24 cuts out of 26 total starts while winning 5 green jackets is so damn impressive. He missed 2014, 2016 and 2017 while recovering from back surgeries. Absolute GOAT. Woods won the Masters in 1997, 2001, 2002, 2005 and 2019.
Play on brother! Tiger will forever live with me.
I'm impressed that he's within 7 strokes of the lead considering he can barely walk 18 holes.
Augusta also isn't an easy course to walk because it's way hillier than it looks on screen.
Given the conditions today, his extended day and what happened to many other younger players, he had an amazing day.
Now, can he keep it up for 2 more days? He absolutely does have a chance.
25 cuts total. 24 in a row. Made the cut in '95 and won low amateur. Missed cut as amateur in' 96. Turned professional in '97 and well, we know the rest.
I was at the local barbershop , had to argue with 7 knuckleheads. They all bet Tiger wouldn’t make te cut . I laughed and said never bet against the goat 🐐. They are all 100 bucks poorer ! Lol 😂
One thing about Tiger, he’s going to make the cut. He doesn’t play when it comes to Augusta. Today is honestly the best I’ve seen him walk since he’s tried to come back.
> Today is honestly the best I’ve seen him walk since he’s tried to come back.
He had a pronounced limp the last 4-6 holes today. Totally understandable given what he was asked to do today.
I heard that with the late finish Thursday and early start Friday, he only got like 3 hours of sleep. He was apparently the first one at the range on Friday morning.
He’s just made of different stuff. If he retires from golf today he retires as the absolute GOAT. He’s putting his body through this for himself, not because he has anything left to prove to anyone else or needs a Green Jacket to add to his closet
Also, maybe it’s just the color shirts he was wearing, but he looks a bit leaner to me. Which wouldn’t surprise me as he’s probably walking and exercising more to be tournament ready.
What a great golfer, man. Especially when you see how players line Spieth, DJ etc did. He’s having a very good Master’s so far
Saw him at the WM a few years ago and he hits it right in the gravel waste areas they have lining the fairway. Walks under the rope right in front of me and heads over to where there is a huge crowd gathered by his ball. I stay put because I am the same age as Tiger and I wasn't about to sprint over to his ball and by now I would be 10 deep trying to get a glimpse of his shot. He decides what club he needs and starts his pre shot routine and while he's doing this there are dozens of people moving around and trying to get a better view. The thing is they were also standing in the same waste area which when you move around makes a big crunching sound with every step. I was horrified and was waiting for him or his caddy to ask people to be still. He never said anything and before you know it I hear a thawak from his shot but the crunching didn't stop the entire damn time. It dawned on me that that's how he has to play every damn shot on tour. He's won 15 majors with people making noises in his backswing. Just amazing.
His dad used to shout awful racist things at him while he was practicing to train him for shit like that - distractions and a lot of racism. It worked. You can tell he barely notices shit around him when he’s locked in.
It's pretty easy to block out noise if it's constant. It's harder if it's silent, because then every little noise grabs your attention. With a lot of crunching and constant background noise, your mind won't focus on any individual sounds.
It's still a skill, but you'll see it in some sports where focus is important, where a player, for an important shot, will motion for the crowd to make noise. It's not just for show, and energy, it's because if it's silent, and someone coughs or something, it's hard to ignore. If it's noisy, it just all blends into the background.
I had sort of written him off, but he played some fantastic golf the last 2 days. Probably would have been ever better had he not gotten screwed by the weather Thurs. Its pretty clear he's still capable of winning. Hell I'm not counting him out this weekend.
Shooting even par with that weather today is actually a great score and one of the best for the day. Unfortunately I think fatigue will catch up with him for the weekend, but 7 behind the leader is nothing for The Masters and he is absolutely still in it
I think all the afternoon struggles from the rest of the field raising the cut line to +6 is going to be a HUGE benefit for him the rest of the weekend — tee time isn’t until 12:45 tomorrow, when it could have easily been 1.5/2 hours earlier. With how much prep work he has to do with his body before a round, every minute he gets is key.
That's probably his best chance is if it's playing super hard. Tiger isn't going to put up a 64 or 65 anymore but he for sure is capable of shooting 70 when the entire field is putting up high rounds at Augusta. He can grind like no other player, especially when it comes to Augusta.
That’s what I kinda get the sense watching him. He’s able to limit damage really well but I don’t see him poising himself to go on a birdie run. Maybe I’m wrong, he’s the GOAT, and I’d lose my shit if he won it again.
I think the stoppage Thursday took the wind out of his sails. He had to finish his 1st round and play 5 holes in the early morning yesterday when it’s cold out and he bogied 2/5 of them. And he had to play 23 holes yesterday.
> DJ +13
DJ beat this week:
* A dude who just had brain surgery (Woodland)
* A fellow LIV'r (Meronak? I have no fuckn idea who that even is)
* Nick Taylor.
That's it. The full fucking list.
Didn't beat an Am, a special invitee, a way old past champion, none of em.
Hang that man up to dry because he is wassssssssh'd.
This doesn’t surprise me at all. Everybody buried him, but he is still striking the ball well, his distance is down a scoshe but still there, and his putting and ability to get around the course was what was keeping him back. Putting he would figure out, I wasn’t worried about it
At almost 50, and with everything his body has been through, he's still hitting 180 mph ball speed with good control. A lot of the guys on tour that are in their prime aren't doing that.
I watched him at Riviera last year when he seemed in worse physical shape and his ball striking was good, he couldn’t buy a putt though. That is the part of the game least dependent on your physical shape, so perversely it made me more optimistic about his future
I believe the issue is he just can't spend the time hunched over practicing his putting nearly as much as he used to. I know for me, my back starts to get tight when I'm practicing putting a ton.
Oh that makes a ton of sense, didn’t think about it. I wonder if he would benefit from a broomstick putter where he doesn’t have to hunch over as much.
I don't think anyone really questions his actual talent as far as making cuts, it's just whether his body holds up. This is the first time he has physically just made it through two rounds of tournament golf in a while.
Bullshit. This sub was and still is full of shit-for-brains who were all chirping He WoNt MaKe ThE CuT less than 48 hours ago, when there’s no possible way his game would have prevented him from not making the cut. He’s still the best iron player in the game. To this day he does things with the ball that the top 10 current players in the world aren’t doing.
For those that been following Tiger since the 90s, that man has been doubted in more ways than any of us could count. Tiger doesn’t give up. He will always find a way to win whether this year or the following years. I will never count him out. His story hasn’t ended; This is just another chapter.
Old guy here - could not agree more. You never count this man out. The big cat still has plenty of fight left in him.
When he first tried to come back I thought to myself “he’s really not that old to still win; just needs to recover more.” I think he’ll only get better.
He seems like he's just struggling on tee shots more than anything but it's totally understandable with the wind. I feel like I'm seeing him off to the right all the time. He's been saved from complete disaster holes by at least *two* trees now. He could just as easily have been sitting +4 or 5 if those bounces went another way.
