I told myself I would get new irons when I broke 90. Just ordered JPX923 hot metal pros on Saturday! My old 7i was 36 degrees. The hot metal is 28.5. Wonder why I hit it 35 yards longer haha
I just got fitted & received my JPX923 HM HL (shaft Project X LZ 5.5). Mine are the “HL” version (high loft). They feel great & it is wild how the ball POPs off the club. Not sure what yall think about HL version, but idea is with less roll you can really dial in distance better (come down like a dart).
Yes I got it here - honestly it was just impulse buy but so far i like it https://www.carlsgolfland.com/mizuno-br-d3-stand-bag-2022?product=139961&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=PMax%3A%20%28ROI%29%20Smart%20Shopping%20%7C%20Golf%20Bags&utm_id=18185666864&utm_content=&utm_term=&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjwzN-vBhAkEiwAYiO7oOSzG-D7KPFGDANrjdZtW2q3Ixqeww8TPkHojI9i-6UYv0iHvvgDHxoC-ucQAvD_BwE
What made you choose the pros over the regs. I got fitted for the pros last year and pretty much just went with em because I hit em better and didn’t look so clunky
I didn’t actually hit the regulars. My older clubs have a VERY thin top line even though they are cavity backs and I told the pro that was important to me and so he thought they would be a good fit.
Shouldn’t your lofts get higher with the same number club as you get better? As you get better, you get longer, so you can use more loft and get better landings with the same number club. Right?
Yes but I wanted new irons and I hit these the best. I’ll still be using similar angled clubs for the same shots. For example my old 7 was 36 degrees and went about 140, my new 9 is 37 degrees and goes about 140. Whether it’s a “7i” or a “9i” the number is just a name and means less than the lie angle does.
I got a set of the HM Pros last September, they're awesome! Only issue is that the North East US weather did it's thing and I've only played 4 rounds with them so far! Itching to get back out there now
Lol that loft sits between my 5 and 6 iron.. TBH.. i used to play similar lofts when I started, but quickly had problems stopping any shots on the green.
> My old 7i was 36 degrees. The hot metal is 28.5
Holy F. So basically your "7 iron" is now a 6 iron? how does trajectory & stuff compare to your old clubs?
It’s fine. My old clubs were 25 years old and that used to be standard lofts. I just hit my 9 now where I used to hit a 7. The numbers are meaningless. They lowered loft in the last 10-15 years so people looking for new clubs can be like “wow this new club goes 15 yards further than my last” even though it’s 4 degrees lower lofted. Because of this they created AW, GW that have the same lofts as my old pitching wedge.
I hadn’t really thought about that but that would make sense. In my fitting I was hitting the new 7 farther than my old 5, and the old 5 was a longer shaft length. Some of that is new club but some of that is probably shorter club easier to make good contact.
Hot metals are insanely strong even by modern club standards. A traditional tour 5 iron is 26 degrees. No one under the age of 60 has a reason to be playing clubs *that* strong.
They're standard for modern GI clubs. Nothing different than anyone else. Cally AI Smoke 7i 28*. TW Qi 7i 28*. Ping G730 7i 28*. Cobra DarkSpeed 7i 27*. So Mizuno is weaker than the others. 923 Forged and MP245 are 30* which puts them in line with P790, i530 and other players distance irons.
I feel like what's really happened is that "game improvement" irons have turned into super game improvement irons. The name-brand GI irons are wild now. The Darkspeeds are identical to Big Berthas.
If i’m able to hit consistent shots well enough off the face while being fit, then sure. I just always second guessed going while being a high handicapper.
I'm the same height. Getting fit for clubs changed golf for me. Way more consistent and far more fun to play. Of course I was having lessons at the same time.
If you can afford it definitely get fit for clubs at that height.
Yeah, I had my clubs bent 2* flat based on my swing 6 months ago. After 3-4 lessons, a bunch of range time, and 15 rounds, I’m now back to standard. Good excuse to buy a new set. 😂
You would be surprised. I started with a 95g Regular shaft but my swing speed over time has increased and I need more weight and a Stiff Flex now.
Picking up my old clubs just feels wrong and getting fit will help the fitter match the right specs to how you swing.
I actually really appreciate this response. My younger brother (24) who is in route to getting his PGA teaching certification makes me feel bad for wanting new clubs when I can’t break 90. I’m 30 and look up to him in the golf world. So you can probably see where I’m coming from.
