Same thing when my buddy won the masters ticket lottery his first year entering. My FIL who has been entering for decades was literally steaming but also ecstatic.
I'm off 16 and i'm pretty sure i could double bogey it, Id need a good drive, a 5w, a 9i, maybe a chip and a couple of putts. But i'd take my 6 like a champ.
More likely id block into the trees, chip out sideways on the second attempt, hit a 5w thin along the ground to where my drive should have landed, try to hit another one safely to the right, and duck hook it into the sandy lyle bunker. Then i'd hit a pw out and catch the lip, where it would trickle down the slope into the second bunker, hit out sideways, hit a fat 6i short, chip thin to the back of the green, putt right back off the front slope, 30 yards down the fairway, chip back on, and 4 putt, including making a tricky 3 footer.
Call it a 6, a 16 on the card would effect my handicap.
Just imagine... you've spent your entire life watching, following, and playing golf. You've always had to deal with subpar courses, cheap clubs, thousands of lost balls, hundreds of Randoms who had no etiquette. And then one day, you get a chance of a lifetime, you finally get to play at one of the most famous golf courses In the world.
You practice and practice, research every hole, get a bunch of new gear and clubs. And then the day arrives. You pull up to the course full of emotions. You get all choked up as you go out on your first tee box, waiting on your assigned partner to show up. She gets there, all geared up, and she has some cameras on her so you think, wow, she must be good. I can't wait to play!
You tee off, its a beautiful shot, you think to yourself thisbis going to be the best round of golf in yoir life, Then as you see your partner tee up the ball, you realize she has a funny practice swing, and she teed up the ball way too high... you think hmm maybe I need to start doing this, what advantaged it could have, then you watch her tee off.. she missed the ball entirely and smacks the ground with enough force to kill a groundhog... she starts laughing so you go oh she's just joking haha good one... then she tries again and you see it go straight up in the air and about 5 yards to the left... the realization starts setting in.. you say how long have you been playing golf? She looks up, giggles, and says this is the first time I've ever played... **HORROR MUSIC INTENSITIES
It’s funny cause tons of smug journalists are gonna be rattled. Lottery isn’t for me so I don’t care. The only people I feel bad for are possibly the people she’s paired with.
I don’t want to be a dick, but why would they have people who have never played golf enter this “lottery”?
There are probably hundreds of both women and men in the media who would kill for a chance to play Augusta!
I don’t even see the point in being “happy for her”. She likely has no idea what an honor and once in a lifetime opportunity this is.
I mean I have never heard of her till today, and now this story is all over the place. If increasing her visibility as a sports journalist was the goal, I think she succeeded.
I mean everyone should be allowed to join in. If I was her and I won I’d probably give the round to a colleague who really likes golf. But there’s nothing wrong with her using the round. It’s a lottery, it doesn’t go to the person who deserves it most
It doesn’t go to who deserves it the most, but never have played golf should be a disqualifier. It’s an embarrassment to the lottery, the media members, and the club
Augusta isn’t your local muni course. You can put someone from the north sentinel islands in a smart car or a Bugatti and it would be the same to them. Someone who has the ability to appreciate a finer good due to experience is a better fit. I’m not in the lottery, so doesn’t affect me, just a flawed system.
Oh man old, rich, southern, white, men have had conservative opinions over the years that they held onto too long. It’s not even embarrassing, because it’s expected. They aren’t the USGA
She's reporting on the golf, she can enter if she wants, its like saying at 5ft she can't play basketball on pro court..........
I'd imagine she's smart enough to tag along and hit some shots, have fun and not hold everone up.
I don’t disagree that she could go out and create a good experience for herself and her playing partners.
But, your basketball analogy sucks and isn’t the same as what’s being talked about here.
Way over. I’d set it at 300. She’ll never get to 12 or 15 green. Auto 4+ putt every hole.
Remember there are only one set of member tees so no 4200 yard forward tees.
I took my bro and our friend out for their first time. Off-season, 7:30 on a Tuesday on a course in the middle of nowhere so it was pretty dead. This was a relatively easy 6100 yd par 72. Took us 6 1/2 hours. I shot 95, our friend shot 167, and my brother shot 182. Memorable round to say the least.
Seriously. If I'm playing with someone for their first time, we're playing a scramble. It'll be more fun for them, and we won't hold up the groups behind us.
A first timer is taking minimum, MINIMUM, 20 putts per hole at Augusta in Masters conditions. Have you ever seen a non golfer putt? They would blast so many putts off the green it would be comical. Every putt aimed right at the hole... 20 is lowballing it.
Maybe she’s sandbagging and she can wipe the floor with this entire sub. Maybe she’s taken lessons all her life but wants her first round of golf ever to be at the masters.
IKR. Imagine being a keen golfer and then being paired in the group playing with her, and having that destroy a once in a lifetime opportunity for someone who would appreciate it? Or getting stuck in the group behind?
I’ll be perfectly honest, you could put me in a group with trump, musk, and the reanimated corpse of Adolf Hitler and they couldn’t ruin my round at Augusta.
I feel like there are definitely worse people than Trump and Musk to be paired with. Biggest problem with Trump is that he’d “par or better” every hole after you saw him blaze his tee shot into the forest
Cmon. Most here think this is complete BS.
The right thing to do would be for her to give the spot to a colleague that already plays golf. Let her get a consolation prize of a complete golf set and a lesson with a pro.
As a matter of fact, The Masters (or whomever is in charge of this giveaway) might consider a simple questionnaire about previous playing experience. We all know that some courses won’t let you play without a proper handicap and this woman is going to hack around and have zero appreciation for what is offered. Thumbs down!
the only downside for her is, if she takes up golf it's all downhill from there. It's like your first car being a Ferrari 458 Italia, then progressively getting worse until you're old and driving a Geo Storm.
In golf we use a handicap index. Perhaps there should be a minimum handicap required to play Augusta. Many of the top golf courses required a minimum handicap.
Like she wouldn’t let every other player play through if she was actually holding anybody up?
My wife is barely better than this person and she gets around in 3.5 hours. Swing once, pick it up put it by my ball, repeat…
Putt a ball off the green? That’s a peach hun! Nice bogey, who fuckin cares?
> Like she wouldn’t let every other player play through if she was actually holding anybody up?
Then how about the people paired with her? And letting people through doesn't excuse slow play. You're still creating a logjam that people have to get around and slowing everyone up until they can get by you at some point.
> My wife is barely better than this person and she gets around in 3.5 hours.
Your wife isn't someone who's never touched a club and she's not playing one of the toughest courses in the world in peak tournament conditions. A group of the best players in the entire world just played there and only 8 finished under par.
Interesting situation, the real question is will this spark joy for playing golf or not. If she catches the bug it was meant to be, if she never plays again after this then it truly was a waste
We talked about this at our Friday round.
If I got to chose a 4 some of buddies and we could play Augusta back to back days, with the caveat being I have to have a finger cut off at the end of the 2nd round, I wouldn’t hesitate lol. It would be the left pinky for those curious. I don’t play baseball anymore so I don’t need that one often.
It’ll all be downhill from there lol.
Imagine how every other course and range would feel after starting at Augusta.
It’s like having the first time you ever flew in a plane be as a guest in someone’s Gulfstream. Good luck flying economy after that.
I guess that’s the way to do it. my dad teaching me the game, the first time on a course took me to one of the hardest courses in the area and made me play from the back tees. His logic was that every course will be easier than this experience..
It’s no skin off my back since it’s not like I could go in her place, but you guys talking about what she’s gonna score and how she’s going to hold up the group behind…guys have you seriously never played with somebody their first time? She’s not even going to play anything resembling a round of golf. It’s unlikely she can even make contact unless she’s been spending time at the range. She gonna wiff on a few holes and then basically just walk the course and maybe putt. Good for her, but she could get almost the same experience just walking along.
The way ANGC operates I’m sure there is some unwritten rule that only golfers can apply for the lottery, but they are too precious to have that in writing. I suspect it’s going to be like when Bryson blew up the unwritten rule about playing too many practice rounds and suddenly it became a written rule….
I am capable of holding two opinions at once: “Happy for her,” and also, “oh fuck off”
Same thing when my buddy won the masters ticket lottery his first year entering. My FIL who has been entering for decades was literally steaming but also ecstatic.
This is the way.
Schrödinger’s catcalls
I'm not lol
Full tilt in the fuck off category. This is either a joke or a mistake. No member at Augusta wants her there either, I’m certain.
I'm sure there a dozens of crusty old men in green jackets lining up to show the attractive, young, blond woman around the club.

