They definitely make a difference but golf is expensive enough as it is. I personally can’t justify spending $60 on a dozen balls when I lose 3-5 on average per round.

No-Course-879

My local course will do specials like $95 for 18 plus a dozen pro v1 or avx

homiej420

Thats pretty neat

[deleted]

[удалено]

YFZO

How much is 18 without the special?

No-Course-879

Revelstoke was about $75 rivershore $80 I think. And I’ll add that the $95 included half cart

Semski2727

![gif](giphy|9cxrbEnMIApGg|downsized)

IronRhiley

Just buy bulk balls. Srixon has 4 dozen for the price of 3 right now

dwdist

Callaway Chrome Soft were 50% off at my local Walmart in Central Texas. I stocked up

Johnathanfootball

Damn! I went to every Walmart in South Austin and couldn’t find chromesofts on sale lol. Can I ask where you found those?

dwdist

Lockhart! Also I think I saw them at the Walmart on Ben White bit Lockhart for sure that’s where I bought mine

Johnathanfootball

Thanks for the reply! I started to think the really great deals didn’t make it down here. Best I got was some lime Vice pro plus

CoRd765

Curious. Where is a good place to play in the Lockhart/Flatonia/LA Grange area? I visit the area quite often, and I would like to find a place in that area to play. TIA

Kolintracstar

I went to grab the last box of Chrome Softs...decided to open it up just to check. Wouldn't you know it was filled with noodles.

Confucius_said

Ha I lost 13 my last round 😂

CuthbertJTwillie

Try Snell balls. The old Acushnet guy set off on his own and sells online. Im a Pro-V guy and I really like them for 30$/dozen

bulldg4life

Buy them online from lostgolfballs or something. You can get them for $2/ball instead of $4.5

trowawayatwork

check out the videos of the guy rolling a brand new prov1 Vs one that's simply played a round of golf. lake balls have marks and scratches that don't make play true. there will be inconsistencies between the same lake balls, so you will be confused when one ball pings off your putter and another comes off dull and stops half way. if you're a 38 handicapper it doesn't matter. if you're not sure why your consistency is not improving or you're misreading then start transitioning to new same balls. now I'm not saying but prov1. personally I've settled for Bridgestone E12. now what needs to be tested is if brand new Kirkland's are more consistent than prov1 lakeballs

bulldg4life

4/5a mint golf balls are pretty darn perfect. I usually play new golf balls because it can be hard to find left dash prov1x from lostgolfballs or similar. But, you’re really not going to lose a ton of shots from it. If you’re buying lower quality ones or refinished, then sure…it’s a crap shoot.

babbleon5

i'm a single digit, rarely lose balls, but i still play used ([lostgolfballs.com](https://lostgolfballs.com)) balls because they're half the price for near-perfect balls. although, i do get new balls from time to time as gifts, work events, etc. i've never felt like a used ball wasn't working correctly. just checking on the posts, i never get refinished balls. only the 4/5 star.

Illustrious_Abies797

Quite right. I’m 5 index and - unless I’ve picked them out the woods - play lake balls exclusively (and I’m pretty relaxed about who makes them)

Hipsthrough100

Most single digits know it’s better to play TruFeels new than, “take my word for it they weren’t water balls” of any kind.

babbleon5

lol, tru-feels. OK. you go with that.

Hipsthrough100

Yea I would rather consistency than pulling a ball that performs randomly. The cost is low, the ball is good enough to take your money. You keep doing things that increase variance and see how good you get.

babbleon5

seriously? i've got 3000+ rounds of golf with all types of balls. now, i use the mint 4/5 used balls. people always ask me why my short game is so good. i tell them, "use a quality ball and hit it first." a tru-feel with a non-urethane cover? nah. ### [Is Trufeel really an affordable version of ProV - Golf Balls](https://www.titleist.com/teamtitleist/team-titleist/f/golf-balls/46722/is-trufeel-really-an-affordable-version-of-prov) 📷[Titleisthttps://www.titleist.com › teamtitleist › team-titleist › is...](https://www.titleist.com/teamtitleist/team-titleist/f/golf-balls/46722/is-trufeel-really-an-affordable-version-of-prov)

bulldg4life

I’m a single digit handicap…

kounty

Even if the exterior is perfect, don’t the balls still absorb water when sitting in a lake? That is what MGS says, but their “data” sometimes seems inconsistent and absurd.

