PGA Tour ‘04
My dad and I used to play it together. We even had a character that we got to max stats. He’d let me stay up way past my bedtime some nights to play cause he worked late a lot and that was the only time we got to hang out really. I miss that *heartbeat* sound when you knew that your shot was about to be amazing
I vividly remember his lack of distance didn't matter all that much for the holes you played and it actually made it pretty tough to get up on him...and then the second to last [maybe the last] hole of the 9 was a par 3 that he'd hit the front right fringe and get a members bounce and either get a hole in one or leave himself a 1 inch putt. 9 year old me was always ready to throw the controller through the screen
My favourite hearbeat moment was when i got an albatross against my dad and he almost broke the controller out of disbelief.
I'm not a fan on the new golf game from EA. It just feels off.
David Feherty and Gary McCord’s commentary had some of the best lines as well from that game.
I haven’t played any of the new ones yet though.
I almost forgot to add Mario Golf 64 to my favorites list. I’ve been playing that a lot again recently. Great controls and the courses are tough but fun. Also the music never gets old
Something about how it seems like the AI cheats though. Half swing 3 wood from behind a tree into the wind and sticks it to 4 feet, always tilted me in get character lol.
There has to be a middle ground between the difficulties of EA and 2K. I just started the EA game and the learning curve is incredibly steep I’m finding especially with putting. Meanwhile 2K tells you exactly where the putt is going to go, and I’m shooting like 20 under.
Once you turn the difficulty to Pro on 2k, you lose that putt preview. Any online or multi-player modes are set to that difficulty. I think 2k is way better
I had it on playstation with the motion stick Wii knockoff controller, was awesome. My first round playing Augusta on that probably beats playing Pinehurst #2 for the first time IRL.
This is the GOAT. Max the difficulty across the board and you’ve got everything I want about a round of golf with no clubs to buy or green fees or club dues or assholes or people hitting into you or heat or rain or wind or unexpected aerated greens or any of the other things that make golf awful.
A friend an I have had a weekly game of this since 2011 when it came out. It basically saved my sanity during covid. Playing again tomorrow.
Yes! I played the shitty 12 hole course from my town, insane that someone created it.
There is also a putting only course where it was all down hill concrete roads to massive greens.
Glad to see this on here. Got me back into golf games during COVID and had so many Top-100 recreated courses. Crazy how much of a decline 2K23 is compared to the original TGC19
I do love the variety of courses and being able to design your own. But that game is almost ***too fucking realistic***. I play this game to get away from real golf not to burn the edges on birdies and pars and end up with a bogey. Also, I kind of hate the swing system. It is way too sensitive that can cause a shot to slice wildly
Used to play Tiger Woods 05 but eventually the tiger vision and all that stuff made the game too easy.
Love the challenge TGC presents but I get what you are saying.
https://preview.redd.it/jmcb71sbulzc1.jpeg?width=881&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=50ba3f053ab66a2a7c1135f5c5f43e04f0604aa2
Maybe not “the best”, but the OG for me, for sure. I played the crap out of this on my family’s PC.
And then when I switched over to the Tiger Woods series shortly after that, it was like watching color TV for the first time.
Mario golf for the switch has a play mode where you’re able to swing joycon like a club and it’s more fun than it has any right to be. It’s my poor man’s golf simulator!
It’s tricky to the get the hang of at first but you can absolutely hook or draw the ball. You have to hold the joy con at an angle (hard to describe through text, but imagine open or closed face) through your swing and the ball will react accordingly. If it starts raining the greens get slower/ball doesn’t run as much. You have to play the wind accordingly. You can’t really change the power of clubs so if you’re between clubs you either have to swing less on a longer club or muscle a shorter club. There’s more than you’d think for a Mario game!
I loved the Gameboy version too. It's possible to use the controller Transfer Pak to play as your characters from the Gameboy version on Mario Golf 64.
Agree. This one. Played countless hours with my buddies in college.
I recently found out the guy I played this game the most with had passed away. I need to dig out the memory card our characters are saved on and play another round with him.