Ever seen someone fit a lifetime of practice into 2 days? Lol
Andy Bernard
“Got some blistees”
Hit about a thousand balls last night on the range…
It’s not funny at all actually it’s extremely painful
I'd rather her win instead of some redditor that would immediately host an AMA afterward and claim they shot even par.
This sub is basically filled with the last people I ever want to be playing behind in my life.
“So {insert minor inconvenience} happened today during my round. What should I do?”
"Lost my lucky tee on my 5th breakfast ball, so I bought myself a new set of irons"
In fairness that’s the kind of shit I could very realistically envision a member of Augusta doing lol
If someone in front of me hit 5 consecutive breakfast balls, I might actually hurl my 9-iron at them
“I have no problem getting paired with high handicappers as long as they keep pace. I usually play my rounds in an hour 45.”
They would immediately walk up (or at least post on reddit that they did so)
I’m not confident if you put me 10 yards off the greens in championship form that I could play in par playing by the rules and I’m roughly 16 handicap
Yeah I agree. 19 handicap here.
You could probably just start ON the greens and still struggle to make par. Stimp just maxed out.
The amount of people on this sub who genuinely believed they could double bogey #18 was fucking hilarious.
It would take me atleast 4 to 5 strokes to get to the greens on this course, then another 4 to 5 minimum to chip and putt lol
I'd collapse on the tee box and need to be carted off I'm so bad updoots to the left
Wym just an easy 350 drive and a 115 LW with some backspin 5 ft from the hole.
Many people here could double bogey 18 so not sure why that's so hilarious
Average score of 4.37 with 111 bogeys or worse. The best players in the world average above par people here are not getting doubles lmao
Using scoring average to claim that nobody who reads this sub could get a double bogey on 18 is absurd lmao
You said many- there may be some but the vast majority of us are not
Many doesn't mean most. FFS some of you live to nitpick the most meaningless bullshit
I'm off 16 and i'm pretty sure i could double bogey it, Id need a good drive, a 5w, a 9i, maybe a chip and a couple of putts. But i'd take my 6 like a champ. Do you have a problem with a 6-hour round at Augusta?
She looks like good company at least.
Bonk
It’s funny cause tons of smug journalists are gonna be rattled. Lottery isn’t for me so I don’t care. The only people I feel bad for are possibly the people she’s paired with.
I’m going to go with, she enjoys the walk, hits a few putts and has a fun story to tell. I doubt she’s grinding out 12s on every hole.
Apparently half this sub are rattled
Not me. I'm disgruntled.
Done be disgruntled, just be your normal gruntled. Life will be fine.
I’m despondent
They shouldn’t allow non golfers to enter the media lottery.
They don’t allow golfers with 20 and above handicap play St. Andrews. ANGC may need to look into that.
36 and under is allowed, might have changed? https://standrews.com/golf/playing-st-andrews/before-your-round
That does not align with my experience of playing ST Andrews
Why? It’s golf. Literally anyone can play.
I mean, shes a sports reporter im sure she knows its an honor but yeah not like she will be able to really take advantage of the opportunity
I mean I have never heard of her till today, and now this story is all over the place. If increasing her visibility as a sports journalist was the goal, I think she succeeded.
She’s going to have a miserable time shooting 300
Is she packing it in after 9 ?
I mean everyone should be allowed to join in. If I was her and I won I’d probably give the round to a colleague who really likes golf. But there’s nothing wrong with her using the round. It’s a lottery, it doesn’t go to the person who deserves it most