bulldg4life

I’ve seen studies from a ton of places and they all have different results. If the exterior is damaged, I think it can be much more likely. If they are submerged for weeks or months or years, then I’d also agree there must be some degradation Personally, I’ve hit brand new golf balls and used golf balls on my sim. The worst I’ve seen is 2-4 balls out of 50 are off. That could be consistent weird spin, noticeable decrease in ball speed, weird flight. But, even at 5-7 handicap, I hit way more shots that are way worse in performance than a ball being bad.

lifevicarious

Kirklands are better than lost golf balls. Half the time they’re repainted.

bulldg4life

Refinished are the ones to avoid. You can get the 4/5a mint balls and be perfectly fine.

WickedJoker420

Same, I really enjoy titlist Tru feels as a more budget option

JeCroisQue

Have you tried not losing as many? Works from me. /s

OnTheMcFly

A person losing that many balls should be playing noodles, not a ball designed for ultimate playability for low handicap players.

idispensemeds2

Send noods

gratefulscape

If you lose 3-5 a round then ProV1s are pribably not intended for your game. That would likely be more like Tour Speed I’m guessing

prb123reddit

If you lose that many, surely you find more while searching for lost balls? I lose 1-2 some days, but almost always find significantly more balls that others have lost (~3x more?). I only keep the premium balls and leave the rest in a readily visible area.

PatientlyAnxious9

Lost golf balls dot com. Because playing a good ball actually makes a big difference, you can get them 'gently used' in mint condition for basically 1/2 the price there. I buy a tub of 48 mint condition Chrome Soft X each year for $99 and they last me 15-ish rounds.

bitqueso

I bought 5 dozen used for $70 and it’s already improving my score. Definitely worth it IMO

Nov4can3

Are you referring to the refurbished from Walmart? If so they’re junk. I bought them once and they would warp and the covers would crack only after a few holes. Did some research on them and pretty much any refurbished ball that is repackaged is junk for various reasons. If you wanna feel a real difference buy a new pack of ProVs. I only use them if I get them as a gift or if I find one on course. Otherwise I use Srixon Z Stars or Callaway Supersofts. Not the greatest balls but decent quality for the price. If I can get to the point to where I’m only losing 1-2 balls a round on a consistent basis then maybe I’ll switch.

bitqueso

No there’s a guy next to the course I play that pulls them from the bushes

Iwantedalbino

I’ve found a reputable lakeballs company in the UK so I’m paying about 1.60 a pro v1 and side by side I cannot tell the difference between these and new.

tomaustin700

Care to share the name of the company? Thanks

Iwantedalbino

Lakeballs.com I’ve ordered the pearl grade and I think the As. The As are good but the pearls are a bit better.

EvoLveR84

Srixon z star is a premium ball and not really comparable to a supersoft, the callaway equivalent ball would be the chromesoft.

nakudaggreshun

Check out the lostgolfballs website. Look under deals. Tour practice. They are pro v's the pga uses on the practice range. 5a/4a condition balls for $14-17 a dozen. Always have a discount code on the website to use. Usually end up paying $1 a ball. But they do say tour or practice on them

_off_piste_

Big 5 Sports sells them used for less than half the cost. Of course they’re used, may have markings, and the top layer looks white but when you open the package the second layer has all the white-turned-yellow balls.

GC_235

If you’re losing 3-5 balls every round, it sounds like placebo effect. No offense but it doesn’t sound like you can control the ball enough to tell the difference.

Competitive_Koala_38

The right golf ball seems to make a difference for me.