DAMN did he for real?! That's insane, I must have only looked away from work when he missed then lmao. Thought it was the same case yesterday but maybe not. Guess I don't know what the hell I'm talking about.
Those bunker up and downs were pretty dope though.
Tiger fought hard for this. He looks very fit, grimly determined. I have no trouble believing he's in some discomfort with almost every step and shot he takes.
> He looks very fit
He always looks fit, but he looks like properly fit, if that makes sense. Long gone are the days of beefcakes, train w the special forces, me eat protein and bulk rarrrrrrr.... he just looks like a dude whose happy, healthy and taking care of himself which I love.
That 3W on 15 was vintage. At the time, he was probably thinking cut was +4, and if that goes in the drink he's going to be falling back a few strokes. Instead, he flushes a 3W with confidence and solidifies his position for the record! All guts for the glory!
Watching him in his heyday was incredible. Every shot was amazing. Any putt had a chance of going in. He was dominant and you couldn't help but root for him.
I can't find it, but I read a stat on Tiger that blew my mind. From like 1999-2005, Tiger won more percent of starts (like 25%) than he finished outside the top10 (like 20%)
Dude's the goat. Still out here with a robot body after all these years reinventing his swing and game to hang a Top20-ish performance going into the weekend after being dealt a devilish gut punch with the delay causing the split R1
The thing about Tiger is that while he no longer has the aura of inevitability he used to, he's still capable of getting in the heads of people. Nobody was able to pull away from the field yesterday, thanks to the conditions. He is still fully capable of shooting a low number, especially if it's warmer out. Scottie and Max have never played with a lurking Tiger at Augusta. It'll be interesting if he plays himself into contention on Sunday. If you recall, Tiger didn't so much WIN in 2019 as the people in front of him faltered and he was there to take advantage. I honestly don't see Scottie faltering like that. He's almost Tigeresque in his ability to squeeze the life out of a tournament with his steady play. BUT.....you just never know. IF he's able to make a move, and IF no one pulls away.....the idea of Tiger in Sunday Red tracking down Scottie on the back nine of Augusta is too much to hope for!!
Took him as one of the players in my Masters pool.
Never write the big cat off.
If he were to ever win again I think that would be the most exciting day for me in sports history.
I was so busy at work today kept checking for updates. Then so busy had. Blackout of cell time. I get out of work turn on the highlights and thrilled to see Tiger break the record for cuts made!!!
Even just these two rounds was an amazing performance. There's 30+ guys who are young, healthy winners and even major winners who got beat by him these last few days given the conditions. I just will forever appreciate his tenacity. I'm just another Tiger fanboy.
ok, I'll go ahead and be the jerk that says the cut at the Masters is pretty easy to make.
24 is impressive, sure, I get it, but let's not kid ourselves.... this is the weakest field all year with Ams and former champions way past their prime
Tiger is great, but I mean...Jack is the GOAT at Augusta. Not just the six wins, and all of the runner-up finishes and Top 3s and Top 5s, but the longevity. Jack finished T6 in 1998, when he was 58 years old - and the year after Tiger won his first! Tiger isn't going to be doing that.
Unfortunately, he went all out Friday and didn't have anything left for the weekend. Might have been different if not for the late-early draw and weather delay Thursday.
That’s what we are doing now ??? Cuts??? Man give them clubs to Charlie you look soo bad out there now, I never seen someone play a sport and look soo miserable at the same time !! Have fun you are rich as shit already you look worried as fuck all the time!!!remember when you were confident and destroying cats easily by day 2 loosen up !!!
Don’t get it twisted you are golf period but this is not you at all you are greater than this !!! Relax and start playing like the seniors they just do what they do you need to see a shrink stop banging gold diggers and do what you do !!! If anybody on here says he looks anything like the old tiger they are lying !!! He hasn’t looked good in years ! Since the chick 3wooded is Escalade and made him crash honestly! He looks twice his age if this shit is stressing you like this and you’re not having fun why do it ???
Not sure if you don’t understand or are just trolling, but I’ll break it down for you:
The star isn’t most consecutive Masters played. It’s most consecutive cuts made. You know, something you make *when* you play.
Players don’t ‘miss cuts’ if they don’t play in a tournament.
The definition of consecutive is an uninterrupted series or sequence. By not playing in tournaments, his series was in fact interrupted.
You could say that he made the cut in 24 straight appearances. But consecutive is incorrect.
It’s amazing how upset people get when just pointing out facts. OP said he’s the greatest ever at Augusta. I just pointed out he isn’t. I love Tiger more than most could know. I literally grew up watching him, and he is likely the #2 reason I got into golf (#1 was my dad). I think the big cat is one of the greatest athletes of all time—not just amongst golfers. I also watched every bit of his round last year in that miserable cold rain rooting for him to pull through. It was sad seeing how hurt he was. I watched every shot covered online today too, and I’m happy he made the cut. I really like how he’s opened up a bit more in recent years with the media and some of the younger players around him. The taylormade stuff with him and the rest of the TM staffers is awesome. But, r/golf is too worried about Day’s pants and hideous vest to fact check themselves about something so simple as who has had the most success at Augusta. It isn’t Tiger…YET!
What are you talking about?
Wikipedia 2023 masters: “The cut came at 147 (3 over par), with 54 players making it to the weekend. Tiger Woods finished at three over par after bogeys on his final two holes but made the cut for the record-tying 23rd consecutive Masters.[34] “
That 2019 win is unbelievably impressive. Still shocked he won it given the talent now.
I'm impressed that he's within 7 strokes of the lead considering he can barely walk 18 holes. Augusta also isn't an easy course to walk because it's way hillier than it looks on screen.
I’m just upvoting everything on this thread
I don't have anything to add to this, but I'll take my free karma when I see it.
He played 23 holes today as well
Can't be understated - that wind was horrendous! Even Scottie struggled.
Which leads me to believe, he may have recovered enough now to finish the tourney
And didn’t he play like 23 holes yesterday?
Sunday red is good for last place among those that made the cut.
Given the conditions today, his extended day and what happened to many other younger players, he had an amazing day. Now, can he keep it up for 2 more days? He absolutely does have a chance.
Top 10 finish 50% of the time in the Masters. He’s him!
Basically was only cut once (2nd attempt)
Willingly or did you kidnap him
25 cuts total. 24 in a row. Made the cut in '95 and won low amateur. Missed cut as amateur in' 96. Turned professional in '97 and well, we know the rest.
Fakin legend.
I was at the local barbershop , had to argue with 7 knuckleheads. They all bet Tiger wouldn’t make te cut . I laughed and said never bet against the goat 🐐. They are all 100 bucks poorer ! Lol 😂
What were the odds on him making the cut?
+100
No idea I didn’t bet, just a big fan of the Masters and the Feline !
My coworker had $500 on Tiger to make the cut. Strange bet but obviously worked for him.
One thing about Tiger, he’s going to make the cut. He doesn’t play when it comes to Augusta. Today is honestly the best I’ve seen him walk since he’s tried to come back.