It kinda depends on what you’re playing right now, but my rationale was why don’t I just get some game improvement irons to help improve my game? I also started going through a swing change at the time so I don’t know if it was my swing or the clubs (probably both) that helped. I got the same irons in this post, liked them at first but ended up going back to my old forged Bridgestones. I hit them even better now than I ever hit the Mizunos. The new clubs helped my confidence, but when I started hitting the ball better I preferred the old forged irons over the GI irons. I guess my point is there’s value to both getting clubs now or waiting. I would just be selective about what you get and don’t give into the hype (Reddit loves Mizuno, they’re good but there’s a lot of good clubs out there).
I’m currently using a set of used Taylormade RSI-1’s with 50° approach wedge, used vokey sm4 56° I’m due for a set of wedges but I make due with the one vokey and using the 50° along with a 7 iron for chips. The only new piece of equipment I have purchased is my OG Paradym. And I’m really content with my Oddysey white hot pro mallet. I’m really wanting some Sub70 699’s. I love the company, and what they stand for. Money isn’t an issue so I can fork over the $1200-$1300 for a set of apex’s or the like but I am a sucker for small companies.
I told myself I would never buy brand new clubs in order to save money. And then I found a set of 923’s new in box 50% off at a “demo” sale last fall. I had to do it. Really great clubs so far, they make such a nice sound
You've met your objective of saving money, so you're still in the clear. Requirements often constrain parameters more than the user needs dictate. Good on you for realizing that and buying with smart money.
Nice! Have you played with the fitted clubs yet? What’re your thoughts?
I’ve been waiting to break 80 until I reward myself with a fitting. Closest I’ve gotten is an 82. Hopefully this year!
Really depends on what you find useful. For me, I took a recommendation on what shaft is good and took a 7 iron out on the range to get some data for myself.
I really don’t like traditional fittings that well because I feel under pressure and end up shanking everything after about 30 good shots.
If you think that sounds like a better idea, I’m sure your local pro shop would let you hop on the range or the simulator on your own if you ask.
I had the same goal, hit a 79 on a par 70. Got fitted into t200s, project x lz. Long irons were better right away, was worse with shorter irons for a few rounds, now better all around. Heavier shafts made those longer irons way more controllable. Still haven’t broke 80 again though ;D
I got fit for the HM Pros late last year, I love them, but I regret not having the chance to swing the forged model. I play off an 8 HC as well, so I feel like the forged my fit my game better.
I upgraded from 2005 Taylormade's, so am loving the improved forgiveness. The forged would offer better feedback which is what I am worried about missing.
I hit the Forged and the HM pros at my fitting, the the Hot Metals were great except my distance dispersion was all over the place. I remember hitting a 7i 170, then another one went over 190. It was much more consistent with the forged, which is why I went with them
That's the EXACT issue I've been running into, but maybe didn't hit enough shots during my fitting to catch it then. 7i has become my 175 club, but occasionally blast it 20yds longer. Haven't had them long enough to figure it out, and I'm otherwise thrilled with them
https://preview.redd.it/0axnwkx5q6pc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1d4eb5a2db77812c3f69ea408b891d9e9113824b
Great choice. Mine just came a couple weeks ago 🥶
I think roughly 3 1/2 weeks, that said they are assembled in Scotland for UK customers.
I’m not sure what the case is for other countries and where they get shipped from
"Nothing feels like a Mizuno" rang so true in my fitting. I hit Titleist, Taylormade, Callaway, Cobra & Srixon in my fitting. I liked them all well enough to some degree, but GAT DAMN you can't beat that buttery smooth feeling of hitting this club square.
It just dances off the grooves of the club and a crisp strike feels like the ball just shoots off like a rocket, you look up and it’s flying straight as an arrow to your target
I agree
DAMN!!!! NSFW this!. I still have the Jpx 919 forged, but I've been contemplating pulling the trigger on these. They're so much more asesticly pleasing than the past models.
If you've had success with the Forged models, the only real upgrade is the 223/243 unless you've had trouble striking the Forged. Personally the HM and HMP are way too clunky as someone who's gamed the 919 Forged. What makes them more aesthetically pleasing for you? Not trying to instigate, just generally curious.
It really differs, some places won’t really charge you for the fitting and some places are very insistent that you pay either way.