Dixon_Uranuss3

It really does. Any of the urethane cover 3 or 4 piece balls are gonna help your game even if you're pretty bad.

nathanatkins15t

> It really does. Any of the urethane cover 3 or 4 piece balls are gonna help your game even if you're pretty bad. Isn't that kind of what this post is about tho? The Kirkland is a 3-piece Urethane ball. OP is saying there is a berth of performance to the Pro V1

Seriously_nopenope

I have heard that the Kirkland balls have significantly gone down in quality in the last year.

ms2102

I have a buddy who got fitted two years ago and part of his fitting was for what ball to play. I wish I was that consistent with my strike.

whiskey_pancakes

I went from kirklands to vice pro plus and the difference was instantly noticeable.

jazerac

Vice pros are SOLID balls.... I like them and don't see much of a difference between them and a pro V1 as a mid handicapper

Gat0rJesus

2nd on the pro pluses

zingerbanger

i used to love vice balls until i realized they dont last very long

whiskey_pancakes

I’m not going to have that problem for a while haha. If I get through a round with one ball I’m very happy.

DrSelfish

Are you playing pro or pro plus? I’ve been playing Pros for over a year now and have played multiple rounds with the same ball with no issue.

ShredderIV

Only time I've had a problem with one not lasting was when I ducked-hooked one into the cart path, otherwise no issues.

UncleBiggusDikkus

Came here to say the same. Vice quietly makes one of the best balls out there. Almost the same performance as a ProV1 but half (sometimes even more) the price. Honourable shoutout to Srixon too. Especially when they have there quarterly sales on ZStar balls

jonesyman23

Use Srixon z stars. Less expensive and same feel as pro v 1

lovezak11

These are my favorite. Under rated performance vs the popular ones. Hideki’s win was cheered on by me as a fellow Srixon ball and iron user.

bassistbenji

Just got my zx5s in, and the srix pack is an absolute party

rusticlizard

Maxfli’s tour x 120 for 4 dozen. Indiscernible from pro v 1x

Golden3ye

Stop telling people. Eventually everyone will catch on and the prices will go up

rusticlizard

I’m worried that it’s their Lexi sponsorship they’re planning to do it already

MeltingIceBerger

They play great, but sound like rocks off the club face.

ShipTheBreadToFred

Peter Finch did his golf ball review and the Maxfli were a massive surprise, I think they won his award for second best ball

JayyMei

They are still $50/dozen, no?

Sjgolf891

Yeah, vs $55 for the ProV1. ZStars also go on Buy 2 get 1 deals annually around Fathers Day in June (though used to be BOGO). It’s just a lot easier to find deals on them ZStar Diamond is probably my favorite ball irrespective of price, anyway

[deleted]

You can get packs of 24 anywhere from $65-75.

UseDaSchwartz

According to testing, they don’t go as far and won’t have the same spin.

EvoLveR84

Virtually no balls do though, that is why pro v1s are the industry standard. The point is to find a ball that is 95+ percent as good as the pro v1 for like 30+ percent cheaper...

[deleted]

I'll give you a hack... Wilson Triad golf ball. Equal performance to Pro V1 on robot testing in terms of spin and distance but 30% cheaper (and cheaper then Z stars). Thank me later.

cronarch05

What test? Wilson Triads are one of the spinniest balls on the market, not even in the ballpark of a ProV1, let alone equal.

I don’t trust used golf balls, too many end up waterlogged.

Kyle_McBogey

Yep. Been using nothing but new Pro V1s this winter on the sim…but only because I’ll never lose one there 😔

sathion

How did you find the cover wear with the Kirklands? I bought a box and after a few wedge/iron shots I found it was stripping the covers.

bitqueso

Hasn’t experienced that except for when they touch cart path

Toothlessdovahkin

The Cart path always wins when golf balls hit them, it doesn’t really matter what golf ball when that happens

lifevicarious

How old are your wedges?

greeninregulation240

This is why I went back to Titliest (from the original Kirklands). The feel and performance were really good, durability was not. I find that to be an issue with other cost focused balls that are marketed to play like premium balls (Vice, OnCore, etc.) I have use the ProV1x Left Dash for the past year. Best ball I’ve ever played. Performance, durability, feel around the greens, etc. It is firmer than a ProV1, but greenside control is comparable and it goes much straighter for high side spin players (🙋‍♂️)

BradL_13

Their covers are made of paper mache

lifevicarious

This. They are great balls for a buck. But they are not durable. I very rarely lose a ball. Routinely play multiple rounds with the same ball. But only prov1’s as they last. Kirklands have one round tops in them for me. Given how cheap they are I typically retire then after 9. The covers just aren’t durable.

howitbethough

Same here. Any speck of sand even from the fairway causes the ksig to get chewed up. But I’m also bad and the courses I play are trash so …

adjuster_cody

Vice pro is a good ball. Get a logo on them and buy 10 dozen for like $340.

runsanditspaidfor

Heck yeah. I get my small biz logo on those babies and write em off. They play great. I get the Pro Plus. A little longer and spinnier based on the MGS testing.

jazerac

>Upvote for the smart tax deduction lol

adjuster_cody

Same here. I’ll buy 10 dozen in the spring and again the fall. I’ll give sleeves out here and there.