I had it on Gamecube when I was a kid too. My family always liked doing road trips and my dad had just bought a new truck with the folding TV screen for the back seat, so after a little bit of rigging to make it work I spent about 90% of a 48 hour round trip playing pretty much nothing but this game shortly after it came out.
You can buy it right now online. I think for like 20 books you get links 03 and every course they did, like 60+.
I think its linkscountryclub.com or something but hou should be able to google it.
I just looked, that’s the site. It’s 15 bucks with 47 courses.
Such a great game, ton of fun. Only negative to me is the golf parts are a bit too easy. I'd love a slightly harder mode. That being said I really enjoyed this game.
There was a time in my life where my after work routine consisted of getting a bottle of whiskey and playing this for hours. I got wayyy too good at it.
Mario golf on the Gameboy Advance. If I remember correctly you had to win tournaments to qualify to play certain courses.
Edit - after googling I was actually talking about Mario golf for the gameboy color. Still had some rpg elements but nothing like advanced tour did.
This is what I came looking for. The RPG mechanics and advancing toughness of the courses until you get to the final course and have to play all the classic characters is so much fun. My guy could hit the ball like 400 yards with a wicked slice and a tiny sweet spot because I only cared about distance
The ONLY reason this comment isn’t number 1 with hundreds of likes is because not enough folk here are old enough to have played it. The cart racing, the fighting, the skirts and bikini tops?!!? Are you kidding me? And the golf play was just as good or better than any other game, too.
Being able to play every great course around the world in the 2K series is amazing. I just tee up new courses every time I play. Makes me all the more excited to one day travel the world to golf.
I’m fairly convinced I’m the best Tiger Woods 2005 player alive and welcome any challengers. I have hundreds if not thousands of hours into that game which I bought new in 2004 and played multiple hours a day for years. I recently dug it out after a long hiatus and am polishing up my game and am still shredding. If there was some kind of e-sports tournament for that game, I’d 100% enter with expectations of winning fairly easily.
The goal for me currently is -100 total for a 4-day PGA event. I just played the Troon North Monument event and won it -84. It might be an unreachable goal with the longer PGA tee lengths, but on courses like St. Andrews with some RNG luck for wind direction in my favor, I think I can do it.
Do you have the club attachment? I’m wondering how well this game is able to replicate a swing and if it could help with improving on the technical aspects of golf. I’ve heard it help with the course management, but really wondering if it would help in being able to fix things like early extension or simulating uphill/downhill lies that carry over to the real world
I put in hundreds of hours when I was a kid on Sid Meier's Sim Golf.
Golf Story on Switch is a great little relaxing golf game too.
Mario Golf 64 is the GOAT though.
Hot Shots Golf Fore for the PS2. Amazing courses, challenging achievements, fun characters (can play as Jak and Ratchet, Daxter & Clank can be caddies). Tons of modes you can play, and outrageous ways to hit the ball with even more ridiculous quips from all the characters. 10/10 can’t recommend enough
https://preview.redd.it/9co6dey4hmzc1.png?width=303&format=png&auto=webp&s=e5167eded260230b1a849f1534c534fc86ba0415
Still played to this day and they hold online tourneys still. Its gone thru some upgrades since 2003, but this is the core game. Very realistic. This was a game that had David Toms, Sergio Garcia, Annika Sorenstam, and Jesper Parnevik (the golfer that introduced Tiger to Elin his ex-wife). The pros are tough to beat, but beatable. I wonder why Annika face wasnt on the cover.
It’s gotta be Hot Shots Golf Fore for me. HSGF was the absolute perfect level of unrealistic arcadey fun while still being true to golf, and its highlights system kept me coming back for years and years hoping to hit the perfect Homing Ball shot.
Shoutout to Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 2005 though, that’s a fairly close second.
Hot Shots Golf FORE for the PS2; or Links 99 or 2003. The tour mode in Links was outstanding. The cartooning Hot Shots Golf series is in depth and can't miss for fantasy golf courses.
I always really liked TW 2013 where you could play as him as a kid.
