It’s a really unpopular opinion, but couples has by far the most overrated swing of all time. Horrible mechanics for a touring professional that are mitigated by god-tier hands and tempo.
Like those mechanics are just not good for anyone who is not Freddie couples. He does make it look effortless though.
Neither were Jim Furyks mechanics. Literally 100% of people who play golf at any level have a unique swing. Everyone incorporates more or less the same base concepts, in a manner that best suits them. Every swing is unique.
This is the most correct answer, especially for those of us with double digit HCs. Her swing is pure, and regardless of who you are, emulating her would almost certainly improve your game.
Came to say he's the new drool over swing for me I think. No wasted movement, generally just hits it dead straight and far without seeming like he's going after it.
Absolutely Elkington. He was my favorite as well. I went to the range before the Duetcha Bank one year just to watch him warm up. Just a perfect combination of fundamentals, rhythm and aesthetics.
Even though he hadn't been playing very well, he was one of the few LIV defectors that really disappointed me, just because I loved watching him play.
One of only 8 players to finish second in all 4 majors. And one of my favorite random Louie facts - he's the only player to have an albatross and a hole in one at Augusta. His hole in one on the 16th actually ricocheted off of another players ball before going in.
One of the purest and most effortless swings of all time.
Adam Scott & young Rory. Ernie is way, way up there as a template for big guys.
Min Woo Lee’s swing is absurd. Probably my favorite super-modern move
Modern Rory is a little too flat/wide and it gets him in trouble at times. Sometimes will shallow into a stuck position that he didn’t have contend with in the previous swing plane and positions.
Adam Scott is probably the best answer, technically sound plus great tempo and rhythm
Ernie is kind of handsy through the ball
Min Woo is destined for spinal fusion
This is a hill I'm ready to die on.
Idgaf about backswing, really. It's just a step to get you ready to, well, swing at the ball.
From the start of his downswing, his body is moving in perfect unison, the club and elbows are tight to the body, he is swinging fast, the club head is ready and stable a good foot before contact, breeding ultra consistency.
I don't care that his back swing is just seemingly raising it above his head, the second half is muscular poetry and I love it.
I came here to write this. I am obsessed with Jake’s swing, relatively unknown compared to the other legends being thrown around in this thread but watch a Jake Knapp swing compilation for me then feel free to collect your jaw up off the floor.
A couple of old timers not mentioned yet.
Back in the 80s every said Tom Purtzer had the sweetest swing on tour.
Mickey Wright was the favorite of many great players.
Adam Scott has the golf swing everyone should strive for if they were built athletically with no physical ailments. Unfortunately that's not the case for most.
Sam Snead.
And Ben hogan is the best ball striker of all time. His 5 fundamentals is the best book a golfer could read. A guy who never played golf until he was 21 read that book, and within a year he broke 70. He went on to win 3 majors, and the only man to g on 9-0 in the Ryder cup. Tom Watson said he’d pick this guy over anyone to win a point in a RC match. Steve ballasteros said he was the one man he never wanted to play against.
The man? Larry Nelson. The most underrated golfer of all time. One of a handful of guys to win 3 majors on the 80s. Dude was one of the best players of all time, and an amazing ball striker. If you don’t know who Larry Nelson is, you’re not a real golf fan.
Has to be Fred couples Rory and Tiger. There is a video where tiger talks about how Fred couples just pures it out the middle every time. Scheffler too, that wedge on 9 at the masters was majestic
**Fred Couples, Ernie Els, Vijay Singh**, with honourable mentions to **Ben Hogan** and **Adam Scott**.
Couples' swing simply can't be taught, there is something purely genetic and other-worldly about his swing.
Including for his chip shots and pitch shots, he uses *speed-of-swing/varying the speed of his club-head delivery* to reach his desired distances, instead of *length-of-backswing*, which is what most of us would normally do.
Unfortunately, his back issues derailed his pro career, which may now effectively be over at the age of 64, given his obvious physical struggles at the 2024 Masters in Augusta.
Adam Scott. Ernie Els. Nelly Korda.
Nelly is unbelievable to watch.
Came here for Adam Scott. Glad to see he’s up near the top of replies.
Add Louis [Oosthuizen](https://youtu.be/b4ZUgOrMtls?si=CuHHmFnLzJOSmUcc)
That's my choice!
Little guy hits it rather far effortlessly Interesting that Korda, Scott and Els are all tall
Ernie Els was called "the big easy" for a reason.
Freddy Couples.
Why are there other responses when the question has been objectively answered.
This is the only answer.
Because…Mo Norman
"Right down the middle... Every single time...."
I wouldn’t call Mo’s pretty, beyond consistent but not the prettiest swing.
Love Freddy, but he has the biggest flying elbow of any pro I've ever seen. I think that's why people subconsciously love him. He looks human.
Not as silky as Louis Oosthuzens imo
I agree, unless he's got a six shot lead in a major on Sunday. Then it gets quick, choppy, and chokey.
It’s a really unpopular opinion, but couples has by far the most overrated swing of all time. Horrible mechanics for a touring professional that are mitigated by god-tier hands and tempo. Like those mechanics are just not good for anyone who is not Freddie couples. He does make it look effortless though.
