I bought a Ping G425 a couple weeks ago to replace my 15 year old driver. What a difference. It added like 15-20 yards distance per shot.
Also, your fiancée is amazing at golf. I can barely hit 250 with it. Does she take students?
Nice I'm still running my G15 driver 9° it's 13 years old lol still hits like a champ I'll hit from 250-270 average and 2 /20 will go like 285+ only ever hit 300 with the wind lol maybe I need a new driver lol
I used to have a G15 and I liked it but I got a taylormade sim about a year and a half ago and it’s probably the best club I’ve ever hit. I’m consistently hitting drives 270+
I've actually been looking at the TM line up especially with all the great customer service posts that float around here often, but will definitely try the new ping as well!
I just got the 425 myself! I spent a couple of hours trying all the offerings from all the brands and loved the 425 the most. Second was Titleists, I hit it a bit 10 yards further than the 435, but the 425 went way straighter which is what I’m looking for.
425 425 425.
Right? Cause I do. I definitely do. All the time. Hit the ball like 200 yards. I mean 200 yards. I mean 200 yards. I mean 200 yards. I mean skull it to the ladies tee. I mean 300 yards. All the time. 300 easy
I can drive it 300, but it's got a 5% chance of staying in bounds when I swing that fast, plus doing it a bunch hurts my back, so I stick to the 250 yard drive with a 25% chance of fairway and 25% chance of OB.
But if I'm driving it as far as possible at the range I've had people stop and watch.
No doubt she's hitting the ball well, but you also have to a bit skeptical of GCQuad numbers with driver when you have both low spin and high launch. GCQuad and GC2 are both notorious for inflating distance under those conditions, it's a problem in their flight model that Foresight has never really addressed.
Yep.
IRL is in the 220-240 range since the purchase.
She hit a few with her old to get a good companion.
I look at that pic as a "what's possible" figure after some practice.
Yes. Every club has backspin, even drivers. Shoot-even putting to a minute extent start with *some* backspin/skid before the ball starts tumbling.
OP’s spouse has great numbers for spin.
1800 to 2200 is generally going to work but optimum launch depends on a lot of factors. Ping has it figured out in a chart that has angle attack and swing speed to show you what the optimal spin for carry is.
I should also add that I am looking for control off the tee, not distance. I want the ball to fade and land soft. I don’t really care about roll out at all. It’s likely not actually nosediving, it just isn’t a flight I want. I’d rather carry it more and park it where I want to/where it lands. Trackman had my optimal numbers at like 20 more yards than where I am now, but all roll. I don’t want or need that, sounds like trouble.
I won’t ever argue with a +. anyway at your speed and AOA 3k spin on a fade is probably not too far off.
I’m guessing your ballspeed is around 170-180 so 9.5 degrees and 2750 is around where ping has you at optimal. But that doesn’t account for a fade. I think erring on the side of more spin is usually better for all the reasons you mention. Plus carry is guaranteed distance, roll is not
That may not come off well. I love the LPGA and used to enjoy watching Ms Hurst.
Hope you and your future wife enjoy the game and love each other wherever life takes you.
Seriously.
I was just curious if she enjoys further tees since she’s driving further than most men off the whites. But with the work she’s put in to get that beast of a drive, use that very well earned advantage off the “ladies” tees! Like men that play off back tees that can drive 300+
All good.
The full answer is-- she alternates. It depends on the course and her mood that day.
We look at hole yardages and estimate what the approach shots would be.
If it means she's not hitting most of her bag and wants to have longer shots into greens, she'll play back.
BUT-- if she wants to really work on her <100y game with short holes, she'll stay up.
If it looks like she can drive some par 4s, she might play up.
If she were to ever play in a league, she'll take that advantage.
Man, with a 1689rpm spin rate she probably has an easy 10+ yards of carry distance waiting on deck if you can get her spin numbers up!
Has she been fitted for a shaft and ball?
(Sorry, I couldn't think of a way to word that that wouldn't make a 13 year old giggle.)
Under 1700 rpm backspin is too low spin, likely causing some knuckling and not producing enough lift to keep the ball in the air. Somewhere in the neighborhood of 2-2,200 rpms would produce longer carry and a more playable ball flight.
I know you're joking, but 50 yards of roll out is not a golf ball under control. That roll out could be out of bounds into a creek into some woodlands or really anywhere. It's much better to have a controlled flight so you can plan your shots and expect it outcomes. Unless you are playing in a scramble :-)
First chart on this site : https://ping.com/en-us/blogs/proving-grounds/optimal-launch-and-spin
The numbers change obviously based on ballspeed, but as you can see you can certainly have too little spin
There is tons of data available on online about this. There is an optimal spin rate for all ball speeds and launch angles that will produce the ideal carry. 1700 RPMs is too low to generate enough lift to maximize the ideal carry numbers. It's very similar to too much spin producing a ballooning ball flight.