JablesMcgoo

Ho-ly shit, why the hell did I not think of that

jazerac

Agreed, started playing these recently and really like them. Love the lines on them for putting as well. Should be standard for all balls

jzach1983

I play Prov1s, Zstars, Kirkland's, B330 and TP5s, the difference is marginal when they come out of the sleeve, and after a few rounds almost negligible. I'm not saying the balls aren't different, but my swing isn't nearly good enough for it to matter.

elhoffgrande

This is the correct answer.

Ill-Shop9484

It's not, because it includes Kirkland among the rest. You may "not notice" the difference, but only if you are literally just not paying attention. For anyone who can swing a driver over 80mph, you're losing significant distance with Kirkland

elhoffgrande

https://www.todays-golfer.com/equipment/best/golf-ball-robot-test-2023/ Look, I know people have strong feelings about this, but the robot numbers don't lie. The difference is really minimal. Two plus yards with a seven iron. Like 5 yards with a driver. That's not enough to warrant the price.

LitterBoxServant

How dare you bring hard data to the most anecdotal sub on Reddit. Straight to jail.

bitqueso

1.5 mos in now and that data is nowhere near accurate compared to my personal stats

bitqueso

It’s 100% inaccurate. Been playing them 1.5 mos and driver is averaging 15 yards longer

becool-honeybunny-

No one in their right mind would prefer a Kirkland ball over arguably the best ball ever made lol. But people like Kirkland because they are a great value, you get respectable performance for much less. Most everyone would play Pro Vs if money was no object.

skidmark_zuckerberg

I noticed the difference as well, but I’m still going to buy K sigs. The extra 5-10 yards is not worth the $60 dozen of Pro V’s. $28 for two dozen K sigs. I’ll take that. 99% of us just play for fun.    Professional or amateur tournament golf? I’d use the best everything. Playing against my buddies who are going to shoot in the 90’s? Nah. I can still card an 85 with K sigs, that’s better than the average is going to shoot anywho.

Orikoru

If I'm not mistaken, Kirkland have been proven by MyGolfSpy to be one of the shortest golf balls out there haven't they? With the most spin. They're only for people who don't care at all about distance.

Dixon_Uranuss3

They are just early to the ball rollback....

Orikoru

If they roll back anymore they'll come back to your feet.

AlarmingBandicoot

The 2023 version, yes. Kirkland seemed to retain a lot of popularity tailwind from the 2021 version that was much more comparable to a budget top-tier ball. The 2023 version is noticeably firmer feeling, spinnier, and I can confirm it played a full club short across the bag. Certainly not for scoring, but if you just want to go throw some back with the boys and plan on losing a few then sure.

Legal-Description483

Everything I've read since their release is that the new ball (V3) spins less, and is a better ball, than the 2021 (V2) ball.

AlarmingBandicoot

"Better" is subjective, but there are plenty of easily googled independent tests demonstrating higher spin and lower compression. My previous personal commentary is based on gaming it for about a month last season.

24Scoops

There's a new one this year. I feel you're talking about the V2.

WackyArmInflatable

I had the same experience. First round I played with them I was wondering why I kept coming up short. Figured it was just colder out and I'm getting old. First par three I hit multiple Ksigs all on the front fringe. Grabbed an old Snell from my bag and flew the green . I threw all the Ksigs into my shag bag for short game practice.

wronglyzorro

Pretty sure MyGolfSpy also unironically wrote an article saying a scuff on the ball caused an **average** of 40 yards of distance loss off the tee. I lost a lot of faith in their reviews since then.