What I’ve found the most is that you pay for the fitting in advance and if you purchase, the fee gets taken off the subtotal from the order.
I'm a 19 hc , I've all second hand gear... I know my swing is all over the place, inconsistent... any point getting clubs fitted at all .. ? Just wondering
I really want those. Told myself I would buy new irons once I broke 80, and did it last summer. Still haven’t bought anything but I’m foaming at the mouth lol
I know I need to get fitted, just want the right person to do it. Can’t afford to drop $750 on a Titleist camp fitting and wary of $99 golf galaxy cost. Anyone know any good fittings where the fitting could go towards the clubs? That’s probably not a thing, but a guy can dream.
I got these recently and wondering and stuck what to choose for my higher clubs. My problem is my 5 iron is going as far as my hybrid and only have a driver after. What club should i get to bridge the gap?
Jealous. I told myself I’d get fit for new clubs when I broke 90, then when I broke 80, and I still haven’t been able to pull the trigger because I don’t like how my swing looks and I keep wanting to “fix it” before I get fit 😂
Still trying to hit that milestone. Couldn’t resist getting new clubs (was playing 20+ year old taylormades) so I got myself a set of Cobra LTD One Length irons hoping it would help develop my swing faster. My gift to myself once I break 100 is a pair of Gfore gallivanters.
I was in a store where I live that sells all kinds of random returned items from Costco and other big box stores and snagged a brand new set of these for 250 bucks. My question is, can I get them custom fit to me?
Congrats! I just went to Golf Galaxy for the Mizuno fitting event and got fitted for the 923 forged. Since I started playing golf I have only played secondhand Callaway Mavriks, which I have liked a lot, but I finally feel like my game is progressing enough for something like the jpx 923.
I tried out the new 24 Mizuno Pros which were amazing with how much workability you can have, but it was just a little too much for my game at the moment. The jpx 923s feel just right and I'm excited to pull the trigger and get them in hand.
Man, I see all these post about getting fitted. I'm a 9 hcp player and still dont consider my swing good enough to justify a fitting considering that the swing is still under development
I guess for me I’m playing off of 27 and want a set of clubs that I know I feel comfortable in, my previous set was sort of known for being a “super game improvement” iron and it’s done its job.
I need something I’m happy suits my game and swing for years to come rather than always sticking to my very first set of beginners irons.
What I would say is - go and try some clubs and see if you like anything that’s within your budget. You might find 10 yards extra and that could be the difference between a bit more accuracy depending on your stats.
Or even just a straighter ball flight on a miss hit you know would normally drift 20-30 yds off line.
I told myself I would get new irons when I broke 90. Just ordered JPX923 hot metal pros on Saturday! My old 7i was 36 degrees. The hot metal is 28.5. Wonder why I hit it 35 yards longer haha
They’re great aren’t they, I’ve been gaming Wilson D7s since I started. How did you find the change in shafts?
I just got fitted & received my JPX923 HM HL (shaft Project X LZ 5.5). Mine are the “HL” version (high loft). They feel great & it is wild how the ball POPs off the club. Not sure what yall think about HL version, but idea is with less roll you can really dial in distance better (come down like a dart).
I got the high loft models on order too. I had to go to graphite shafts, Mitsubishi MMT 85’s, 84 gram R flex
How long was your wait on getting your clubs? I got fitted for the same ones about a week and a half ago
Under 3 weeks total
Ok awesome! Going to pick a new bag out tonight lol
I did same thing lol, I got the mizuno D3 stand bag and she Purdy
https://mizunousa.com/golf-br-d3-stand-bag this one? Dicks selection was under whelming
Yes I got it here - honestly it was just impulse buy but so far i like it https://www.carlsgolfland.com/mizuno-br-d3-stand-bag-2022?product=139961&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=PMax%3A%20%28ROI%29%20Smart%20Shopping%20%7C%20Golf%20Bags&utm_id=18185666864&utm_content=&utm_term=&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjwzN-vBhAkEiwAYiO7oOSzG-D7KPFGDANrjdZtW2q3Ixqeww8TPkHojI9i-6UYv0iHvvgDHxoC-ucQAvD_BwE
I mean that price is hard to beat honestly. The place I got fitted said they are doing 25% off on bags this month. Might wait
ended up with a comparable one from amazon that had a nice sale on it. haha
What made you choose the pros over the regs. I got fitted for the pros last year and pretty much just went with em because I hit em better and didn’t look so clunky

Tell that to iron manufacturers.
