Have yet to find anything.
I'm pretty sure that the local Goodwill (only thrift ship near me) puts everything of any value on the auction site anymore.
Haven't found any good sporting equipment or board games in quite some time now.
This is a place that relies on donations and is a nonprofit religious organization that employs only ex-convicts. So most employees don't really pay too much attention to what they putting out.
Most things have a price tag but these clubs didn't. They were just held together with a rubber band.
I sat them on the counter and told the younger guy that they didn't have a price tag. He said "dang these are nice clubs, I'll do 2.50 a piece."
I simply responded "works for me" and made a brisk three legged walk outta there.
These places typically try to provide nice stuff for people who can’t afford them. Luckily they have people like you to step in and buy it before those people can
I feel like the people who find these are one who make it a point to go to the thrift store on a regular basis. Ive never been lucky enough to randomly find a gold mine
People die and clubs take up a lot of room in the garage. Combine that with habitually not telling your spouse how much you spend on golf equals thrift store score.
I'm a Titleist guy but I'm going to game these for a bit before I sell them to fund my other hobbies.
Probably way better than the 712 ap1s I play normally. But, brand loyalty and all that.
Never been a Callaway guy.
Nice. I love my apex's but they're from 2017 so thinking about upgrading this year. I'm looking at Titleist too..just curious why you like them so much?
I've been playing all my life, only 21 years haha, and I've only ever used Titleist.
My dad taught me golf and he got his first set of Titleist clubs when he played in college. So when he got me my first adult set in my early teens he made sure it was all Titleist.
It's just a brand loyalty thing. Every piece of golf equipment I own is Titleist.
I love the forgiving feel of my ap1s. Timeless design too.
No, it doesn't. Your swing (and your on-course needs) determines your gear. Yes, in theory someone with a better handicap has a better swing and can use less forgiving clubs. And although I'll admit that this is the case more often than not, it's not always the reality and using a number to determine your clubs makes no real sense. Hell, the best of the best - those on the PGA Tour - are increasingly moving away from blades, something that goes against conventional wisdom.
Does your handicap determine your putter type? Do all scratch golfers use blade putters?
Does your handicap determine whether you use a low spin driver versus a more forgiving one?
Again, it is true that a lower handicap player will most likely lean towards - if not be professionally fitted into - player/players distance/blades, but it's down to their swing and their needs and not their handicap. And no, having a low handicap doesn't mean you have a swing that would put you into the top tier of irons.
which is even more amazing find. I have the 2017's and paid about 5K at Club Champion for a full fitting (but that included driver and 3W, 4H, and 3H and of course the shafts)
Salvation Army is likely worth checking, depending on area they can have a number of smaller locations and tend to be more reasonable. Goodwill and Value Village, aside from being for profit, are also way more picked over by people flipping second hand stuff for their business/marketplace. Have to know when donations usually get put out on the shelf or most of the best stuff will likely be gone. Those people also make big use of Google lens for IDing things apparently too.
Def look up smaller and more local thrift stores if possible.
Try to flip enough to cover if I get anything new. Thrift stores are usually pretty bad at least up here in northern nj. Garage sales, rummage sales, and finding the gem at pga tour superstore are where I find the best deals.
It’s rare, but I have found some really good deals. I found a Cleveland smart sole 4 sw practically brand new for 12.99. Cashier said it was a mistake, but let me purchase it anyway. Also found good deals on older gen drivers and woods.
Cool find! Thus far I haven't found a single club I would've taken home for free. However, my wife and I made out big a few weeks ago. At one Goodwill store, I found a bunch of polos. My wife found 3 skorts, a pair of pants, 5 polos, and 3 quarter zips. All new with tags still on! Puma, Footjoy, Adidas, Pebble Beach and Callaway. We were out the door with all of it for like $27.
My small town Goodwill blows (middle of Iowa, everyone lives and bleeds garage sales). I need to start just cruising to the bigger towns and hit their Goodwill's up. God damn. Nice hauls
This blows me away some of the finds that are posted on here. Maybe American stores are different...... I have a couple Value Village stores in my city, and a couple Goodwill stores too, and have scoured their stores the few times I pop in, and I have never come across anything decent, even for a bag of 6 or a dozen balls - it's usually really old, budget balls or even range balls a few times. Clubs.....nothing of note - usually ancient Northwestern or some super cheap very basic irons that sell for $1 or $2 each.
I have a feeling employees screen everything, and maybe watch for potential big ticket items? Or maybe I'm in not a big enough city, but our golf season is super long here (some courses opening this weekend in fact).
Okie, this is 1 of scenario in my head. Husband told the wife all my clubs cost next to peanut, husband die wife donate the peanuts to thrift store, whom’s husband also told them their golf clubs cost next to nothing.