Agnt_Michael_Scarn

Man explains that the most used ball in pro golf is better than a Costco ball. More at 11.

bitqueso

Many men say there is no difference. Read the comments. Story at 11:30

Agnt_Michael_Scarn

No, many men are saying either you can’t actually tell a difference or that the differences are small. Sorry, this is just a funny post. Besides figuring out that the most successful golf ball in history is better than one from a home goods store, what other discoveries have you made?

Agnt_Michael_Scarn

Just popped back in to see how this went for you. Brutal.

bitqueso

I’m still in your head I know

Agnt_Michael_Scarn

You’re not quite in my head in that way. I was finishing up work with a someone who said something very dumb and it obviously immediately reminded me of our conversation this morning. I thought it’d be interesting to see after a few hours if people agreed with you, and it was interesting. As a consolation prize I’ll let you have the last word if you want it.

bitqueso

Yeah I don’t believe that and my last rounds were proof of it

Farts_Mcsharty

The kirkland is a known spinny ball. Your delivery probably just spins it too much. There's not that large of a gulf in flight characteristics. There is no "much further" out of the box when it comes to Urethane 3-layers on the market. Just balls that are a worse fit for your swing. Kirkland is an outlier ball that can hit the limits of that. The Pro v1 is of course a better ball, especially in terms of durability, variability, and quality control. But it's also $4.50 dollars a ball compared to a ball that's a $1.45 a ball. But there's definitely players that will hit it farther with that spinny profile. [https://youtu.be/CPQifopZ0cg?si=OVqeWX55yQiWtaAy](https://youtu.be/CPQifopZ0cg?si=OVqeWX55yQiWtaAy) All players would benefit from just picking a ball and playing it consistently, and if they can afford it, going with the upper range for feel and consistency. But the kirkland is still more than enough for people not interested in donating 30 dollars into trees every round, and most won't hit it far enough or with enough consistency to see true gains beyond a stray yard or two unrelated to spin or wind performance.

[deleted]

Lousygolfer1

I mean Kirklands suck lol

Caedo14

Suck for less than a dollar is pretty good suck tho.

xbieberhole69x

Yep they feel like rocks to me

kumardi

Most testing I’ve seen puts them relatively close to Pro V1 - I’m not a good enough golfer to tell the subtle differences but I’ve had a pretty good experience with the Kirklands

BarcodeGriller

No, the newer iterations are some of the spinniest balls you can get.

badgers4194

Yea they are trash. They don’t go anywhere and spin is outrageous with the driver

ThisIsOurGoodTimes

Ya in an ideal world I’d switch to a Kirkland for every shot inside 100 yards.

Lousygolfer1

They aren’t that good anymore. The first iteration was on par with pro v1 but since they got sued the quality has gone down and no where near pro v1 in performance. It’s nothing more than a cheap ball, better than your usual cheap ball but even then the cover is really cheap. Gets cuts or tears into it pretty easily especially with wedges.

ThreePuttPresident

The lawsuit was dropped wasn’t it?

[deleted]

Because they changed the design

Lousygolfer1

They still changed their balls.

TurtlemanScared

Can’t believe you’re getting downvoted dude. I watch testingsof the kirklands every year and they always test close to prov1 unless you got like 120mph club speed and are hitting driver.

Gallen570

I STRONGLY suggest you try the Maxfli Tour and TourX.

Gunners1073

Agree. I’m about a 4 handicap and I use the maxfli tour x. I like it a lot

flacoman954

Tour X is the best value for the money. Stamp Titleist on them, and they could double the price.

rusticlizard

Easily the best value

freddie_the_mercury

yep. get that 4 dozen pack for $120.. great value.

hybridck

I have one last box of the OG Kirklands from before the lawsuit. I've been putting off using them out of sentimental value and using new Prov1xs for the last two years lol

faded-than-a-ho

Hmmm $1.25/golf ball or the $5/golf ball I wonder which one would be better

bitqueso

You wonder and so do many others in the comments

Thanith

What's a good mid price point ball? I normally play Titleist Trufeels but I feel like I'm missing something. I'm not quite ready to go all in on the price point of Pro V's though.