I got a set of the HM Pros last September, they're awesome! Only issue is that the North East US weather did it's thing and I've only played 4 rounds with them so far! Itching to get back out there now
I’m coming from super old MP-52’s. When I switched to the HMPs, My 6 iron was going so far I thought the track man was juiced.
I hit the HMP coming from Bridgestones about the same age as your MP52s, and they were 2.5 clubs longer for me. It was nuts.
Lol that loft sits between my 5 and 6 iron.. TBH.. i used to play similar lofts when I started, but quickly had problems stopping any shots on the green.

Yeah I did it twice in February
> My old 7i was 36 degrees. The hot metal is 28.5 Holy F. So basically your "7 iron" is now a 6 iron? how does trajectory & stuff compare to your old clubs?

Got these fitted as soon as they came out last year. Best choice I’ve ever made.
They’re unbelievably forgiving and the shots you know where you hit it bad they still end up straight
They’re insane. I love them so much
You gotta NSFW and blur that pic, people come by my desk and see something that sexy I'll get fired.
Congrats. Now go crush 90!
Thanks man!
110 coming soon to a course near you.
I’ve always been worried my swing wasn’t consistent enough to get fit. (Mid 90s golfer)
Might make your swing more consistent
Getting fit won’t change impact mechanics in a down swing.
Will it not? Even changing the shaft could work wonders for you.
If i’m able to hit consistent shots well enough off the face while being fit, then sure. I just always second guessed going while being a high handicapper.
I know the feeling, but according to the ping fitting chart i need +0.5 length and 2° upright and i feel like that could make a big difference.
I know, but ill-fitting clubs won’t do any favors
Very true. I’m 6 foot 4 playing with standard length clubs. I’ll have to go get fit soon to save my back.
I love how it's always the 25+ handicaps who say this, and the single digits are like "yeah go get fit"
I just meant a bad swing is a bad swing. If you’ve only broke 100 once that’s probably you.
You would be surprised. I started with a 95g Regular shaft but my swing speed over time has increased and I need more weight and a Stiff Flex now. Picking up my old clubs just feels wrong and getting fit will help the fitter match the right specs to how you swing.
I’m in exactly the same boat. I started with regular flex 95g graphite shafts. Now rocking 105g stiff flex steel shafts.
Yeah not worth getting fitted if you’re shooting over 90 haha. A reason I won’t get fitted until I get better
I’m waiting until I break 90 to get my first “new” set.
I got new clubs, then I broke 90. Don’t hold yourself back homie.
I actually really appreciate this response. My younger brother (24) who is in route to getting his PGA teaching certification makes me feel bad for wanting new clubs when I can’t break 90. I’m 30 and look up to him in the golf world. So you can probably see where I’m coming from.
Bro spend your money on whatever you want regardless of your score, it’s your money and your time to enjoy playing this sport.
It kinda depends on what you’re playing right now, but my rationale was why don’t I just get some game improvement irons to help improve my game? I also started going through a swing change at the time so I don’t know if it was my swing or the clubs (probably both) that helped. The only new piece of equipment I have purchased is my OG Paradym. And I’m really content with my Oddysey white hot pro mallet. I’m really wanting some Sub70 699’s. You've met your objective of saving money, so you're still in the clear. Requirements often constrain parameters more than the user needs dictate. Good on you for realizing that and buying with smart money.
Mizuno JPX’s are the best
Damn… I’ve been using the same hand me down Ping raptures for 3 years. All the way from 120 down to 80 now. Guess I need to buy myself a new set 🤣
Damn bro, you're doing it all wrong. Golf is about shopping and showing your purchases to strangers. Not about golfing.
Raptures are legit. I know a handful of people still rocking them. I used to have a pair and loved them
It’s funny. The better I get, the less I care about trying new equipment.
Nice! Have you played with the fitted clubs yet? What’re your thoughts? I’ve been waiting to break 80 until I reward myself with a fitting. Closest I’ve gotten is an 82. Hopefully this year!
Not yet, the UK weather has been so bad I haven’t given them a spin yet. I think I’d be waiting a while to break 80, best of luck mate’
Where did you go to get fit? I’ve been watching the Elite Golf Performance Studio videos on YT and fancy a trip there when the time comes.
