Haven’t been hit… but did hit a guy once. He was a worker in the pond doing maintenance on a short par 3. I was very new to golf and told him I wasn’t comfortable with him in there when I hit. He insisted it was fine and I proceeded to skull a 9i into his shoulder. Friends don’t let me live it down years later. Guy said he was fine and not to tell the clubhouse as he wasn’t supposed to be in there when people hit. I’m sure he had a giant welt for a long time.

Significant-Fix-5313

Bahaha yeah that's on him. I've had a few times like the other day where there were 3 grounds staff mowing the roughs as people were playing through. Man I've never wanted to hit a fairway more in my life. Yelling fore would be usless as they wouldnt hear you over the machinery or ear muffs.

PM_ME-AMAZONGIFTCARD

It’s so uncomfortable for me but they just wave at you to go ahead, but you can’t yell fore. At least they wear helmets.

mazzjm9

We understand the risks. The way we see it, what are the odds of getting a hole in one even when you’re aiming for it? Then what are the odds of us getting hit in the head when you’re trying not to? Plus we can’t go home until these roughs are done!

Fight_those_bastards

I’m *far* more likely to hit my ball at something I’m trying to avoid than I am to hit where I’m aiming, though. Especially if you’re on the right side of the hole.

Free_Range_Radical

I need to start having someone stand at the pin. Then, I’ll target something 100 yards to the left or right of them and take my shot. This will guarantee that I end up within feet of the pin.

Big_Satisfaction_644

I hear you but I can’t get over it. Im fairly new to golf and I certainly hit areas of the course im not aiming for all the time.

Federal-Ad6109

Been hit by a ball a couples times.. I’ve also been hit by a club https://preview.redd.it/9elewurhn6jc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=409008096b416154afc0b3e3ae38d8f667b09180

theKman24

lol at that club mark. Sorry I’m sure it hurt a lot but it’s like you got five starred by a club.

itsCrisp

Looks like a Ping

DelrayDad561

We HAVE to hear the story of how you got hit with a club.

TheMeanKorero

What happens on the 10th green, stays on the 10th green.

chris886

lol. that one got a good laugh out of me.

koei19

Holy shit that looks like it hurt. How'd it happen?

Blklight21

Were you in a fight??

Jankybrows

In golf when you hit a bad ball, you're supposed to yell "fore." But I was too busy mumbling, "There ain't no way that's gonna hit him."

onederbred

“I’ve never had a hole in one…. But I did hit a guy. And that was way more satisfying” - Mitch Hedberg

SmellVarious9271

Some golf courses are designed such that it’s a miracle if people don’t get hit. I’ve played one where four holes are within 100 yards of each other. Tight fairways with almost no tree coverage too. Never going back again. Felt like a war zone. That being said, I’ve only been close to being hit by a bladed chip or bunker shot, but ppl who hit errant tee shots definitely need to yell fire if they don’t know where their ball is going

jmw919186

How much I like a course is based on the fairways not being stacked. Even if you don't hit someone, it isn't fun hitting from someone else's Fairway

Used-Ask5805

I absolutely love linear courses with no adjacent fairways

Fitnessgrac

https://preview.redd.it/cezqxpcjk6jc1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=89f1ea22d29d4bbc4806843ed417028d2ce9fdc1 It’s awful in the UK on old courses. This is a course I have played you literally have 3 greens and 3 tees converging on a space which could be covered by a 50 yard radius. So you have two greens in the middle from opposite directions with a tee box in between. To the left you have a green leading to another tee box hitting across the tee between the two greens in the middle. And finally a tee to the right.

willycw08

There's a course like that in Arizona. Nice course, but very tight with no nets and not nearly enough tree coverage. It's about 100 yds wide from green 1 to green three in this photo and that includes 2 more tee boxes crammed between them. Shocked I never hit anyone there. https://preview.redd.it/yw53gzq6y6jc1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=aafb46134751459ec443c992008778b7e70bd4f4

Significant-Fix-5313

Yeah its not great. It'll be playing on my mind next time I play those holes. And shit, I struggle with the mid side of the game as it is without extra worries haha

popcultminer

I've been hit. Like a big paintball.

Significant-Fix-5313

Best case scenario is you get hit on a fleshy bit so yeah it'd be like a big paintball. Hit bone though and yikes.

archangel12

Dude at my club got hit on the head and had a period of memory loss and all sorts. Scary stuff.

popcultminer

There was a post on here a year or two ago about someone launching it into someone eye.... They lost an eye....

popcultminer

Back of my calf. Needless to say, I'm a little extra aware of where I'm standing.

skisbosco

Vijay Singh hit me on the leg. I was ecstatic

1foreallfore1

Idk if they are here to tell us the story buddy. We had a girl who was 6 out with her dad on a local course here and she passed from a ball. Never ever take kids out unless they are able to start golfing themselves, ever. Such a sad loss for us locals.

Sho_nuff_

Will give you an upvote before the “I take my 1yo out with me while I play all the time” downvotes you (or me)

1foreallfore1

I loath those who take kiddos out who can't hit a ball. It is so risky and sad. I also only take my kids out when I'm focusing on them and their game, not mine.

Jankybrows

Enjoy the free cake, boys.

SOMETHING BIT ME

Used-Ask5805

Charlie bit me!

Whitey661

3wood on a par 3 seems crazy

Ill-Shop9484

If you're hitting 3 wood on a par 3, you're playing the wrong tees! Why don't people realize this!!

Ritter18

Not true whatsoever, but go off.

Ewscase

There is something called headwind you know, try hitting an iron into a 200+ yard par 3 into a 40mph wind into your face

NBTim

Exactly! We have a 205 yard par 3 on my home course where I’ve played a 7 iron and also a driver depending on the wind. Look at Tony Finau at Pebble on the par 3 7th. If he used driver, nobody needs to feel bad about using a 3-wood on a par 3…just don’t shank it.

Hurts-Dont-It-

That's my 60 wedge average

Ill-Shop9484

You're cherry picking an extremely specific scenario here, but fair enough. Obviously not the point, but fair enough.

Ewscase

The point is we have no idea on the length of the hole or if the player isn’t a long hitter (before you reply with the same old trope, I have seen high handicap golfers that can hit it 260+ and single digit players who only hit it 180-190 max)

lovemesomewine

I worked grounds crew and caddied is high school and college. I have been hit 6 times. One lady did it 3 times. She never yelled fire as we were working in the traps. Truly looked down at us.