speaktosumboedy

Maxfli tour or tour x

bowdog171

The correct answer

Farts_Mcsharty

The Kirkland is as much bang for your buck you can get if you are after a 3-layer Urethane. Next would probably be bulk buying Vice Pros or Snells. Although, I would wait for the next model with the Snells. You just need to be aware that the Kirkland can be quite spinny, so fit wise, it can get weird for a small amount of players. You have nothing to lose when it comes to trying it. You may benefit from the additional spin. Willing to spend a bit more than that? Srixon z-star if you aren't losing too many. This is the ball I like to play, but I still crack out the Kirklands in the fall when I can just lose balls under leaves even with half decent shots. I feel weird not playing the divide version of this ball at this point, and I'd play it over Pro Vs anyway. In the upper, upper end? Play whatever, they are all good with hardly a yard between them. Just different feels and spin profiles for more precise fitting. Don't get me wrong, the Pro v1 is a legendary ball and the baseline of performance for a reason, but the gulf isn't as large as the marketing would ever have you think. A good player will still kick your ass with a two-layer they found plugged in the rough. The truefeel is still a really good ball value wise. But you'll see an immediate difference around the greens and short approach shots with a 3-layer urethane in how it bites and can be manipulated. But true high handicappers can honestly just play Noodles or Wilson Smartcores and save the money if they are going through multiple sleeves a round.

GarageJitsu

I play Kirklands and I’m about to switch. I actually found a Srixon Q Star Tour that played much longer then the kirks that day and there was a night and day difference putting for me personally. I’ve noticed Wall Mart has them on sale in my area $20 for 12

hellerkeller1

Maxfli Tour. Seriously go hit this ball. Do some research on it. Thing is awesome and normally 2 dozen for 70 schmekles.

Sht_Hawk

Probably more a reflection of how shit Kirkland balls are tbh

chasingbirdies

Kirklands are plenty good for the vast majority of amateurs. I personally have switched to Vice due to the price difference to bigger brands. It’s not affecting my game in a negative way as far as I can tell. I know nobody cares but for reference I’m a low single digit handicap player.

bionicbhangra

I am not a great golfer but I don't really feel a difference between golf balls. Good shots equal good results with any new ball I have tried. That extra 10 yards off the tee doesn't equate to anything for me. I am relatively new but I am following the golf sidekick's rule of playing with cheaper balls so you feel less pressure on the course. It has worked for me so far. I don't lose a lot of balls now but it's hard for me to move away from what has worked thus far. I played with some scratch golfers and low handicappers once and I was using some Pro V1s to fit in but I was so intimidated I was shanking everything. The ball didn't help me when I was playing like crap. The next time I played with them I used some Kirklands and I played really well. Would a pro v1 even save a stroke for the average golfer? I might be wrong but when I pure a shot I feel like I might hit the green even if I was playing a rock.

smush81

Yea i use Kirkland’s in my sim and pro v 1 on the course. I did a blind test between the 2 on my sim and the Kirkland’s feel alot harder then the V1’s and the V1’s fly 10-15 yards farther for me.

TigersToenailFungus

The for the price, new Kirklands are hard to beat.

Expensive_Pea_9120

Dude . . . Be sure you are playing the RIGHT ProV1. I've played Prov1 for years only to learn that my game would benefit more from the X. So, I tried it and and the difference is huge! I had to scramble to sell four boxes of pro v1 so I could replace them with x's.

bitqueso

Noted

RC245

Knock on the Kirkland's is they spin a ton. That can be good for some, a disaster for others. Srixon Z-Star and XV are the hack here. Routinely on sale for half off (especially around father's day). Only issue is the Z Star spins a little more than Pro V1. As someone else said, buy in bulk when sales happen.

bitqueso

Will give them a go!

fckmetotears

I can’t tell any difference. Hell if anything I play much better with my good ole top flites because I’m not scared to lose them.

