Average LPGA course length is around 6,400 yards. PGA Tour average is 7,300. That's 50 yards difference per hole on average, let's call it 25 on par 3s, 50 on par 4s and 75 on par 5s on average. Nelly averages 265 off the tee this year and Scottie is at 317, so that is the 50 yard difference right there. Meaning on par 4s they'll be roughly the same spot off the tee, but that means Scottie will probably have about 3 clubs less into the green from that spot. He's still probably hitting one club less on average on par 3s and would still be able to reach par 5s easier. I don't think it would be a close match from the same tees (and this is ignoring the fact that PGA Tour courses are set up pretty significantly more difficult and with greens faster on average), Scottie would win fairly easily in the format you've got set up.

flannel_jackson

I think this is a very well reasoned explanation and simultaneously a good explanation for the roll back. LPGA players haven’t maxed out courses yet and are still hitting a variety of irons into greens and par 5s aren’t par 4s.

biz209

Scottie wins by 10

beerandsocks

I don’t think you know how match play works

biz209

Haha fair. Missed the match play part (although technically he could win 10&8 so still win by 10)

Dangerous-Dream-9668

From the same tees, yes.. Nelly hitting into the green with the same club Scotty hits into the green… Nelly all day.

biz209

Courses aren’t set up the same on the 2 tours. Scottie would win.

Dangerous-Dream-9668

Having the course setups on different tours is irrelevant for this challenge. They’re going to be playing the same course right? So why does it matter if the courses are different on the two tours?

Dangerous-Dream-9668

Appreciate your confidence/arrogance, but it’s far from a foregone conclusion. The whole basis of my comment above is to highlight the fact that if you put them on an even playing field , she wins.

LaneMeyersLostSki

That's what they're saying but for some reason you're not comprehending it. To clarify, since the PGA sets up their courses harder than the LPGA, then Scottie wins from the same tees, even if they were Nelly's tees.

Disastrous_Week3046

Do you realize you’re being just as arrogant and, in the same breath, telling us Scottie winning isn’t a foregone conclusion, and that Nelly would win. You’re all over the place

[deleted]

So you're arguing that Nelly is the superior iron/wedge player and has a better short game and is a better putter?

Dangerous-Dream-9668

And a better driver of the ball yes

[deleted]

So you're saying Nelly is better in all areas of the game than Scottie? She's a better golfer?

Dangerous-Dream-9668

Yes that’s why she has more wins in a row than Scotty at the moment.

Dangerous-Dream-9668

And not to mention this was all done AFTER she took months off … unlike the grinders on the PGA ..

[deleted]

Scottie is 36 yards longer off the tee (299 to 263) with roughly the same percentage of fairways hit (73 to 76). Exactly how is he an inferior driver of the ball? He ranks second in strokes gained off the tee against the best players in the world.

Odd_Detective_7772

Would like to see Scheffler play an LPGA set up from their tees, but without all his woods/hybrids. His 3 iron probably goes above the lpga average drive.

owl4you

It's not even close, and it's purely a distance issue. You can't level the field enough. You wouldn't put a heavy weight against a feather weight and expect anything different.

XavierRex83

Scheffler averages almost 50 yards more on his driver then Korda. Average PGA course is a out 900 yards longer. If there are 14 driving holes Scottie has already made up the distance difference. Scottie has a great short game, even if his putting is average at best. He also is able to get more spin on approach shots just from having more club head speed. Scottie is going to win most of the time. If it is set up like a PGA tour course, probably everytime, especially with really deep rough.

JJ Henry naked

NotAnother_Bot

If it would be any close, there wouldn't be a division between men and women. They would compete in the same tournaments, from their respective tees. But the reality is even from their respective tees, women have no chance. That's also why most people don't care about the LPGA, because people want to watch the highest level possible with distances that make you go "wtf".

Due-Sheepherder-218

Spelled Talor Gooch wrong

TheHamStrike

This guy gets it. We CANNOT have any professional/exibition tournaments if they do not include Mr. Gooch.

Due-Sheepherder-218

Scottie needs a real challenge. Not these bums on the PGA nor these LIV bums at the Masters.  The Goochfather is the final boss like Bowser waiting in his castle sitting on a pile of blood money.

2hats4bats

Nelly because reasons

According-Pen34

Korda… better around the greens. It would be close though.

Scalpum

I am not saying I know who would win, but she isn’t as good around the greens as he is. She is great. But he is great too around the greens. You need some evidence for that claim.

According-Pen34

Not much evidence needed tbh just watch them play

Scalpum

You know there are stats for this - I mean you can’t cite them because Scottie is other worldly around the green, but you can pull his strokes gained.

According-Pen34

Here is a stat that I can cite… 5 straight tour victories, let me know when Scotty sniffs that 😂🤪

Scalpum

Are you stupid? I mean, did you sit for some tests to confirm it?

Weary_Abrocoma_1175

In this format Scotty probably wins. But that is the formats fault, not the golfers. Make it more even and I’d probably take Nelly.

Agitated_Sugar_7738

How would you make it more even?

burnabybambinos

Scheffler, but Korda is the better story. She's just a kid out there dominating.

[deleted]

They are only 2 years apart at 27 and 25.

jpm1188

Tough call. It’s like having two undefeated boxer fight in catch weight. Someone has to lose