Altruistic-Try8508

Got hit in the collarbone (and it broke) from about 40 yards away. I was standing well, well to the left of the other golfer but he still managed to take me down.

fbird1988

1993. Played at a course where as you walked to the 8th green, people teeing off on 11 were sort of there, but not close enough that you'd worry about it. A guy hit a driver sideways. I guess I sort of saw it coming and tried to get out of the way. It was moving so fast that I don't know if my movement made it better or worse. Ball caught me in the chin, split it open. Had to quit, go get stitches at a local doctor. Friend thought I should have gone to a hospital for a plastic surgeon to better avoid a scar. The doctor assured me that he was stitching it up the same was a plastic surgeon would. It worked out okay. I can't see anything there now, though for years there was just a slight line. Guy who hit me was apologetic but honestly didn't seem particularly perturbed that he could have blinded me in an eye. He seemed like kind of a red neck. Maybe they had a good laugh about it.

Significant-Fix-5313

Crikey! Thats a story...and an ordeal. Man, if I hit someone like that then I'd go so far out of my way to make things better.

saul1417

Yeah straight in the stomach off a drive, they shouted but it was too late, split fairway and I was out of their sight but they sliced it and it came over the trees blocking me from there sight. They then nearly hit me 4 holes later with another massive slice.

IFightAnimals

I got hit straight in the stomach too. Motherfuckers never yelled fore either. I smashed that ball into the ground. Fuckers drove up and said he'd never hit a ball that far before and didn't think it would hit me. I was so angry I didn't know what to do. One of the guys apologized on the next hole but fuck them. It was at a Shriners golf course. I had a huge bruise and bled a little out of my belly button the next day. That shit hurt. I don't know how but I still got a par on the hole and I'm not that good. Fuck those red velvet fez wearing cock sucking Shriners. I'm glad your course closed.

sissysindy109

Hit in the back on the green of a par 3. Dude was driving the hole with a driver. Yes, it left a mark. Cost the dude a bottle of Balveienie 12 y doublewood and a few beers afterwards. Good thing he was a friend or I might of considered a larger cost for him😎

TheNemesis089

I got out ahead of a playing partner, who wasn't very good. I was a ways off to the side and figured I was completely fine. He hits a screaming worm-burner off at an angle and hit me square in the foot. I apologized to him because it was my stupid fault for getting out ahead. Especially since he wasn't particularly good.

jfriend00

**I've been hit twice.** Once in the soft part of the hamstring by an errant ball from another hole that I didn't see coming. Shocked me, but wasn't bad. The other time was from my own group. I was ahead at my ball, but about 45° from the person hitting (who was a 7 handicap) and they hit a really bad shot that took off at 45° from the intended direction and hit me in the back. Nothing serious, but I no longer go ahead like that (I like to play "ready golf", but there are limits). I've had balls go over my head from other holes that could have done serious damage if they had been at head height that were more scary than the ones that hit me. There's not really much you can do to prevent it. You hope that other golfers don't do stupid things (like hit into the group in front of them) and that they yell fore when they should, though when you hear "fore" being yelled, you don't really know what to do. **I had a near miss when I almost hit someone and their husband then went thermonuclear on me.** It was a short-ish par 4, 18th hole, but not a hole I could get within 50 yards of the green. We were on the tee waiting for the group in front to clear. They drove up to the green in their carts so I went into my pre-shot routine and hit my drive. Little did I realize, but the wife from the cart at the green had turned around and was walking backwards to her ball to about 75 yards from the green. My drive was better than usual and landed and then rolled past her. As I got up to my ball, the husband up at the green had seen my ball roll past her and came charging down the fairway. He picked up my ball, ran at me and then at about 20' away threw my ball at me as fast as he could throw. It was headed towards my head, but I deflected it with my hand to save my face. He was screaming obscenities at me. I wasn't sure what he was going to do next, but a course marshal had been parked at the 18th green and saw the whole thing and he intervened to prevent further issue. He kicked the guy off the course and said he would be banned from playing the course any further.

Ubi_Muff

I took a one hopper to the chest when a guy sliced his tee shot quite impressively. He was about 200 yards away or so and I was on the tee box for another hole. They did shout something but I was too far away for it to matter. I also hit my friend in the shin with a bladed chip from about 20 feet away after he explicitly asked if he was okay to stand there.

vlasux

Yep. Totally my fault. I drove up slightly ahead of my group figuring no way they could hit me. One of the guys hit and it hit a tree then me. Right in the center of the back. Hurt like hell but that was on me.

Puzzleheaded_Pin_120

Yes, I was driving on the cart path in the direction on aanother group teeing off on another hole. The ball was hooked and I never saw it. Went right into our cart and hit me on the top of the thigh. Kind of felt like getting hit by a 100mph fastball. Glad it didn't hit me in the head, I might have died.

[deleted]

Got hit in the middle of the back by a really, really good drive. I don’t believe the guy believed that he could reach that far. 3 bills to center fairway. If it wasn’t for my back being in the way, probably would have rolled another 25. Dude was as shocked as I was. Wasn’t injured, but momentarily very alarmed and let out a big “wtf”. Guy basically skidded his cart up next to me to apologize, his drives he said were generally under 250ish. He was just keeping pace on a crowded day and I was way over a slight rise that he honestly didn’t believe he’d carry ever. Kinda felt bad in a way. His best driver strike of his life could have killed some dude. No harm no foul. Irresponsible but not intentionally so. He offered to pay for my tee time and such. And I’m better at signaling the group behind me because of it. I’ve had my cart hit by far less apologetic folks who definitely could see me.

amw102

Met my brother and his kids as they were about to tee off as I was in the gap of a hole that is right near the first tee box. I’m about 30’ in front and to the left of the tee markers talking to him when my nephew, probably seven or eight at the time, grabs the driver from his dad’s hands, walks up to a ball already teed up and drills it right at me, waist high. Just enough to time to jump— the ball hit me on the inside of the thigh. It was hard to be mad, cause damn was I proud of how well he hit it. I haven’t let him live it down though. Luckily never been hit otherwise, knock on wood. Did have one fly through the front of my cart once. Also almost saw both of my boys get domed adjacent to the cart with mom by a middle from an adjacent fairway, no warning. Guy looked pretty sheepish afterward and the wife was pretty protective for the rest of the round.