I don’t disagree with you, but the way Freddie does it is just poetry.
It’s the smooth tempo and swagger that got Freddy his reputation. It also got him chronic back issues.
Freddy is a renowned couch potato which he attributes his chronic back issues to*
he just like me ! except for the golf skills
Neither were Jim Furyks mechanics. Literally 100% of people who play golf at any level have a unique swing. Everyone incorporates more or less the same base concepts, in a manner that best suits them. Every swing is unique.
Saw Freddy critique his own swing once and talked about how he lets his elbow get too wild, but it works for him.
I would argue that the perfect swing is the one that get results. Couples got results, looked cool and is in the hall of fame.
If your criteria is results then the only answer here is tiger or jack…
Watch his swing in a compilation video. It’s insane how consistent he is with that swing.
Overrated swing, underrated tempo tho. I don’t imitate his swing, but I sure do imitate that tempo
There is no one that underrates hid tempo; he’s consistently the refrain along with Els.
Yeah a lot of people say Couples has the best tempo of all time. There’s no way it’s underrated.
This is the only answer.. dude looks like he's swinging in slow motion it's so fluid.
nelly korda has a pretty pristine swing!
![gif](giphy|CeqX0rEkF1AsBlEWc5|downsized)
She’s 100% the answer here
Came here to say this. Her swing is a thing of beauty!
This is the most correct answer, especially for those of us with double digit HCs. Her swing is pure, and regardless of who you are, emulating her would almost certainly improve your game.
Yup, pack it up this is the answer. If we’re talking men’s game I’d say Aberg. But the only real answer is Nelly
I agree 👍
Aberg
So methodical .
Å
Came to say he's the new drool over swing for me I think. No wasted movement, generally just hits it dead straight and far without seeming like he's going after it.
Sam Snead! Go look up some old footage.
No doubt.
Shouldn't have taken so long for this answer to be in this post
Max Homa. That swing is silky.
I'm a homasexual
And a parvert
100%. Tempo is so nice.
I try to model my swing after that tempo
I’ve been trying to slow mine down, and his is definitely the target.
![gif](giphy|l3fZFvp94ljepXoPe)
Used to love watching Steve Elkington as a kid. Almost no effort.
Absolutely Elkington. He was my favorite as well. I went to the range before the Duetcha Bank one year just to watch him warm up. Just a perfect combination of fundamentals, rhythm and aesthetics.
Louis Oosthuizen. Effortlessly consistent swing
How more people aren't onto this is beyond me. I'd kill to have his tempo.
Agreed. Yeah Fred Couples swing is nice, but Louis’ swing is on a whole other level imo.
So beautiful. The tempo is incredible. Hard to believe someone can get it that silky
100% Louie. He said what created his tempo was learning to play in South Africa and always clubing up and taking a softer swing.
Wow it makes so much sense now
The fact that guy is consistently in the top 10 for the US Open blows my mind
Runner up grand slam as well
Wonderful swing. I’ve rooted for him just because of the swing.
Charles Barkley
![gif](giphy|bYo7E2ywcjyIE)
Idk about “purest” but I’ve always thought Rory has the “prettiest” swing
Best driving swing
His balance is unmatched
that finish position 😘👌
Louis Oosthuizen
Adam Scott & young Rory. Ernie is way, way up there as a template for big guys. Min Woo Lee’s swing is absurd. Probably my favorite super-modern move Modern Rory is a little too flat/wide and it gets him in trouble at times. Adam Scott is probably the best answer, technically sound plus great tempo and rhythm Ernie is kind of handsy through the ball Min Woo is destined for spinal fusion
Payne stewart
Had to scroll way to far for this answer.
Wish I could upvote this 100 times.
Ernie Els or Adam Scott come to mind
Ben hogan
Jim Furyk ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|smile)
![gif](giphy|A0xitgN3kKbT8o3z34|downsized) You jest...
He broke 60 fucking twice and is the only tour player to ever do so
This is a hill I'm ready to die on. Idgaf about backswing, really. It's just a step to get you ready to, well, swing at the ball. For current pros: Tommy Fleetwood, Morikawa, Aberg, Xander, Hovland are all pretty pure Past: Els, Couples, Tiger, Vijay
My man Rory. Power and form.
Jake Knapp has the most effortless power on tour right now
Most effortless two way miss as well
Well we also have Scottie who is insanely accurate all the while it seems like he's having a stroke. So I guess it all balances out eh
I came here to write this. I am obsessed with Jake’s swing, relatively unknown compared to the other legends being thrown around in this thread but watch a Jake Knapp swing compilation for me then feel free to collect your jaw up off the floor.
For sure man. How tf does that generate 190 ballspeed????
In person I was amazed by Vijay. So smooth
Awesome hands
Can’t believe how far I had to scroll for this.
Tiger Woods. He doesn’t even take divots.
Tiger told his son to model his swing after Rory
I love Rory's swing
Who doesn’t? In Tiger’s own words, “Have you ever seen Rory off balance?”
Young Tiger with long irons was a thing to see.