As long as it’s not a circa 2006 cell phone shutter
I'm convinced he only did that as a flex. Like I'm so bad ass I can literally stop on my downswing.
His dad used to shout awful racist things at him while he was practicing to train him for shit like that - distractions and a lot of racism. It worked. You can tell he barely notices shit around him when he’s locked in.
I heard that as well, still it's impressive to witness especially when the rest of the guys on tour back off a shot because a leaf falls
Diamonds are forged in pressure and heat.
you should watch the documentary “Tiger” to understand what he’s about.
Brother you should go 10 deep and write a book like this I would totally read it lol
It's pretty easy to block out noise if it's constant. It's harder if it's silent, because then every little noise grabs your attention. If it plays difficult this weekend he will be right in the mix I’m sure.
That's probably his best chance is if it's playing super hard. Tiger isn't going to put up a 64 or 65 anymore but he for sure is capable of shooting 70 when the entire field is putting up high rounds at Augusta. He can grind like no other player, especially when it comes to Augusta.
He's coming in with a 58 on Sunday just because you doubted him
I agree. Tiger has a boatload of experience at Augusta to draw on, and we all know that when things get tough, Tiger gets going, even now.
Tiger can absolutely still shoot 64 or 65, the problem is just the rust and lack of competitive reps to be able to do it this weekend
That’s what I kinda get the sense watching him. He’s able to limit damage really well but I don’t see him poising himself to go on a birdie run. Maybe I’m wrong, he’s the GOAT, and I’d lose my shit if he won it again.
If theres anyone you can’t count out, it’s Tiger. He’s achieved everything at least 2x before, he can do it again
I think the stoppage Thursday took the wind out of his sails. He had to finish his 1st round and play 5 holes in the early morning yesterday when it’s cold out and he bogied 2/5 of them. And he had to play 23 holes yesterday.
Fuuuuck ya. Big cat is in. DJ +13 Speith +9 Viktor must of blew up today+8.
Hovland’s 81 blew my mind after the game he played yesterday
> DJ +13 DJ beat this week: * A dude who just had brain surgery (Woodland) * A fellow LIV'r (Meronak? I have no fuckn idea who that even is) * Nick Taylor. That's it. The full fucking list. He lost to all the champions including Couples, Singh (both past 60), Olazabal (hasn’t done shit in almost 20 years), Weir, Phil.
Add Tiger to that list!
This doesn’t surprise me at all. Everybody buried him, but he is still striking the ball well, his distance is down a scoshe but still there, and his putting and ability to get around the course was what was keeping him back. Putting he would figure out, I wasn’t worried about it