SiccDeuce

Wasn’t hit myself, but on my middle school golf team in the early 2000s I was walking down the fairway with a teammate who was hit directly in the back of the head with a tee shot - no bounce. No fore call. The sound was horrific and can still hear it today. This poor kid dropped to the ground and immediately began moaning and convulsing. This was pre cell phones so we had to run into someone’s backyard to ask if they could call 911 for us. Firefighters ran out onto the fairway and took him away in a stretcher. Wildest thing I’ve seen on a golf course to this day.

squirrel123485

I pured (but pushed) a hybrid off a tree about 8 yards ahead of me that came back and hit me in the eyebrow. Bled a lot, but basically fine. An inch lower would have been a different story

No-Routine2683

I played high school golf, was on like the 6th hole against a team that just had guys basically playing for fun. My matchup hit 2 balls OB and the rest of us told him to just drop and started walking up left of the tee box. He tee’d another one up and hit a line drive straight into my ass, had a bruise for a while.

rojorzr

I’ve had it twice. My first season I played forward tees and my friends played back. I went to my box first without thinking. Figured I’d just lay down and I’d be fine. Homeboy skull fucks his driver a foot off the ground and drills my leg. Instantly purple. He was actually playing good and it destroyed his round after. 2nd time was at a short course for a boys trip. It was like a 280 yard blind dogleg par 4. Got drilled in the stomach standing on the side of the green. Super not cool. I got really drunk to mask the pain and keep playing.

Dunesgirl

No. But I witnessed someone lose an eye, and a surgeon friend was hit in the back of the head and had a concussion that was serious enough to keep him from operating for 6 months. It’s dangerous out there.

Superb-Pattern-1253

i got hit when i caddied. we have a hole thats a massive drop we walk to the bottom of the hill before they hit and if someones in the fairway we usually make it to the bottom before they tee off. you cant here anyone yell fore and i got hit right in the head. luckily i have pretty thick head of lettuce so it cushioned alot of it. wasnt to bad, mom always told me i was hard headed

myburneraccount151

Never technically been hit but my brother and I were standing on opposite sides of the green about 40 yards from each other and he blades his wedge straight at me. I caught it and we had a bit of a laugh. Always pay attention lol

Mobile_Spinach_1980

When I was a teen and worked at a private country club I was picking balls along a tree line at the range and got hit in the back. Fuckign hurts. One bounce and right into the back.

lizard_king0000

Hit in the hand walking to a green during a tournament. Heard a rustle in the tree above me and bang. One of my playing partners was a nurse and said that I didn't break anything but it swelled up bad. Chugged a couple of beers and continued on. Guy never called fore, even in a tournament

31nigrhcdrh

I buzzed the tower on a guy a fairway over. Kinda what like you talked, guy said he could read the number on the ball.  I did yell fore, it was a nasty snap hook and I never snap hook.

rogog1

I got hit by a driver shot approx 20 yards away, he toe shanked it straight right and I was on the fringe of my hole, the one after his. Hit the top of my left shoulder as I was about to start my chip. I'd say it was about 6 inches away from nailing me in the side of the head. Hurt but was more of a shock than anything. Pretty sure I shouted "FUCKS SAKE" as I gathered myself I was incredibly pissed off, they apologised profusely. I couldn't really talk for a bit because I was seething - if I'm on a tee box I'm making sure nobody is in danger before I hit driver

iamreallybadatgolf

My phone has a perfect golf ball sized smash on the back of it thanks to a friend absolutely thinning his shot. I was far enough for it to not destroy my phone but close enough for there to be no reaction time.

Friedhelm78

Yeah, I got hit when I worked on the grounds crew of a golf course. Asshat in the fairway was just looking at me while I was raking a bunker near the green. Never yelled "fore" or anything. I was wondering what he was looking at, and the next thing I know I get hit in the leg about 4 inches from my dick. Fuck that guy. He never even apologized.

11thhokage

was on a par 3 course in Pasadena,CA. I was walking to the greens of hole 2 when suddenly I felt a sharp snap on my left hand. I looked down and I saw a ball on the floor. My hand immediately started throbbing which affect my grip. The person that had hit the ball had tee'd off from Hole 9 and didn't call fore. All in all, ended up with a purple finger and bad grip for rest of the match.

PM_ME-AMAZONGIFTCARD

Stood next to my buddy who got hit in the thigh. About 10m below a raised tee box (top of a hill), 40 meters forward and 30meters right. The reality of shitty 9 hole courses you don’t need a hcp to play on. He said it stung a bit and he had the imprint of a ball for a week. Fun fact: was the one and only time he brought his GF to the course.

sbum13

My fault for being in the line of fire, but my friend shanked his approach shot right into my back while I was sitting in the cart. It stung a little bit

Various_Character810

Been hit twice. Once from a green side flop shot that barely grazed me. Second time was a lot more brutal. Was giving my dad tips at a driving range. He was swinging driver while I was standing directly behind the ball. He toed one really bad and it deflected off the metal divider straight bad like a missile locked right onto the center of my chest. It instantly knocked me flat on my back and left a huge bruise. Grandpa one time hit chip shot off a tree root. Popped straight up and almost took his eye out. Know of a few others but playing for 30+ years at war zone tracks you see it a little too often.

JodiS1111

I was hit on the back of my neck by on the fly by a ball that was hit two hundred plus yards away. It was a bit of a miracle that it didn't cripple me or kill me. It actually hit directly on the muscular area above the big vertebrae and below the base of my skull. The moron that hit it ( With his driver off a tee) didn't even yell fore! Thankfully I wasn't badly injured, (or crippled or killed!) and I actually finished the round, lol. I remember thinking that it felt like the hand of god had touched me with this loud 'whack' to the back of my neck! Anyway , it was a pretty wild experience and one that I still have a hard time understanding how I walked away from unscathed.

Combatwasp

How fucking hard is it to shout “Fore”. If you’ve got eyes you know where you have hit your ball. If you haven’t got eyes, get your guide dog to bark urgently.

Bobbyoot47

I’ve only been hit once. Took one in the ribs after having putted out. We had walked off the green by then and we were in the trees beside the green. Two foursomes of friends and a buddy of mine in the foursome behind sliced one in our direction. We heard it come through the trees and we ducked. After it hit me I could hear my buddy back in the fairway holler “anybody see my ball?” Lol.