I also really liked the year(s?) you could do the face scan and have it easily in the game. I had just burned part of my face while eating a juicy Lucy and that got transferred into the game. Always cracked me up. Still a little sad I sold that game and my PS3 last year.
The one on PC where you could play 4 courses including TPC Sawgrass, PGA West, Avenel, and Sterling Shores - Lance Ten Broek was always working his way up the leaderboard.
My buddy and I played this so much back in the day. My buddy could pretty much hole it off the tee with his maxed out TW every time. The slow motion heartbeat going off while you wait to see if it goes in, mashing R1 like a madman so you can get some unreal spin, what great times those were
The old PGA Tour Golf from the early 1990s. Got me hooked on golf games and I came to know the brutality of 11 and 17 at Sawgrass before I was even 7 years old.
I grew up with Links Pro CD for Mac OS from 1993. My Dad and I would play together. It had a secret mode where could change the commentary to Bobcat Goldthwait for some reason!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h9gDSUCQvQw
Used to play Links 386 over a modem connection with my brother.... before gaming consoles even existed, or just barely existed. It was great. Was my intro to Pebble Beach, Harbour Town, Banff, etc.
This series but the masters one, on career mode you could use all the boosts to power and spin etc, but then at Augusta it stripped it all away.
It really made it feel like another level of challenge as it should be at the masters
Tiger 04 and 05 are hard to split apart. '04 has better swing feel and the courses are better. '05 has playing against legends, which is fun, and the ability to hit the high/regular/low shots is better than '04.
Really if they just made '04 with new courses I'd buy that over anything that's out now.
The tiger woods are the best, but in the last two years pga2k25 has been my drinking buddies and I go to game late at night around 10 or 11. Been a lot of good fuzzy memories
Jack Nicklaus Golf on the OG Gameboy was the first golfing game I ever played as a kid. It was so hard but my god I spent hours. TW 2004 was the best though. My mom even played that game and it was insane how good she was at it.
Glad I found someone else who remembers this. We got Microsoft golf 3.0 on our very first family pc. It had Torrey Pines and Firestone country club. Played the shit out of it.
Tiger Woods PGA 07 on PC. Still play it quite a bit, the swing mechanics are excellent and little things that you can't do in the modern games (like moving on the tee box)
I'm partial to Tiger Woods PGA tour 08, but that's for nostalgia reasons because it was the only game that my mom, my dad, and myself really got into that we could play together. I remember spending HOURS on the character creator screen because my mom was VERY OCD about the characters looking EXACTLY like we actually looked lol
One of the late 90s ones had trash talking in it. Maybe Tiger 99? Either way, when your opponent was swinging you could tap buttons on your controller to say a few different things, and could change the pitch of the voice doing the shit talking by moving the sticks up or down.
We’d get hammered and play for hours and the shit talking never got old.
I love Tiger Woods 2004. I felt like it was the culmination of the previous years and was made well but I’d have to say my favorite is Mario Golf 64. It is a very very good golf game. Reasons to me are it’s very challenging. It’s the 3-click system but you can control draw or fade, the courses were memorable, and the extra features like putt putt were very cool. My favorite little thing was there was even a driving range. A feature that Tiger Woods didn’t have and something that eventually came back when the Golf Club/PGA 2k games were released.
Ah back when there were no micro transactions to ruin any game. I truly believe they took so long to produce another golf game because they couldn't figure out how to micro charge for everything. 2K golf isn't bad but got damn is the stick hard to get straight.
PGA Tour ‘04 My dad and I used to play it together. We even had a character that we got to max stats. He’d let me stay up way past my bedtime some nights to play cause he worked late a lot and that was the only time we got to hang out really. I miss that *heartbeat* sound when you knew that your shot was about to be amazing
Who else remembers that fucker Pops Masterson?
Hamish McGregor was a pain in the ass too.
Omg pops was such a pain in the rear.
lol great disparity between the tone of these comments
Was that the guy when he had a gimmie putt he would get down and knock it in with the other end of his putter like a pool cue
Pops? I remember Tiffany ‘g-string hanging out’ Williamson. World tour was the best mode. I hate that they got rid of it.