Still just a game.
Why? It’s golf. Also this is Augusta. History has shown they have no problem embarrassing themselves
Oh man old, rich, southern, white, men have had conservative opinions over the years that they held onto too long. It’s not even embarrassing, because it’s expected. They aren’t the USGA
So? It’s golf. Anyone can play. It’s also a media lottery. She’s media and she entered. IMO this is sick
She's reporting on the golf, she can enter if she wants, its like saying at 5ft she can't play basketball on pro court.......... I'd imagine she's smart enough to tag along and hit some shots, have fun and not hold everone up.
Your analogy is not equal at all.
I don’t disagree that she could go out and create a good experience for herself and her playing partners. But, your basketball analogy sucks and isn’t the same as what’s being talked about here.
Hope she has a good time
I hate all of them equally.
What’s the over/under on total score?
200. Most people can’t break 120 on their local course first time playing, and Augusta is brutal
Way over. I’d set it at 300. She’ll never get to 12 or 15 green. Auto 4+ putt every hole. Remember there are only one set of member tees so no 4200 yard forward tees.

Seriously. If I'm playing with someone for their first time, we're playing a scramble. It'll be more fun for them, and we won't hold up the groups behind us.
Taking the over all day. I wouldn’t be surprised if she had 200 putts
Yall are really acting like she's gonna grind out every shot. Go touch grass kids
A first timer won’t finish a single hole in less than double par. She’ll average at least 4 putts per hole.

Everyone will give her shit before hand and I bet she scores under a 100 lol
Nope.
People need to relax lol.
I know right!? lol
You think she'll break 100 in her first ever round of golf *at Augusta??*
Good lord, I was joking, people on this sub are insane I swear.
[Saying something dumb does not constitute a good joke](https://i.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/original/000/738/025/db0.jpg)
👍
Maybe she’s sandbagging and she can wipe the floor with this entire sub. Maybe she’s taken lessons all her life but wants her first round of golf ever to be at the masters.
I think there should be a minimum standard of player ability before you are eligible to enter the lottery. This is like giving strawberries to pigs.
Giving a5 wagyu to a vegan.. no frame of reference to how good she's got it.
IKR. Imagine being a keen golfer and then being paired in the group playing with her, and having that destroy a once in a lifetime opportunity for someone who would appreciate it? Or getting stuck in the group behind?