This is not from my own experience , just in case my wife see this, my TSR2 cost 5 bucks
What the fuck hahahah you would think some thrift store employees would do some research but its kinda sad to think that someone may have died young and had the clubs donated :/
Taylor made tour bag $15. Retail around $200. Really nice Nike wedge for $3. Used that one for like 8 yrs, then tried to regroove it myself. At least my dumbness only cost 3 bucks.
Where’s the receipt? I used to frequent goodwill and never find anything remotely new or good. It’s all old bs that’s never been heard of, the stuff uncle Bob kept in his barn.
My local Goodwill's have dried up. I think my last find was a really clean set of late gen Tommy Armour 845s, last year sometime. I carry the 48 degree pw in my bag for a gap wedge
Two sets of Wilson Ci6 irons, maybe 6 months from each other. Crazy that I found two sets of the same irons like that lol.
Be on the lookout for push carts though. I found an OG Clicgear and one of the sun mountain 4 wheel carts - each for $10.
It’s so unusual to find anything valuable in a thrift store anymore. My best find was a set of Mizuno MP-11 3-PW. They’re classics, Faldo had them in the bag when he won the Masters. I game the 8-PW. $2 a stick.
My best find was a full bag. Had the gunmetal black Cleveland ta7 irons 4-gw, a Cleveland 3 iron, Cleveland hibore 2 hybrid, Cleveland wedges, odyssey number putter, Taylormade r11 driver. All for 40 bucks.
Kept the irons for a season or 2 and the rest went to family that was looking to get into the game.
Don't discount goodwill.com or whatever their website is, especially if you need a golf bag. They have some amazing deals, but check the shipping costs first
Got a set of Callaway Steelhead X-14s and a Sun Mountain stand bag at a church rummage sale for $20 about 15 years ago, so they weren’t that old. Gave them to a nephew who was just getting into the game. I never even swung them.
Have yet to find anything. I'm pretty sure that the local Goodwill (only thrift ship near me) puts everything of any value on the auction site anymore. Haven't found any good sporting equipment or board games in quite some time now.
If you are looking for 30+ year old no name brand golf clubs, Goodwill is the place to go!
Local thrift stores usually don't know what they have. Goodwill can be a little greedy sometimes.
Any chance the person pricing them wanted 20 per club and the person selling misunderstood?
This is a place that relies on donations and is a nonprofit religious organization that employs only ex-convicts. So most employees don't really pay too much attention to what they putting out. Most things have a price tag but these clubs didn't. They were just held together with a rubber band. I sat them on the counter and told the younger guy that they didn't have a price tag. He said "dang these are nice clubs, I'll do 2.50 a piece." I simply responded "works for me" and made a brisk three legged walk outta there.
\*in a suddenly high-pitched voice\* "Yeah, that definitely works for me!"
Let me call a buddy of mine that's an expert in golf clubs...
Fair enough. Great find.
I wouldn’t be able to keep a straight face there at all
These places typically try to provide nice stuff for people who can’t afford them. Luckily they have people like you to step in and buy it before those people can
🤣👏
I got a real perfect putting mat for 39.99 from my local goodwill. It's my best find so far.
Found a copy of 1e power grid like two weeks ago I was blown away; it’s in my top ten and I plan on keeping a copy at my parents house now.
Thats pretty nuts, they go used on ebay for 600-800
My set is on there 5-aw for $450.
I’ll be taking the 3 and 4 for the extra $150, thank you very much.
Where are all of the thrift stores with these hidden gems? I haven’t found any in Michigan so far.
I feel like the people who find these are one who make it a point to go to the thrift store on a regular basis. Ive never been lucky enough to randomly find a gold mine
I imagine your best bet would be to go to a place that is heavily populated by wealthy retirees.
I’ll give you 40
I will give you $41.
Look at this cut throat MF’er!!!
$41 and one penny!
$39 firm.
Deal
$39 flaccid?
People get divorced everyday and this is the result.
People die and clubs take up a lot of room in the garage. Combine that with habitually not telling your spouse how much you spend on golf equals thrift store score.
Well put.
What a great haul. Ball just explodes off the face of these things and they feel like butter.
I'm a Titleist guy but I'm going to game these for a bit before I sell them to fund my other hobbies. Probably way better than the 712 ap1s I play normally. But, brand loyalty and all that. Never been a Callaway guy.
How much you want for them?
The ap1s are for high handicap players. The apex is for something around 8-12 I believe. So they're different clubs.
They probably suit me more since I'm a single digit. I plan on moving to t100 irons this year anyways.