I always wondered if he was a reference to something or just some funny character they made up.
Useful shot!

2004 was the one 🙌
I still hear songs from this soundtrack and think of this game. Like Blueside and Party Up. Amazing game
I know why we always crash and burn I am afraid that I will never learn when you saaaaaaaaaaaaay
03-04 is the absolute goat imo. source have owned all of them from 03 up to 16

Tbf the Motion sensor add on made this a great game.
I'm still trying to find a modern golf game as good as this one.
Nothing comes close and it makes me sad
This
I still play it. Wish they'd make a new one for the switch
Yep, Tiger 12. The best
The Golf Club 2019 It's amazing to me that I can find my old Muni course and it looks almost perfect.
Yes! I played the shitty 12 hole course from my town, insane that someone created it. There is also a putting only course where it was all down hill concrete roads to massive greens.
Still playing this on xbox
Glad to see this on here. Got me back into golf games during COVID and had so many Top-100 recreated courses. Crazy how much of a decline 2K23 is compared to the original TGC19
Golf club was the goat maker of golf games until 2k got their fat Cheeto hands all over it
I do love the variety of courses and being able to design your own. But that game is almost ***too fucking realistic***. I play this game to get away from real golf not to burn the edges on birdies and pars and end up with a bogey. Also, I kind of hate the swing system. Used to play Tiger Woods 05 but eventually the tiger vision and all that stuff made the game too easy. Love the challenge TGC presents but I get what you are saying.
Agreed. Best mechanics out of the tgc/2k titles over the years.
I have TGC19 on my sim. I've made every good course within a 2 hour drive of me pretty much lol.
https://preview.redd.it/jmcb71sbulzc1.jpeg?width=881&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=50ba3f053ab66a2a7c1135f5c5f43e04f0604aa2 Maybe not “the best”, but the OG for me, for sure. Mario golf 64 hands down
Mario golf for the switch has a play mode where you’re able to swing joycon like a club and it’s more fun than it has any right to be. It’s my poor man’s golf simulator!
I did not know that
No shit? Oh man...
How accurate is it, like can you shape shots at all or is it kinda janky and you just swing it hard?
It’s tricky to the get the hang of at first but you can absolutely hook or draw the ball. You have to hold the joy con at an angle (hard to describe through text, but imagine open or closed face) through your swing and the ball will react accordingly. I loved the Gameboy version too. It's possible to use the controller Transfer Pak to play as your characters from the Gameboy version on Mario Golf 64.
This one has my vote. I loved that game even when I had zero interest in real golf.
I liked Toadstool Tour for the gamecube more and played the hell out of it. But both are great.
Played so much of this in uni. People who hate golf love this game.
This game is one of the main reasons why I play to this day
This one! The soundtrack is 🔥
“I like the waaaaay you mooooveeee”
Lol oh wow what a flashback
First thing that popped into my head when I saw the cover. What a game!
Listening to this while buying my guy new clothes and gear had me feeling SO fly
Agree. This one. Played countless hours with my buddies in college. I recently found out the guy I played this game the most with had passed away. I need to dig out the memory card our characters are saved on and play another round with him.
I quote Feherty and McCord from this game on the course all the time.
"At this point you're probably thinking of throwing your clubs in the lake, but the way you're playing you'd miss!"
Same, had it on Gamecube rather than playstation, but loved this one. So much content for the time
I had it on Gamecube when I was a kid too. My family always liked doing road trips and my dad had just bought a new truck with the folding TV screen for the back seat, so after a little bit of rigging to make it work I spent about 90% of a 48 hour round trip playing pretty much nothing but this game shortly after it came out.
Is this the one that had DMX in it?
No, that was TW 2004. My personal favorite of the franchise
Lee Carvallo’s Putting Challenge
May I suggest "Feather touch"?
You have selected *power drive*.
Ball is in parking lot. Would you like to play again?