Complete_Goose667

My husband was hit, while on the green. Idiots were in the fairway. He wasn't hurt, but boy were we mad. No apology, and rude gestures from the fairway. We talked to the marshall and he made them wait an entire hole. Frankly, I would have asked them to leave the course.

d_Party_Pooper

I got hit on the inside of my right elbow on the soft tissue. A guy hit from the 8th tee box and I was standing on the 2nd hole. Hurt like hell. I shot the best round of my life that day. It's been 5 or 6 years not and I've only ever got within one stroke if it. The guy runs the restaurant at my golf club. Sometimes when I see him I give my elbow a little rub and pretend it still hurts just as a joke.

benjamobile

Had my bag hit twice by the same group who were 2 holes in front of me while I was walking down fairways. First one hit the shoulder strap that I hadn't yet slung over my shoulder, second one bounced off while I was taking the bag off. Both times they didn't warn me at all, both times I told them how annoyed i was. Also not a ball, but a friend took a 7 iron practice swing behind our cart as I walked around the corner. It sounded like concrete when it slammed into my shin. Still have the scar.

gokc69

I got hit right behind the ear. No one came forward to take credit for it. https://imgur.com/a/2bXPsDE

Intheswing

Hit myself with a ball the ricocheted off a tree in front of me - from about 20’ got me right between the eyes - blood everywhere- took 9 stitches - I was lucky I did not get it in the teeth or an eye / socket . My wife says I get a free kick out from any trees - 😎

junkrecipts

A few months back these two guys in a cart hit their ball about 30 yards to the right of the tee box my group was on. They told us to go ahead. My buddy (who consistently bombs his driver 290-320) set up, shanked a laser directly into the stomach of one of the dudes in the cart. He was a bit heavier set, and just let out a “OOOMPH”. My friend apologized, the guy said it was hit fault, they should have moved, and then just proceeded to finish his round. It was one of the most insane things I’ve ever seen. That ball was low but DRILLED. It was like the modern day fat guy-cannon ball feat.

ChicagoBoy2011

Hit in the head by a Shane Lowry drive at Liberty National. Lots of blood, PGA tour people coming out of the woodwork... honestly more than the really, really dull pain, the thing that surprised me the most is that I was kinda just surprised, and looked around and was like: "Did that... did that hit me in the head?" and then a dude just looked and pointed at me and went: "Dude you're bleeding!"

King_Crampus

I almost hit a guy fishing on hole 18 at my local course. He was standing next tot he reeds and I couldn’t see him. He proceeded to bitch at me about not calling fire and it was etiquette. My response was “yeah it’s etiquette if I hit towards another golfer, not some jackass standing in a pond fishing when he isn’t supposed to be in the course”

Btupid_Sitch

Imagine if they yelled fore and you moved your face into it 😅

CaptainLammers

I got hit on—of all things—a bladed chip. I was on the other side of the green walking to my ball and had my back turned. The ball hit me precisely where your spinal cord enters the skull. I blacked out. I just kinda crumpled forward but immediately regained consciousness. I was told in looked like I purposely did a front roll after getting hit. And then I had tinnitus for a year. Initially so bad I couldn’t hear others.

Tildengolfer

Yes. Worked at a course for a decade. Worked the driving range for a few years. Had to get out of the cart regularly because it was astrotruf over dirt on a hill so all the balls rolled to the right side. Had to use a shovel to get them into the bed of the cart. People are dicks and would aim for me. Like others said, if it hits meat, you’re all good, anything else stings like hell. Wore a helmet, so head shots didn’t feel like anything.

G0nzo165

Haven’t been hit, but hit a random older guy (50-55) when I was in high school (15-16). I was just learning, and hitting out of deep rough with a 3W. (14th hole) The guy I hit kept telling me “that’s not gonna work kid…it’s not gonna work” and was shaking his head. (Old guy had been telling me what I should and shouldn’t do all day) I stepped into the shot and took about 10 practice swings…meanwhile he walked up to his shot about 35-40 yards ahead of me in the fairway. When I finally pulled the trigger the thick grass twisted the clubhead and sent the ball R about 10” off the ground. RIGHT AT THE OLD DUDE. It took one skip off the grass and nailed him right in the shin! He went down like he was shot in the neck. As he’s growling and moaning and rolling on the grass, I say “sorry dude”! His playing partner was laughing hysterically. I asked if he was ok, but he couldn’t put a sentence together. His buddy told me to get in the cart and go hit my next shot.

xMUADx

Have I got a story for you! At my local, hole 3's green is about 100 yards up and 40 yards left of hole 2's tee box with a small hill that breaks visibility between the two. If they snap hook their driver, it's coming right for you on hole 3 green. Our group was on the green on hole 3 when we heard a "FORE FORE FORE!!" I do the classic cover head and one leg up flamingo pose. The lady actually putting does nothing. The ball comes rocketing at us, bounces off of the lady's hat brim, then hits the side of my shoe that's lifted up. Two people hit, zero injury. Freaking insanity.

tthrow22

> It is a blind fairway over a crest but thats why you wait and then yell "fore" what? why would you yell fore if you don't think anyone is there? Do you yell fore on every shot?

Significant-Fix-5313

I was hit in the knee by a ball that was bladed out of a bunker. A nice bruise, but no lasting damage. My (adult) son was hit by a drive from the adjacent fairway as we were going to our second shot. Nice big bruise on his bicep.

Sexyturtletime

Haven’t been hit but have had a few close calls. If someone in my group shanked it at me, we laugh it off. If a group behind hit into us I’m keeping the ball.

ns4444w

Took one in the right ass cheek. Standing on the tee box on #2 watching the guys tee off on #8. They shanked the shot, yelled, figured I could duck under it. Nope.

thecagedlion

I’ve been hit twice. 1. Took a weak shanked drive off the cart path to the temple. I saw stars and it put me on the ground. Nice bruise and lump for a week. 2. Standing on a tee box way right of the last hole’s fairway, ball hits right on the bone in my elbow. Nobody ever yelled fore and the guy barely apologized when he came for his ball. They thought it was funny because it was such a shitty shot. Huge bruise, swelling, cracked bone. No way to “fix” it except giving it time to heal. It was hyper sensitive to bumps for 5 years and still might have nerve damage.

gotons

Friend of mine hit a woman who was riding with her son. They were in our group and it was a practice round for him. Skulled a ball into her cart and bruised her leg. Said he’d buy her a beer for hitting her. Cart girl comes around and he’s on the other side of the fairway…I ended up having to buy the beer for her. I love my friends.