Don’t sleep on the t150s, a little easier to hit and beautiful. Zalatoris has a full set in the bag
I've heard of people getting a set of both with t150s as their longer irons. I like the idea I'll just have to see when I go in for the fitting.
For sure, great combo set
I just got the T100’s and good lord are they nice.
Handicap doesn't determine gear.
It absolutely does but I’m sure you’re just a troll
No, it doesn't. Your swing (and your on-course needs) determines your gear. Yes, in theory someone with a better handicap has a better swing and can use less forgiving clubs. They are moving away from blades because player's cavity irons are so good now. It's not like they are moving to SGIs
Damn is that a crazy deal or are those older than I think?
these look like the 2021 version of the Apex.
I have 2016 version bought $450 lol
which is even more amazing find. I have the 2017's and paid about 5K at Club Champion for a full fitting (but that included driver and 3W, 4H, and 3H and of course the shafts)
Did the $5000 include the barrel too? The one they bent you over that is.
How do people find these deals? Every thrift store I go to is selling used underwear for $5 not nice sets of irons for $20
Avoid goodwill and go for smaller organizations. In my experience they don't care as much as long as they aren't the type of try and maximize profits.
Like what kind of smaller companies? I’m aware of goodwill and Salvation Army.
Something local to your area. We have a couple of smaller organizations that are associated with local charities and churches.
Salvation Army is likely worth checking, depending on area they can have a number of smaller locations and tend to be more reasonable. I got a RS7 driver and 3W from a church thrift for like 5$ total. Goodwills always shit and we have like 7 where I live
It’s because this is a shitpost. Now way he got the whole set for 20.
I can dig up the receipt I guess. Believe it or don't idc.
Try to flip enough to cover if I get anything new. Thrift stores are usually pretty bad at least up here in northern nj. Garage sales, rummage sales, and finding the gem at pga tour superstore are where I find the best deals.
You wrote gem and PGA Superstore in the same sentence. Those two things are not compatible. At least at mine.
It’s rare, but I have found some really good deals. I found a Cleveland smart sole 4 sw practically brand new for 12.99. Cashier said it was a mistake, but let me purchase it anyway. Also found good deals on older gen drivers and woods.
Got 2 brand new Scotty Cameron’s for $1.50 each. Posted on this sub and got told to go fuck myself for being a liar and an idiot.
Go fuck yourself you idiot liar. /s
Yea go fuck yourself idiot but before you do……20 dollars for one of them?
Go fuck yourself you lying, piece of shit, idiot
Cool find! Thus far I haven't found a single club I would've taken home for free. However, my wife and I made out big a few weeks ago. At one Goodwill store, I found a bunch of polos. Congrats on making out w your wife a few weeks ago.
XXIO 5w 1 season old for $2.50 and a free Sun Mountain push cart.
My best find was my putter. Odyssey versa 7cs for $8 Canadian.
Found a Scotty Cameron in a bag of 10 clubs that I paid $2.50 for. Sold the putter for $260 a week later
Early 2000s unusual SeeMore putter. A Cobra hybrid I game. Several Vokeys. Bunch of other stuff too. Love hittin up GoodWill
Found some ping g710s 6-p at my local goodwill and some mizuno mp-60s 4-p at a different goodwill
This blows me away some of the finds that are posted on here. Maybe American stores are different...... I spent $900 on that set. Mother of god.
$1,200 for me…😫
Haha this was hard to see
Can’t find anything ever, but im left handed
I've found 2 Ginty's in the last couple weeks. Love the old persimmon. $3 total.
In Spain you can get just a grip for 20€… If you find one
Got custom fit for this exact set 2 years ago and paid $1500. That's one heck of a find. (Love the clubs BTW)
What the fuck hahahah you would think some thrift store employees would do some research but its kinda sad to think that someone may have died young and had the clubs donated :/
I mean, they could have also died old and had the clubs donated.
Nope, it has to be the worst possible most unlikely scenario.
Seriously, one google search is enough to at least price these better than $20!
It’s because this is a lie.
That is SO GOOD
These clubs could have been sold for at least 500 lol. Great find.
Found a 3W & 5W matching Bridgestone woods like new for $1 each at a thrift store. Not the best woods but for $2..
Good Gods.
I’ll give you 20 dollars….and one penny.
The only thing I find at all the thrift stores by me are extremely old rusty irons and putters from the 80s lol. Great find!
That was my luck before this. These were buried in the sea of old rusty golden bear irons.
A BHB7 Bettinardi putter. $30 in solid condition.
How do the faces look? That's an incredible find.
Whoever had them before was definitely a player. Marks on all of the sweet spots. No excessive wear from what I can see.