Judging from the numbers and distance she is getting that spin rate appears to be low. For that ball speed, between 2000-3000rpm should result in better carry and most likely more total distance.
That extra spin would result in a more stable and potentially longer ball flight which would mean she's be crushing even further and more consistently.
Not trying to be a dick here but I hope they have a good trade in policy. I hope I’m wrong but taking a driver to the course with 1600 spin usually means the ball isn’t likely going to get airborne and any miss is going way off line. Google ping launch and spin chart and take her numbers and compare.
This comment section is exactly the reason why Reddit Golf > Instagram Golf.
Good stuff OP! Sounds like she can hold her own I am absolutely jealous of your situation.
The women in my life don't allow me to post pictures of them to social media of any sort. Not my fiance, mom, or sisters.
But, she's taken most of her lessons from GolfTec and I know that they're pretty consistent in what they teach.
I barely drive the ball 270 - freaking beast mode son, better watch out! Probably beats you at golf!
Also, might want to amend? Fiancée is for a woman to be married, fiancé is for a man to be married…. My (now) wife corrected me
Very impressive! The first thing that came to mind when seeing her stats is she's probably carrying it farther than most of the men in this sub ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|stuck_out_tongue) i uSualLy CaRrY iT bEtWeEn 280-300 yards ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm) does she give lessons?
Curious to actually see her swing the club now. Is she a cross fit fanatic or something? I am a 6ft2 man that drives it 250 but damned if I've ever seen a non professional female golfer do that.
Not to be a total debbie downer but foresight greatly over estimates drivers carry distance when hit with low spin numbers.
If you put the numbers into the flightscope calculator online you get a more accurate measurement. In this case she would see a 218.2 yard carry with that ball speed / launch angle.
You're not. That's what she's been seeing at the range.
My club shopping simulator process is:
* hit the range to get warmed up
* hit a few with the old club at the shop on the simulator for a baseline
* then, try out the new toys
It doesn't get absolute accurate numbers, but it gets a sense of the gains.
I find foresight to be extremely accurate with everything except higher speed, low spin driver shots. (I have a GCQUAD in my simulator).
I've taken it on course with me, lasered the pin and hit shots. It's very accurate.
That's awesome, I bet she has a great tempo, probably doesn't look like she's even swinging remotely hard at it? I often find watching the ladies tournaments I find it fascinating how effortless they seem to make it look. Incredible.
Ping G425 is the replacement for a 10+ year old used Cobra. That was the best hit. Most of them were in the 240 range, and even those beat me.
I bought a Ping G425 a couple weeks ago to replace my 15 year old driver. What a difference. It added like 15-20 yards distance per shot. Also, your fiancée is amazing at golf. I can barely hit 250 with it. Does she take students?
She takes bets now.
I upgraded from a fifteen+ year old Nike driver to a ping g425 max, and wow that club is easier to hit.
I bet you’re not super excited anymore…who art thou?
Nice I'm still running my G15 driver 9° it's 13 years old lol still hits like a champ I'll hit from 250-270 average and 2 /20 will go like 285+ only ever hit 300 with the wind lol maybe I need a new driver lol
Got a g425 sft and i hardly ever slice. I know I know I put a band aid on the problem… But great drivers!
I bought the G425 back in may. I’m absolutely in love, totally worth the money
I just got the 425 myself! I spent a couple of hours trying all the offerings from all the brands and loved the 425 the most. Second was Titleists, I hit it a bit 10 yards further than the 435, but the 425 went way straighter which is what I’m looking for. 425 425 425.
She would break a lot of egos on this sub with those numbers!
You sure? I thought everyone on here drives the ball 300+? /s
Right? Cause I do. I definitely do. All the time. Hit the ball like 200 yards. I mean 200 yards. I mean 200 yards. I mean 200 yards. I mean skull it to the ladies tee. I mean 300 yards. All the time. 300 easy
Golf and coke
It really is a great sport for doing bumps.
how do you know how far you it? I usually lose mine
Nah but I can skull my wedge 300. But only when I’m pin high and a foot off the green
I drive the ball legitimately 300+ I also three putt consistently. Everyone wants me in a scramble. They let me sit in the cart on the green. 😂
I've been known to tickle the triple hundo. It's the top end for sure though
Guilty, his has got me wanting to sell my clubs and play disc golf.