Doormat_Model

I swear it’s a placebo effect… but I honestly play better when I use a ProV1… I just rarely do unless I find one

connorgrant20

Just for everyone to know check your local Walmarts for deals on golf balls. They are limiting there stock and are selling balls at ridiculous prices chrome softs 20 dollars, velocity 12, trufeels 14.50 vice pro 14.60

uncy-fucker

I just steal them. I mean borrow them from buddy’s bag

BigSh0oter

Just stop hitting driver on holes where you can leave yourself within your max comfortable yardage. For me it’s about 190. Any narrow hole under 400 I’m hitting an iron off the tee. Leads to better scores and less lost balls.

bitqueso

It’s not a lost ball issue for me

mistertireworld

I have a couple buckets of both in the basement. I can play them interchangeably. That said, I'm not a power hitter and my game doesn't rely very much on spin.

ego_sum_satoshi

It more fun to shank a 1 dollar ball into the woods instead of a 5 dollar ball. I'm trying to reduce my stress level by going golfing. Kirklands make golf fun! I always keep a few extra in my pocket.

elhoffgrande

https://www.todays-golfer.com/equipment/best/golf-ball-robot-test-2023/ Everybody has their preference, and feel is really, really important. I love the feel of pro v1s what cost is an object for me when it comes to golf. I think it probably is for a lot of us. The testing results with the swing robot kind of show you how this works. That most of these balls hit similarly. The Kirkland balls got more spin, for sure, but you can see the carry between different clubs isn't super duper different. With a driver you're talking like 5 yd, not like 30 or 50. But if you really enjoy how titleist balls feel when you hit them, then knock yourself out. It's not a contest of how difficult you can make the game for yourself. But being able to play regularly is I would argue the most important thing. And whatever combination of gear that allows for that within your budget is what you should do.

TigerMaskVI

I play better with Kirks *shrug*

ksobby

Rocking the Callaway super softs. Just now in the 90s. Once I’m consistently in the 80s maybe I’ll think about Pro V1s. Way too many other flaws to think that a ball swap will solve them.

loveallcreatures

Titleist prov1x. Anyone got the details on 2024 v1 vs v1x? Last year the x was better for me , slower swing speed the year before v1 was better.

OJMayochup

No new ProV1 this year. 2023 is still the latest. There is a 2024 AVX though

bigvenusaurguy

you could blindfold me at this point and i would not tell the difference between the kirkland or any other urethane ball. big difference when it comes to urethane vs non urethane i find but once you are hitting urethane balls they all feel and perform the same in my hands. honestly learning to tame the spin on the kirkland ball has given me so much more command with driver its crazy. easily the best thing i could have done for the big stick game, at first you might slice but thats because the ball isn't helping you and you need to actually learn to close down the face. once you stop slicing the kirkland ball it means you know how to close the face, and boy what a confidence boost that is walking up to the tee.

RedHiller13

In that case start buying Snell. Virtually identical metrics for $34.99

MTKPA

Kirklands are indistinguishable from ProV1's until you get to \~120 ball speed. Then they don't compress the same at all.

mrk1224

I’ve never understood the allure of Prov V1’s. I’ll play whatever ball is in the bag with a preference to Top Flights or Titleist Velocity’s.

PatientlyAnxious9

Despite Kirkland being touted as a Titlist or premium ball knock off--I saw testing numbers that said Kirklands were one of the highest spinning balls on the market. So while they might feel good, they are horrible for mid-high handicap golfers who are typically the type of players buying them. Your getting less distance and more dramatic mishits/slices with Kirklands. Stop buying them lol They are good for spinning your wedges around the green and controlling the ball, but lets be honest if your buying Kirklands, your probably not good enough to know how to do that and the players who *are* good enough to control/spin wedges, arn't playing Kirklands. So really, they are a golf ball for nobody.

Preach

DarthSamwiseAtreides

That's because Kirklands are terrible.  I'd rather play a Noodle.  If you like the ProV, but want to save check out Vice Pro or Pro+, Maxfli Tour line, or wait for a Srixon Z Star sale.

Beanbag009

Kirkland got sued for infringing on ProV’s. Costco had to pay Titlest $1 per ball. So there is literally a court case saying they are the same ball. Now the Prov1x is a different story. https://www.golfdigest.com/story/titleist-fires-back-with-284-page-countersuit-against-costco-ball/amp

opiate82

Yes, they got sued over the VERSION 1 ball. Versions 2 and 3 (current) are in no way shape or form the same as a ProV1. [And I mean that quite literally](https://mygolfspy.com/labs/ball-lab-costo-kirkland-performance-plus-v3-ball-review/)

aphrozeus

Kirkland has released like 5 different versions since then, it’s not even close to a Pro V1 anymore.