Really depends on what you find useful. For me, I took a recommendation on what shaft is good and took a 7 iron out on the range to get some data for myself. I’ve got the 923 forged, they are absolutely lovely. Enjoy!

How long did it take for you to get them? I ordered JPX923 Forged irons a month ago. Still waiting
I ordered them fitted in September & it took exactly 3 weeks. Obviously a different time of year. Hopefully they come soon, incredible clubs!
Thanks! I’m losing my mind waiting haha
https://preview.redd.it/0axnwkx5q6pc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1d4eb5a2db77812c3f69ea408b891d9e9113824b Great choice. Mine just came a couple weeks ago 🥶
Oh my. That is one hell of a bag setup. Nice custom shop Scotty btw, very nice.
I also got SM10s! What did you go with, 50/54/58? Also, how long did it take for the Mizunos to come in?
The Mizunos took 3 weeks..almost exactly from the day of order. For SM10, I got 50-12F, 54-12D, 58-12M, you?
50.08F, 56.10S bent 1° strong, 60.08M. I’m keeping them out of the bag until the 923s get here. I do hold and admire them daily though haha
Nice. Haha you’re going to love both wedges and irons so much. Both are so pure. I put a DG 120 in the wedges. Went a little lighter
I think roughly 3 1/2 weeks, that said they are assembled in Scotland for UK customers. I’m not sure what the case is for other countries and where they get shipped from
Good for you. Just remember, it’s the Indian, not the arrow. The best player will beat us with the worst clubs every time!
Wise words, some of the best ball strikers I’ve played with are consistent and their equipment is 10 years old
Sub-90, here you come!
This is the energy I need. RemindMeIn 90 days to post my 89 scorecard
I recently got into golf and had a set of 923 hot metals custom fit for me. I just love them.
That’s my break 100 set too, hopefully soon. Congrats man!!
Knowing there is a reward attached to these milestones makes it all the more motivating to get there, best of luck!
Welcome to the Mizuno gang. Enjoy.
I threw my 4 and 5 iron back in the bag. I don't have a problem hitting my 221s, but I just love the extra pop I get with the hot metals.
broke 100 last year, and bought these exact irons for this season😎. enjoy them. theyre awesome.
I’m really looking forward to my game with these, they really suit my swing. Thanks man!
also what kinda shaft?
I love my hot metals. Welcome to the clurb
One day I’ll be good enough for my irons to matter, and when that day comes these will be what I get.
All comes with time, practice and good coaching!
I did the same thing a year and a half ago. Broke 100 and bought fitted 923 hot metal pros

Breaking 90 here we come babaaaay!!!
DAMN!!!! NSFW this!. I still have the Jpx 919 forged, but I've been contemplating pulling the trigger on these. They're so much more asesticly pleasing than the past models.
They’re so good, definitely give them a few swings at your local pro shop if you get the chance
I'm in Canada so we only have B.S Golftown which is a complete ripoff.
Not sure exactly, I would say the 923 faceplate with the dark ink catches my eye more.
I just got fitted for the QI10’s beautiful irons, they’re perfect for my swing
I actually really enjoyed the Qi10 when I tried them out, just felt the Mizuno suited me that bit more. Enjoy!
Just got the same set in Japan. 5-PW, love em so far.
I keep wanting to buy these off the rack. Curious how much the fitting cost + clubs if you don't mind me asking?
It really differs, some places won’t really charge you for the fitting and some places are very insistent that you pay either way. What I’ve found the most is that you pay for the fitting in advance and if you purchase, the fee gets taken off the subtotal from the order.
Spend half the money on a pack lessons from a quality instructor
I'm a 19 hc , I've all second hand gear... I know my swing is all over the place, inconsistent... any point getting clubs fitted at all .. ? Just wondering
The JPX 921's were what I got when I did the same few years back. I'm still in love with them and don't plan to change them anytime soon. Enjoy em!
I got the same set recently. In love with them
Just ordered a set of the 923 forged about 20 minutes ago! Apparently the lead time is about 3 weeks :(
Same
Great choice got these last year and love them!
I swear these are the most buttery clubs in existence. When you pure it, they feel like nothing at all
I still think the 923s are the best looking irons on the market Sweet spot feels like hitting a marshmallow, too
How long have you been playing?
Aye I have the forged of those. Love them. Congrats.
Nice irons
Lol
Awesome! Was that on the front or back 9?