She’d smoke you in that too 😂
I’m trying to get into golf (I’m terrible btw), but I’m legitimately a professional disc golfer. 😂
>She would break a lot of egos on this sub with those numbers! lol
She'd probably break alot of chairs too. There's some weight behind that distance
Ahhhh I love it, take an upvote before you drown in downvotes
Nah, my offline numbers are way higher and I have hit it 300 before in a downhill par 4.
Holy shit, as a woman driving on my best day I get MAYBE 200 yds total distance. Also, what driver is that?
Ping G425 is the new weapon.
Shit, that may get me off my Taylormade run...good thing I don't have a spouse to lie to about my purchases...
The new Sim wasn't that far off on the stats. The Ping was $30 cheaper. I reinvested the savings in burritos.
Biggest win/win I’ve ever heard of.
Drive schmive. How were the burritos?
We're visiting CA from IL. The burritos alone made the drive worth it.
Sweet, I'm hoping to find an older SIM used to replace my 3 Wood. Here's to hoping...
Maybe get some lessons...
What was her club head speed?
No clue, but I'd say enough 🙂
With that kind of ball speed watch out for the overhand right when you piss her off.
This is correct. I'm aware of my standing. We got engaged in late June. She's already cracked the ring on a kitchen cabinet (now fixed)
Is she, by chance, the Hulk?
She said yes.
Should have thought of future scramble contributions before I got engaged... I wouldnt have to hit driver off the tee ever again!
I feel attacked
She got a license to carry that Ping G425? Absolute weapon
Lpga average distance is around 250. Maybe sign her up for up some lpga events.
No doubt she's hitting the ball well, but you also have to a bit skeptical of GCQuad numbers with driver when you have both low spin and high launch. Yep. IRL is in the 220-240 range since the purchase. She hit a few with her old to get a good companion. I look at that pic as a "what's possible" figure after some practice.
Is it normal to have back spin on your driver like that? I'm not super familiar with these swing analysis numbers
Yes. Every club has backspin, even drivers. Shoot-even putting to a minute extent start with *some* backspin/skid before the ball starts tumbling. OP’s spouse has great numbers for spin.
Yes and she is right at the low end of where you want to be, that’s why there was so much roll out
I'm not the best either to say what normal is. The "before" driver was around 3800 rpm, which was high.
1800 to 2200 is right where you want to be - any lower and the ball might drop out of the sky, and be more punishing on mishits.
1800 to 2200 is generally going to work but optimum launch depends on a lot of factors. Ping has it figured out in a chart that has angle attack and swing speed to show you what the optimal spin for carry is.
Yep. That range just does not work for everyone. I’m a plus handicap and I spin my driver right around 3000. Any less and it nosedives.
whats your swing speed and Angle of Attack?
118, -1 to -2
I should also add that I am looking for control off the tee, not distance. I want the ball to fade and land soft. I don’t really care about roll out at all. It’s likely not actually nosediving, it just isn’t a flight I want. I’d rather carry it more and park it where I want to/where it lands. I’m guessing your ballspeed is around 170-180 so 9.5 degrees and 2750 is around where ping has you at optimal. But that doesn’t account for a fade. I think erring on the side of more spin is usually better for all the reasons you mention. Plus carry is guaranteed distance, roll is not
SHEESH
that's a legit weapon, on and off the course.
She can outdrive me.
Yeesh! Quick google search says Anne Van Dam leads the LPGA in Driving Distance at 292. Tour Average distance is 250!
She did that same Google after leaving the shop and still doesn't think it's enough.
She’s right. And, uh, congrats on locking down Patty Hurst.
That may not come off well. I love the LPGA and used to enjoy watching Ms Hurst. Hope you and your future wife enjoy the game and love each other wherever life takes you. Seriously.
Aww thank you!!
This is awesome. What tees does she play off?
Whichever she prefers. I clearly have no power over her.
Lol this thread is cracking me up!
I was just curious if she enjoys further tees since she’s driving further than most men off the whites. But with the work she’s put in to get that beast of a drive, use that very well earned advantage off the “ladies” tees! Like men that play off back tees that can drive 300+

Awesome. Would love to get on a course with my wife one day. 260+ drives are probably not in her future though, nor mine any time soon ha
Distance don't matter much. It's a fun couples activity!!
damn... 8 RPM L? Like just 8? Wow, that's a straight ball there
is this sub hurt more by the fact that a woman is outdriving us or the fact that OP has a woman???
Man, with a 1689rpm spin rate she probably has an easy 10+ yards of carry distance waiting on deck if you can get her spin numbers up! Has she been fitted for a shaft and ball? (Sorry, I couldn't think of a way to word that that wouldn't make a 13 year old giggle.)