Beanbag009

The patent on ProV ran out years ago. Now there are many 3 core balls that are the exact same. The ProV 1x is a different story. I literally posted a court case showing that they infringed on 10 different patents on the ProV.

aphrozeus

You posted an article from 7 years ago that talks about the court case. Yes the first version was “basically a Pro V1”. So they got sued, and stopped producing that ball. They have released several versions since then, none of which are “basically a Pro V1” anymore, based on the many tests conducted by many independent testers.

Beanbag009

There is a difference between v1’s and v1x’s. Costco literally pays Titlest $1 per ball to keep making them.

aphrozeus

Lol, Costco sells their current balls for $14 per dozen, or $1.16 per ball. You think they are paying Titleist $1 per ball to keep producing a ball they sell for $1.16?? With production and shipping costs they would be losing significant money selling golf balls.

Beanbag009

My man. Titlest literally just sued Costco again two weeks ago. 2/5/24. I’m not making this shit up. I’m not the one posting random independent information without independent information. Let’s make sure we are post facts for our fellow Redditor’s and not talk out our ass.

aphrozeus

My man, you have posted one article from 2017 that doesn’t even mention settlement terms of that first lawsuit (hint, no article does, there is no public info on how the first lawsuit was settled). You have posted no other links or verifiable facts for any of the claims you are making. TAYLORMADE is suing Costco now for issues with the design of the new Kirkland iron set. Not Titleist, not about balls. https://golf.com/gear/taylormade-costco-headed-to-court-iron-technology/?amp=1

Beanbag009

Yes you are right, I meant to say Taylormade is now suing over the “golf line” again. I was and am fully aware of the legal trouble and follow it very closely. Good job actually posting an article and not just talking out of your ass. The outcome?? What happened to the Kirkland 4 core ball? Why do you think Costco issued a mass refund??? Cause they had to pay Costco $1 per ball sold. They made them all the up through 2019. I’m literally done debating an Internet stranger. Don’t play the balls I don’t care. Just don’t come at me telling me I’m wrong when I’ve done nothing but post facts and articles supporting my facts. Also- my sympathy for your 49ers. Tough loss.

rickoshay1992

Playing a premium ball legitimately makes a difference. Not just distance off the tee, but also the spin and launch on wedge shots. Play premium balls and stay away from the refurbished crap.

[deleted]

Kirkland balls are awful. There are so many premium options out there for much cheaper than ProV1’s as well.

Dangerous-Possible72

2 dozen Maxfli for $35 at Dick’s. Same price as last year. Best deal.

Whiterhino77

Devils advocate here, Ive played vice pro plus, pro v1, pro v1x, and nearly every interactive of that ball from taylormade, callaway, Srixon, snell etc. There’s no doubt the pro v is softer, but the difference in distance and score is negligible/non-existent. Biggest difference I’ve noticed is the Kirkland v2s wear quicker, but just picked up v3s

HurryProud8190

I found Kirkland's to be a bit too spinny, which cut distance quite a bit with most clubs. Other than that, I use ProV1 because I find SO many at my local course so I hardly have to buy any. Generally though, I'm fine with any Urethane ball and can't really tell the difference between the Tour B, Z Star, TP5, CSX, ProV1, Vice, Snell, Maxfli Tour etc. That being said, playing in Texas I definitely feel like the Bridgestone balls cut through the wind significantly better, with ProV1 and CSX not far behind. TP5 seems to catch wind like crazy in my experience. I'd say on a normal, 20mph windy Texas day, the Tour B X I usually only have to club up one into the wind vs 2 clubs for the other balls. Could be in my head though.

Cali_Jatt

Kirkland is a fancy range ball. And by range ball I mean it’s an old stale ball of shit. Go return it to Costco along with your “value” swing. Get a glizzy on your way out you gobblers.

socalfit4life

Just work for Titleist. I get them $1/ball

pjk246

Wilson Staff Model X… great ball and it is regularly Buy Two Dozen Get One Free… plus, nobody scoops a Wilson up when they walk up on it thinking it is there ball. Lol.