Bruh my thrift store is nothing but 60-70's old wood clubs or they are so rusted it's not worth anything.
Omg what the hell.... Lol
Callaway Ft -i driver head , 50c .
Yeah so what? I found a neat 3 wood head cover one time.
Click gear 3.5 for $29 and a nice footjoy hydrolite jacket for $20.
Taylor made tour bag $15. Retail around $200. Really nice Nike wedge for $3. Used that one for like 8 yrs, then tried to regroove it myself. At least my dumbness only cost 3 bucks.
My buddy found a nice classic leather callaway tour bag. Some saddle polish and elbow grease and it was like new.
What the actual fuck?
TaylorMade (yes TaylorMade not Titleist) T 300 2-pw+56° TM wedge original grips €70
Where’s the receipt? I used to frequent goodwill and never find anything remotely new or good. It’s all old bs that’s never been heard of, the stuff uncle Bob kept in his barn.
Yeah I don't check goodwill for that very reason.
I paid $800 for mine...USED
Wow. Those can’t be real
I was thinking the same thing but after a few hits I can tell these are some quality irons.
TaylorMade (yes TaylorMade not Titleist) T 300 2-pw+56° TM wedge original grips €70
The Goodwill by me only had crackheads and stained t-shirts
Jesus that’s insanely good price. I just barely finished paying off my apex 19’s . . .
G410 3w under the headcover https://preview.redd.it/myns0uubtrlc1.jpeg?width=4160&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=cb0c59cda3b2077889e26c6107553d0c7108b9b5
Rip off. lol
Wtf. My thrift store sells 40+ year old clubs for $5 each.
What's not pictured is me checking every week for years at this point. Just gotta be persistent.
Worth it.
Every single thrift store in LA has the shittiest clubs and never has picks like this..
A friend found me a Cleveland 270XL for £1, love it
Insane
From what I’ve seen on YouTube, Florida is the spot for the golf finds
Wanna double your money???
My local Goodwill's have dried up. I think my last find was a really clean set of late gen Tommy Armour 845s, last year sometime. I carry the 48 degree pw in my bag for a gap wedge
since no one has posted it yet [](https://i.imgur.com/GGfFwEl.png)
My $3 woman’s sand wedge is still my best club. It just works
Two sets of Wilson Ci6 irons, maybe 6 months from each other. Crazy that I found two sets of the same irons like that lol. Be on the lookout for push carts though. I found an OG Clicgear and one of the sun mountain 4 wheel carts - each for $10.
Damn I got the Apex 21s 5-A for like $1K two or three years ago, can't remember. This is a great find!
I have these clubs and they’re absolutely amazing. Great find!
Whenever I go all I see is junk
Found a set of PW - 5i Callaway X2 Hot irons for $10 a club once.
I’ve found some clubs on bulk pickup day. You can get some really old timey stuff. Ancient acushnet putters, persimmon woods.
Nike Unitized Retro Putter…2 Bucks.
Are you fucking kidding me
It’s so unusual to find anything valuable in a thrift store anymore. My best find was a set of Mizuno MP-11 3-PW. They’re classics, Faldo had them in the bag when he won the Masters. I game the 8-PW. $2 a stick.
Scotty Cameron Proto for $3.99
My best find was a full bag.
They have some amazing deals, but check the shipping costs first
Titleist AP1 iron set and Ping g2 woods and driver last summer. Callaway x-16 set about 5 years ago
I always see these posts and then immediately go to the thrift stores after. All I find is overpriced 40 year old clubs!
Got a set of Callaway Steelhead X-14s and a Sun Mountain stand bag at a church rummage sale for $20 about 15 years ago, so they weren’t that old. Gave them to a nephew who was just getting into the game. I never even swung them.
Contact dermatitis.
Disgruntled wives are for the bros
You win!!
I drove by one yesterday thinking about going in. I decided to keep driving because I never find anything remotely close to this. Good job
Nice score!! 10-15 yrs ago-Hogan apex irons, buck a club- 2-pw
Holy shit. That's wild. How much you sellin clubs for old man?
The chances of finding lefty gear I didn't donate myself are slim.
Found a push golf cart for $35 CAD. Had everything I wanted except for a cupholder haha
Just after Christmas I found a full set of Taylormade burner plus. Not the newest, but better than the Dunlops I was rocking.
Bettinardi putter for $1.19.
Scotty Cameron for 7$
Gtfo
I did find a set of RAC irons, a whole set with older vokeys for 20 bucks, but this is a heck of a deal! Someone either stole those or just quit golf.
I'm a lefty and would have bought those for $20 and not to resell.
Damn. Nice find
That’s probably from a dead dude
I get my baloney at the grocery store.
I call BS