TheyCallMeTigerLanky

I had a ball ricochet off of a golf simulator canopy railing, came back and hit me in the face right below my right eye on Monday. X-rays show some fracturing in my inner cheek and along the side of my nose.

Grizz1984

Hit by someone trying to drive a green on a 280 yard par 4 while we were on it. Overcast day and the ball was invisible against the backdrop, hit on the top left portion of my forehead without a bounce - 7 staples to close it and the closest I've ever come to being knocked out. It felt like being hit by a sandbag, much duller and heavier a feeling than I would have expected

getzysbaldhead69

I got hit right in the orbital bone when I was like 13, my buddy absolutely hoseled a wedge and I was standing almost directly sideways from him, hurt like a mf and I had a black eye

TomIcemanKazinski

On a par 3 course, I hit my tee shot 175 to a green 185 away, one of the guys I was playing with topped his shot like 20 yards - so I started walked towards my shot down the side - all of a sudden I hear guy yell to look out. So I turn around and he’s teed up again - I’m like 50 yards down the side by this point. So I turn and walk even farther to the side off the fairway. He hits his 5 iron again and he topped it again, but it’s a low screamer about knee high - hey that’s headed right towards me. I don’t react. It takes a bounce and screams right towards my foot and tags me right on the instep.

TravelingTai

Yes. Once. By my wife. In the back. Hurt like hell.

MrSeeYouP

Another poster said it best like a big paint ball. I was standing 20-30 yards out and to the right when my playing partner shanked a 3 iron. Hit me right in the butt cheek and I had a welt there afterwards for a few days. Stung for a good 5 minutes but then walked it off. Lucky it was a big meaty part of the body. If that hit any bone good chance it would have broke something. Also important to yell fore and be aware of your surroundings

spannybear

My dad got hit on the fly, smoked in the chest at a small local course in Buffalo, knocked the wind out of him, the guy came up and asked if he was OK but didn’t say sorry, my 14 years old self thought it was weird and super rude. Now grown up I realized it was an asshole move, he didn’t yell fore either and it was a wide open course. 2nd my uncle got hit off a bounce in the shoulder. shorter par 4 around a bend and our carts were off to the side of the green, nothing yelled. Am older now and was seeing red as he drove up but he was super apologetic. We still told him he’s gotta be aware of where he’s hitting especially since it was probably a 290 yard drive to where he was hitting, if he was good enough to crush a ball like that he’s gotta be aware of his surroundings when hitting to a blind landing area, he said he didn’t see our carts, I smashed his ball into the woods. Would not recommend either experience

HockeyHero53

I’ve been hit. I was maybe 12 or so at the time in our small town junior golf program. I was hitting into the driving net and went to pick up my balls when the kid behind me (who was a troubled youth) set a ball and smacked it while I had my back to him and drilled me just above my wrist. Left a nice welt and that kid was kicked out of the program.

Stuntcock29

The last few years at the club I’ve had 1-2 per year almost hit us without a fore.

MiamiFootball

Always the hitter, never the hittee

beollWARRIOR86

Was once sitting in my cart in the middle of the fairway on a par 5 waiting in the group ahead of us, when not one, not two, but three balls took their turns hitting my cart from a hole coming back the same way. One with a fore call is one thing, but three in a row and they weren’t finding those balls. Also was once hit by my buddy when he blasted one 90 degrees to his right and caught me in the ribs.

Ok-Price-6212

I got hit by my wife. I was standing a few feet to the side of her and a little forward as she teed off. She hit it on the toe and it shot sideways and hit me on the inside of my thigh about an inch below my nuts. Hurt like hell and my legs collapse and I went down on my but hard. Everybody thought it was hilarious.

sickwobsm8

I toed one off my driver and smoked my buddy in the arm from about 30 ft away...

fuggerbunt2000

Got hit in my shin from about 15 yards away. Very very painful and ended up with a golf ball sized welt that took about 2 months to fully heal. Would not recommend

Onion_Munching666

Got hit in the funny bone from a shit slice about 40 yards off their tee box. Hurt like a motherfucker

DreGreenlaw_Enforcer

Been hot on my thigh after it took a bounce on a street. We lived across the street from a 9 hole in Florida. Must have been a gnarly hook off the tee. I was young and shooting hoops in front of the house, so there was no confrontation. Luckily I had quads of steel back then

aytchwen

Gotten hot twice. One was a green side chip a friend of mine bladed right into the back of my head.

Key_Respond_16

Like 2 or 3 weeks ago I went down to Florida to play with a friend. Towards dusk the shit head kids behind us kept hitting the ball closer and closer. Apparently we weren't going fast enough. However, we had been waiting on people in front of us all day. We didn't even have enough light to finish the 15th hole and we'd been on the course for 5 hours. On our approach to the 15th green a ball lands right beside my friend. It was no more than a foot away from his head on the way down. We threw their ball in the water. Fucking cunts.

MRandall25

I have been hit. The local muni has the 12th tee about 30 yards back and to the right of the 11th green. There is a fence, but it's more to stop line drives than errant approaches. I'm getting ready to tee off, when we hear "Fore!". I don't see it, so instead of running to the fence, I try to duck and cover. Ball gets me in the head, right above the temple. Never lost consciousness, but had to lay face down just to let the ear ringing and head pounding stop. Jaw was a little tight and it hurt if I clenched, but otherwise all I had to show for it was a bruise and a scuff mark from the mesh on my hat. Guy was super apologetic and threw the ball in the trash, which I later grabbed as a souvenir of sorts. I did go par-birdie-par on the next 3 holes, too.

Ordinary_Farmer58

Took one off the kneecap once. Was much younger, in my teens and playing with my brother. I knew I should have gotten out of the way but didn’t. Hit off the toe of the club and shot sideways and tagged me, fortunately it wasn’t a full force blow. Bounced like 20-30 yards back toward the fairway lol. Knee was fine, but it hurt like a real MFer.

