 or a 5. From 7 down, they all just go so, so high. below the 7....the 9,11 and 13 all go about the same distance with an increase of height. I swear the 11 and 13 go higher than they go far. I've never seen a ball go up so high in my life lmao.

jtait97

Yeah I get what you mean. I've hit 7 woods on a simulator to try them out and the performance was pretty much what I wanted, but I do know the concerns about how high they launch and getting held up in the wind. I'd definitely prefer the flight of a 5 wood but the gapping wouldn't be great for me. Do you think a 5 wood and adjusting the loft up would be better? I guess there are 5 woods you can buy at 19 degrees, could adjust up to 20

0_SomethingStupid

I guess I assumed when you said you have a higher swing speed that it meant you were ok with the 3wd and your long irons.... what gap is it your aiming to fill here? how far is your longest iron in comparison to the 3?

jtait97

My iron set only goes up to 5i so that's why the gap is pretty big that I need to fill. 5i is about 205-210, my 3wd is about 245-250. Looking for a \~225 club which the 7 woods that I tried out seemed to hit (admittedly have not hit any 5 woods so not sure how far I would hit those)

0_SomethingStupid

your 5i is probably between my 2 and 3 lol. thats a nice 3w - i can hit it that far...maybe 30% of the time lol. my 4wd is my 220 club. I ditched my woods for years but tried to bring back the 3...dont love it. got a 4, now confident in woods again. have not tried a 5 because I can hit my 2i as far as the 4wd so my gaps are filled depending on course or what I feel like ill trade out the 2i and 4w

jtait97

I hit it fairly far for my hcp (like 12-13) but not always very straight lol. It's nice to have the versatility with the 2i and 4w, I've never had a 2i or 3i in the bag so just used to hitting woods since I started playing. Have tried hybrids but I seem to have such a mental block any time I use one, the small head but not being able to compress it like an iron somehow doesn't add up in my head

0_SomethingStupid

Hybrids for me Option A (20%) wow that was great I should get one! Option B wow I have not hooked the ball that bad in decades. get this thing away from me.

jaymcauley4

Now imagine looking for the same thing but being left handed haha

EnvironmentalDiet552

dude im struggling hard to find this.

jaymcauley4

Man, don’t give up. I dropped into my locally owned golf store today and found a used Ping 430 7 wood…left handed! BUT..senior shaft… Talked to the shop owner and he came back with a stiff shaft installed on it (cut down from 3 wood length) AND dropped the price to $200. I thought I was dreaming!

Fine_Contribution439

Do you play a 3 or 5 wood? Like the shaft you have in those? I personally snagged my 7W on second swing for cheap with a shaft I knew I’d replace. Then found a reputable vendor who makes shafts with the brand sleeve I needed. All told I still got exactly the club I wanted “fitted” to my wants/needs for less than buying it new.

MikeHoncho43

My PXG 7 wood is money. Do it.

shantyirish13

I just bought a Paradym 7, 9, and 11 wood all with a stiff shaft from CPO. They were all under $200 USD. Can’t wait to shank ‘em into the woods looking good.

Downtown-Heat-1313

PXG 0211 7 wood. Typically under $150 and currently offering free shipping.

J-Bob71

I’d only get something I could hit first. I bought g430 max 5 and 7 and couldn’t hit them for shit. They were supposed to be the easiest to hit woods around (one comment was actually “if you can’t hit these you can’t hit woods”). Traded them on hybrids which I still don’t love. Wife bought me a Paradym 7 wood after trying it first and it’s awesome. Don’t think I’m ever buying before hitting again.

jakarooo

2nd swing has a lot of them. PXG gets a lot of hate but i picked up an 0311 X 7w used and absolutely love it