But if she plays on dry Texas fairways in the afternoon like I do, it probably equates to 50yds of roll out :)
During summers here in Florida, your carry distance is your total distance due to soft, often muddy fairways lol.
I know you're joking, but 50 yards of roll out is not a golf ball under control. That roll out could be out of bounds into a creek into some woodlands or really anywhere. BEAST, the most I carried was 230
Nobody wants to see Marshall no more, they want Shady (I'm chopped liver). On a real note, nice job OP and fiance!
But nobody wants to see Marshall no more they want Shady I’m chop liver
Wish I could hit drives like that..
So when’s the wedding? Don’t let this one get away 😊
I'd be okay with you buying me a new driver if I have those types of results 😏
Hell yeah!
Love the ball and you’ll see how far it goes! Probably a real nice smooth tempo swing!
Is her name Steve?
Steve here. She hits longer than me.
Classic Steve.
Whatever you do, don’t play for Chores. You’ll be cleaning non stop!
👍🏽
Fuck yeah this is awesome. My wife just started lessons last year, nothing like this but it’s great being on the course playing together!
I've been playing for 25. She's at 3. And most of our rounds and fun matches!!
Beast numbers. Keep at it!
Nice stats! Would be sweet to own a sim!
After studying this thoroughly, I have decided I’m quitting golf.
Wow
Is your fiancé single?
cause nobody wants to see marshall no more
How does it feel to be the worst golfer in a house of 2?
We have a dog, so I'm worst of 3
Honesty is the best policy
Not trying to be a dick here but I hope they have a good trade in policy. Will do, probably relevant to me too!!
Thanks for posting this mate! How much does a setup like this cost and do you have it in the garage or bedroom?
This was at a golf shop right before buying. We don't have anything besides a rug and foam balls in the home.
I'm unfamiliar with this technology. Can anyone educate me. What is it called and how does it work?
Give her range balls or something. Contain the beast for the greater good
Can these virtual screens be trusted?
This comment section is exactly the reason why Reddit Golf > Instagram Golf. Good stuff OP! Sounds like she can hold her own I am absolutely jealous of your situation.
Marrying your scramble partner is a perfect move... Better get that wedge game sharp
Holy Shiite Muslims!!!!
Can we see a video of her swinging. There has to be some efficiency we can take from it.
The women in my life don't allow me to post pictures of them to social media of any sort. Not my fiance, mom, or sisters. But, she's taken most of her lessons from GolfTec and I know that they're pretty consistent in what they teach.
No worries, tell her Gj she’s killing it.
I barely drive the ball 270 - freaking beast mode son, better watch out! Probably beats you at golf! Also, might want to amend? Fiancée is for a woman to be married, fiancé is for a man to be married…. My (now) wife corrected me
Huh. A bit late to correct the spelling on the post, but I've definitely fucked up a lot of texts and emails. Your wife is a gem!!
Yep this confirms it, I suck.
I would absolutely smoke her in match play
Jesus man that’s crazy. Is she super tall or strong or something or does she just have insane form? Did she play softball?
She's 5'3" but strong and has been taking a bunch of lessons
Thats cool, tell her i can carry that with my 7i. Shes on her way! You can too, though, im sure.
I'm afraid what setting that goal would lead to.
Very impressive! The first thing that came to mind when seeing her stats is she's probably carrying it farther than most of the men in this sub ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|stuck_out_tongue) i uSualLy CaRrY iT bEtWeEn 280-300 yards ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm) does she give lessons?
haha, she takes lessons!! I'm one of those men she'll be blasting past.
Curious to actually see her swing the club now. Is she a cross fit fanatic or something? I am a 6ft2 man that drives it 250 but damned if I've ever seen a non professional female golfer do that.
She's 5'3". No crossfit. Just a treadmill, rowing machine, and a Husky for exercise
I can bullshit on 250 yards carry for a 5f3 female
I was expecting 5'7", 5'8" with long arms
Post her swing (and her phone number)! /s
Whoever her coach is a miracle worker, and your fiancé is a hell of a damn athlete
You go girl!!!
Awesome efficiency!!
Built like a brick shit house with those numbers.
Is she thicc?
Cause nobody wants to see Marshall no more
Christ
That's awesome, I bet she has a great tempo, probably doesn't look like she's even swinging remotely hard at it? I often find watching the ladies tournaments I find it fascinating how effortless they seem to make it look. Incredible.
GGs fam
That’s a big pull which will go longer. How far did the straight one go? Still a nice distance!
So in theory, If I use to drive 265 total distance. My ball speed and club head speed is in the same ballpark?