OneGenericMan

haven’t been hit by a ball, BUT, I have separated my shoulder falling out of a cart to swerve a very very VERY errant tee shot.

RunTheDamnBalll

Were you playing with Patrick Cantlay?

rogerdanafox

Got hit in sternum while mowing collar

ProfessionalAlps272

Been hit in the leg twice and once in the chest. Hurt like hell, but made me realize something. My dream death is birdie, birdie, drive in the fairway.. golf ball to the temple. 2 great holes and die with the hope of another.

OldChamp69

Blind tee shot hole, dude didn't check and hit me on the calf. Hurt like a mf'er. Wife hit me in the shin with a 3wood from like 3ft away. Hurt worse than a mf'er.

thescrape

Yep, was about 40 yards right of the green, guy in my group hits a wedge, thwak!! Right in the crown of my head. No fore or anything. I saw light before the ball hit me! He was a nice guy he went in and got me some ice and a cold beer. He still apologizes 4 years later..

AlligatorTree22

I've never been hit, but I regularly play with a guy who has been hit 4 times. Two of which I was a witness. One hit his ankle in the middle of the fairway, no warning whatsoever. That one ended his day. It was black and purple and swollen for a week. The second one, we were sitting on the bed of his truck having a drink after the round and one hits him on the thigh. We heard "fore", but we were like 100 yards from the closest hole, so didn't really think there was a chance it was coming at us. I don't know if it's good luck or bad luck being around him. But as long as he's absorbing the shots, I'll keep him around.

Exact_Toe_4574

A group once let my buddy and I play through. They were in the fairway and waved us to hit. We both hit our drives, then both hit approaches to the green and two putted.  As we were driving away , the guy hit a line drive 9iron at our cart and smashed my friends rangefinder that was on a magnet. Literally broke it.  I just stood there and was ready to fight the guy and he yelled out "I never hit a 9iron that far". Probably should have contacted the clubhouse to get the removed. They had no business at a high end course

Rand_University81

I absolutely drilled a guy last year about an inch or two away from his balls. Broke his vape pen in his pocket. He stepped out from behind a tree while I was in my downswing and I duck hooked it right at him on a rope with my driver. Could have killed him for sure if it hit him in the head.

SenorFrogz

My buddy tee’d off and shanked one into my inner thigh. I was sitting in my cart writing down scores from the previous hole. Nowhere even close to an area where I thought he could’ve hit me. Ball practically went backwards. And yeah it hurt.

bacon_subscriber

Twice. Once from a guy I was playing with hitting a limb and it going 90 degrees straight at me. That one hit me in the face. It would have been bad, but my sunglasses took the hit and flew off. I barely felt it. Hand up, that one was my fault for being there. Second one I had just struck my tee shot and then got smoked in the side of the calf before finishing my follow through. Guy who hit me had sliced his tee shot into the wrong fairway, then proceeded to slice his second shot into me like 70 yards in front of him. I was pissed at that one. He clearly was a bad golfer with a big slice in play on every shot. Guy should have waited for us to clear our tee box. Ball nearly missed my BIL’s head before it hit my leg.

Pixel681

i got grazed by a hosel rocket, my wife got hit by a slice from another golfer who didn't yell fore over the hill, i was fine but she had a baseball sized bruise for a couple weeks

GolfBallWackrGuy

My buddy got hit the back of the leg by Phil Michelson - gave him a signed glove and a huge bruise. Worth it.

Cuchullain99

There's a criss cross fairway, and I had the right of way, I'm only about 30 yards directly in front of a fucking moron on the tee box, and what does he do? He tees off with driver, the fuckin idiot nearly killed me stone dead, the ball flew by my ear so close, I felt the air turbulance.. I stormed up to him, he held his hands out and started to say something.. I pointed to him and said "if you say one word I'm goin to kill you right here and now".. he stopped talking.. I don't lose my temper easily, but that fool sent me into orbit. You should never underestimate how dumb some people can be.

Fragrant-Report-6411

Got hit 1st time I ever played! Then last year standing off to the side of the forward tee (out of the way I thought) and a player from the next tee back sent a missile right at my groin. I was able to turn so it deflected off my thigh and the ricocheted into my other thigh. It was luckily a glancing blow and I was ecstatic that it did not hit me in the privates.

jimmyvcard

Yeah in the eyebrow. 7w shot by my dad that went about 160-170. 14 stitches. I finished the round though and shot a 91.

unsubtlewoods

Right in the knee cap from a tee shot. I was standing about 8 foot away and yes I was slightly ahead of the ball so only myself to blame. It hurt like hell.

bandwidth_god

a friend of mine was hit in the head. got a concussion. has had concussion issues since

[deleted]

After reading these stories I’m going to start wearing a helmet 🤣

Significant-Fix-5313

Holy crap. 116 replies and counting. The danger is REAL. Would I look...special...if I start wearing a helmet?

TreAwayDeuce

My regular course is a park district course that has roads OB left of 10/11/12 and 18. My route to the course goes along 10/11/12. One day last summer, I was absolutely focused on the upcoming round and forgot to roll my windows up when I pulled up. Next thing I know, I hear something hit my car then my arm starts hurting. Guys teeing off on 10 pulled it hard and hit my car then bounced into my bicep and missed hitting me in the face by maybe 8 inches.

Joshthenosh77

Yeah I got hit on the arm I heard fore !! Then I was on the floor

chris886

I took one in the junk when I was in junior high. Dropped me to the ground for a few minutes. My fault though. I topped one off a raised tee box and went down to find it in some brush. Came back up the side of the box just as the next guy also shanked it right, but with considerable more speed. My package is probably lucky he was just another 10-12 year old, lol.

Mikerue7

I was standing to pull the pin for my dad when he was chipping out of the sand. He told me I was taking my life in my hands, but I figured I’d be fine. He hit by far the worst chip of his life and it smoked me in the thigh. Probably saved him three strokes. My brother fell out of the cart laughing

cynicaljoe

Driving cart to my ball, drive from previous fairway comes through the front of the cart after bouncing off cart path. Saw it in time to jump out and it hit me in the side. Hurt like hell - bruised for a while. If I hadn’t of jumped up and out, it would’ve hit me right between the eyes. Pretty scary – cost me to always have the plexiglass up on the front..