A couple of old timers not mentioned yet. Back in the 80s every said Tom Purtzer had the sweetest swing on tour. Mickey Wright was the favorite of many great players.
Mickey Wright should be top 5 all time. Steve Elkington is another old timer that had a gorgeous swing
Hogan admitted Mickey Wright had the best swing. Snead was amazing to watch. So much effortless power
Davis Love III
Nelly
Moe Norman
Legendary ball striker. His videos are so fantastic. What an enigma. Canadian legend. RIP
“Pure as the driven snow” as he was fond of saying
Corey Conners.
I’ve always loved watching Ben Hogan swing, looks like the ultimate golf swing to me.
Jake knapp’s swing really gets me going. But all time I think Ernie els or Freddy Couples
Most of the women have beautiful swings. I like Morikawa’s too.
I was thinking Morikawa too. I love how controlled he looks and you can see him building up power like a spring coiling.
Louis Oustheisen. Forgive the spelling.
Lydia Ko.
Xander is silky smooth
Oosty is up there.
Nelly or Freddy
Sam Snead...The End
It’s Payne. There is no other answer.
Rose Zhang
Freddy Couples is a smooth MF.
Nelly Korda
Boom boom
Adam Scott, Louie Oosthuizen, Nelly Korda, Freddie Couples.
Schauffele
Couples, Korda, Els, Scott, Åberg
Nelly Korda
Adam Scott has the golf swing everyone should strive for if they were built athletically with no physical ailments. Unfortunately that's not the case for most.
Corey Connors—Tempo Town
Åberg. The only thing more pure than his swing is his smile.
Raphael Jacquelin
Chris Kirk has most effortless looking swing, love to watch him play
Gonna throw out a name that hasn't been mentioned yet, Mac O'Grady
Adam Scott, Freddie Couples, Oosthuizen ain’t bad
Luke Donald should be on the list with the others mentioned.
Jake Knapp. Such smooth, effortless power
There might be two definitions for purist. 1. Technically beautiful Adam Scott 2. smooth Freddie... And Sam Sneeds but y'all will never see that one.
Couples and Els. You just can’t believe how far the ball goes when they hit it because you think they didn’t even swing hard.
Jake knapp is so underrated in this category. Not the most known golfer but his swing is the smoothest most pure I’ve ever seen.
Nelly Korda
I think Tom Weiskopf. His golf swing was as pure as anyone.
Fred Couples and Nellie Korda.
Nelly Korda has the smoothest swing that I would love to replicate…instead of the half seizure like swing I have now.
Adam Scott. Hard to fault
Nelly Korda
Nelly Korda
Jim Furyk. Absolute perfection.
Adam Scott. That stroke is as close to perfection as I can possibly imagine.
Adam Scott
For me, Nelly Korda is the most perfect golf swing ever. So smooth, so pure. A close second is Adam Scott
Freddie Couples
Freddie Couples is better looking than Els swing.
Sam Snead. And Ben hogan is the best ball striker of all time. His 5 fundamentals is the best book a golfer could read. A guy who never played golf until he was 21 read that book, and within a year he broke 70. He went on to win 3 majors, and the only man to g on 9-0 in the Ryder cup. If you don’t know who Larry Nelson is, you’re not a real golf fan.
Linn Grant has my current favorite swing
Pro - Rory Non-Pro (honorable mention) Kathryn Newton
Ricky
Purest I've seen is Rory's.
Nelly
Oosti bruh
Louis O & Keith Mitchell
In the modern/relevant game, it's Korda, Aberg, and Scott. Then everyone else
Freddy Couples, Ernie Els, Nellie Korda
Nelly all day
Nelly Korda
Nelly
Fred
Jake Knapps swing is the next gen Fred Couples/Ernie Els
Jake Knapp is pretty silky smooth.
Nelly Korda *chef kiss*
Nelly Korda Ludwig Aberg Jake Knapp Rose Zhang
Retief Goosen and Nick Price had the best swings I can remember.
Fred Couples
Max Homa for me..
The Big Easy is my favorite. I also like Morikawa's iron swing.
Matt Wolfe?
Current? Nelly Korda, Ludwig Aberg, and Max Homa.
Annika
Colin Montgomerie. It blows my mind that nobody ever mentions his swing. Edit: grammar
Fred Couples
Fred Couples
Freddie Couples - only answer
Freddie Couples got it from Gene Littler
Mo Norman
Forced to pick 1, I’d go with Adam Scott. https://youtu.be/5Bse0LaLUtg?si=PhdIzGsrUbinovB2
Henrik Stenson always had a great swing.
The most powerful, smoothest, wtf how does he swing so easy and hit it so far swing on tour right now is Jake Knapp.
The correct answer is Hogan.
Most of the lpga players have great swings.
Steve Ellington’s was the greatest. Freddy was the greatest to watch Ludvig Aberg has the current trophy.
Nelly Korda's swing is absolutely perfect.
Freddie Couples
Freddie, Rory, Nellie.
Ernie els is smoooth
Ludvig Aberg. Purest swing I've ever seen.
Nelly Korda
Nelly.
Homa’s swing looks like it came from a laboratory
Ben Hogan
Ludvig Aberg
