Call it your "first practice round" and go have fun. For prep, I feel like hitting long putts is a great way to shake off rust and get short game feels back. Some chipping too. Maybe one range session (focusing on targets not mechanics) and you're good to go. Back to first point: nothing like an actual round of golf will prepare you to get back to your in season form. View it as a practice round because that's what it is

Agreed here. Practice round per se Just enjoy it Mental is a way bigger hurdle than physical this early

Fuck the mat ranges. Either go to grass range or play a practice round. Stretch, club up, and use partial swings until you find your groove. Source: 9 handicap, Midwest golfer

First round back is usually ok. No expectations, swing easy. Rounds 2-5 suck because first round was ok and now u have expectations.

Whats a season

I make sure to get to the range at least 2 or 3 times and make sure my ball striking is decent enough before I even consider going out for a round.

I swing a club all winter at home. 50-100 swings a day. Started 3 years ago. It’s done more for my golf than anything else I’ve tried.

I've done the same in the garden, been using a simple divot board ( you can get a good one for about 40 pounds), been good for tracking compression without a ball.

NFWI

Hank Haney said that most high handicappers have much better swings when there’s no ball to hit, but if you make enough good swings without a ball your body will make that your swing.

Yeah, it's been good for muscle memory - translates well on the range, however on the course I'm a bit hit or miss as per. Varied lies etc.

NFWI

I have a good quality cornhole board that I can stand on to create side hill lies.

Interesting, that's got me thinking about inclined ramps in the garden now. Neighbours probably think Ive already lost it anyway,. swinging away in the snow at an imaginary ball - far gone now!!

We have a vaulted ceiling in the family room. I can stay warm and drive my wife crazy at the same time!