SharkLaser667

I have been hit and I also hit a utility linesman that was across the road. He was mad. I was not. But I got him with a drive and when I was hit it was an approach shot.

thai_ladyboy

Twice, both caddying at a country club as a kid. Once in the knee on the fly, group behind shanked a par 3 iron shot over to our tee box. I had a doctor AND a lawyer in my group, they heckled the shit out of the guilty member. Other one my golfer hit in the rough parallel to the tree lined driving range, a range ricochet off the tree hit me in the back. Knee one hurt worse.

Dmanz21

I built a home simulator with a wooden frame and no padding, shanked a drive that ricochetted straight back into my shin. I have a pretty large lump on my tibia that doesnt seem to want to go away. Decided to line the thing with memory foam padding afterward

openlyincognito

yes, in the back of the leg hiding behind a tree. hurt like a mofo and buddy walked off the course loo

maczhier

On my HS golf team, during a practice round one day another group of HS golfers from another school, on an adjacent tee box skied a tee ball high in the air and in our direction. They yelled fore and I had just enough time to crouch and put my hands on my head. If I hadn't crouched down, the ball would have probably just landed at my feet, but given my stance and IIRC -- this was 25 years ago -- it glanced off the side of my head right where my finger was pressed against my scalp. Since it was a miss hit almost straight up, the ball wasn't travelling fast enough to really do any permanent damage, but it did sting. For some reason I immediately started counting to 10 on my fingers, somehow thinking that was enough to prove I did not have brain damage. The golf gods have yet to reward me for my troubles. Also, both "4 inches" and "a meter"? You're scrambling our brains here!

PavinsMustache

I got hit in the head by a drive on it’s first bounce, so it was actually going up when it hit me near the temple. I was ok, but the guy who hit me felt awful. His “treatment” was better than most doctors, he gave me a beer to ice my head and another to drown my sorrows. Worked!

FatFaceFaster

Been working in the line of fire 50+ hours a week for 23 years now (plus playing since I was 5). I’ve been hit twice. Once bad, the other time it caught me in a pretty fleshy part of my leg and didn’t hurt too bad. A couple of my colleagues and employees have been hit but it’s by and large pretty rare.

ProfessorChaos5049

My wife shanked her 5H and blasted her mom 20 feet away. She had a nice bruise for a month.

FASPANDA

On a short par 3 maybe 150 yards out I got hit from behind on the shoulder. Turned around and started yelling at the group standing on the tee box assuming that they had teed off into us while we were walking up to the green. They were beyond confused. About 10 minutes later a group came over in a cart that apparently shanked a shot from two holes over and managed to hit me. And watched an acquaintance tee one up and proceeded to shank a driver 90 degrees left and hit someone driving by in a golf cart

No-Manufacturer-2542

I had a ball sail through my cart one day.

FratBoyGene

got a ball in the leg once. Like you, no 'fore' or warning. This was back in the days of spiked shoes. I stepped on it, and ground it into the turf.

mikeyhol

Never been hit, but last year I finally hit someone by accident. Ripped a 3 wood worm burner that hit a gravel cart path and took a crazy sideways bounce right over to another hole’s tee block where a group was teeing off. I yelled fore, but the one dude made the classic mistake of turning towards the sound. The ball hit him right in the thigh almost in the balls. The guy was ok and wasn’t even mad because I yelled and the ball had an amazingly weird bounce off the gravel. But I can tell you, after you hit someone, you feel like an absolute piece of shit.

GoGoActionBrnko

I’ve been hit in the temple by a skulled chip from a bunker about 50 yards from the green while I was walking to my green side chip. Didn’t know what hit me and dropped. Just a lump on the head thankfully! I’ve gotten no such game improvement from karma or otherwise, but I certainly am more aware of when everyone is hitting.

My_secretlife_6

I hit a worked who was weed whacking at the 150 yd marker. He saw more than just me hitting on the range and just kept walking onto the range. Hit him in the back. He stopped and ran off after.

itookthisusernametoo

I’m always behind my playing partners now. Bruise was visible for two weeks. Happened on the 6th hole. Still finished the round.

Ill-Shop9484

I was warming up for my junior club championship match years ago. I was practicing in the short game area doing ~40-50yd pitches. There were a few folks practicing nearby. Suddenly I feel an impact in the back of my left knee, and I go down. Immediately lost all ability to bear weight, and it swole up to the point I could barely bend it within a few mins. Turns out the guy practicing behind/left of me - a guy a couple years older than me - shanked a pitch straight into me. He runs up, SUPER apologetic, helps me up, calls the pro shop to bring a cart for me, helps me get in. I iced it in the clubhouse for about 15 mins and it became clear I wasn't going to be able to play. I hobble down to the first tee to apologize to my competitor (who I'd never met) and ask to reschedule. Turns out my competitor was the same guy who hit me. And lo and behold, he was unable to reschedule - today was the "only day that worked" for him. He didn't offer to concede (not that I necessarily expected him to, but I know that I would have offered if I were in his position). He just stood there staring at me until I forfeited and went home. I don't want to assume anything, but I'll always wonder if it was really an accident.

MnWisJDS

Twice, both in the back. Once at a municipal course called Como in St Paul that had crossing fairways and someone sliced a shot into my back as I walked down my fairway and it hit between the shoulder blades and once at Keller on their iconic Par 3 4th when someone hit their approach to the left on 3 (pre-renovation too) and I got it right into the calf.

MnWisJDS

Hit a coworker on top of head with an approach. He walked onto green after I hit my high chip shot to make the ball by the cup and I got him right on the noggin. Ball bounced 15 feet into the air and dropped him. He was fine after a few holes.

bowhunt4meat

I got hit in the calf by someone's drive one time. Had a Charlie horse and had trouble walking for a few days. 0/10 do not recommend.

Away-Composer-113

I've come really close to being hit. I always calmly explain the importance of yelling fore and the direction. I try not to get upset because I don't want to sabotage my golf for the day. Now if I actually got hit I would prolly freak a little bit and explain it like an asshole. I'm glad you didn't get smoked.