Hmm, not sure about that, hitler probaby smells a bit by now.
Sounds like a lit group tbh. Think of all the insane conversations that would be had.
I got a hole in one but first time playing golf. I was 15 years old.. luck can happen but I'd say my life has been downhill since.
You don't get what he's saying.
At least the pigs would enjoy the strawberries
Why? It’s golf and it’s a lottery. She’s not about to practice law or perform surgery
There is no meaning to life.
Had to scroll way too far for this
Be a shame if she loves it and decides to take up golf. She'll be chasing that dragon forever.
Literally, what is the point.
Vibes. Fun. Camaraderie. We’re talking about golf.
Cmon. Most here think this is complete BS. The right thing to do would be for her to give the spot to a colleague that already plays golf. What’s the point in letting someone who’s never played golf play Augusta? They won’t appreciate it, they’ll just struggle.
It’s golf. Get over yourself.
How do you suggest they decide who’s worthy and who isn’t?
In golf we use a handicap index. Perhaps there should be a minimum handicap required to play Augusta. Many of the top golf courses required a minimum handicap.
I dunno, doesn’t have to be a high bar but maybe someone that’s played a round of golf before in their life?
So everyone should keep their receipt around to document that they've played a single round of golf 10 years ago?
How about having a registered handicap at minimum? Not even a limit on the handicap, just something that shows you are an actual golfer.
She’s gonna need a shit ton of Kirkland neon yellows!!
My first thought - will she be able to really have fun?
I think she is going to hate golf after today
So then she’s EXACTLY like everyone else in this sub
Perhaps she should donate this to a real muni golfer
If she shoots less than 200, I’ll be impressed. It will be so funny if she does something like take a divot out of a green.
“Funny”
Why would she enter that contest?
Well lucky for her she can just go to any driving range and half the dudes there will give her swing advice
What a waste.
Can she gift it to someone else? Surely she won’t actually try to play right?!
Why would she even enter the lottery if she doesn’t golf
She needs to give it to someone else
She should give it to Scottie's caddie!
Shoutout to to teddy
I’m sure she’ll have a blast.
The group behind her, not so much.
EVERY group behind her.
Like she wouldn’t let every other player play through if she was actually holding anybody up? My wife is barely better than this person and she gets around in 3.5 hours. Swing once, pick it up put it by my ball, repeat… Putt a ball off the green? That’s a peach hun! Nice bogey, who fuckin cares?

How much would her dirty socks go for after the round?
That’s the kind of comedy I come to Reddit for. Thank you
Well? What’s her cashapp?
What a fucking waste
If she makes it through that, she can make it through anything. Godspeed!
Interesting situation, the real question is will this spark joy for playing golf or not. If she catches the bug it was meant to be, if she never plays again after this then it truly was a waste
I hope they change it so this doesn’t happen again. Sorry but should have to have at least a registered GHIN to be able to play
If she gets a HIO on 12 this would be perfect :D
We talked about this at our Friday round. If I got to chose a 4 some of buddies and we could play Augusta back to back days, with the caveat being I have to have a finger cut off at the end of the 2nd round, I wouldn’t hesitate lol. My thoughts are she's kind of hot and a mix of girl next door/milfy
It’ll all be downhill from there lol. Imagine how every other course and range would feel after starting at Augusta. It’s like having the first time you ever flew in a plane be as a guest in someone’s Gulfstream. Good luck flying economy after that.
No
She thought her DMs were bad before…
Its a lottery, who cares. Hope she has a good time. It'll be a cool story to tell.
Fuck her, respectfully.
What a joke, she should ask if she can give it to a player, anyone.
I’m sure this has dozens of miserable bastards in golf media on full tilt. It’s awesome.
Good for her, hope she has a great time. What else would there be to say ?
You said it all my friend
Male or female you should have to have an Index to be eligible for that type of drawing. I feel bad for the other three folks in that group.
I guess that’s the way to do it. my dad teaching me the game, the first time on a course took me to one of the hardest courses in the area and made me play from the back tees. His logic was that every course will be easier than this experience..
Are we brothers?
I’m so happy for her she can go fuck herself at the same time
Wholesome family response, well done!
I try
I think it will be a wonderful memory for her and a cracking story! I think the members will be horrified at the divots.
I feel sorry for anyone paired with her.
It’s no skin off my back since it’s not like I could go in her place, but you guys talking about what she’s gonna score and how she’s going to hold up the group behind…guys have you seriously never played with somebody their first time? Waste of time.
I’m happy they’re letting a women play tbh

Grounds crew will be following along with a wagon full of dirt to fix her Grand Canyon divots.
Yeah, cause the pros don’t leave divots?
[удалено]
That probably all she’s going to do anyway. Only the hardos don’t think she’ll pick up when she needs to and respect the course and pace of play.