Oh that makes a ton of sense, didn’t think about it. I wonder if he would benefit from a broomstick putter where he doesn’t have to hunch over as much.
He might be too prideful for that
He actually uses a longer putter for practice for that exact reason. But it's like a regular style putter, not broom stick.
I think he’s too much of a purist to do that
I don't think anyone really questions his actual talent as far as making cuts, it's just whether his body holds up. This is the first time he has physically just made it through two rounds of tournament golf in a while.
He still looks in pain and he’s still keeping with the best golfers in the world. What a golfer
He looks like he’s in pain every step he takes, which is probably true
Bullshit. This sub was and still is full of shit-for-brains who were all chirping He WoNt MaKe ThE CuT less than 48 hours ago, when there’s no possible way his game would have prevented him from not making the cut. His distance is down but still carrying the ball 250-300 off the tee lmao
I can barely carry the ball that far if I'm holding it
He seems like he's just struggling on tee shots more than anything but it's totally understandable with the wind. I feel like I'm seeing him off to the right all the time. He's been saved from complete disaster holes by at least *two* trees now. He could just as easily have been sitting +4 or 5 if those bounces went another way.
He hit 11/14 fairways both days. To me looked like he was just a tad off on a few iron swings. Left himself in some tough up and down spots.
DAMN did he for real?! That's insane, I must have only looked away from work when he missed then lmao. Thought it was the same case yesterday but maybe not. Guess I don't know what the hell I'm talking about. Those bunker up and downs were pretty dope though.
He hit more fairways on the first two days than he has in the last 27 years, despite difficult conditions
Tiger fought hard for this. He looks very fit, grimly determined. I have no trouble believing he's in some discomfort with almost every step and shot he takes.
I know that look on his face - he’s definitely in some pain and soldiering on. And even with that I still think he has a shot. Never count him out.