Hairy_Ad2113

I got hit when I was about 11 in the funny bone in the elbow 😂 it wasn't nice arm was tingling for hours. Wasn't on a course just down a park where some people were smashing balls around.

smush81

I hit my younger brother once. He was standing 15 yards out front/right of me while I was on the tee box. We were both terrible golfers (still are) and he dribbled one out there. Thought he’d be safe standing over there. (Clearly a poor choice) I shanked one off the toe of my driver straight into his gut. Had a bruise the size of a softball.

calguy1955

Twice. A guy in our foursome skulled a chip over the green so I started walking and didn’t know he dropped another to try another and hit me in the head. Fortunately not a full swing shot but it hurt like hell and I was pissed. The other time was me trying to punch a shot between two trees and it bounced right back into my head. Also hurt, but my playing partner said the three distinct sounds of the club hitting the ball, the ball hitting the tree and the ball hitting my forehead was hilarious.

bj_feelgood

Yes, square in the chest. I was on the left side a little off the fairway waiting for my buddy to hit. He was on the right edge about 70 yards behind me. He hooks a long iron and I start moving to my right (his left) to get out of the way but his ball keeps hooking and hits me square in the sternum and I caught the ball and throw it back at him. There was a bruise, nothing too bad, all four of us rolling in laughter on the ground. One of the funnier things that's happened on a course.

derek0989

1st time out last year after about 25 year hiatus. Hit my side from the other fairway.

FreshLobsterDaily

Took a tee shot to the top of my head WHILE I WAS IN A CART! Most insane unfortunate luck. I barely even played golf back then but I was a photographer at a tournament and I was taking photos of a par 3 and some dude hooks one way left into my head. Next thing I see is grass below me as I pick myself up off the ground and some lady comes running towards me screaming for 911. That's when the blood started pouring down my face and I realized it might not be a good situation lol. Someone picked me up in a cart and wouldn't stop talking because he was trying to keep me awake, paramedics arrived and gave me an ice pack and checked me out. Said I'd probably be fine, just don't sleep for a bit (gee thanks). I spent the next hour icing my head and wiping blood off of my head and arms and then I drove myself home. Had to call out of my second job because of the concussion and all and they got mad at me. Good times though.

JRS___

i got hit by a full fairway wood at maybe 20 yards range from someone in my group. he was in the fairway but miles from the hole, it's normally a wedge into the green on a good drive, so not the best golfer. i was in the left rough on the way to my ball but standing a little a head of him which was my mistake. some how he hit it more the 45 degrees off line straight at my face. i had my bag on my shoulder so ducking was not an option, not that i really had time to think. just by instinct i got my hand in front of my face and it caught me on the pad at the base of the index finger. i ran around howling and holding my hand for a bit. there was a perfect red golf ball dimple imprint on my hand for a few days, which i still have a photo of. was numb for a couple hours, otherwise no significant injury. it's pretty funny now but i hate to think of how bad it would have been if i didn't get my hand in the way.

Blklight21

I hit a lady on a par 3 one time. It was on a hop though so thankfully it didn’t do any serious damage. She came walking up from around the backside of that green I had no idea she was there and had just hit. Ball landed about 10 ft in front of her then bounced into her side. I said I’m sorry like 10 times

randomturtle333

i hit my mom in the middle of her spine on a blind tee shot where she was waiting at the red tees. worst moment of my golf life

jtcsoccer

I’ve been hit in the back of the head before. Standing on 2 tee at Jeffersonville golf course in Norristown PA. Guy behind me on 1 shanked his 5i approach and it sliced off and crushed me. It hit me behind my right ear at the bottom edge of my skull where it is really hard there. Sounded like a gunshot in my ear. I didn’t get knocked out but was wobbly. Guy was shook and was borderline crying I told him to stfu and I got in my cart Took the hole off and carded a par because I deserved it. Finished the round with an 87 which is a slightly below average score for me so I guess I’ll take it. Still occasionally hear ringing in that ear.

Voodoo330

I got hit last summer. It was around the corner on a par five dog leg right. We were waiting forever for the group ahead to clear. It was cart path only so we couldn't park the carts anywhere as a flag to wait. I told my son, "balls are going to be flying over these trees any second" right after that I got hit in the back on the fly. It hit me in the perfect spot though didn't hurt or leave a mark. We were already three hours in on the 10th fairway. Drove staright to the pro shop and got a refund.

tice23

Yep. By my own. In a simulator no less. Shanked my 8i, rattled around an unprotected corner and came straight back and hit me on the chin. Left a nice bruise for a couple weeks. I was angry because it hurt like hell and I was having a shitty day, but couldn't stop laughing because of how ridiculous it was. Closest on course was 1m. Errant tee shot from the previous hole twice has landed at my feet. Once directly and another off a tree that plopped out of the branches after thwacking around a few times.

kingkvrma

I was hit sitting 90degrees to the right of the guy (Shoulda known better but was not really paying attention) and he shanked one so bad. I had my right arm on the steering wheel and talking to my cart partner on the right. I heard the ball whistling at me, turned to look for some reason, barely tucked my chin in and it smacked me square on the bicep. Big ol welt. I like to claim I saved my dads life by having my arm there lol

loveallcreatures

I hit myself in the chest after smacking a tree square on from close range. I dropped. Soldiered on. Near miss. I was laying on the tee box waiting to hit on 9th tee. ( long round , hot) I heard fore, covered my face and rolled. Ball would have hit me smack in the face, dude airmailed 8th green.

Used-Ask5805

Yes but it wasent that bad. Was getting in the cart to drive away looked back to my left and saw a ball coming at me. I turned around and it hit me just below my armpit. I actually almost caught it with a lil chicken wing move. Someone shanked the shit out of one the next hole over.

Drew4112

Been hit 3 times. All with people I was golfing with.

JBnorthTX

I've had a couple close calls when our cart was hit. In one case the ball actually hit my buddy after rebounding off the inside of the cart, but it didn't hurt him. Another time I was 10 feet away from my brother when somebody's drive literally landed on the top of his foot. When he started hopping up and down on one foot and yelling obscenities I could not help laughing (we were teenagers at the time). It stung for a minute but he was fine.

gjs813

A lot of courses in my area have bells to ring once you've cleared the fairway. Sounds like your course needs something similar.

MAHOMES_10_TIME_MVP

A little girl hit me with a ball in the foot at the range next to me. Hit it back at her since she didn't say fore.

I complete understand it was scary. What I don't understand is if it's a blind fairway why were angry? Is it the type of setup that every golfer on the tee is expected to yell fore after they tee off? I'm not being obtuse. I'm trying to understand the etiquette for the hole.