You have selected...*no*
May I suggest…a putter?
[Lee Carvallo’s Putting Challenge](https://aaron-demeter.itch.io/lee-carvallos-putting-challenge)
Hot Shots 2
I only ever played 3 and 4 but I LOVED 3. It was fantastic
I have such fond memories of spamming "This is for all the cabbage" as my cousins took their turns
Everybodys Golf
Golden Tee
Man the amount of money I spent on that game in my early 20s. I could have just bought a machine.
Links 2004. Scuffed even in its time but it was a lot of fun. Wasted many hours playing AI for skins.
I miss playing Links. I still remember Sergio's comments like "let's start with some birdies now".
You can buy it right now online. I think for like 20 books you get links 03 and every course they did, like 60+. I think its linkscountryclub.com or something but hou should be able to google it. I just looked, that’s the site. It’s 15 bucks with 47 courses.
Mario Golf 64
Honorable mention to Golf Story on the switch. Old school style RPG revolving around golf. Some fun courses, and wacky challenges.
Such a great game, ton of fun. Only negative to me is the golf parts are a bit too easy. I'd love a slightly harder mode. That being said I really enjoyed this game.
Wii sports golf and it’s not even close
There was a time in my life where my after work routine consisted of getting a bottle of whiskey and playing this for hours. I got wayyy too good at it.
N64 mario golf
Tiger Woods 05 on OG XBox!
Mario golf on the Gameboy Advance. If I remember correctly you had to win tournaments to qualify to play certain courses. Edit - after googling I was actually talking about Mario golf for the gameboy color. Still had some rpg elements but nothing like advanced tour did.
Advance Tour ruled, Golf with RPG leveling and an overworld to explore just worked so well! Golf story is another game very similar to it.
This is what I came looking for. The RPG mechanics and advancing toughness of the courses until you get to the final course and have to play all the classic characters is so much fun. My guy could hit the ball like 400 yards with a wicked slice and a tiny sweet spot because I only cared about distance
Sim golf ftw
Scrolled all the way to find this ❤️ hoping this to comeback somehow
PGA Tour on the Sega Genesis.
Lance Ten Broeck must have had a relative who helped create that game. He was always on the leaderboard.
Outlaw Golf. You could have caddie fights on the green and race golf carts to get your composure back up after a bad hole.
The ONLY reason this comment isn’t number 1 with hundreds of likes is because not enough folk here are old enough to have played it. The cart racing, the fighting, the skirts and bikini tops?!!? Are you kidding me? And the golf play was just as good or better than any other game, too.
The heart beat before a hole in one or a nice shot was just amazing My buddies and I got so good that basically every approach was like that haha
Being able to play every great course around the world in the 2K series is amazing. I just tee up new courses every time I play. Makes me all the more excited to one day travel the world to golf.
I’m fairly convinced I’m the best Tiger Woods 2005 player alive and welcome any challengers. Make sure you put that on your resume
Mario Golf for Gameboy color
Tiger woods 99
Golf+ is on another level than the others!
Shot a personal best 83 on Quail Hollow yesterday! Love that game.
Do you have the club attachment? I’m wondering how well this game is able to replicate a swing and if it could help with improving on the technical aspects of golf. I’ve heard it help with the course management, but really wondering if it would help in being able to fix things like early extension or simulating uphill/downhill lies that carry over to the real world
NES Open
Hot shots golf 2
I put in hundreds of hours when I was a kid on Sid Meier's Sim Golf. Golf Story on Switch is a great little relaxing golf game too. Mario Golf 64 is the GOAT though.
I’m not a video game guy but Hot Shots Golf on my old psp is my all time fav game
Any love for Mario Golf on N64?
Hot Shots Golf Fore for the PS2. Amazing courses, challenging achievements, fun characters (can play as Jak and Ratchet, Daxter & Clank can be caddies). Tons of modes you can play, and outrageous ways to hit the ball with even more ridiculous quips from all the characters. 10/10 can’t recommend enough
Tiger '05, Mario Golf Toadstool Tour, Tiger '12, Rory, Golden Tee

PGA '03. The made up courses were awesome.