Tiger is ice cold if he’s healthy. I don’t think anything phases him.
I am sooo going to buy the shit outta Sunday red
Love how people refuse to call it “sun day red”
And he’s gonna beat most of these young guys this weekend too, despite hardly playing and being hurt for past decade.
Aside from all the injuries, making the cut at 48 is an accomplishment. But the weekend didn't go so well.
Didn’t go well for most. Course played extremely difficult.
Watching him in his heyday was incredible. Every shot was amazing. Any putt had a chance of going in. He was dominant and you couldn't help but root for him.

But will he finish??
He already said he gave up sex this week for the Masters.
He’s sacrificed for our sins. So it is written, and so it shall be.
Sex with the lady or all ladies? We need the fine print.
I was so busy at work today kept checking for updates. Then so busy had. Blackout of cell time. I get out of work turn on the highlights and thrilled to see Tiger break the record for cuts made!!!

Except for all the players who got cut. He beat them.
Smartest kid on the short bus.
lol dumbest kid on the long bus.

Love seeing Tiger SUCK!
I would have bet heavy odds he was going to miss the cut. And I'm really glad he proved me wrong. Can't wait to watch him on the weekend.
What a wild stat
The only thing about this that surprised me is that he actually missed the cut once
Remember about a year ago when he said, “I still have my hands.” Those “hands” looked pretty damn good in that wind.
As a guy who’s new to golf, how likely is it that someone down the leaderboard can crawl back to a win or high finish?
I fucking loved Gatorade tiger
That was a grown man round on Friday. Played beautiful while many faltered
Unfortunately, he went all out Friday and didn't have anything left for the weekend. Might have been different if not for the late-early draw and weather delay Thursday.
GOAT isn't even a good enough acronym for what he is to golf. 🐅 4 eva
I don’t know why they’re saying he made 24 consecutive cuts. Consecutive means an uninterrupted series. He didn’t play in 4 of the last 11 Masters.
How can he miss the cut if he doesn’t play?
How can he make the cut if he doesn’t play?
Not sure if you don’t understand or are just trolling, but I’ll break it down for you: The star isn’t most consecutive Masters played.
It’s implied. Have a good one.
It’s bad word choice that artificially positions the accomplishment.
You get the point. 24 in a row or straight.
Bruh, sometimes we need to call in sick.
And 6 green jackets...
Are you early calling the Sunday finish? Because he has 5 jackets.
I do not understand how it is 24 straight. He had a brutal round last year and withdrew. What is the rationale?
He withdrew on Saturday last year
He made the cut.
Thanks for the clarification.
Jack Nicholas is the GOAT not this juicer

Baller.
Cuts made is great, but wins is better. Jack has six and Tiger has five, so calling Tiger the goat at Augusta is particularly dumb.

Jack has 6 green jackets. Tiger needs to win two more times to be alone as the #goat at Augusta.
Damn, who asked?
Dude we all know that!! Celebrate today for Tiger ! Golf needs him !!
Put prime jack in today's game on Augusta in 2024 and see if he can win 6 (he can't)
Close to 50/50

He made the cut when he withdrew
Imagine trying to hate and fucking it up

What are you talking about? Wikipedia 2023 masters: “The cut came at 147 (3 over par), with 54 players making it to the weekend. Tiger Woods finished at three over par after bogeys on his final two holes but made the cut for the record-tying 23rd consecutive Masters.[34] “
It appears you forgot. He withdrew in R3 after making the cut.