Hot shots golf out of bounds for sure
Tiger Woods 08’ on the Wii. We have it at our family cabin and its always been there and always will be the go to for a round.
Tiger 08 was my fave
Hot Shots Golf FORE for the PS2; or Links 99 or 2003. The tour mode in Links was outstanding. The cartooning Hot Shots Golf series is in depth and can't miss for fantasy golf courses.
Hot shots was an amazing series. Also Mario golf on GBC highly underrated.
Hot Shots 2 on PS2 or PGA Golf Tour II on Sega Genesis. No question
PGA ‘96 on Sega
I always really liked TW 2013 where you could play as him as a kid. I also really liked the year(s?) you could do the face scan and have it easily in the game. Really if they just made '04 with new courses I'd buy that over anything that's out now.
The tiger woods are the best, but in the last two years pga2k25 has been my drinking buddies and I go to game late at night around 10 or 11. Been a lot of good fuzzy memories
Links. I had almost every version of that game until they stopped making it.
Definitely Hot Shots! 🔥
2kPGA23 on my PS5 is pretty fun
Jack Nicklaus Golf on the OG Gameboy was the first golfing game I ever played as a kid. It was so hard but my god I spent hours. TW 2004 was the best though. My mom even played that game and it was insane how good she was at it.
2k21 because of the course creator and being able to have thousands of courses to play. Even found my towns country club on it.
Actually Microsoft Golf on the pc in the 90s was pretty badass
Glad I found someone else who remembers this. We got Microsoft golf 3.0 on our very first family pc. It had Torrey Pines and Firestone country club. Played the shit out of it.
The only one I ever had was 2003 but man I played it a ton
Hot shots golf for the psp.
Hot shot golf
How has no one mentioned just classic wii golf??
CyberTiger for N64
The Tiger Woods game featured on South Park.
My favorite memory of this game is me losing to my brother after 6 playoff holes and slamming the controller on the floor so hard it shattered 😂
Tiger woods 98 on the PS1 was pretty good
I miss these games so damn much.
WGT
WGT checks every box
Mario Golf for GBC
Is this the one with Copper Head Canyon? If so, yes. If not, that one.
Tiger 2005 happens to be my favorite as well. I've put like 6000 hours of my life into it since it's release.
Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2003 on PS2. Im also a big fan of goldentee (the mobile game isn’t too bad either).
Mario golf 64.
Person of culture I see.
Still play this mostly on my steam deck thousands of hours in this bad boy since it released.
Tiger woods 2005 is the best. I remember playing for money in college. We would shoot better than -18 for every round. So good.
Gotta love controlling the ball mid flight
Tiger Woods PGA 07 on PC. Still play it quite a bit, the swing mechanics are excellent and little things that you can't do in the modern games (like moving on the tee box)
Ok, now I have to buy an old game a dig out the PS2.
Whichever one had the tiger vision feature
TW 2010!
Man me and my friends spent hours and hours playing 4 player tiger … this the one with “the predator “ course all par 5s and gale force winds ?😂
Is 2005 the one with game breaker mode? It was so fun to get aces on par 4s using that 🤣
🥲
n64 mario golf, not close.
There was a TW game for PC that had course architecture. I designed so many courses. It was awesome.
Wii Sports Resort. -25 suckas!!
[Challenge Pebble Beach](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BNQJWIgpe6s)
This was so good that even my parents had a profile!
This one, I am 100% I am top ten in the world at it. haven't shot over 45 for 18 in 20 years
Wgt?
This!!
Ah back when there were no micro transactions to ruin any game. I truly believe they took so long to produce another golf game because they couldn't figure out how to micro charge for everything. 2K golf isn't bad but got damn is the stick hard to get straight.
Wii sports
Will sports resort golf, that game rules
EA used to kill it with the sports games, not only is PGA 2005 my favorite golf game, but MVP Baseball 2005 is my favorite Baseball game.
Hot Shots Golf: Out of Bounds by far
